"London’s chippies tend to traverse the line between family favourite and just fine, but Fish Central offers a bit of everything. It’s an old-school fish restaurant in Clerkenwell that can do both takeaway or silver cutlery, depending on your mood. The three-course fish supper features just the right amount of marie rose sauce, a paddle-sized piece of fried cod or haddock with chips, and a pudding best chosen with custard." - jake missing
"Open since 1968, Fish Central is one of London’s crème de la crème fish and chip experiences. The Clerkenwell mainstay will butter your bread in more ways than one (namely, for the triangles that come with your prawn cocktail), and a meal here feels like a reassuring return back to simpler times. Turkish-run, with a takeaway shop and separate bakery next door, Fish Central prides itself on good produce and familial service. "Delivery Status: Collection and local delivery from Clerkenwell. Fish. School of fish. Schools. Remember those terrible months when they didn’t go to school? Remember when you were 22 and only ate chicken nuggets of drunken choice rather than necessity? Stop sadly picking things off their plate and go for a big order from Fish Central instead. As well as the kid-friendly classics like cod and chips, this place is also delivering oysters, seafood spaghetti, and scotch salmon. "Majestic isn’t a word we use often. In fact, we’re not really meant to use words like majestic. But Fish Central - an old school, white tablecloth fish restaurant that lives on the grounds of a council estate - is bloody majestic. There are blasts from the past, and then there is a man playing Let’s Dance on the keyboard as you eat a prawn cocktail. Admittedly the music is in the evening (and it’s a good walk from Farringdon) but this is still a great place to head to for an old school fish supper (or in this case lunch) for not a lot.
