This tiny, family-run spot turns out local seafood at friendly prices—think cracked conch, grouper sandwiches, and a strong raw bar. Regularly praised by local critics for freshness and value, it’s the kind of place people plan trips around.

This is a Hidden Gem for Fresh Seafood Lovers! We recently went to Fish Shack in Lighthouse Point with a party of eight, and it was hands-down one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in South Florida! From the moment we walked in, we felt right at home. The place has a laid-back, local vibe, but the food is anything but ordinary. We ordered a mix of appetizers to share the conch fritters, smoked fish dip, shrimp scampi and crab cakes were all outstanding and set the tone for the rest of the meal. Every dish we tried was fresh, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor. The grilled mahi, fried shrimp, and blackened grouper sandwiches were amazing — you can really taste how fresh the seafood is. Even with a larger group, the service was quick and friendly, and all the orders came out hot and exactly right. If you’re craving fresh seafood, generous portions, and that authentic Florida fish shack feel, this place is a must-try. We’re already planning our next visit I’d highly recommend!

The bar service was nice! The conch fritters were enjoyable for my first time indulging. The caesar salad with shrimp has an amazing ratio of dressing to greens. The shrimp sizes and flavors were great! The Kung Fu wine I found enjoyable especially as someone not big on wine. I really love the idea that you can bring your fishing catch in to be clean and cooked .

Google
What an amazing spot this is! A hidden local gem for sure. Jennifer was a wonderful waitress. Super friendly and great suggestions. If she tells you to get it make sure you order it!! Make sure you save room for the homemade dessert. If not coconut cake to go is a plus!

Google
The experience was decent, but nothing remarkable. Unfortunately, the service left much to be desired, particularly from a young staff member whose attitude didn't reflect the level of professionalism you'd expect in a restaurant setting. While the menu prices were reasonable, the items listed on the board were surprisingly expensive for a place of this type.

Google
Hands down the best fresh fish in South Florida. I’m here once a week for fish tacos because it’s the only place with Hogfish consistently on the menu. Also the servers are super attentive and nice! Make sure to ask for Shawna, Dani, or Catherine - one of them is usually there during lunch!

Everything's served on / in old fashioned new england styled bowls and plates......and I love it. The lobster bisque was on point and the new england clam chowder was superb. I had we fried oysters. Omg so fresh and tasty. Breaded and fried to perfection. My buddy had the Mahi and couldn't stop raving about it. A must go.

Google
Excellent food and a very cordial, attentive staff. Food was prepared fresh in a relaxed family atmosphere. We had steamed clams and shrimp, as well as blackened hogfish. It was all delicious! Will return again!

Yelp
This was a bucket list restaurant for me and I'm so glad I finally tried it! It's in the heart of Pompano and the vibes inside are definitely reminiscent of the Keys. I loved seeing the daily specials board with a huge variety of fish to choose from. They also have a very extensive menu of so many seafood delicacies. The conch fritters looked fantastic and so did the shrimp and scallops. I ended up going with the blackened grouper sandwich with cucumber salad as my side. You can choose between five different ways to get any seafood here (grilled, blackened, fried, Cajun, or butter). I love blackened and it did not disappoint! The grouper was melt in your mouth and it broke apart so easy like a fresh filet. I loved the taste and would definitely order it again exactly the same! I also loved the cucumber salad. It was refreshing, with no fried flavors and offered something enjoyable on such a hot day. I also think the prices at this restaurant are very affordable for the high quality seafood you are getting! I was told everything on the daily specials menu board is caught daily in the morning and I would believe it by how fresh it tastes. The location is small inside and you will definitely wait for a table. Thankfully we only had to wait 20mins but keep that in mind as I'm sure crowds for certain days or times could put a wrench into potential plans you may have to visit this spot! It only further exemplifies how delicious the food is from this spot though! It's definitely a local hidden gem and I highly recommend if you enjoy seafood as it was delicious!

Yelp
Had cracked conch fried appetizer, grilled platter and fried platter. Crack conch was like crack, so addictive. Both platters were excellent. Fresh seafood in all. Standouts were grilled scallops, grilled shrimps and onion rings. Not cheap but quality.place was full, hand to take the small table by the door. Very good seafood place, quite popular as well.

