"One of the great problems with chippies is that every person’s favourite chippy is the good one closest to them. Outside of a trip to the coast and that irreplaceable sea air seasoning, you’ll be hard pushed to find a chippy actually worth travelling for in London. Well, we think Fish Central is one of them. The Clerkenwell classic is a blast from the past in all the best ways. "Fish Central is an old school fish restaurant in Clerkenwell that will feed your group solidly. It’s the kind of place that will push three tables together no questions asked, regardless of whether you want to listen to an elderly all-inclusive style DJ play Rebel Rebel on a keyboard, or not. The three course set fish supper makes it a very reasonable option, and as long as nobody in your group has a problem with fish and chips, and an ice cream sundae for dessert, then everybody will leave happy." - jake missing

Chris Morris’ suicide bomber satire is, like the best British films, a story of poignant and fatal farce. Crows are detonated, bleach is bought, and mini Babybels are insulted. It’s the kind of comedy that could only come from these shores and, with that in mind, a trip down the chippy feels like the most fitting combination. "Every area in London needs at least two excellent fish and chip options. Clerkenwell has that, plus one that has live music an evening a month. That’s just one reason we really like Fish Central. The food here won’t blow you away: perfectly cooked scallops, some crispy scampi, a decent bit of haddock. But it’s the old-school atmosphere that makes it.
