The poke bowl is decent but a bit strange lol. On non-sticky short grain rice. With avocado and radish and scallion and celery. Not seaweed and cucumber and the typical toppings. It was pretty fast! And they’re nice.

I have been going here since it opened 25+ years ago. This is the only place where the fish is consistently so fresh and good that all it needs is salt and pepper and the price is 1000% worth it. To top it off, the staff could not be nicer or more helpful. Chris and Jose are the absolute best and their new space looks great.

Fish Tales is top-notch! I've been a customer for 10+ years and this place never disappoints. From line-caught striped bass and flounder from LI, to langoustines, tuna steaks, cockles, and soft shell crabs... the product is always ultra fresh and delicious. Nick, Chris, Jose, and team behind the scenes deliver, time and again. Great seafood that's well worth the visit. 10/10.

The owner Topher is very nice. Was looking to place a large order for a party I have coming up and he helped me pick out good fish to cook. His staff also helped me look up recipes to use!

Currently getting ready for a bodybuilding show, so what does that mean? I need to find the best QUALITY FISH IN BROOKLYN. Shoutout to the team there, especially Chris and Jose for having the best fish on deck whenever you need it. Fresh fish that NEVER SMELLS, and DONT GET ME STARTED FOR THE POL BOYS! The crab legs were really tender and the sashimi-grade fish had amazing flavor. A great spot for fresh seafood!

Fish Tales offers the best seafood options in Brooklyn. The quality is superb and fresh. It’s restaurant grade. I’m now spoiled and cannot buy fish elsewhere because it doesn’t compare. It’s pricey, but that’s what fresh seafood costs, so don’t complain. Thanks Fish Tales!

Wrapping up their first week in a new location, I dropped by today to buy Branzini. They didn't have to travel far--just a couple doors down on the same block, and the space is larger with seafood on ice in full display. Their prices are noticeably more expensive than other places but no one should compromise when it comes to eating seafood. As someone who has had food poisoning a few times, I like to subscribe to this mindset. From Swordfish and Tuna to Shellfish and Filets, I was told they make the trek to Fulton Fish Market (in Hunt's Point, the Bronx) daily. That's good to know. There's also a freezer packed with frozen selections such as Snow Crab legs and Calamari. I would like to see more varieties of fish ( like Skate and Monkfish) while envisioning an addition of upscale gourmet items/seafood accompaniments other than Soy and Teriyaki Sauce. If you want to be assured of eating fresh seafood knowing you're paying slightly more, check them out. (I bought two Branzini for $31).

What a nice neighborhood spot for fresh seafood! I came by to get some sashimi grade fish. The service was friendly and efficient as I got 1/2lbs Yellowfin Tuna at $36.99/lb. I got a small chunk of tuna for almost $20, which was fresh and great as sashimi. It's definitely pricey, but they get all their fish fresh every morning. What I am really excited about is their hot menu including tacos, poke, rolls, and sandwiches. I ended up getting the Combo Poke ($14) as well. This was plated beautifully with tuna, salmon, avocado, cucumber, radish, green onion, and sesame seeds over a bed of warm rice. The poke was drizzled with sauce that made the entire bowl so tasty and refreshing to consume. I only wish they used sushi rice as it tasted more like healthy, brown rice that was a bit hard. I appreciate how considerate the employees were to separate my tuna and poke as one was hot and cold. Definitely would love the try some of their other hot menu items, which is perfect for lunch on the go. Surprised that this spot is not just a fresh seafood spot.