Yelp
Fish Shack consistently serves fresh, well prepared food. I've always enjoyed their lobster bisque ,lobster rolls ( served cold or hot, ) and very nice onion rings. Even their cold garden salad is fresh and crisp, as well as their caesar salad; both of which are light and delicious. I would recommend Fish Shack without reservation.

Yelp
I heard Fish Shack in Lighthouse Point was closing after tonight for five weeks of renovations. Just HAD to have that fried grouper sandwich one more time! Buffalo Shrimp, Clam Chowder, and Coconut Crème Cake to go I was so stuffed!

Yelp
Food was delicious . I ordered grilled plain wahoo fish sandwich w/ no bun with coleslaw side at 20.95 ( a little cup of honey mustard on side 25 cents . ) spouse ordered grilled plain yellow tail snapper platter at 33.95 with 2 sides - fries and cucumber red onion salad . Said very soft fish and delicious . Service was efficient and fast . Ambiance is fish shack ! Lots of pictures nostalgia in walls ..

Yelp
Love the new location! Perfect for pick up to take to Hillsboro Inlet Park to eat with a lighthouse view. We are long time fans of the fried clams. This time we tried the cracked conch and a mahi sandwich, both were very good.

Yelp
I'm hooked on this fish restaurant! I'm a local and this is the freshest seafood restaurant I have ever been to in South Florida. I felt like I was relocated to the Florida keys. This family run business has been around for 30 years serving fresh fish with reasonable prices. So many different types of fish offerings on the menu to choose from. You can have your fish cooked and served grilled, blackened or garlic butter style. Bring your own fresh catch and it can be prepared any way by pay by the pound. The inside of the restaurant is boat and fishing themed. It's not that big inside and there is no outside seating available at this restaurant. It's a very busy restaurant so prepare to wait for at least 15-20. Bar seating is available with alcohol beverages and beer on tap. I ordered the fresh Mahi sandwich with fries and it was delicious. I totally recommend this Fish Shack restaurant to anyone that likes fish.

Yelp
Stopped by again. This time I decided on swordfish. Fresh not frozen. Decided on blackened with garlic butter plus that yummy rice and perfectly steamed broccoli. Quite a filling lunch. The Fish Shack never fails me.

Yelp
Had to drive 40 minutes but finally found some great fried clam strips! Loved the fries and onion rings as well. Service was great too! It was a Friday during Lent and we only waited about 30 min for a booth. Place was very clean and they even won a Clean Plate award! Bathrooms were very clean as well!
google avatar

Jeanette T.

Yelp
Place was busy. Service was friendly. Calamari was good. Place was cute with fish on the walls and had several booths along the wall. Food was fresh and served hot! My chicken was really good and served so hot! Lobster roll served hot and good. Mahi Mahi sandwich was very good. Fish and chips good too.
google avatar

Yelp
The food was really good and tasted fresh. My server was nice, I forgot her name but she was very friendly. The place was clean and definitely seemed like a popular spot because it was busy. I will come back for sure!

Yelp
Hidden in strip mall is a great seafood restaurant. When we entered we were quickly greeted and taken to our booth. The servers work as a team so instead of one we had four and they were always making sure you had what you needed. We started with the Buffalo Shrimp for an appetizer. Excellent flavor fried perfect with a light batter. Next a hot lobster roll with cucumber salad. Again great taste. And I had the crab cakes with cole slaw and cucumber salad. They were fried perfect not greasy with a nice crunch and flavor. Homemade desserts available.

Yelp
The restaurant is located at a corner towards the end of the place. There are plenty of parking spaces around. I had no problem finding it. It's a nice, casual, friendly, local, restaurant. The staff was friendly and the food service was fast. I liked it. The Conch fritters tasted great. I ordered the Grouper platter. It came with two sides. I chose the large french fries. I wondered what they meant by the name "Large Fries". It was not the portion size or size of the fries lol. They were good. The cucumber salad was my second side. The salad had a vinegar dressing, not for me. The fish was very good. It had a good flavor. I didn't have any room for desserts however the waitress mentioned that the desserts were made in the restaurant. The restaurant is nice. It is not so big with a big bar on one side. It has booths all around. The place feels comfortable and I had a good fish.

