The 8 Cantonese Restaurants That Make Me Want to Move to Canada | Bon Appétit

"A plush, Vancouver-styled banquet dim sum destination on the second floor of a mall where check-in and a loudspeaker call are part of the ritual; service is calmer than more frenetic spots. Standouts include baked barbecue pork buns with a brittle, buttery pastry, shrimp-and-pea dumplings, and an iconic shredded cold chicken—sesame-oiled, crunchy with wonton chips and vegetables—that resembles an elevated chicken salad." - ByElyse Inamine

Fisherman’s Terrace | Bon Appétit

"GO HERE: for quality dim sum in Richmond, Vancouver’s easily accessible neighbor known for having the best Chinese food outside of China. Fisherman’s Terrace’s palatial space is located in a mall—as all good Richmond restaurants are—and stays busy from open to close. ORDER THE: shredded chicken cold plate (which you’re right, does not sound inspiring, but you won’t regret this savory-crunchy-pickle-y salad); Chinese doughnut rice rolls; flaky barbecue pork pastries; and deep-fried taro balls. The shrimp with leek dumplings, pan-fried eggplant with shrimp paste, and turnip cakes with preserved meat are also excellent, as is the XO sauce (go ahead and ask for another tiny bowl of it). The menu is very reasonably priced, so don’t hold back. THE VIBE IS: bustling, with the steady hum of clinking dishes, large families conversing, and small cousins chasing each other around the tables. PRACTICAL STUFF: Open every day, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for dim sum; and from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. for dinner. Reservations by phone are strongly recommended. In terms of getting there, hop on the SkyTrain (any headed south on the Canada Line to Richmond Brighouse) and exit at Aberdeen Centre. The station is connected directly to the mall where the restaurant is located. —Lindsay Anderson" - Condé Nast

Google
Great dim sum spot! We made a reservation, which I highly recommend because the place is popular—there were about 20 people in the reservation line alone, plus a separate line for walk-ins. The food quality was excellent and the pricing felt very fair. The environment is nice, though be aware there is a standard per-person tea charge. It’s a very busy, high-energy atmosphere. The only reason I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is that it lacks a bit of a "personal touch." Service is efficient but there isn't much interaction with the staff. Overall, I’d definitely come back for the food!

Google
Fisherman's Terrace Seafood Restaurant is a highly popular, large Cantonese restaurant in Richmond, BC, known for its authentic dim sum, fresh seafood, and elegant setting inside Aberdeen Centre, a major mall in Richmond, BC. They offer a vast menu with English and Chinese options, specializing in classic dishes like shrimp dumplings (har gow), pork buns (siu mai), and steamed chicken, making it a go-to spot for family gatherings and banquets. They are located on the third floor and they have free parking located inside their multi level parkade. I think they have a 3 hour limit parking but don’t quote me on it. I just don’t remember what the signs said about the hourly limits. The dim sum is tasty. It’s a busy location with a lot of Aunties, Uncles, and elders. I wasn’t expecting the portions to be a touch smaller than average. Perhaps it was an off day? The Su Mai, pork and prawn dumplings was small. The Egg tarts were small. The sticky rice was small too. Definitely no complaints on the taste. It’s tasty. But compared to other competitors, other places easily scored higher on value for the same quality with more quantity. By the way if anyone is wondering, the tea fee is $2.00. I would love to come again to try their dinner menu soon.

Google
Fisherman's Terrace is a highly recommended dim sum spot, conveniently located on the 3rd floor of the Aberdeen Centre. The restaurant itself is glamorous and spacious, providing a comfortable and enjoyable setting for a meal. The dim sum is really good, consistently made with fresh ingredients and served in good portions. What truly sets this place apart is the quick and attentive service. I still remember the kind smile of the old male server, a detail that highlights their commitment to a pleasant dining experience. An English menu is available, making it welcoming for everyone.

Google
Food was honestly, average. Service was terrible with waitress demanding for more tips even though we tipped more than fairly for the quality of service we got. No clue why this place so crowded when there are so many other better options elsewhere. Portions were slightly on the smaller side of dimsum restaurants with flavour being so-so. Salted egg custard bun was were thick and floury instead of light and fluffy. Soy sauce chicken was just a very skinny chicken, I think they bought the chicken from KFC given how much bones and how little meat there was. The dishes were dirty when we arrived with bits of old vegetable stuck to chopsticks and bowls, but we cleaned it up ourselves as the restaurant was slightly busy. When we went to pay we were told that we didn’t tip enough which was frankly surprising as we were three people paying close to 100 and all the server did was bring the food. Would not recommend this place due to servers demanding more tips when they just do the bare minimum and food being extremely mediocre.