Went into town for fish for sushi, was really disappointed with the highly rated Manhattan stores are came to fish tales. The fish was fantastic really fresh (it was monday) and the choice was large. King salmon was sublime, yellowfin fantastic, even torro that I cleaned and everything was good value. Expensive, yes, but you pay for sushi grade! For me, the best fish shop in NYC

This shop is one of my favorite places in all of Brooklyn. It's called Fish Tales. That has a double meaning, because they sell fish, which have tails. And they could also probably tell you tales about fish, because they've been doing it for a while. Get it? What would you do without me? I know they've been doing it for a long time because over the past 14 years, I've become a regular here. And they were a neighborhood institution before I moved in. I come in at least once or twice a week, because I like to eat seafood and in addition to having a sweet name, they've got high-quality EVERYTHING. Shrimp (of all sizes), crab, lobster tails, lobster claws, scallops, mussels, clams, bricks of frozen tuna, king crab legs, whole branzino and snapper, wild caught king salmon, arctic char...they've got it all. And you're going to pay for it, because as the sign says, fresh fish is not cheap, and cheap fish is not fresh. But it's worth it. In addition to the fresh, raw stuff, they've also got all kinds of prepared food. There's blackened or poached salmon wraps and sandwiches and salads for lunch. There's crabcakes, and lox, and whitefish, and shrimp cocktail, and fish tacos, and clam sauce for your linguini. They've got fish stock for you to make your own soups at home, and excellent soups that are ready to eat (my personal favorite is the smoked shrimp and corn chowder, but there isn't a bad one in the bunch). I'm sure there are other places that also have high quality product and delicious prepared food, but a couple things that set Fish Tales apart: 1. The staff. Shout out to Jose, Nicky Clams, and Chris, who are all holding it down most days, and all the dudes in the back cleaning and filleting and prepping the fish. These guys get up insanely early, work super hard, and are all personable and just all around awesome. Congrats to Nick on the birth of his twins too! 2. The smell. This is the only fish market I've ever been to that doesn't ever stink. Ever. It's just another way you can tell they care deeply about putting out quality product. I know that anything I buy from them is going to be good. And that's why I keep going back all the time. Anyway, I'll see you guys tomorrow.

This fish market has super fresh products with a great selection and you pay for it. I ordered a seafood platter with shrimp, crabmeat, lobster tails along with frozen mini crab cakes for a party. Needless to say it was a big hit. The order was ready for pick up on time. The workers were friendly and courteous. They failed to put in any cocktail sauces for the shrimps. I don't understand how that happened when the order was packed up and ready for pickup. Careless mistakes cost stars. Kudos for the cute lights hanging throughout the shop.

This place is amazing! If you're in cobble hill and looking for fresh fish this is the place to go. All their fish is tasty, fresh, and clean. Have tried a bunch of different types of fish here and they are all great. The staff is very friendly and helpful as well.

Fresh fish. Expensive but probably necessarily so. In their new location, which is very nice, it appears they have less staff. I did not find the staff friendly as it used to feel. Two staff people were putting fish away and only stared at me sullenly, no welcome or greeting, and the other staff person paid no attention either, no greeting, and was chatting with someone who came in, not a customer. I found it a different vibe from what it used to be. Rude.

I visited Fish Tales this past week and the fish is as fresh as ever! A minimal wait outside and great service inside. They even cleaned my shrimp for me for just an extra $1. Getting fresh seafood hasn't been the easiest since the pandemic, but Fish Tales has it all! You can call ahead, too, to place a pickup order.

This is a wonderful seafood market that has been open since the mid-90s. While I personally do not cook enough as I probably should, I go here pretty often for lunch or a light dinner. In terms of soups or stews, I have had their excellent rather famous fish chowder and also a very good Moroccan crab bisque. They also have a good looking clam chowder though I haven't partaken as well as a corn and shrimp soup. They also have a selection of wraps including ones with poached, smoked, or blackened salmon with the blackened being my favorite. Going with the blackened salmon/New Orleans theme, they have a fantastic po' boy (either shrimp or basa [a type of catfish] which is topped with a little bit of I believe remoulade and some tomato/lettuce (where I skipped the lettuce.) The only thing that thought I was just OK was being their poke as even though the tuna was very fresh, the rice was at the wrong temperature but hey it's not a Poke spot. I similarly haven't gotten their tacos as I didn't want to spend so much for them even if the fish is going to be fresh (and of course I've avoided anything with octopus/squid. In terms of other dishes, I tries the sole stuffed with crab meat as well as the crab cakes. Not too much filler in either of them and it's a whole lot better than most other crab cake outside of some restaurants but I find the other stuff better. As it is said there, "Cheap fish isn't fresh, Fresh fish isn't cheap." Sure it is pricey but you definitely get what you pay for and the staff here is also really nice. I am very much looking forward to when their soft shell crab/lobster rolls come back.

