My first visit with my family, salads are ok, but a little overpriced. Service was good and the place was clean

Google
This place was awesome. Very good choice. If you are trying to eat healthy, it had a large variety on the menu. Very nice selection in the salad bar. I got salmon on my salad as a choice of protein. It was my first time having salmon in a salad, but it was delicious. I would definitely eat there again.

Google
I was a little chapped because I forgot my lunch one day and I had to pay premium price for pretty much the same thing I packed for lunch. I ordered extra protein and avocado so I fully deserved the up charges. They have vegetarian options for protein too - which I made note of. So vegan and vegetarian selections will be covered if you’re into that. Service was excellent. They even let me try The dressing before I committed. This salad was packed in there. I was able to get 2.5 meals out of the regular size! Chicken was delicious. Bathroom was immaculate plis they had a hand washing station outside the bathrooms if you just need way up and not use the potty. Well thought out design! Ran up my bill even more with the fresh drink options and fun fizzy drink options. If I’m in the area and looking to make good choices, I will be a repeat offender at this place.

First time , I saw a video on tiktok & we knew we had to try it. The food was delicious . Quiet , clean and good. Tasty flavors .

Google
I love the caeser salad I make here. I make mine with steak, caeser dressing, cranberries, and cheese. Soooo yummy. The staff is super friendly and so is the owner. They encouraged me to try the tofu wings. I don't like tofu honestly but the wings were really good and you couldn't even tell. I also love their lemonade. I recommend bringing your family here if you want a good lunch.

Google
Did not like the fajita wrap. It had 3 distinct flavors: burnt, kale (didn't even have it in it), and soggy onions. None of the fajita was warm, it felt lightly colder than room temp, and overall the whole thing was ruined and didn't taste at all like fajita, or wrap, or anything but bland and burnt. Seems like a good place to be healthy though, idk.

Google
Random stop after a haircut and decided to try. Glad I did. Got a hi protein wrap (The Stallion) and it was fantastic. Fresh ingredients and served with some grilled peppers…nice touch and tasty Skip the burger and try something new. Solid!

Google
I decided to try this location for a lunch meeting instead of Salata. Instead of building my own salad, I opted for a salad off the menu that included steak. Unfortunately, the steak was extremely difficult to chew and even crisp in some spots, making my salad overall terrible. Additionally, the way they mix the salad results in all of your toppings being on the bottom of your bowl and it’s very lightly dressed.

Yelp
5/5 Customer Service - the woman who made my salad was incredibly customer service focused. She even let me sample a few dressings before I decided upon the smoky barbecue vinaigrette. 5/5 - Taste - the menu offers loads of salad and wrap toppings. However, the build your own option enables you to create the taste combinations that you prefer. Outstanding! 5/5 - Quality - you get what you pay for! The proteins are an up charge however the portion sizes are plentiful so you will definitely not be left hungry.

Yelp
Had driven by for years and never stopped. From the outside it looks like a tiny place, but it has a very nice size dining area, both inside and outside seating. I've been twice now in the last week! You order at one end of the counter and they assemble down the line. They have specialty wraps and salads on the menu or you can build your own. First visit I got the Asian Chicken Salad and a bowl of Tomato Soup. Both were so good! I couldn't eat the soup after that huge salad. I like that they cut the protein up into bite size pieces. Second time I tried the Balsamic Steak Salad and husband had the Cobb Salad. Both were great!

Yelp
Always fresh and delicious. Unlike Salata they do not skimp and are super friendly. We love this place and it is so clean!

Yelp
Ate here for the first time. I was at Camp Bullis and felt like something semi healthy so went on Yelp and found this place. I'd never heard of it as I don't come to the North West side of town very much (almost never). It was good, I wasn't mad at it. It didn't change my life, but I'd eat there again and am glad I found it. The restaurant itself was very clean and modern. I got the Asian Chicken Salad. You can build your own, but I don't like too many choices, too much pressure. I'd recommend.

Mark W.