Google
Solo weekend dim sum brunch, haven’t been here for a while, and the reviews online has still been great, have to come back and verify Food is still as good as I remember, very similar to the quality in Hong Kong. Yes, that’s where I grew up in. Service was very good too, they are busy but still show friendliness. Love it Decor is still good, even it’s been here for a long time. It’s a bit dated, but it’s the timeless style that shows character. 100% coming back. Hope you like it too

Google
Saturday around noon and rainy so the mall’s parking was a brutally slow go so we parked elsewhere nearby. We reserved and only needed to wait 15 minutes before being seated. The food and service was excellent. $6.00 for a pot of tee ? I think the shrimp are local and fresh. Very popular and busy restaurant. Interesting menu. I would recommend and return but at a less busy time.

Google
This is a great place to have dim sum or dinner with friends and family. They are also great for reunions and the like too. Parking is good in that it's all covered and connected, so it is no issue when there's rain or snow. Parking can be atrocious though when there are too many cars and there's just stagnant congestion.

Google
This is my regular dining place when in vancouver. We often ordered the alaskan lobster, pepper beef and crabmeat soup. I love the crab claws dish most. Juicy, bouncy and tasty. Really recommended. They hv dimsum menu tok and the dimsum is equally good.

Yelp
We were a group of 4 for dinner. We had the Peking Duck 2 ways and Green Beans with Garlic. The crispy duck skin came sliced over a bed of fried shrimp crackers. It had enough moist meat underneath and it came with the thin crepes, scallions and hoisin sauce. The second way was the diced duck meat with iceberg lettuce wraps. Everything really tasted good. The green beans were perfect, as well with slightly cooked garlic over it. The restaurant is huge, filled with large tables of diners. It is well lit and clean looking. It's on the 4th floor of Aberdeen Mall. This is our 2nd time here. But the last time we were here was many years ago and during the day for Dimsum. It hasn't lost its touch with food. Servers are plentiful and highly attentive. They're quick to bring what you want.

Yelp
We have eaten at Fisherman's Terrace many years ago. Glad we did again. It made me realize how fantastic the food is. We ordered Peking duck - 2 ways and green. Sans with garlic. The 4 of us had enough to eat. Really great food, so fresh and delicious. Service is great. Servers were attentive and friendly. Nice restaurant. Very busy night with so many people. Great place. Fantastic food! Will go back to try dimsum again.

Yelp
We come here pretty often for lunch whenever we're in Richmond, BC. It's a classic spot, and their dim sum has been consistent over the years. Great place to bring the family. Parking is usually easy since they have a large parking garage inside Aberdeen Centre, which is super convenient if you want to do some shopping before or after your meal (or even while waiting for a table). FYI they don't do cart service. This time around we ordered takeout since we were running behind schedule and already knew how packed it gets. The sticky rice in bamboo leaves was a little soggy and not as firm as I remember from past visits, but everything else was just as yummy as always. Still a reliable dim sum spot that we'll continue coming back to.
google avatar

Yelp
This is our first time trying out this popular dim sum spot inside the Aberdeen shopping building. Food overall is decent with variety of options. However, the staffs has very limited English communication. Their Peking duck version is another PF Chang duck wrap with lettuce. They shouldn't deceive guest by saying Peking duck. This dish is nowhere the meaning of Peking Duck. The meat pieces are chopped up in minced pieces, stirred fried and eat with lettuce wrap. Again, the waitress couldn't deliver the dish and kept saying first and second course. It's a completely different version of Peking Duck. Cheung fun with mince beef or shrimp is doughy like and not thin chewy like other location. The steam shrimp dimpling is delicious and tastes pretty fresh. Overall, the environment is good but the service seriously needs fixing if catering to non-Chinese speaking guests.

Yelp
Great spot for dim sum! We came on a weekend so it was pretty busy, but we made a reservation and were able to get seated on time. We got a variety of items and everything was tasty. The baked bbq pork pastry was especially delicious - I'd highly recommend getting these! I still think about these lol. Price was very reasonable too. This is a great spot if you're looking for dim sum.

Yelp
We were there last September. Food is good. Went back two weeks ago on Monday night. All the dishes were disappointing. Maybe the chef was off that night. The menu looks terrible, totally worn out, and fell apart. Service is so so.

