The Best Restaurants in Lafayette, Louisiana, aka Cajun Country | Eater New Orleans

"For a farm-to-plate, sober dining experience I choose Five Mile Eatery, Market & Co-op, a proudly queer-owned spot south of downtown led by Chef Kelsey Leger that offers thoughtfully crafted sandwiches, burgers, and salads, an impressive coffee program, and non-alcoholic drinks like the raspberry “refreshmint” made with mint syrup, kombucha, and lime Topo Chico." - Beth D’Addono

Wonderful meal and vibe. Happy to see Yaupon tea on the menu. The burger was delicious and the salad was amazing. You can taste the quality and care in every bite. Highly recommend and look forward to coming back soon. The bathrooms were very clean.

I was visiting from Tennessee and found Five Mile Eatery when searching for something healthy and organic. Five Mile was fantastic. Everything was fresh and made with the highest quality ingredients. I personally had the Nutty by Nature espresso drink, Muffaletta, Soup du jour, and kale/pork/egg grits. I was blown away by the flavors and quality. The atmosphere was also very comfortable and inviting. My friend and I had plenty of time to catch up and enjoy each other’s company. I’m very pleased with Five Mile and would look forward to returning any time!

Such a little gem tucked away from fast paced Lafayette! The food was exceptional, the atmosphere was cozy, and the staff was super friendly and welcoming. I love that it’s women owned and uses organic, recycled materials throughout the venue.

Great place! Clean and healthy food. I had their muffalata sandwich. Bread was fresh, warm and toasty…flavor was amazing! The avocado brownie is a must!! Oh, we also picked up a spice mix, used it for dinner that same night! Fantastic!!

We live in another state now but are in town visiting family. We wanted something different for brunch. Parking is limited. It’s free parking along the street, however a lot of the neighboring businesses have many of the spots reserved. We thankfully didn’t have trouble finding seating, but it quickly filled up. Seating is also a bit tight and a little difficult to maneuver with kids. I’d say we are adventurous eaters and love clean food, however my husband did not like his waffles. He said they were a little lack luster and the raw matcha powder sprinkled on top made them a little dry and too bitter. My sandwich was very good. Our drinks were also good. I’d say they definitely try to be kid friendly with the kid plate and a welcoming environment, however older kids are a little more difficult to manage here. The “baby plate” has seasonal fruit with whole blueberries, so just be mindful of that. I don’t think disposable cups were an option so I was trying to fight my son to not break the glass of milk. The 11 year old with us also had trouble finding something he liked to eat. Prices were a little steeper than we anticipated. We were expecting it to be cheaper because some pictures on the Google review page are old with cheaper listed prices. After we paid, I looked up their actual website and prices are more expensive. I’m sure this is due to inflation and I completely understand. Just be mindful to look at the actual website menu for up to date pricing.

Well cooked chicken, not dry. My husband didn't care much for the sauces on the food. That's more of a preference thing. I liked the ranch for mine. I also love red onions, but if you don't, i would ask for none. I had like a 1/2 of an onions on it. They're thinly sliced, just the way I like them. Coffee was ok. So all in all, chicken was good, Coffee was ok, burger was ok. It was a way healthier option than must places for lunch, so they have that. I would go again if I was nearby , at lunchtime. Im trying to eat healthier, and like I said, the grilled chicken and ranch were good.

Google
- nice place with nice staff. I asked couple of questions about the dishes and sweets and she spent time explaining - ordered five mile breakfast and 2 other dishes to try. All of the selected dishes are very delicious and nice - ordered iced americano and it was delicious as well - the place is clean and well organized Overall, great experience and I highly recommend for people who are traveling around Lafayette

Yelp
The tomatoes are amazing. Had the Caprese toast. Service was friendly and solid. Food was all perfect. It really makes a difference when the owners take time to source quality ingredients. They have put a lot of thought and intention into everything here and it shows. The ambiance is definitely a good, love-everyone vibe.