Yelp
The lettuces, greens, and everything is fresh and crisp. Service is fast, pleasant, and knows the menu. Comfy spot. Good seating for us old geezers. I'm particular and I keep coming back, never disappointed.

Yelp
I came here and ordered to go on a Thursday and I was very pleased with my experience. I opted for a balsamic steak salad. FYI: The picture does not do this salad justice! It was loaded with blue cheese crumbles, walnuts and sun dried tomatoes. The service was quick and the inside was clean. I appreciated the wide variety of options available to customize/build your own salad. This was pricier than your average salad, but well worth it.

Yelp
Excellent! We love this restaurant. The owner is often there working. Very friendly! Amazing selection of items for a salad. Several soups made fresh.
google avatar

Yelp
The Mediterranean salad is my favorite. The service is always great and very friendly. My only wish is that the approximate calories and nutrition information would be available.
google avatar

Nina V.

Yelp
This place is great for when you are too tired to cook but still want to eat healthy and fresh food. It felt good being able to order my kids a bowl of freshly grilled chicken, peas/beans and fruit while I had a yummy steak salad and hubby had a fajita wrap. Quick fresh food!

Victoria M.

Yelp
Not my first time eating the food but my first time at the place itself! Even though they were busy, the staff worked efficiently and were so so kind. Very great first experience and my salad is wonderful!

Tony D.

Yelp
Food is not good, the dressing in the Mediterranean salad is awful, the Argentinian wrap was a little better, but it's overpriced for an average food!

Yelp
Went today for the first time at lunch time. The guy told me they were behind when I made my order on the phone and it would be 20 minutes. No problem, my fault for not ordering online earlier. I drive over and walk in and I can tell they are all working so hard and in addition to what I'm sure were many online orders, there were walk-ins coming like crazy too. Still, all of the guys behind the counter were so nice and trying to get to everyone and they apologized for the wait. Let me tell you. This bacon & egg salad wrap might not sound like much... But it was GOOD. If you love boiled eggs like I do, this was like the best, grown-up version of a bacon and egg taco/burrito ever! The peppers on the side were roasted and salted to perfection. I will definitely be going back to try more things and to get this bacon and egg wrap until I get sick of it.

Yelp
Hidden gem in San Antonio. Great atmosphere inside, the food was very fresh , staff was personable . It's one of those places you want to come back to and try different items. Will deff be back.

Ana O.

Yelp
I'd say this place is really wholesome. Most places (not even junk food necessarily) I get to go and eat after 8pm, I end of getting sick even if it was good initially, just regretted it after. After eating some of their salads, even after 8pm, I didn't feel bad the next morning and felt really good and energized. The dressings are really unique too. I've eaten from here once, so lets hope this is a consistent thing, but good after signs already;

Yelp
Plenty of seating, good location, great food, and friendly staff - what else could you want? It's walk up counter style ordering. They have a dozen or so salads or wraps you can choose from, or you can elect to "build your own." If you build your own, the protein options are steak, grilled salmon (each $5), chicken, and tofu ($3 each). The small salad is $8 and is quite bountiful and filling. Large salad is $10, or you can go with a wrap for $9. I had the small build your own salad (again, it's a decent size although it's a small) with the pine nut vinaigrette. The salad was good, but for some strange reason, they start making the salad by putting the dressing in the bottom of the bowl and then adding all of the fixin's before finally mixing it all up. This is ok for most dressings, but the pine nut vinaigrette dressing is pretty thick (almost like pesto consistency) and it didn't mix in very well like the typical ranch, vinaigrette, etc. dressings do. On the plus side, quinoa is not an extra charge or counted as a protein as I have seen at similar places.

Yelp
Food was really good, employees are fun to talk to. No issues. It is a bit pricier than other places but not outrageous. Would go back again.

Yelp
Tell me why on Google maps AND their actual first course salad website it says they're open Sundays 11-4. We get there on Sunday at 11:30 and on the door it says Sundays they're closed !!?? Made the drive for nothing this place needs to update their sh!$!

Dave L.