Yelp
We frequent Fisherman's Terrace Seafood Restaurant for dinner as parking is ample, location is great, seating is comfortable and service is always solid. We came here for dim sum this time and ordered the following: Lobster congee: fresh and filling Shrimp stuffed crab claw: delicious anbd chewy Chicken rice roll: They were missing bittermelon Steamed beef balls: good Shrimp and pea shoot fried bean curd roll: crunchy and tasty It was easy to get a table after making reservations early in the morning. I would recommend Fisherman's Terrace Seafood Restaurant for family gatherings with the additional perk of strolling Aberdeen Center after the meal.

Yelp
Made a reservation in advance for dinner at 6 and was seated promptly upon arrival. It's a very popular restaurant and the tables filled up quickly after we were seated so I definitely recommend making a reservation for both dimsum and dinner. Otherwise you run the risk of getting turned away. Ambience was upscale and classy. Service was ok. It took a while to flag someone to take our order and pay the bill because there were a ton of tables and not enough workers. However, the delicious food made up for the mediocre service. We got the roast suckling pig platter with jellyfish, cha siu and roast duck and wow this roast pork was absolutely phenomenal! I've had this dish many times in NYC and was never a fan of it because it's either too salty from the sauce that they put on it or the skin is too rubbery. The skin on the one here was so crispy I could hear it crackle as I bit into it! Almost felt like I was biting into thick potato chip. There was also a good amount of meat, unlike ones I've had elsewhere where it's just a thin sliver of meat. The roast duck was also remarkable but I found the jellyfish a bit too salty from the soy sauce that they added. The cha siu was alright. We also ordered the chicken and abalone fried rice and this dish was amazing as well! The rice was cooked perfectly and the abalone added a nice bite to the dish. We had the leftovers for dinner several days later and it still tasted delicious. YUM!

Yelp
Quality dim sum, no cart service. We ordered the siu mai, bean curd pork rolls, spare ribs and the chives har gow (since we'd never had the chives version before). All were fresh, hot and tasty, especially the chives har gow. We don't have that version in our area, and the chives really added depth in flavor. We would've liked to order more, but were saving room to try other goodies in the area. Only negative is that there wasn't the typical soy sauce and hot chili oil on the table, and when we asked for the chili oil, the server gave us a blank stare (as if she'd never heard of it before, and we spoke in Chinese). Finally she said "hot sauce?", and we agreed since we thought every Chinese restaurant knew it meant the hot chili oil. But no, she brought back a dish of sriracha instead, which I've never used or seen anyone use on dim sum. Really odd. I thought it might've not been customary for this restaurant to have these requisite sauces, but when we got up to leave, we saw plenty of tables in the front who had both soy sauce and hot chili oil by default. So minus a star there for the awkward service. Otherwise, well worth the visit.

Yelp
Really good dim sum in the Richmond new Chinatown. We've had dim sum in many restaurants from New York to Hawaii. This was one of the better ones. Every dish was delicious. The wait for a table was long on a weekday. Most of the diners were Chinese and the servers and hostess incorrectly assumed that I could understand and speak Chinese. Pricey for dim sum and they charge $2 for tea for each person. For the dim sum I'd definitely return! Restaurant is located on third floor of an Asian Mall with H Mart on the ground floor.

Yelp
Conveniently located inside Aberdeen mall on the 3rd floor. We came as soon as it opened at 10am. It was already packed with people. Locals seem to come here pretty often. We got seated right away. There were a lot of options of dim sum and dishes. We ordered a variety of dim sum. Some were good and some were okay. Pricing was decent. Although it was busy, service was pretty attentive.
google avatar

Katherine G.

Yelp
A good, but hard to find spot for dim sum! Not sure why we had such a difficult time navigating here but we did. It's on the third floor of the mall on a corner. We had to wait around 15 minutes for a table, but that wasn't too bad. We got chrysanthemum tea to begin which was good, and they have quite an efficient refill service with the hot water. For food we got the shumai, bbq pork buns, scallop rice rolls, bean curd roll, radish cake, egg tart, and bittermelon black sesame balls. Everything was great! The shumai were juicy despite not being the absolute best I've had. The standouts were absolutely the bbq pork buns and radish cake -- these were some of the best I've had anywhere. The bao was so fresh and fluffy, while the radish cake had such a good balance of radish and chinese sausage flavor. For dessert, the black sesame balls were fantastic -- sesame flavor was so abundant and strong, while the egg tart had a biscuit-ey tasting crust. Service wasn't the most attentive but they got the job done. It seemed to be pretty busy the whole time, so made sense with not that many workers. If you need to satisfy that dim sum craving, this spot does the job!
google avatar

Andrew S.

