The 9 Best Donut Shops in Atlanta - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"Originally started by a Tennessee couple, who (you guessed it) has five daughters, this doughnut chain is famous for its 100-layer croissant-doughnut hybrids. With two Atlanta locations (a walk-up counter on the Westside and a stall in Ponce City Market), we’re partial to the bigger PCM one, so after lunch in the market, we can pick up a fresh strawberry lemon shortcake donut, which is basically just dessert." - juli horsford, demarco williams

We first visited their location in Nashville years ago and loved their donuts. Unfortunately not the same experience in the Avalon location. I ordered the Vanilla Cream and was very disappointed in the flavor. The icing had little to no vanilla flavor and the texture was heavy, a lot more whipping and vanilla was needed. The donut itself was fine texture wise but again lacked flavor. My husband had the maple bacon which he enjoyed. There is a nice patio seating area in the shade which we enjoyed.

I have ordered more than 20 times—mostly, it’s my wife’s indulgence. Sometimes, simplicity matters. The “purist” donut—although it feels like a compromise while ordering just by nature of its title—both feels and tastes like communion with God. It is pure delectation. I have never found another donut that can replicate the texture and taste of this experience. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of their other concoctions, and I have tried many. With each, you taste the struggle of recreation and not the experience of perfection. For anyone hesitant of sounding mundane, take my advice and order the basic, “purist” donut. It will never disappoint.

Google
The service was very good and the environment was lovely. They were slightly expensive, as I would expect from this location ($5 each). The doughnuts have a lot of filling which I love, and we got the lemon and chocolate cronuts. If you love a very sweet croissant, you will love these! I like their variety of options as well.

Google
The place is beautiful, clean, and the pastries look great. However, there’s only one employee, and she wasn’t friendly — no greeting or smile. Service was very slow even with a long line. I ordered a cappuccino, but it was watery and had no foam, and the Americano was also weak. They should definitely have someone with more barista experience.

Google
This is unlike any dessert I’ve tried before. It’s so light and fluffy, not too sweet either. Sweetest staff though, I love coming here for a sweet treat!

Google
Absolutely fantastic spot with unreal delicious treats—these doughnuts are on another level. The famous 100-layer doughnut is everything it’s hyped up to be: flaky, rich, and perfectly sweet. They also offer a great selection of gluten-free options, which is a huge plus. We didn’t grab coffee this time, but based on the quality of the pastries, I’d bet it’s just as good. The staff was friendly, and the atmosphere was inviting—perfect for a quick stop or a slow indulgent treat. Pro tip: Get a napkin (or three). These are not your average doughnuts—they’re an experience.

Google
I have been to the Nashville location so I was pleasantly surprised to find this in Alpharetta. The pastries were tasty, the donuts were lovely and the coffee was good too..Perfect place for a nice pick me up or sweet treat.

Google
It’s been years since my last visit, so I was thrilled to find out they’ve opened a location at Avalon! I couldn’t resist stopping by to see if the experience still lived up to my fond memories. As always, there were so many options to choose from—it’s hard to go wrong with their selection. While I love trying new flavors, I stuck with my go-to favorite, and it did not disappoint. The donuts were just as delicious as I remembered, fresh and perfectly made. The staff was incredibly pleasant, adding to the overall positive experience. And with the wide variety of donuts available, there’s truly something for everyone. If you haven’t stopped by yet, do yourself a favor and check it out today! You won’t regret it. #ashsaidit

Yelp
Exceptional! That's the first word that came to mind. The shop is adorable, the chocolate sea salt donut was AMAZING, and the service was top notch! We can't wait to go back and try more donuts!

Yelp
We stumbled across this store in Avalon especially because it was one of the few stores open at 9am on Tuesday morning. I was informed that these doughnuts are brought in fresh daily from Nashville (which also justifies the $$ price). It was tasty but not as crunchy as I had expected. Recommend the cinnamon -lemon ice box - strawberry creme. There is plenty of outdoor seating. No WiFi. So hard to do work inside ~~

Yelp
Go here instead of Starbucks! They have delicious coffee and tea drinks and doughnuts. They even have gluten free donuts! The people that work there are friendly and efficient. There's a little seating inside and more outside in the shade. This place is in the middle of Avalon, next to Cafe Intermezzo.

