This used to be a random run down Chinese restaurant and I’m glad Fish Grub took its place and revamped this area. It has a cute outdoor patio that gives an illusion of windows like you’re in a garden in Italy. There’s plenty of parking and the space inside is huge!
It’s one of those places where you order and pay first then sit down. However you do have the choice of sitting at a table and decide there too.
1st time 3/29/2021:
We just missed happy hour which is from 4-6pm. It’s only for alcohol, not food. After we placed our order, we were given the buzzer. Due to COVID, the buzzer is wrapped in plastic sandwich bag and changed out after each guest.
Peppery calamari ($12) - this was salty and more garlicky than peppery. I like how it’s lightly crispy fried.
1pc fish and chips ($12) - one piece of large pacific cod and choice of sauce. Either sriracha aioli, cusabi ranch, or tartar. We got the tartar. This piece is big and juicy.
2 battered fish tacos ($7) - corn tortilla, slaw and same choice of sauce. This time, we got sriracha aioli and it was the perfect combo.
5 wings ($9) - Three choice of flavors, either garlic peppery, tangy ginger glazed, or Kung pao bbq. We got garlic peppery.
We asked for limes to squirt on the seafood. We also asked for extra sauce. We were able to taste the aioli, cusabi, and tartar. I’m not a fan of cusabi which is cucumber, wasabi, and ranch. I don’t like ranch and my bf doesn’t like wasabi. The tartar is the best with the fish and chips and the aioli with the tacos.
This place is Asian owned, so you can taste the Asian inspired in the calamari and the wings. It’s not like typical American pub flavors. It taste like what you get at Asian restaurants like salt and pepper wings or fish sauce wings.
2nd time: 4/1/2021
We enjoyed it so much that we came back for more. We ordered take out this time.
Coconut curry chicken ($12) - came with seasoned rice and a choice of sides. We got cauli potato mash. I didn’t taste the coconut but it’s probably what made it really creamy. There’s no heat spice. There was generous amount of chicken poured over the rice. The cauli potato mash is not all made out of cauliflower. It was mash with chunks of cauliflower. I would say stick to the fish dishes but if you’re craving for rice, this is not bad either.
Wings ($9) - This time we got sriracha glazed (the menu says tangy ginger glazed). This was a wet rub and not spicy. The chicken was meaty and juicy.
Fish and chips ($12 one piece) - boyfriend loved this so we ordered it again and asked for extra crispy so it’s a bit golden brown and so much better. A lemon wedge was also included.
I’m happy to say that the seasonings have been adjusted. Last time it was a bit salty. This time, it’s perfect. They also added Asian Slaw for us to try. Loved it. It could taste the toasted sesame peanut sauce.