Ordered Bronzino, snow crab legs, clams oreganato and freshly shucked oysters for a special dinner. It was so fresh, everything was delish!! Definitely the best place to get fresh fish!

We have been getting our fish from here for years. It is always fresh and delicious. We've done the scallops, lobster, fluke(mostly other white fishes)... and nothing has ever failed us. The staff is all so sweet and accommodating. Never have I had a bad experience here. Only thing I will say is the lines can be very long especially on weekends.

This is our best local place to go for fresh fish. This place is a neighborhood institution. They have been in business for over 25 years. I went here this week with my mom. There were a few customers inside. The service was quick and efficient. The man who helped us did so with enthusiasm, precision, and great skill. The prices are varied and some are a bit high but you can only expect that with great quality food. The fish we cooked from here was delicious -wild king salmon and grey filet of sole. We will be making more frequent stops to this place.

This is the highest quality fish market in the area based upon the quality and service you get there consistently. It's a neighborhood establishment and always a pleasure to go in. When you are there, check out their soups and fish salads against the wall across from the counter- we have never been disappointed.

Love going to Fish Tales! Found this gem a while back and have been wanting to go. Ended up going there twice in one weekend just because the fish was so good! We bought fish and clams to make chowder and more fish to make sushi! Love the jumbo shrimp as well. The staff are super friendly and professional. Very COVID safe, as only 2 people are allowed in at the same time. I'm probably going to be visiting a lot moving forward!

Throughout my short life I have accumulated a not-so-short list of fears - heights, small spaces, spiders, delayed subway trains, skinny jeans, eating carbs after 5pm (the last two go hand in hand) - just to name a few. Fish Tales has helped me overcome one of my fears. I am talking about my trust issues with fish - buying it, cooking it, the quality I have gotten for what I have foolishly paid. I am a confident home cook, and I view cooking as a creative outlet rather than a chore. With that said, I have come across way too many seafood recipes that I glanced through in admiration and turned the page, having been burnt enough times in the past with less than thrilling dish outcomes. My life is now quite different. I ask for a one pound salmon fillet, the guy behind the counter confidently cuts off 1.01 pounds of salmon on his first try, and applause and fireworks roar in my head. I tell the employees about the latest Gordon Ramsay recipe I plan on torturing myself with tonight, and they tell me that they have already made that one themselves and brag about having met him. I get tired of eating mediocre, overpriced scallops at restaurants rated too highly by the masses, march to Fish Tales, and I cook up and eat more beautiful, buttery scallops than any reasonable human should ever eat in one sitting. I lustfully eye the gorgeous display of glistening Chilean sea bass, and my boyfriend raises his brow and crosses his arms. As a cheeky sign at Fish Tales reminds us, "fresh fish is not cheap, and cheap fish is not fresh". Well I'll remind you that nothing in New York is cheap, and even if you do pay top dollar, freshness is still not guaranteed everywhere. Long story short, I am grateful to have finally discovered a local fish store that can ease my seafood anxieties.

Fish tales provides high quality fresh seafood! Ive been about 5 times and everything i have purchased has been great , from my first time getting the fresh lump crab meat, to then a grab and go salmon sandwich to the shrimp cocktail to the hot lunch shrimp po boy and the basa fish po boy, all have been delicious, im currently awaiting for them to get in their soft shell crabs so i can try a soft shell crab sandwich!! Also the staff is very helpful and provide great recommendations for preparation selection, and pairings

The freshness is evident in the clear eyes of the whole fish. The variety is beautiful, the quality is evident. The care taken in wrapping freezer bound portions was exceptional. As a visitor from San Francisco, I was jealous not to have this close to me.