Yelp
I loved Five Mile Eatery on my weekend trip to Lafayette, I went twice! There aren't a ton of healthy options in Lafayette so I appreciated the options here. The first time I came I got the breakfast plate which was filling and yummy. The second time I got the vegan caesar salad which was huge! Both were very good. I would definitely recommend checking it out!

Yelp
This is an amazing hidden gem..well maybe not hidden, as the place was packed and rightfully so. This place is amazing!! Everything that I had was delicious..the yogurt bowl, the grits, the pastries..all awesome!! The spot is small but cozy. I'll definitely be visiting again.

Yelp
Fantastic food! Love how the selection isn't too large so you're not overwhelmed. I had the bahn mi and gumbo - seriously incredible. The gumbo was bursting with flavor and not greasy like some. The bahn mi was also bursting with flavor. The sandwich was loaded with toppings so it was plenty of food. Can not wait to come back and try breakfast & latte's

Yelp
Super healthy options in a comfy and vibrant space, Five Mile is all about supporting local farmers and offering organic foods. I enjoyed a poppy seed muffin and a hot matcha latte. They both were light, organic and not too sweet.

Yelp
Quaint, clean, friendly & DELICIOUS! There are many vegan options to choose from so I can't wait to return with my vegan son & his girlfriend! I'm not vegan so I had the burger salad and it was so good! The burger appeared to be homemade & cooked perfectly...not dry and juicy! The ingredients were distinct and not just thrown all together like other farm to table restaurants I've had before! Priced right! The unsweetened tea was so good I wanted a jug to take home! I enjoyed looking at all the items for sale. YES, I recommend this place!

Yelp
10/10! I got the breakfast sandwich to go, I subbed the ham for bacon. So so good! Very fresh clean ingredients.

Yelp
Relaxing vibes all the way around. LOVED the FM Waffle, the Vanilla Bean Whipped Cream with the waffles was everything!! IN LOVE with the Bayou Banh Mi, the French baguette was buttery and delicious, the pork was slow cooked to perfection. We loved everything!! And our lattes were perfect.

Yelp
I had the burger salad with cheddar cheese and let me tell ya.. this salad was ownnnn... like a pot of neck bones. Deeeeelicious! The dressing was fabulous. Whole grain mustard cuts the richness of the burger patty and the pickles were wonderful. Spring mix salad with sliced cherry tomatoes. Nice serving size as well. All ingredients were fresh. A co-worker ordered the seedy toast and sourdough with honey butter. It looked wonderful, but wasn't on my low carb diet so I had to pass. Try the lemonade! I highly recommend this eatery.

Yelp
I love the atmosphere, kind and helpful staff, and the unique and inspired menu. I'm not vegan, but this is a very vegan-friendly establishment. The food is lovely and the coffee and tea is exceptional. I came twice in three days when I was briefly in town for work and I wish I could bring this place back home with me. My personal favorites were the seasonal waffle and the Coconut Rose Chai. Don't pass this place up!

Yelp
I could literally eat here everyday! It so hard to find a place like this in Lafayette. Their food is so good and healthy! I just love everything about it. Their iced matcha latte is to die for

Yelp
I just can't say enough good things about this place. Food was top notch fresh and tastes are amazing. We so wish we can find something similar in Austin. We were there for an event n we ate lunch all three days. People were super kind too. Please keep up the Good work and it's rare to find a restaurant like this.

Yelp
This place is wonderful and a local treasure to the community. I eat here almost daily and the staff is so warm and helpful. You can't go wrong ordering anything here. Everything is worth what you're paying and I love the serving sizes because I usually eat the leftovers for dinner!

Yelp
This was the most wonderful surprise. We stopped here on a road trip looking for something healthy. Incredible food is all I can say. I told my husband I want to take another road trip just to come through here again.

Yelp
No geeting;no thank you;spilled coffee at table-no I'm sorry, just threw some napkins on the spillx i had to wipe up; table sticky as hell; way too expensive. Good luck.