Yelp
This place used to be really good but lately, it's has gone down a little, hence the 3 stars. The service is good, even when it's busy, which it normally is. The food is good, however the portions seems a little smaller than before. The dumplings used to be bigger. If you decide to come here for dim sum, I'd recommend making reservations as you'll probably still wait. It is loud inside as with most dim sum places.
google avatar

Christy N.

Yelp
The place is located on 3rd floor of Aberdeen centre. Easy to find and great parking. The inside was clean and bright. It was about an 1 hr wait, but honestly that's not a problem since there's plenty of shops to waste time. Oomomo is my favorite shop at the mall The service was meh. Had to chase down a couple of servers and keep on reminding them about certain things. It was quite annoying at the end because I asked them 4 times for the bill. The food is also just okay. I've been to plenty of dim sum restaurants in Richmond area and this one didn't hit the spot like others have. It's just very average. I felt like the flavors were lacking something, but I'm not exactly sure what... I'm sure everyone has their personal preferences on what the best dim sum place is, but this one didn't satisfy my craving I probably wouldn't recommend or go back. Sorrry

Suzie P.

Yelp
We normally come here everytime we visit Richmond but this may be the last. The food quality is decent but we feel its dropped. Server was quite unfriendly and there were several mistakes on the menu. One item (pan fried shrimp and chives dumplings) was available on chinese but not English menu and another one was listed incorrectly. On top of that they increased the automatic place setting charge (which they call a tea charge, but you have to pay it even if you dont get tea) to $2 per person.

Yelp
This restaurant is on the 3rd floor inside Aberdeen Centre in Richmond BC, and its inside decor doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the mall's design; it's quite fancy inside with nice lights and a clean feel, like you could hold a wedding inside if you wanted. It took us a while to get seated here on a Thursday noon around 11am since there was already a ton of huge groups inside. Menus are provided in both English and Chinese when you walk in. We got a variety of things here, and they were all very good, coupled with fast and efficient service: - The pork dumplings (siu mai) was extremely fresh all around. - The Chinese donut rice noodle had a good amount of green onions, and came with peanut butter, hoisin sauce and soy sauce as dips. - The deep fried meat dumplings were small but extremely tasty with meat filling that was soft and not overly salty. The dumplings didn't have excess oil on them either, a big plus. - The pan fried shrimp and minced pork buns had a savory inside that actually made me wanna go for another round; the ratio of meats was just right. - I've never had chilled osmanthus cake back in Seattle but wow was this a clean dessert compared to other things I get! Sweet, but not too sweet; and not too hard to grab either. - Everything else (shrimp dumpling, bean curds, sponge cake, pan fried shrimp with green chive patties) wasn't too memorable. A solid place for dim sum, and one of many fancy ones too!
google avatar

Vanessa W.

Yelp
Award winning dim sum! There were a lot of choices! We also got an additional dish of fried rice and it came out hot, fresh and delicious ! If you're in BC you must try! Weekends = long line up but worth the wait. We stopped by here before flying out back to Toronto, super close to the airport as well.
google avatar

Stephanie M.

Yelp
We came at 11:30 am on a Saturday and there was no line for a table. Tea ($2.00 each) We got pork dumplings ($8.95), pan fried turnip cakes ($8.25), deep fried meat dumpling ($8.95) and custard bun ($8.95) For the price - they are very generous with the portions here The turnip cakes were pretty bad. There was absolutely no turnip flavour and it had too much flour. The custard buns were not bad. It wasn't too sweet and the egg yolk flavour was pretty strong. The pork dumplings were huge but the outside wrapper broke too easily and was too thin. Flavour wise it was mediocre The deep fried meat dumpling was crispy on the outside but the wrapper was way too thick. The filling inside was okay Overall this place wasn't as good as it used to be. It's cheap for dimsum but the quality isn't on par with other places in Richmond.
google avatar

Yelp
Went there for family dinner...place was situated in Aberdeen Centre... lots of parking available. The restaurant is quite big & nicely spaced table. Service is good, no complaints. Food is good & nicely presented. All in all a good experience for decent Chinese food. This restaurant has been here for a long time which is a testament to decent & good Chinese food.