Yelp
Five Daughters Donuts are next level! I have never had such a decadent donut that melts in your mouth! I travel for work and when in the area stay at The Hotel At Avalon and cannot wait to walk down to Five Daughters to try the new seasonal donut flavor! You cannot go wrong with any flavor! I LOVE these 100 layer donuts and wish they would open in Las Vegas!

Yelp
I love the light and airy type of doughnuts so this is right up my alley! I had the blueberry lavender and loved every bite! The inside had a jam filling which was a nice treat! To drink I had an iced chai which was yummy! The drink did take a while but all in all worth the wait for a yummy breakfast!

Yelp
Stumbled upon this doughnut shop while shopping at the Avalon. Employee was friendly and gave me the spill about the shop. I ordered the lemon box, vanilla cream and purist. The doughnuts are a bit pricey but they are good. I think it is worth a visit if you are in the area. This location has plenty of seating outdoors in the Avalon. Small inside but aesthetically pleasing.

Yelp
It was closer to 7 and they were almost sold out of everything. We decided to support and got one of everything. Let me tell you why I rated them 3 stars: Ambiance: beautiful aesthetic and clean. Service: very good and super sweet Food: not my favorite. Felt somewhat stale and the bacon donut was way too sweet for me. Overall it's overhyped. I don't know if I'd come here again. Maybe only for the mini glazed original.

Yelp
They are my favorite donut !! The flavors change monthly but they are a little pricey and you have to park and walk to get to the location. I wish it had its own parking lot. The donut is a mix between a croissant and it's a ton of layers. Very airy and flavors are good!

Yelp
Amazing donuts! It's like a cronut donut with melt in your mouth deliciousness! Don't sleep on Five Daughters Bakery. It is worth every calorie and every penny. The service was friendly and there is plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy yourself.

Yelp
Pricey but different donuts. The server was polite and quick with service. The store was very open with windows allowing sunlight through. The selections all looked great so it was hard to pick from.

Yelp
This is a cute little spot in the posh Avalon shopping area. Five Daughters Bakery is all about elevated doughnuts experience. They offer both regular doughnuts sizes and mini ones. Variety of interesting flavors. Every time I visit I try a new flavor. I like them all. They are all great. Some a bit too sweet for me but there are customers that like exactly that so no points taken off for that. Cleanliness, great customer service, variety of coffee drinks they serve and even accessories they sell is all very cool. I like this place and wish them much success.

Yelp
The service, the donuts, the coffee-- INCREDIBLE. The ladies inside were so kind, patient, and helpful. The donuts were unique, and delicious (I'm from the donut capital of the country and these donuts may have topped any I've had before). Go here!!!

Yelp
It says bakery but it's really a doughnut shop?? I came in hoping it was an actual bakery, but as soon as you walk-in you're met with a display for both normal and mini doughnuts. We weren't going to but it was a new place in the Avalon and thought we'd try. I got the Vanilla buttercream doughnut which was awful. It had no taste and it was just fried bread with tasteless buttercream on top but also an unfortunate surprise in the middle of more tasteless buttercream. At the time, I had a mini chocolate sprinkle doughnut which was just "ok". Nothing wild about it and a bit dry. My partner got an apple fritter, which he mentioned was just thick and also just "ok". We also got a cappuccino and matcha latter both with almond milk. We were not impressed despite it seeming to be a family owned business. The staff was very friendly though and is suspect the owner/manager was there too, who was cool. I'm sad this is the turnout. :(

Yelp
I'm so excited about Five Daughters being at Avalon! This adorable donut shop has lots of options and delicious coffee. The whole place is really cute. I was thrilled to see they have a variety of gluten free donuts and cookies. I got the chocolate frosted one and an iced americano and it was great. The donut was chewy and sweet. The americano was smooth, not bitter at all. The employees seem new to their jobs (understandable, it just opened!) but were helpful with questions I had about the menu.