Yelp
My hubby & I wanted to try & we found the Fish Shack delicious! We had to wait a bit for a both but not too long. I was craving oysters, so I ordered a half dozen as an appetizer. They were blue points & tasted fresh. Hubby had the conch fritters - fresh & very good also. We were happy with the special board - I ordered grilled grouper & hubby grilled hogfish. We had steamed broccoli & their homemade coleslaw. We enjoyed everything we ate. I was hungry & didn't take too many pics! Hubby had the Key lime pie for dessert- he said it was ok. I would say this place is set up like a diner with booths & some tables. Very family oriented- with high chairs available. Also wanted to mention- a family at the next table brought in Fish that they caught - it's a feature called - Hook & Cook! That was a great idea! I can see myself coming here often for seafood done right!

Yelp
Simple, cozy seafood joint that I've been wanting to try for a while. We ordered the cracked conch app, fish burger w/ fries and scallop/shrimp/fish platter with 2 sides. The menu is decently priced, food were cooked just right and service was attentive. Will recommend!

Yelp
Haven't been to this great local restaurant in a while, but I ran into the owner in publix yesterday and remembers me and noticed that I lost weight! I love him!!!!! Must go back for dinner soon with hubby! Thank you!!!! Nancy Kelly

Yelp
I love this place! Took an out of town friend here for lunch. We had oysters and calamari and both were excellent as everything here is. I see they have conch chowder and I can't wait to try it soon.
google avatar

Anton B.

Yelp
This place is worth the wait, as they don't take reservations. The wait staff is great and very attentive. The place is immaculately clean. Huge selection of fresh fish that can be prepared multiple ways. The Lobster bites and grilled oysters were amazing appetizers. We also had Grouper, Three Tails fish and twin Lobster tails grilled and all were delicious! We will definitely be back
google avatar

Dave D.

Yelp
The ambiance is exactly what the name implies. It feels like a fish shack. The food was good but I wish we would have asked the server what they are known for before ordering. We found out later people come here for the conch. Pictured are the crab cakes and they were good. Not pictured is the buffalo shrimp wrap which was also good. The service is what makes this place. The staff was great. I love places where the entire staff looks out for all tables, it's so much more efficient.

Yelp
Stopped in for sushi in the same plaza a few weeks ago and as we were walking by we saw Fish Shack. Usually any time I wanted seafood I would go to another small business named Calypso. After being seated quickly the waitress came over and got our order in which was the fish dip and the fish and chips. Our food came out pretty fast maybe 15 minutes. The fish dip with crackers was absolutely amazing didn't have a strong fish flavor but you could taste all the ingredients on their own would recommend! The fish and chips came out perfectly fried in that beer batter coating. The fish itself was flakey fresh cod which with their home made tartar sauce which complimented it perfectly. The inside wasn't too big but I can tell they have a lot of repeat customers. Overall if you are looking for a great seafood restaurant that is unassuming I would stop in and try some of their menu! I didn't have enough room in my stomach or I would have ordered some of their desserts!
google avatar

Katie C.

Yelp
Ordered the lobster roll and it was pretty dry and unflavored. Needed to add a little salt. Ate it because I was so hungry tho. Slaw wasn't great, tasted old. The rest of the family enjoyed their food tho.

Yelp
We headed in on a Saturday night and it was little bit of a wait - about 20 minutes. Not terrible. My mom had been here and really wanted to take me since we love all seafood. We ordered the fried calamari to start. Lots of big pieces. Came with marinara to dip. And the batter came out super crispy and very good. I ordered fish & chips and got it with coleslaw. It was a huge portion. I only ate half of it and gave the coleslaw to my sister who loved it. I also got to try my mom's fried whole belly clams. Very good - not gritty! And onion rings. The batter and frying situation her are magical. Service was just okay but the food made up for it. It also was very quick!

Yelp
Found em on Yelp & frankly sometimes the ratings are off. But this place def earned the high ratings. Clam chowda & lobsta roll were perfect & reminded me of Boston where I grew up. They sat me right away at the bar & food & service impeccable. Unpretentious spot which is exactly how I like it. Let the food & service do the talking. Thx for the excellent meal. Tops on my list when I visit FL again. Much luv & respect to all hard wkg food ppl running long & hard to make ends

Yelp
A wonderful Florida meal always awaits here when in Pompano Beach. Some of the best fresh-brewed Iced Tea around. Love mine with a lemon wedge. Service is quick, friendly, and efficient. Be advised it is closed on Sunday and Monday. Will make your catch after you catch it while ur fishing plus pay special attention to the offerings board ... all fresh seafood. A cup or bowl of New England Clam Chowder (a white chowder) is not to be missed! I went for the fresh mahi mahi sandwich plate but no bun. My seasoning was Cajun spice and Gee, Golly was it a good piece of fish. Tender and well-seasoned and cooked thru but not over cooked. It came with lettuce & tomato sandwich garnish and I chose Cucumber Salad as my side. My only suggestion would be a fresher looking slice of tomato on the plate. Yum!
google avatar

David D.