Yelp
There's plenty of yummy Asian food in the Richmond area of Vancouver and we decided on this spot since we wanted dim sum and also to do some shopping since they are located inside Aberdeen Centre. Ordering is done on the paper, which makes it easier to choose your dishes rather than wait for the carts. We got all of our favorites: Har Gow, Siu Mai, Lo Bak Go, and Cheung Fun. They were all delicious and the portion size was good. We also tried the Shrimp Dumpling with Sharkfin Soup, this was a flavorful soup and we were able to split it between four people. The Chinese Donut Rice Rolls was also a delicious pick.
google avatar

Ethan C.

Yelp
Honestly pretty mid - they give you very large portions of dim sum but the flavor is not great. Some dishes were way to salty and lacked flavor.
google avatar

Alex C.

Yelp
This is a Chinese restaurant in Aberdeen center. Went here for dim sum on a weekend and it does get busy. Service is fast, food is great, and the price is very reasonable. Would recommend.

Yelp
We always come for dim sum from seattle. Normally we either go to kirin or sun Sui Wah. But we want to try different ones, which is a lot in richmond area. This one is located inside Aberdeen Center, 3rd floor Parking: inside bldg, plenty of free 3 hour parking. There's 2 lines to check in: with reservations or walk in. We didn't have any reservation, so we probably wait about good 10 minutes. We were there first in line 5 min before they open on Sunday morning. Menu: just check the item you want, the servers will grab and send order to kitchen. You can add more along the way. Fyi: tea is $2 per person Chili paste: free Very clean restaurant Food served fast Very friendly and attentive service, I love it. Restroom is middle area, go out through the door out to the hall way. Will definitely come back for more next time.

Yelp
Went for a mid week brunch at Fisherman's Terrace. Was surprisingly busy with lots of families going for dim sum. Ordered a bunch of dishes to share - my favourite being a stir fry glass noodle that was bouncy, spicy and full of wok hey. The fried mochi dumpling had a good outer layer but I wish the filling had more variation rather than just ground pork such as chives. Apparently having just ground pork is how Hong Kong does their fried mochi dumplings. The tea they offered was very good quality as well. Overall a great dim sum lunch!

Cindy L.

Yelp
This is going to sound weird, but I have never experienced such impeccable service at a Chinese restaurant. Yes, instead of talking about how great the food was, it was outshined by their service. Our waitress felt like she was on standby next to us and waiting to change every plate that we barely dirty. They very super attentive and plan ahead for every course. Now... the food. We had lobster e-mein, steamed scallops with glass noodle, roast meat appetizers sampler and stir fried bean sprouts. The food was okay but no wow factor.
google avatar

Nick A.

Yelp
This place is very popular for dim sum, as indicated by lines out the door. The restaurant is large but can be loud because of having so many people around you, Once seated, it took a while to get our food (order by menu, not cart). The dim sum itself was decent, not totally amazing. We ordered the standard har gaw, siu mai, lo mai gai, etc. Outside of the slow service, this restaurant is a reasonable place for dim sum.
google avatar

Kmaintl L.

Yelp
Food and service was quick. Every dim sum dish arrived hot like it's supposed to. Have no idea of value as our friends picked up the bill.
google avatar

Marilyn V.

Yelp
Five star Chinese restaurant whether it's Dimsum or laureate dinner. Came here on a Saturday with an 11:00 reservation for dimsum. We waited a bit to be seated but it was worth the wait. Service is quick. Staff is very good even with my little Cantonese and limited Mandarin, we understood each other. Ordered their signature crab and THIS IS A MUST ORDER! It is flooded with crispy garlic and dried shrimp 蝦米 sautéed with chili. It is ever so good. Every other dish on their Dimsum list is very delicious you won't go wrong. And not to forget the Bitter Melon with Black Sesame filling 涼瓜芝麻湯丸. A nice sweet ending to a lovely Dimsum.

Yelp
Solid dimsum spot in Aberdeen Mall. I came with 5 others for dimsum Sunday afternoon around 1:20. We had a reservation, so we were seated as soon as we arrived. I saw some folks waiting outside, so I assume there was a wait for walk-ins. They have full dimsum menus in English and Chinese depending on your preference. We got both to be sure we weren't missing anything, but after comparing the two, it looks like they're the same. We shared a bunch of dishes. Everything was pretty solid with not a single bad dish. The highlights of the meal for me were the fried squid, sticky rice, and shrimp spring roll. In general dimsum is not very vegetarian friendly, but usually there are still a handful of savory items available. Here the savory vegetarian selection is more limited, unless I missed something. We ordered the Chinese donut in rice noodle roll for my vegetarian friend but that was it.
google avatar

Mark Y.

