This was my second visit to Fish Shack, and unfortunately the experience fell well below expectations due to service issues that I believe management should be aware of.
Our waitress, Jen, created several problems throughout the meal. When ordering, she asked what temperature we wanted our fish which is something i have never heard asked before for fish, when we asked what she means and we said medium, she reacted as if we were unreasonable for not understanding the question. The fish that arrived was blue in the middle, clearly undercooked.
After being seated, we were not checked on for over 40 minutes. Although we had drinks at the bar beforehand, we were never asked if we wanted beverages at the table. During this time, nearby tables received frequent, friendly attention while we were largely ignored.
One of our dishes was forgotten entirely. When we asked about it, the response was dismissive, and we were made to feel as though we were unreasonable for asking when it would be ready, rather than receiving an apology or clear update.
There was also a hygiene concern: my sister dropped her knife on the floor, and it was picked up without being replaced.
Additionally, when I attempted to ask for something as simple as mayo for the onion rings, we weren’t given the opportunity—there was no check-in about how the food was or whether we needed anything. Instead, attention continued to be directed to other tables.
If the difference in service had anything to do with the fact that we were not drinking alcohol, that is concerning—especially since we were never asked about drinks to begin with. Regardless, service should be consistent for all guests.
When we finally asked about timing, we were told, “It’s coming out—it’s the season and a Friday,” which felt dismissive rather than informative. Especially since she made no effort to check.
We don’t expect perfection, but we do expect basic professionalism, food safety, and respectful communication. The food itself may have potential, but the service issues made this a disappointing visit. I hope management takes this feedback seriously, as this wantnt our first visit and we would like a reason to return.