I first went to Fish Tales to look for something to supplement my brunch, and found the world's most delicious crab cakes! Truly 10/10. Since then I've gone back for various fish - the branzino is fabulous - and have never been disappointed. The staff is so friendly and knowledgeable (shout out to Chris who makes great recommendations!) and side note I've seen how they treat the neighborhood kids who come in with their families and it's too sweet to fit into this review (the swedish fish candies is the cutest touch). I would 1000% recommend this neighborhood institution.

The tuna we got for poke was delicious and the guy that served us was so nice. I wasn't sure what I was looking for but he was happy to help guide me towards what was best. I'll definitely be going back next time I need fish.

Found Fish Tales on google after searching for the best fish market near me. These guys are great. Super friendly and knowledgeable about their products. I was looking for some Tuna Belly but they didn't have it that day. That's because they pick out their fish everyday at 3am and apparently the Tuna was not up to par that day. It was ok because I went home with some salmon, Tuna, roe and caviar to make a nice sushi platter. Will definitely be coming back here for all of my fish and oyster needs. Highly recommend.

My favorite fish market- hands down. I have been customer for more than 10 years. The freshest seafood and prepared fish meals. Always such a high turnaround. The line does get long but moves fast. We also love their fresh lox. It IS expensive but well worth it!

Top quality fish and the best service by people who know their fish & know how to help you. My favorites include all clams, oysters, and muscles. Our standards include: s Swordfish, Arctic char, Branzino, Shrimp & Scallops. Also try the prepared salads, soups and much more. Highly recommend.

Where I live on SI, there are no quality fish stores, but I work near here so I make it a point to go at least once a week because the quality is so good. There's always a line, but it moves fast and it's worth it. Everything I've got from them has been outstanding. Today I decided to try some of their hot food and got the shrimp po boy, not surprisingly, it was so delicious. Much better than the place on Atlantic that calls themselves a po boy expert. Hot food, fresh fish, you can't miss with this place, and all of the people who work there are really nice and helpful too.

Featured on Bobby Flay's Throwdown show, Fish Tales is sort of an odd pick since they are not a restaurant. Oddly enough, they are a smallish fish market in Brooklyn. Apparently their claim to fame though is their Manhattan fish chowder. Fair enough. I reasoned I could stop by the store, pick up some chowder, and just heat it up at home for dinner. That should give me the throwdown experience. I did as much, but upon visiting the store, I was surprised that they don't exactly have much of their signature product. I scanned the shelf of ready made, refrigerated soups carefully, and, sure enough, there were only 3 pints left (at $6 apiece). I asked if they had any more available, and they said that was it. I really thought they would have more of the food they are supposedly famous for. Only 3 pints of soup for a dinner in would mean I need to cook something else to go with it. Oh well. Heating up the soup, I was surprised that there was very little fish in the fish chowder. It's kind of a misnomer really. In fact, many of the big white hunks were actually potato which served as filler since said potatoes were largely tasteless. There were plenty of vegetables though. In fact, one might be forgiven for thinking this was vegetable soup. The only indicators otherwise were the clear use of a fish stock over a vegetable stock and that rare sighting of a hunk of white fish. The soup was uninspired and really lacking in seasoning. Meh. I really can't say that Fish Tales is worth a trip here for their chowder. With a proper fish stock, it would be pretty easy to improve upon this recipe at home, so that would be the better route to take. Singularly unimpressive. Further, if you just want to come here for the fish, I would recommend Citarella instead as their selection is considerably better. Pass.

