OK, yall sit down for this one, it's gonna be lengthy.
To start out with, the ambiance is very rustic and had the feel of grandma's log cabin in the woods. Friendly staff, very welcoming and helpful. They use benches as chairs so it gives it a very close, homely, family feel as well.
As we were seated a random guy comes and throws down some bowls of what appeared to be soup. No "hello", no "hey would you like to try this", just slung it down and left. Not a great start but we stayed. The server came and got our drink orders and told us the bowls were complimentary vegetable soup so we tried it. There's a reason it's complimentary- no seasoning.
Our server recommended our meals which is why we ordered them. My husband got the pot roast with mashed potatoes and corn on the cob. I ordered the sugared ham with Mac n Cheese and fried green tomatoes. Food came out quickly and hot!
The sugared ham was sweet and savory, Mac n cheese had a little kick to it, as well as the fried green tomatoes. It was very good and would definitely order again.
The pot roast... we expect it to be fatty but about 60% of the piece my husband got was pure fat so disappointed by this. The 30% that was meat though, melted in your mouth! It was delicious. Only issue beyond that... not enough salt in the meat so a lot of salt was added to his meal. Would he order again? Yes.
If salt is the only hangup, we can live with that. We will try again soon because, on the way out, we saw their cinnamon roll that is served all day and has to be eaten with a steak knife. It peaked our breakfast interest! Also, the fried chicken looked very good, and we are suckers for good fried chicken! If you are wanting a true southern experience of food and comfort, this is a great place to start! Enjoy!