Yelp
It is located in one of the small strip business places around the oil center. But the ambience is wonderful. Not a lot of tables. The food is amazing. Locally and organically sourced. The service is incredible. Dripped coffee like your grandmother made it. Veggies garden fresh. Sourdough toast to die for. Amazing place. The principals in the place have an incredible resume and their collaboration here shows. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Love this place! Super cute atmosphere, all local fresh foods, and service was amazing! Our breakfast was delicious - including the coffee. Left with fresh pressed organic juices for the road. Highly recommend!

Yelp
I'm a sucker for healthy food spots. This place is fire and innovative. Love the small retail section. The service was great. I love that they offer local goat milk as a milk option. I got espresso with goat milk, honey and matcha. So good. For the food, the probiotic yogurt - amazing. Also I noticed they have a tinned fish plate. Didn't try but I adore the concept and will try it next time! They also sell small flower arrangements which was extremely convenient as I was going to the hospital next door to visit someone. I can't wait to go back and try other stuff! I hope this place stays around!

Yelp
Went for the first time for lunch on Tuesday. I had the Harvest Salad. I was a little worried about the salad dressing being too sweet but it wasn't. The salad was delicious, ingredients were fresh. I do wish it had been a little bit larger. The ambiance was nice and service was friendly. I will go back!

Yelp
I ordered the Five Mile Breakfast to go. I am hesitant to order take out but the sustainable packaging will keep me coming back. My meal was delicious and the staff were attentive and engaging. It's not a big place but it has charm.

Camille J.

Yelp
This is a cute little place! We had a vanilla latte, the five mile breakfast, and the toast. WOW. The sourdough toast + butter is a must! Really like the veggie additions to the breakfast options. We will be back!

Yelp
Great good & drinks! Artsy and wholistic vibe. I especially loved the plants and decor.

Yelp
Food- DELICIOUS!! Ambiance- FUN & Chill Everything about this place is excellent. Love the concept of farm to table while supporting independent farmers and suppliers. While we were just passing through Lafayette, we will definitely be back again!

Yelp
The best hamburger I have had in a long time. The meat is delicious and cooked perfectly. All the veggies are fresh . I rate it five stars!!!

Stephanie Q.

Yelp
Friendly staff and great ambiance with amazing food. Got the breakfast plate with eggs, sweet potato, greens plus bacon and sourdough toast. Everything tasted homemade and fresh. Only negative comment is the dining area is small so it can get loud during peak hours.

Clean C.

Yelp
Lovely place! Coffee and Chai that is incredible. Made with love. This is not a rushed cup of Starbucks. It's worth the trip to the oil center! As a Vegetarian, finding healthy lunches on the go can be incredibly challenging. I get the seedy toast. The person who said it was not tasty must have lost their sense of taste due to COVID-19. This is eye-rollingly delicious and beautiful! Each time, I take a photo of it. It is a fork-and-knife type of sandwich. It's layer upon layer of tasty goodness. The staff is friendly and kind. The atmosphere is laid back and cozy. It's where you can spend a rainy day eating a yummy sandwich, drinking a delicious latte, and being grateful for the talented people in this establishment who keep Acadiana healthy, one bite at a time.

Yelp
Love a lot of things about this place! The workers were friendly and patient. Very cute decorations and I loved how sustainable the place was. I do have to say I would probably prefer this place as a study spot/ quick bite rather than a place I bring people to for brunch. They have a few limited vegan options but were great about modifications. The food was good, presentation was nice, but I thought the flavors could be worked on a little bit unfortunately. To be fair though, this is a fairly new place so they may still be ironing out a few things. I got the Seedy Toast and while the presentation is excellent, it was a mess to eat and lacking flavor. The avocados were perfectly ripe though, which made it more palatable. I tried the olive zucchini dish and the waffle we ordered as well, and while none of the food was bad, none of the dishes were very good either. The texture and taste of the waffle wasn't very pleasant and the olive zucchini dish was also lacking flavor.