I grew up in Long Island, in one of its historic & still active fishing hubs. Thruout high school and college, I worked on clam boats and lobster boats (before most of LIs lobster stock mysteriously died off suddenly during the summer of 1999) and for the top distributor of local oysters making 1am trips into the (now relocated) Fulton Fish market to (mostly) sell, and buy (a lil bit). I grew up & moved into the city, & in my adult life I have been lucky enough to find myself back out in the Island quite frequently for work. I take my fish markets very seriously. There are some of the best out there, particularly when you are looking for local seafood. I thank my lucky stars that often times I am lucky enough to get day fresh seafood from my valued sources during my days working out there. There are a great many other days I cannot however, and when that is the case, this is my hands down go to fish source. It is the real deal and a BK treasure. Interestingly enough, this review is something of a paradox. Normally, most often concerning restaurants, I afford a great bit more latitude when reviewing places out in the Island, and normally hold NYC places to a higher standard, factoring in the lack of other quality options in the given area. The one category where this rule would be reversed would surely be this one; Fish markets. Make no bones about it; if this place were located out on the Island it would still rate a a excellent fish store indeed. Seeing as it is located in the middle of Brooklyn however, it shines much more brighter. It is simply the best in the borough, and among the best in the city. The quality is first class and the service second to none. Zero Pretension allowed, its strictly old Brooklyn Charm behind the counter even if its usually the epitome of New Brooklyn in front of it. I love those guys, they are masters of the dying art of customer service and appreciation, gotta love it when the staff goes out of their way to remember all of the many regulars names. They are world class, and in fact pretty much more educated and informative about seafood than you would actually find in most Long Island markets. While the stuff may not be quite as fresh for it would pretty much be logistically impossible to be so, it is pretty damn close. It is so comforting to know that all my favorites are within reach even without a trip out of city limits... LI Oysters, steamers, little necks, swordfish, monkfish, fluke, squid and more, its all here, enough to satisfy even the most hard core Long Island fish freak like myself. They also have an excellent selection of non local seafood, but as you might be able to tell, that's not really my focus. Take note I haven't really sampled to much of the prepared food here, I'm just not much of prepared food guy but I gotta assume it is good, I just feel like these guys care way too much about everything they sell. Oh yeah and the prices are very reasonable, especially given the location at the geographic center of one of Brooklyn's many yuppievilles.

Probably the best fish I've ever bought, including at restaurants. Chilean sea bass was extremely fresh. Cooked it in the oven. Very moist, light and rich at the same time.

My go to fish shop with top notch service. You can always get a recommendation for any recipe. They sell beautiful fish and seafood that is always fresh. Been coming here for over a year several times a month and have never left disappointed. Highly recommend.

This review is ONLY for the SOUPS Recommendation *Sadly they didn't have all the soups hot in the kettle, but the owners were kind enough to warm it up for us. *There's no room to sit, so grab this to go *Manhattan Fish Chowder: I never had tomato based chowder, so I can't really give an accurate rating. I love having an excuse to come here. Good selection of fresh fish, clams, oysters, and mussels, plus lots of sauces/extras available to go with them. They sell sashimi-grade salmon and tuna as well as everything you need to make homemade sushi, which is perfect for me. The staff is very pleasant and helpful, and seems to have a great rapport with their regular customers. The store is always pretty full when I go in but they keep the line moving efficiently so I've never had to wait for too long. Really glad to have a neighborhood place that has high quality products and can help me find exactly what I need.

Judging by the line, which stretches outside the door, I imagine that another five star review is superfluous for this business but they definitely merit one. The line reflects the demand, but also, the small space. It moves quickly, and the product is worth the wait. On our first trip we bought the swordfish, but we really probably could not have gone wrong with any choice. The swordfish was very fresh, with a lovely flavor, and texture. I look forward to returning.

This is my go-to fish market. It's so nice having a place dedicated to fresh, good fish in the neighborhood. There is the same reliability every day - fresh, good quality fish from both locally and not. The men behind the counter are knowledgeable and efficient. Their prepared seafood salads are surprisingly good, as well. The prices are comparable with Whole Foods, though slightly less for the most part. The fresh sashimi-grade tuna is the best deal. Never a bad experience here!