Yelp
Good Caesar salad but not worth $21. No grilled salmon available until after the holidays???? Seems like one of the 7 people working could have ordered some salmon. Probably need to work on that as well as the whole pricing thing. Again, it was a good salad but not worth $21. It's not enough to just offer your customers "an alternative"; it must be " a better alternative" or they're going to stay with what they know. Sálata has a little better price point for their salads if you want to compare.
google avatar

Yelp
Very Healthy options for anyone but for those who eat a balanced meal of Protein, Carbs, Good Fat, Fiber - this is a great spot! The Balsamic Steak Salad is a great portion and taste great! I also tried the tuna salad on the side and it was also very flavorful!

Yelp
Place like Salata, make your own as you go through the line. I had the kale salad with a bunch of stuff on it including avocado. It was good, but next time I will had the all important bacon to give it a flavor punch since the dressing was low key. The grilled chicken was charred so if you don't like the burned flavor, you might want to ask for the charred pieces to be cut off or get another type of protein. They will also give you tastes of the salad dressing- I only tasted one and I can't remember which it was. It was near closing when we went so not busy at all and we had ours to go. FYI, I'm a big eater and I did not finish my small salad. We got ours to go but if you stayed to eat, they mix it in a giant metal bowl for you.

Kim H.

Yelp
Let me start with the negative.... I FREAKING HATE THAT THIS PLACE IS IN TEXAS When I live in San Diego Ca ‍ My Husband and I were on a road trip from New Orleans back home to Cali. We stopped for lunch at First Course and OMG!! the best service, best staff and Best Salad we've had in our entire 2 month vacation For Real!! To the owner/management Your staff was perfection from the greeting to our exit. Great job! Oh and please please open one in San Diego lol!

Jenna C.

Yelp
Just came by as a walk-in to get some salad and wraps. PLACE WAS CLOSED AT 5:55pm Hours are Mon-Fri Til 8pm. And I get a dirty look from one of the staff. Very i professional. I left. Didn't bother to hear the staff person's excuse.
google avatar

Savanna P.

Yelp
Probably the best salad I've ever had but the service is even better. I eat here about once a week and they always remember my order. But yesterday I had a scary situation where a random man followed me to the parking lot and the employees walked me to my car and told me what to do if this man followed me out if the parking lot. They truly went above and beyond. I'd give them 10 stars if I could. Good people still exist. So if you want a great meal served by great people try out this family owned spot.
google avatar

Yelp
I've been to this restaurant before and had soup which was very good. I was with my son this time and he suggested we get a salad to share because they are huge (it's hard to tell since its in a large to go box). We opted for the Cobb salad with the regular greens and topping and we were able to customize additional toppings (we added sun dried tomatoes, caramelized onions, feta instead of bleu cheese and ranch dressing for example). The salad was so delicious enough to fill us both. It would have taken me a few days to devour it on my own. This was a good deal for slightly under $17.
google avatar

Riley F.

Yelp
Good healthy food. However, overall price and bang for your buck is a little bit lacking. Other than there salad, you're paying at least $15 for a small portion of food.
google avatar

Yelp
Traveling from California to Texas I was craving fresh, HEALTHY food. I stopped by and picked up a choose your own salad while I was in the area and was super impressed. Quick service, excellent salad options and so healthy! I went back a second time and had the same great experience. Pro tip: Be sure to let them know when you start your order if you want light on the dressing if you're getting dressing mixed in! otherwise they add about three ladles full which is far too much.
google avatar

Jade M.

Yelp
A-okay salad bar! My boyfriend and I were in the area looking for a place to eat and this spot popped up on yelp. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Here you can choose from one of their signature salads or wraps or you can build your own. We both decided to build our own salads. At First Course you choose your dressing first, then your lettuce, toppings and then you can add protein for an additional price. I made a salad with their bbq dressing, kale, spinach, spring mix, quinoa, carrots, cucumbers and grilled chicken. What I do like is that everything is very fresh and that the proteins are warm however, in my opinion it's a little too expensive for what you are getting. I also noticed that they have frozen yogurt but the staff member said that it's out of order.