Yelp
Haven't been here in more than 10 years and glad we did and will put it back in my dim sum rotation! My only gripe was we made a reservation a few days ahead but it didn't matter as you'll get stuck waiting like the others who show up. All the dim sum was good and came out piping hot. The two dishes that stood to me was the pan fried stuffed egg plant ($8.95 CAD) and the deep fried shrimp bean curd ($9.50) which had a crunchy texture on the outside and stuffed with shrimp and pea vine. We also had the shrimp dumplings ($8.95) and were quite large, chicken feet (8.25), and the tofu skin roll ($8.25). My only won't get next time was the beef rice roll ($9.50) which the roll seemed a bit soggy and overcooked. If you get tea it'll set you back $4. The service was good, the place has ample tables and seating but gets crowded especially on weekends or lunch hour, and the ambiance was lively and loud and that's atypical of any Chinese restaurant.

Yelp
Best chicken I've had. Better than in mainland. Usually don't write reviews. High quality even given Richmond competition

Yelp
I cannot stop thinking about dim sum from Vancouver. Just simply amazing. This one is a more traditional style of dim sum and it completely satisfied my cravings! We got the bean curd and mushroom, spring rolls, crispy vegetarian goose and shanghai noodles. I also noticed their "chicken feet" is in Thai style which isn't traditional and so I ended up getting the steamed chicken dish. The spring rolls were a classic no brainer, tastes great. The bean curd and mushroom dish and the crispy vegetarian goose was perfect contenders for vegetarians as they're both made with bean curd. Just one braised, one crispy! The bean curd here is so good it left me wanting more. I am definitely a meat eater but the crispy vegetarian goose did blow my mind. The shanghai noodles were so tasty and I couldn't stop eating it. The flavor was so good! Last but not least, the steamed chicken took me back to my late grandmother and it just tasted so authentic and it's my favorite kind of steamed chicken. It was filled with a rich flavor I am used to back at home I was really happy with everything we got. And as far as service goes since that's what most people are complaining on Yelp here- it's good! I had a blue haired man as my waiter and he was attentive and was great and taking our orders and if you just open your tea lid and place it on the handle they'll swoop in and grab you another one.

Yelp
Oof....this was a real miss for me. Atmosphere: They are super busy but they do take rezzies. We called a few days ahead and were able to get a table for 12. I was grateful because the last time I tried to come here for dinner, they were booked up for 2 hours and wouldn't put anymore people on the waitlist. So I was really excited to eat here when we finally got on the list for dim sum. Food: What can I say....it just wasn't good. Most of the things were Average and some things were just bad. Average things were like Pheonix (Chicken)Feet and Har gow. But the things that stood out to me that were just BAD were the Shu Mai - they're smaller than average size and they did not taste good. The Cha Sui Buns - small filling and flavors were not there and the filling was mushy. The Century Egg & Pork Porridge was bland and just tasted like water. Had no tiny pieces of pork and century egg. Service: It was so chaotic in here. Everyone was busy and it was hard to get anyone's attention. The guy who seated us asked us what tea we wanted and I asked what kind he had and then he just walked away and brought us a random tea. You order from a slip (had English & Chinese) and turn it in. Then they print out a receipt all in Chinese. Apparently they got one of our orders wrong but we weren't able to catch it until the dish was delivered (and it was 2 large dishes) and we told them we didn't order it but they pointed to it on the receipt which was in Chinese and we said we couldn't read it and didn't check it off on our slip. They ignored us and continued to go on with everything. We asked for our original order and they finally brought us the buns (which weren't even good) and did not admit fault. They charged us for everything even though we didn't order it and told them twice. Honestly the whole experience was super disappointing. Oh and the price was pretty high for what we got. I have always had excellent dim sum in Richmond because that is what is expected here. I don't know how this place has such ratings. It honestly was one of the worst dim sum places I had been.