Fresh & delicious fish and friendly staff who will help give you cooking pointers. I walked in, herbs in hand, to buy mahi mahi only to learn it was sold out. What would I do with the ingredients? They recommended halibut instead and it was DELICIOUS. This is, hands down, the best place to buy fish in the neighborhood!

I was just there yesterday and have been shopping there for 2 years now without an issue. The man with a black beard and baseball hat, was extremely dismissive and rushing of my questions. When j asked him to repeat himself, he looked at me, rolled his eyes and ignored me. He then tried to tell me my 50$ bill was fake, and I took it to a bank and they confirmed it was not fake! This guy seemingly had it out for me. I'm very disappointed .

I am a big fan of this place. I went to find a place that sold sushi grade salmon for poke bowls and Fish Tales did not disappoint. The salmon was extremely fresh and the texture was perfect for poke. Their staff was super friendly and helpful with the salmon options. They also have some of the best smoked salmon at a super affordable price that I have had in New York. I look forward to going back and exploring more of their seafood.

I was looking for sushi grade fish to make some poke and this was the perfect spot! It is conveniently located down the street from my neighborhood Trader Joe's and I decided to pay them a visit this last Sunday. They have a good selection seafood and all related products. The staff helped me pick out half a pound of yellowfin tuna, half a pound of farmed salmon and some scallops for the poke and some smoked salmon for good measure. The credit card machine was down when I was there so I paid in cash. The fish and scallops were so fresh and delicious. I basically made around two pounds of poke and ate them all in two meals. Definitely be back for more!

This place is usually amazing and the guys really know what their doing so I never had to ask for the fish to be deboned. However I bought 2 pieces of sea bass there this weekend and the guy working the counter did not take the bones out- so disappointing. I will Probably go back because their selection is always fresh and good but I will be sure to check that they take the bones out

Delicious fresh fish- super nice guys- excellent pricing. They also put my oysters on ice so that they would travel in the heat. Really excellent customer service and these guys are clearly experts.

Superior fish market in the neighborhood. These guys are friendly, knowledgable about the daily catch (where the fish came from, flavor profiles, what it pairs well with) and are usually jawing with a regular about this fish or the other. Ask them to peel and devein your shrimp and cut the skin off your salmon. Last time I bought some bay scallops in there, they threw in two limes - which was great because I was making ceviche. You do pay a premium, but they run the show in the hood and are serving sushi grade fish (salmon, tuna). If you want cheaper you can certainly check out the fish joint further down on court but it's a gamble - and freshness varies. I want consistently fresh fish and I want to know where it came from. 5 stars in my book.

Fish Tales sells fresh, high quality fish, but the customer service is generally lacking. If you express a preference for a particular piece of fish, don't be surprised if you hear a snarky comment about how you chose the most inconvenient piece for the fish seller to reach for in the display case. If you are paying nearly $30/lb, you should be able to express a preference for which piece of fish looks good without being berated. The only bright spot in customer service is the good natured and friendly son of the owner, Chris.

I asked my wife to stop by and get some cod the other day. If they didn't have any cod, I said, ask for some other flaky white fish like cod, such as haddock or hake. The response to this none-too-baffling request at Fish Tales? "Cod is Cod, lady." Well, thanks. I'll give this another chance and re-rate.

Very good but somewhat overrated by neighborhood folks who love the idea they're in the know about a great local fishmonger. I live nearby and I wanted to love this place. Unfortunately not all the fish is *that* fresh. Staff is often helpful, though some of them have a little "we're the best, we know better" attitude. If you stick to the popular items that turnover quickly like wild salmon or oysters and you can get some really fresh, sush-grade quality fish. They have sold me packaged salmon eggs that are rotten. Avoid on holidays, they can't handle the rush.
