I admit being a star struck Sigur Ros/Jonsi fan was all it took to get me to Fischersund, but after almost two weeks in Iceland, it remains one of the top treasures I’ll take with me. SO much more than a perfumery, it’s an experience that weaves together all of my favorite things: a family-owned business, with scents that conjure up the memories of their home and youth, harvested from the earth, with poetry and music to accompany each blend. Everything is intentional, meaningful, connected, visceral. Even the old house that has been lovingly restored to house the store is a work of art, down to the original exposed nails in the beam. Jon was so incredibly generous with his time, giving us a performance, not a sell. (But, yes, I bought something.) He had us close our eyes, pause, inhale, and listen as he magically transported us into the details and poems of each scent. One made me cry! A perfume! We all fell in love with this tender soul and the exquisite beauty of Fischersund.