Yelp
Took a trek out to Richmond while visiting Vancouver. This was one of the recommended dim sum places in Richmond. Located on the third level of Aberdeen mall. No wait ok a weekday morning. Had traditional hk style dim sum offerings. Was a little disappointed they did not have the fried taro pastry. We tried salted egg yolk buns (sweet), shrimp dumpling with fried tofu underneath, fried tofu skin stuffed with fish and shrimp paste wrapped with rice noodle roll, and pork and chive dumpling. Food was standard , nothing too outstanding. Overall for these 4 dishes and two person tea charge, it was abt $37. Seems a bit expensive/higher end for standard fare.

Yelp
At 11:30, they told us to come back at 12:30 pm for dim sum but seated literally every party that walked up after us before us. Like 10 parties of equal or larger size. It definitely felt like we were being discriminated against for being english-native Asians. We would have left but had been waiting for a long time at that point and were hungry! Food otherwise was ok. I will never return.

Yelp
I didn't have high expectations for this restaurant, because we were just lookin for a place to have dim sum after being denied entry to Kirin because we didn't have a reservation (!). It is on the third floor of a mall full of Asian stores and restaurants, and somewhat unassuming. The Yelp reviews were also not super great ... This was our first Chinese restaurant in Vancouver on a trip from the Bay Area. However, I feel like the levels must be different in Vancouver vs. the Bay Area for Chinese food. This would be one of the top dim sum places in the Bay Area, and I would be happy to go here every week or have it be my "go to" place. We got in without a wait, and the food was great, the service was good, and the atmosphere is what a dim sum place should be like -- bustling and clanking and happy people enjoying their time with family and friends ... It's kind of intimidating in a way that this is a 3.7 star rating in Vancouver ... how good must the 4+ star places be?! My favorite dish was the bitter melon mochi black sesame ball ...

Yelp
One of the best spots for the freshest seafood. They recently introduced a happy hour menu, so more fun discounts on drinks and seafood.

Yelp
I'm o-FISH-ially full after I DIM SUM-thing like ordering too much! My day was off to a great TART, no JOOK. I was RUNNING around with my CHICKEN FEET and it was not CHEUNG FUN at all. You can find all your original favourite dim sum items at Fisherman's Terrace Seafood Restaurant at Aberdeen Center. We chose to have dim sum here for the leather jacket fish. They used to have a better version of this fish, but it's still delicious. The location is fantastic and there's free covered parking for those rainy days. On the table: Leather Jacket Fish w/Seasoning Sauce 11.50 Steamed Chicken Feet w/ Peanuts 6.95 Mini Sticky Rice in Bamboo Leaves 7.95 Baked Egg Tarts 5.50 Minced Beef in Rice Noodle Wrap 8.55 Pork and century egg congee 9.80

Yelp
My nephew is in town and he loves Peking Duck. It's crazy how expensive it's gotten since Covid, but after doing some Yelp reviews, decided to try this place. It's in Aberdeen Mall on the 3rd floor. It's very large, clean and seemed busy. We went on a Friday night at 6:30pm. I was very disappointed that we sat at our table for a good 15 minutes before anyone came by to ask if we wanted drinks etc. I actually got up from my seat to speak to the hostess, since me waving my hand didn't seem to catch any servers eye. It was busy! There was 8 of us and we ordered the 2 course Peking duck for $88, pork chop with mayonnaise sauce, house special chow main, and gai lun with oyster sauce. The duck was delicious, especially the lettuce wrap. The portion was huge and fed all 8 of us perfectly. I can't actually complain about any dish. They were all served with big portions and excellent quality. We will definitely be coming back for their Peking duck.

Yelp
This is where we had our dinner reception after our Chinese and Korean tea ceremony so this place will hold a dear place in my heart. I really liked how they made sure they decorated our place nicely for the reception. The servers helped us with so many things like pouring drinks, getting decorations set up, cleaning up, serving food, cake cutting and setting up the microphone for the speeches. Also, the food was really good. I liked everything that I tried but it was kind of hard to just enjoy the meal with all the craziness going on. I wish I could have sat and enjoyed everything more. I would recommend this place if you need to do a Chinese banquet too!

Yelp
Wow... I had the best dim sum of my life at Fisherman's Terrace this past weekend. My partner and I decided to take a last minute trip to Vancouver over the MLK holiday, so I didn't have time to do thorough research on which restaurants we needed to try. Luckily, Fisherman's Terrace was #1 on many Vancouver foodie lists and highly recommended amongst my dim sum connoisseur friends. I was blown away. Everything we ordered was extremely fresh and all pieces of food were consistent in size and flavor. The har gao was made perfectly and the siu mai had a unique depth flavor with the tobiko on top. The sticky rice in banana leaves had consistent stuffing and the tripe was flavorful and tender. Although this meal was a lot more than what I usually pay for dim sum (most dishes being $8.60), the price was so worth it. Note that this restaurant is in a shopping mall and parking is free. Please visit if you're in Richmond/Vancouver!

