Seafood Restaurant Fish Bone Replaces Tapas 24 in Old Montreal | Eater Montreal

"Reborn as Fish Bone, the fully renovated space has been turned into a Japanese-leaning seafood eatery that bills itself as 'modern coastal cuisine' with a 'globally influenced' menu; a representative says it’s run by the same people as Tapas 24—presumably MTL Cuisine only, as it appears Carles Abellan is no longer affiliated. The menu features sashimi, tataki, and maki rolls but isn’t strictly a sushi spot, touching many bases from salmon tartare with truffle oil to gazpacho, lobster pasta, ceviche, and fusion-y bao buns filled with shrimp, horseradish, and guacamole. On Thursday to Saturday evenings Fish Bone tries a supper-club approach with cocktails, champagne, DJs, and late-night dining, and it’s open at 420 Notre-Dame O from 5 p.m. to midnight Tuesday and Wednesday and from 5 p.m. to late (around 2 or 3 a.m.) Thursday to Saturday." - Tim Forster

Great food and service! We ordered the Rockefellar shrimps , 2 types of sushi: one being the spicy salmon , the tartar, and the tacos. The food is always so flavorful and im never disappointed with the music being played ! Great place to bring friends and a date as well

Music 10/10 Food 10/10 We were a group of 20 people, we took the 95$ menu per person (family menu) and we had 10 to go plates full as there was so much food left! Very good food, I definitely recommend

Welcome to a good time, great food and atmosphere. I enjoy coming here because it's such a nice restaurant. The second you walk in you see really nice lighting, and a very welcoming seating area where you can dine. The staff is very nice here. The food here is pretty amazing. There's Sashimi was really really good. They had probably the best beef tartare I've ever tried in my life. And I don't like beef tartare. The Ambiance here on Thursday nights, Friday nights, Saturday nights, is just so great. They have really good music and a good sound system here so you really feel the vibe . As it gets later the music gets a bit louder and they have djs here that play even better music. It's almost like a supper club but more discreet and with really good food. Also I don't want to forget the cocktails are amazing. They have a good selection of cocktails and I've tried many of them here over the past few times I've come and all of them are very good. If you're looking for a place, for a good time or a date. This is a place to go.

The floor to ceiling windows, antique plank flooring, minimalist furniture, and the 70s soul soundtrack give this place a cool comfortable vibe. As someone who is hung up on details, I appreciate that. Nothing is out of place here. The bus stations are perfectly organized. The furniture candles, glasses, flatware, etc. are symmetrically arranged. The menu is bursting with creativity with interesting takes on Japanese sushi bar classics. There was also a selection of steaks and seafood options. I was taken back by oysters that were served topped with fresh raspberries. It was a great idea. The acid from the raspberries worked as a subtle mignonette and paired well with the subtle brinyflavor of the oysters. Black cod served with green beans and grilled white asparagus. Everything is perfectly cooked and seasoned. Staff was cordial, attentive and interactive without being intrusive. The negative reviews make no sense to me. It seems any past issues have been rectified. I’ve been in the business for several decades, and I can say that they hit every mark.

We were looking for a restaurant serving a good cod filet. Found Fish Bone had the Black Miso Cod and gave it a try. We were not disappointed. Perfectly cooked and such a delicate sweet flavor. Paired well with a seafire roll and white wine.

I’ve been here a couple times, food is always good, service always incredible. We tried it for Montreal a table this time, and we could tell it was extremely busy, it took a bit long for the food this time, but the waitstaff was super nice (as usual)! I recommend coming when it’s the regular menu if you want good food and a good time!

Being a vegan I was a little skeptical when my family wanted to have dinner at Fish Bone. I checked the menu and was surprised to 2 options, the MIYAGI MAKI and MALDIVE SALAD. I had both and they were outstanding. My family enjoyed the raw bar, Sashimi and fresh fish and Grilled Octopus. Staff and atmosphere was great. Highly recommended, even if you are Vegan !

I'm normally not the type to ever send back food at a restaurant because I hate wasting food, but I had to here. My friends and I agreed that the first few dishes of the 4 course service were great, and the service up until we recieved our entrées was fantastic! However, when the 5 of us recieved our red snapper entrées, none of them were cooked properly. The skin was undercooked, almost rubbery. The middle was so raw that the normally white and flakey fish was red and rubbery in the middle (like red tuna), and it couldn't even be cut through without a lot of effort. The fish itself was barely seasoned, and this was the case for all 5 of the red snappers. When we tried to bring this up with the servers, we were initially given many excuses: "it is 'red' snapper", "it's the stomach of the fish, so that's why it's not flakey and a different colour". No. I know cooked fish vs sashimi, and that fish texture and taste was NOT cooked. Eventually, after a lot of back and forth, the server brought our dishes back to the chef. The chef apparently said the fish was fine, but the server offered to replace my dish. Only my dish was replaced because the others had lost their appetites. The second fish was WONDERFULLY cooked and well seasoned. It was white/very slightly pink and flakey, like properly cooked red snapper should be. After all this, the servers were very kind and apologetic, and offered complimentary shots and gave extra dessert. They also thanked us for bringing up the issue and sincerely apologized. And while we appreciated this, this all came AFTER they first tried to come up with several excuses, and tried to make us think we didn't know what cooked fish was supposed to be like. Overall, the experience was unfortunately soured by the horribly undercooked fish and the initially poor response of the servers. Edit: The defensiveness of the reply from the owner below demonstrates the level of defensiveness that my friends and I encountered at this restaurant when we brought up the fact that all 5 of our snappers were undercooked. Only after A LOT of insistence were any corrective steps taken (including offering to replace ONLY 1 out of 5 of the snappers). If you'd like to eat at the restaurant that truly prioritizes your experience, immediately responds to poorly cooked food concerns, and doesn't condescend and immediately get defensive when you bring up issues, go somewhere else in Montreal.