Yelp
Great fresh seafood! With perfect service. Friendly staff overall a great experience.
google avatar

Yelp
Mostly thawed food, not sure if anything is made fresh here anymore. Not worth the wait. Quality has taken a hit since new owners
google avatar

Yelp
This place is tucked away in a strip mall but would fit right in directly on the sand. It has that dive feel except it's well lit and exceptionally clean. The oysters were ice cold, plump and flavorsome, the horseradish was nose tingling but not obnoxiously so. The conch fritters were light, airy but still chewy and loaded with conch, a good flavor. My husband said the crab cakes were really good with large chunks of crab. My fish was firm and meaty and had a good flavor. The batter covered every inch locking in the moisture so none of it was dried out. The cucumber salad was an option I chose instead of fries. It was a sweet and sour with a prominent vinegar taste but was perfect against the fried fish. The lobster in the lobster roll was tender and well seasoned. Everything we ate, I would recommend.
google avatar

Tyann T.

Yelp
We love coming here. The hogfish fried is our favorite meal but the grouper is good too. The staff is great and very attentive. The restaurant is bright and very fishy themed.
google avatar

Dale F.

Yelp
This is a popular seafood restaurant in pompano. They have all different kinds of fresh fish and seafood to choose from.I had the blackened hogfish sandwich with fries, it was the first time having it and it was very good.We went here for lunch and it was very busy but we had fast and friendly service.
google avatar

Barclay S.

Yelp
Small casual restaurant. Great, friendly service. Lots of menu choices. Reasonable prices. Locals do eat here.

Mark S.

Yelp
First time here, phenomenal restaurant. My grouper sandwich was great. Conch fritters and key lime pie were amazing.
google avatar

Dyan D.

Yelp
10 min wait for takeout. Packed professionally and included utensils. Fish & chips had a crispy shell and fish was flaky to perfection. Food was hot as it was just cooked. Our experience was excellent!
google avatar

Lia B.

Yelp
I ordered from this place after hearing great things. I was fasting all day and was craving beer battered cod and chips with lots of lemon and Tabasco. One bite and I was utterly disappointed. It was absolutely awful, not good at all and certainly not worth the price nor the drive to pick up. I had one piece of the cod and threw the rest away. The chips also are nothing to write home about. A total waste of money. The whole "we were on the news" has become their entire personality; perhaps the beer battered cod simply is not their specialty but unfortunately, I cannot recommend.

Yelp
One of the only places we found that still serve FLORIDA style seafood and not New England style . Place is in an unassuming strip mall and inside is just a basic run of the mill sit down spot .. Our waitress was amazing (forgot her name ) she was from Pennsylvania originally , was amazing . She was friendly and attentive. The food was absolutely killer . We got the smoked fish dip (8 out of 10), we got the grouper sandwiches 10 out of 10) perfectly fried and had a clean mild flavor and the buffalo shrimp ( 8 out of 10) . Everything was fresh and hot . We will definitely be back next time we're in South Florida.
google avatar

Steve B.

Yelp
Very busy place, had fish tacos which were delicious another night had hogfish also very tasty and another evening fish and chips which for this dish was great. Can't go wrong. Service was excellent with everyone smiling.

Karen W.

Yelp
Excellent seafood. The grilled oysters are out of this world and the mahi-mahi sandwich can't be beat.
google avatar

Ana V.

Yelp
Omg! Omg! Fish Shack!! We had a great time. I had the most amazing lobster. Sorry, TWIN lobsters!!!! They were cooked to perfection. I also had the oysters and to be honest what I like about them here is they know how to chuck them. Not a single bit of sand. Yum Yum yum. We also had Cracked conch. Delicious. Just delicious. My cousin had the Shrimp and mi little cousin a hamburger. She devoured it. AND shoutout to the ladies!! Great service on such a busy night. Inside and out!!! And.... You have to try the cucumber salad and the cilantro garlic sauce
google avatar

Ted L.