Yelp
5 stars for the fried tofu skin with shrimp and chives alone. Honestly the best iteration I have had of this dish anywhere except maybe Hong Kong. We ordered a lot of different things - most of which I didn't manage to take photos of. Our favorites were the seafood-based items (including the shrimp patty, salt and pepper squid, har gow, etc.). We also got bbq pork with rice for our picky eater child - it was quite good. The one let down was the spare ribs; they had a prominent Shaoxing flavor, probably from not cooking off the alcohol. Service was excellent; tea and water was constantly refilled without asking.

Yelp
Authentic HK style dim sum with great selection. Nice decor and quiet place for a morning or afternoon. Didn't get a chance to try their dinner menu, will do that next time. Love the BBQ pork pie

Yelp
It's on the higher end of dim sum price wise, and their portions seemingly got smaller over the years. The service was just so-so as well, so I think there are better places to recommend for dim sum in Richmond

Yelp
Tied the classics (shui mai, har gow, shrimp chive dumplings) and a few harder to find options (white chicken feet, deep fried salt/pepper squid, curry baby squid). Overall great, service and ambience is pretty standard for a dim sum spot. Lots of options, but not enough mouths so will have to come back again to try more!

Yelp
Has really dropped off over the years. When I still lived in BC in the early 2010s, this place was a solid choice for dim sum. Came back for a visit in 2022 and was majorly disappointed. - The hot sauce has a weird metallic taste to it - har gow skins are much thicker and has less flavour to it. Previously it had some bamboo shoots in it but now it seems like just shrimp and binder in the filling - Siu mai were also much more flavourful in the past with more porky and shrimp taste but now it's kind of this weird mush with of meat. Even the green/yellow skin had flavour before. - bean curd rolls don't taste very fresh and don't really have any filling in it, just a lot of bean curd now - pan fried shrimp and leek discs(?) are hardly pan fried and are lacking the distinct leeky taste - They no longer have pan fried short ribs, deep fried shrimp balls or the deep fried shrimp/crab claws which was a disappointment I think the head chef must have changed since I was here last and I can no longer recommend this place. Save yourself the line up and go to another place. It's not awful but definitely could have been better, nothing tasted particularly fresh or interesting.

Yelp
This was the first place I ate Dim Sum during my time in Vancouver for my trip and I was impressed! I visited this restaurant at 12:00 P.M. yesterday and the ambience was average for a Dim Sum restaurant. Also, the service was good when ordering and asking questions. The staff were extremely nice, attentive, and brought my first dish to me within five minutes of ordering. Furthermore, I was swiftly seated due to making a reservation the previous day which was definitely needed. The first item that I ordered was the Har Gow Siu Mai which had a wrapper with the perfect thickness and flavor that was well balanced. The second item that I ordered was the Shrimp Rice Roll which contained shrimp that was well seasoned and a good wrapper. The next item that I ordered was the Har Gow which had a wonderful shrimp and wrapper. The fourth item that I ordered was the Steamed Barbeque Pork Bun which had a fluffy bun, tender pork, and enough sauce inside. Then, I ordered the Eggplant With Shrimp which had a crispy eggplant, smoky flavor, and a crispy shrimp. The sixth item that I ordered was the Pan Fried Turnip Cake which had a crispy outside, soft inside, and the perfect flavor. The last item that I ordered was the Mango Soup which had a well balanced sweetness between mango and tapioca balls. Also, it contained coconut milk and had the perfect texture. Furthermore, the flavor was wonderfully balanced between the mango and coconut flavors. This was an amazing experience and I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to go to a good Dim Sum restaurant!

Yelp
Its very hard for the restaurant to maintain the same standard. But this restaurant did it. They have be an established restaurant for many years and yet it still maintain its quality. The place is more traditional but never once this place is not crowded. You could see oldies are enjoying their tea time. The food is the same old traditional way and taste no fancy deco or modernized. The congee has always been my fave. Try this dim summplce if you are in the aberdeen mall area. Its not the modernized restaurant, but it sure will offer you the old days flavor.