Yelp
Went ahead and came to try this place after I had my first experience with Salata a few weeks ago and loved it (the quarry location). Unfortunately, I'm going to have to say that this place is basically a poor Salata wannabe. Perhaps I came at a bad time (Saturday after 1pm) after the lunch rush, but not only did they not have as many options as Salata, but the ingredients they did have were either almost gone or empty, which meant I had to ask a few times, "do you have this?" Prices were also expensive. Not that Salata isn't just as expensive, but if I'm gonna pay $15 for a salad it better have 30+ ingredients and they better be super fresh. Anyway, I doubt I'll go back. Too many other better options in this area to settle for a $15 salad.
google avatar

Tanya L.

Yelp
Made my own salad and it was bomb.com!! I stopped eating meat and it was only $8 whaaaat- I knew there was a bigger benefit to not eating meat! They do have tofu as an option but that's not my thing. My friend ordered the Cobb and she was not impressed with the flavor so make sure to trust your heart and make your own salad. It's well worth the blame

Gustavo A.

Yelp
This place is great! the food so fresh and very well prepared! the staff is always friendly and with an attitude of service and help! Considering that is a very generous portion of food with a Wonderful steak , salmon or chicken plus all the salad ( veggies) the price is right for the qual of the food you get , definitely not a fast food cheap place , but definitely a fast food , high quality healthy choice! I love this place and will keep coming back as long as they keep me with the same service and same quality!

Yelp
Finally got the chance to go to First Course Salad Kitchen and so happy we made the trip over there. There were only a few people inside but it seems alot of people get their meal to go as there alot of people in and out while we were there. We were greeted at the counter and I told him it was our first time here. He explained the menu, we tasted some dressings and then put in our order. I ordered the Build your own salad..kale, citrus vinegar, eggs, dried cranberries, pickled carrots, apples, blue cheese, avocado, and grilled chicken...Yums!!! Hubby got the wrap...that HE LOVED! We ordered our 2 year old and grilled chicken breast and the soup of the day...Carrot Ginger soup with goat cheese! I tasted hers and it was sooooo good! The only bad thing...their soft serve machines were out of order. OH by the way, after you pay, they bring your food out to your table. We really enjoyed the service and our meals. Check it out! You will be happy that you did.

Justine R.

Yelp
$20 for a salad you have to toss together yourself.... With the tiniest amount of salad dressing. You're better off going to Salata they toss everything together and you get a complementary bread.
google avatar

Lynda W.

Yelp
Good salad, but very over priced. Salad had perhaps 2 oz of chicken, all other added Ingredients were very small. No added ingredient such as spouts, mandarins oranges etc was over 2 tablespoons. Only one soup available- tomato. No bread or crackers were available to purchase. Barely enough salad for an average adult. Hopefully this will improve since their Asian Salad was good, but average at best.

James F.

Yelp
My buddy and I have been trying to eat healthy lately. We didn't know where to go for lunch yesterday. I suggested this place I heard about. I got a chicken salad wrap and it was the best I've had! Clearly fresh! Staff was very friendly! I will recommend and be back!!!
google avatar

Yelp
I was driving around looking for a place that would serve a great salad when I pulled up yelp and thought I try this place out. I'd seen it while driving between SA and Boerne. First impression, it is super clean and industrial atmosphere. I came in on a Sunday around 2pm so it was quiet. The server was super helpful in answering my questions. I selected the small salad bowl. It was so big and filling I couldn't finish it. I selected the cucumber lemon vinaigrette and built my own salad. I walked in starving and thought I'd finish it with no problem. I added grilled chicken and bacon. My first bite... OMG!!! So yummy and flavorful! It felt like the salad kept growing I couldn't find the bought of the bowl. I will definitely be back! Strong suggest a visit!
google avatar

Kimberley R.

Yelp
Restaurant was clean. Staff was friendly. I just wasn't feeling the salad. It wasn't terrible but it's pretty expensive for what it was. I had the Mediterranean salad with tofu and avocado slices. I spent like $18 for it. That's the price I spend for amazing seafood, not salad.