Yelp
Great seafood, nice and fresh and large portions. Service was very good and attentive. This place has that local look and feel. Highly recommend the full bellied clams!

Yelp
This restaurant is a local stop for us yet it was our first visit. The reason being there is always a very long waiting line and as much as we enjoy seafood, there are several other good restaurant's in the same shopping plaza for us to choose from. There is not a lot of seating, however, we didn't realize there was also bar seating with a full menu so this time we were able to be seated immediately at the bar while others were waiting for a table. The menu was loaded with seafood options prepared a variety of ways. There was also a board with the daily catches. Besides seafood, I saw chicken wings, burgers and wraps so no one would go hungry. We ordered the fried shrimp w onion rings & cucumber salad and the cracked conch platter with veggies and a salad. No complaints about any of the food.. it was all very good and there was plenty if it! The shrimp dinner was 12 large shrimp. We took home a few along with some conch. There is not much to say about the looks of this place.. it has been there a long time so the decor is dated but functional. I actually like casual spots and I like that it appears to be a small family run business. Parking is free and easy in the plaza . The prices were very fair for the quantity and quality of the food. Cant wait to go back!!
google avatar

Gary R.

Yelp
Great food and good service. It's a local place everything was good. Go early to avoid waiting.
google avatar

Ann Robin H.

Yelp
3/5/24- Great food always . Always tastes like the last time . The service very efficient and friendly. Had the 2 Florida lobster tails came w/ 2 sides . G had one of the special, fried hogfish, came w/ 1 side. Always good . You can bring ur catch in they'll do it up for you .

Nicole L.

Yelp
We discovered a gem. The lobster rolls are better (and more generous) than the ones we used to "so love". In Maine. We will go back and tell our friends. The staff is friendly and so is the ambiance. BRAVO!
google avatar

Ray C.

Yelp
Friendly staff and a home cooked vibe to the meals at Fish Shack. The fried conch and oysters were great. I had the grilled grouper sandwich off the fresh catch of the day menu and it was perfect. The price is also right at the Fish Shack. Enjoy!
google avatar

Julia M.

Yelp
Food here is delicious and simple. Always have amazing specials and never disappoints. This is a go to local spot with huge menu. Service is always great and accommodating. Although you don't get an amazing view the inside makes you feel like your in a local Fish shake
google avatar

Steve C.

Yelp
Great little place for lunch! It's in a strip mall near Publix, so there's lots of parking. The inside has more of a hometown diner feel. This was my first visit, and I had the fresh lobster roll, and it was absolutely amazing! For the side, I chose the cucumber & onions - so nice to have a different option for a side. Service was friendly and efficient. Would highly recommend!
google avatar

Carol N.

Yelp
Service was excellent!! Every waitress stopped at our table to make sure we had everything we needed. Prices were high considering the quality of food. Conch fritters were over cooked, fries and onion rings were frozen. Onion rings were just like Burger Kings. Fish restaurants should have hand cut onion rings and French fries. Frozen food and dinners for 30$ not the quality of food I want. Never again I did not say anything to the waitress because they can't do anything about the quality of the food that is served. The waitresses don't have any control over whether food is fresh vs frozen.
google avatar

Lisa G.

Yelp
Service started with a snappy wait or take a small table at front, we opted to wait for a booth. Glad we did. Had a great server named Shawna. Don't miss the Conch Fritters! 5/5! The conch sauce was great too! They were my fav. Key Lime pie is up there too. Better whipped cream and it might be a 5/5.
google avatar

Ralph C.

Yelp
Nice local place to grab a fish dinner. We each had the New England clam chowder which was piping hot and delicious. My wife had the Salmon platter and I had the grilled combo platter made up of mahi-mahi, shrimp, and scallops. We both were very pleased with our meals. Service was very attentive to us and place had a clean fresh look about it. We liked this place as Lito's and will be back here
google avatar

Yelp
This was our first visit here. We sat my the bar area as restaurant was full. Clam chowder soup was very good, fish & chips not so good Cod seemed like frozen fish sticks and fish sandwich was blah. The only great thing was they sell nice tshirts.