Yelp
I've loved five daughters since I first moved to the ATL area in 2020. It was always such a hike to get down to their other locations so I was thrilled when I saw this one would be coming to Avalon! The donuts were just as delicious, and staff friendly as ever. There was quite a wait inside as they were a bit backed up and it was very warm in the shop, but we were thanked for our patience several times and truly didn't mind. It's the cutest little shop with the best donuts I've had in my life. I'm already sad we didn't order more than we did! Have to be back soon. P.S. please, please bring back the triple raspberry donut because it is life changing and I miss it dearly.

Yelp
Quaint name. Great location. In the middle of bustling Avalon outdoor shopping mall. Live green wall cover on the outside. Tables for sitting. They sell artisanal donuts and donut holes. Opens at 8. If you are in the mood for early coffee and donut or take a sweet treat with a pause from shopping or a leisurely rendezvous.

Yelp
Learned about Five Daughters while visiting daughter in Nashville last year. Had to make a pit stop in Avalon tonight for dessert. Donuts are next level good! It was a little later and the two gals running the place were pretty much checked out do the day, but that didn't matter the donuts were delectable! Five daughters never disappoints!

Yelp
Love, love, love! If you love French cronuts, you'll love Five Daughters! It's a delicious treat. Warning!!! get there early because they sometimes sell out quickly. So glad they opened in Avalon

Elaine F.

Yelp
Once again, it's only 730 on a Saturday night and the bakery is closed. Every time we are here on a weekend, it's hours before the rest of the.shops are closing, but the teenagers inside the Bakery have the lights off and they are closing up and leaving. this place always closes our before its posted time. First of all, if you can't keep yourself properly stocked when you know that it's a weekend and it's going to be busy then shame on you. Secondly, you still sell items such as drinks and coffee so you could be open to sell those things. I feel like it's just laziness.
google avatar

Christine P.

Yelp
I happened to be at Avalon the weekend of their Grand Opening, and Five Daughters Bakery did not disappoint! But beware: their doughnuts are PRICEY!!! But totally worth it!!!! I ordered a variety of their minis - a mini Purist, a mini Vanilla Cream, and a mini Chocolate something (it was a September flavor). They were all phenomenal! My friend also bought cookies that we split and tried and they were all fantastic as well! I can't wait to go back!!!
google avatar

Misty F.

Yelp
Cute little donut shop! I will definitely be back throughout the year to try more flavors! I got the Blueberry lavender and the Pumpkin spiced donut! Ssooo delicious!
google avatar

Matt L.

Yelp
Fans of Crumbs in the New York Metropolitan area will absolutely love this artisanal, southern, take on fresh, flavorful, friendly bakery items. I had the literal best cronut I've ever had in my life here this morning, and will be going back tomorrow to try another flavor. With over ten locations in the South, I don't know if you're lucky to have one of these close or not...I know if there was one in Westchester County, New York, where I live, I'd have to increase my daily steps goal and run twice as often, but it would be well worth it!

Jigisha D.

Yelp
We used to go to Ponce to eat these donuts. So glad they have opened a branch in Alpharetta. Their gluten free donuts are equally delicious
google avatar

David C.

Yelp
Unfortunately, while pretty, literally all the products include cheap additives like palm shortening to save on costs and extend shelf life, instead of a true artisanal approach using only butter and no extras. Two thumbs down. Environmentally destructive and incredibly unhealthy. Also, the addition takes away from the flavor. The establishment could learn a lot from vastly superior offerings commonly offered at farmer's markets and in greater Europe. Not recommended and never returning.

Caleb B.

Yelp
Simply phenomenal donuts, & Friendly staff! Priced on the higher end for donuts, but definitely worth it, at least once in life!

Grant M.

Yelp
Service here is terrible, donuts are good. Rude, inattentive, poorly trained staff of teens who ignore customers. Came here with my wife and not only was I ignored for a full minute, but then a girl gives me a face and says "we're out of donuts for the day". ... at 4:15 PM ... you close at 8 PM, so what manager is running this show that lets product run out in a busy location like Avalon? Better off going to the Ponce location.

A C.

Yelp
Good service, nice staff. The pastries are WAY too sugary in my opinion. I ordered the vanilla cream pastry and I couldn't taste any flavors other than sugar. I stopped after a two bites.