John M.

Yelp
Excellent salad selection. Try the cobb salad. Fast and efficient service. Highly recommended
google avatar

Yelp
Visited for the first time the other day and wanted to share our experience! We walked in to great customer service, a nice talk through of the menu, a very clean restaurant, a 100 health score (always such a bonus!) and walked out with full belly's and satisfied taste buds so grateful for companies like this starting up in San Antonio and helping our city gain healthy options! The bathrooms were very clean as well! Would definitely recommend.
google avatar

Isaac G.

Yelp
Very cute, very small, and very nice. Every time I go I get good service I just wish they had more locations
google avatar

Mark M.

Yelp
First Course is a salad place similar to Salata and the like. As with similar places, service was quick and there are lots of salad-y (yes, that's a word) options. If you're looking for a light meal, this is a good option.

Andi E.

Yelp
A much much much better salata with even entrees. Everything for the family! It is a great stop for lunch.
google avatar

Callie K.

Yelp
I don't think I've ever had a salad so fresh! I went in for a late lunch and was greeted by a very welcoming staff. I was overwhelmed by their options but given solid advice on what to order. It's safe to say that their (endless) salad toppings are all high quality - my quinoa bowl came with freshly squeezed lemon juice and grilled chicken with a lovely char. Will definitely be back!
google avatar

Janice M.

Yelp
I'm pretty upset with myself for driving by this place countless times and never trying it. I purchased a salad which was a little pricey in my opinion, but it's fresh, very large portion (I could have shared..but didn't!), and delicious. I'm lowkey planning the next time I'll come back. The place was cute and the location is nice. Def recommend for a healthy choice.

Yelp
First Course is my new first choice lunch spot in San Antonio! It's conveniently located off of I-10, and we managed to go on a rainy day so we didn't have to wait. My first impression was excellent. The staff is approachable, and genuine. They answered the few questions I had, and made helpful recommendations. I ordered the chicken wrap, and found the saffron mayo to be an interesting and welcomed addition. I got a side of sesame miso dressing, which I would recommend with it. They have a diverse array of sauces, all of which I hope to try soon. The other two members of my party ordered salads, and they were HUGE! The small size alone could've lasted me a couple meals. Can we discuss the variety of toppings? So many options! Now for the last reason I give this spot 5 stars, the cleanliness! How they keep all the food prep areas and white countertops so clean is a mystery. Also the bathrooms were spotless, is this place even real? But seriously, everything about it is so clean, meticulous, and planned right down to the small details. Thank you First Course for a delicious lunch, I can't wait to recommend this spot, and can't wait to be back for another meal!
google avatar

Ken M.

Yelp
Food is good. However, I noticed employees not changing gloves between bussing tables and making orders.
google avatar

Clorene G.

Yelp
Great salads and Wraps!! Try it! It is a must! Wonderful customer service! And very clean! You can choose from a wrap or salad or build your own and you can have a soup as a side. Argentinian wrap is amazing! Love this place will be a regular from now on! Also it open every day of the week

Jeff F.

Yelp
I love this place and eat there 3-4 times a week. They food is always fresh and made to order. The staff is friendly and helpful. I noticed on the wall that they scored a 100 of their health department inspection, you just don't see that very often. Don't believe lies others are spreading about them being out of food. I was in there literally Right at the time he posted and they were not out of anything. His post does not add up, they don't even serve sandwiches.
google avatar

Sam C.

Yelp
Incredible customer service!! Super super friendly, the ingredients were fresh and delicious - steak fresh off the grill for my salad. The girls were helpful and patient with us being as we hadn't been there before. We will definitely be back!! :) Just an update: we stopped in again today, for the second time. It was just as good, if not better than the first time! So grateful to have a healthy option close to home.

Yelp
I was looking for a great salad spot after work and came across First Course Salad Kitchen. I order the Chopped Kale salad with grilled chicken and it was AMAZING. I would 10/10 recommend this place.
