This restaurant is the main eatery place in Quan Tong Plaza, which has changed a lot and almost become a ghost town post pandemic. The restaurant is probably the last one standing. We were here for a fund raising dinner for the SG mayor election, so the dishes were preset. Their specialities are seafood, so we had many seafood dishes, including the following: - Cold appetizer platter (jelly fish, roast duck, cold pork and cold squid). I really like the pork which has a jello texture from its skin. It’s a popular summer dish in Shanghai and a less greasy choice for pork. - Shrimp and walnut. The flavors were excellent - Tender filet mignon with black pepper and side veggies. Again, great flavors without overpowering soy glaze or sweetness. - Cold chicken: another traditional Shanghai dish where the chicken meat is snappy and juicy with the skin on. Garnished with ginger and onion paste. It could gross some people out with the skin though. - Lobster with ginger and garlic glass noodle. Probably one of the most expensive dishes on the table. Lobster meat is fresh, bouncy, easy to peel off. Glass noodle is soaked with ginger and garlic sauce. Yum! - Bok Choy with garlic cloves: A great light veggie dish to clean the palette and make sure you get your vitamins - Steam bass: Another one of my favorite dishes for the night. Lightly steamed and topped with grrrn onion, ginger and soy. The flesh is extremely tender and fresh. Make sure to try the meat near the bone and fin for the gelatinous texture which is great for your skin :p

As a food enthusiast who appreciates authentic flavors, I recently revisited Five Star Seafood (formerly New Capital Seafood) in San Gabriel, CA. The transformation was remarkable—the chaos of the past replaced by a harmonious dining experience. On a sunny Friday afternoon, my party and I were promptly seated—a rarity during dim sum hours. The traditional dim sum carts still circulate, laden with tempting morsels. We indulged in steamed ribs, tender and flavorful, and the glutinous rice wrapped in lotus leaf—a fragrant delight. But the star of the show? The baked char siu bun—crispy on the outside, soft within, and filled with succulent char siu that left us craving more. The steamed chicken bun was equally impressive, generously packed with juicy chicken. And the beef tripes offered a delightful chewiness. As we sipped tea, a sign caught our attention: lobster at $6.99 per pound. Dinner plans were instantly adjusted—we’ll be back for that lobster feast! Five Star Seafood has earned its five stars. Whether you’re a dim sum aficionado or a curious first-timer, this gem awaits. Gather your friends, raise your teacups, and let the flavors transport you—it’s a culinary adventure worth repeating.

I have come to Five Star Seafood Restaurant many times for dinner or dim sum breakfast. Their food is very good, and the price is reasonable compared to the other restaurants in the area. The restaurant is usually very busy on the weekends for dim sum breakfast, and we can get a table easier at dinner time. The service is matched with most Chinese restaurants in the area. The food is delicious. I’m coming again next time when I’m in Los Angeles.

A place that both my Chinese and Vietnamese friends praise for their dim sum. Make sure you're prepared to wait because this place is usually pretty packed. Enter through the floor entrance and make a left to the elevator and take it to the top floor where the restaurant is located. Service can suck at times so you have to be a little assertive in getting their attention. Also if there's something you want you might want to grab your stamp card and just head to the cart instead of waiting for them to come to you. A must get are their desserts including the custard buns and egg tarts. Would also suggest asking for the chrysanthemum tea.

Take my Wife and Dad here for Dim Sum. We ate pretty well and the total was only $57. It is cheaper the Dim sum in Houston. The restaurant is on the 4th floors. If you ever in San Gabriel area and wants Dim sum, come and try it out.

Typical dim sum spot. Food was good, service was average, and it was kinda loud inside. Would recommend if you're looking to eat some dim sum and not expecting a 5 star experience.

Very good dim sum place. Lots of variety and reasonable price. Just a bit salty for the tofu wrapped meat roll. The view from the restaurant is beautiful.

The service is OK at dinner time but the food is not that ok as a Cantonese restaurant. I came here for dinner. 1. 啫啫雞煲The chicken was obviously not processed properly. The quality of the chicken meat is not good. Usually Chinese chefs would use ginger / green onions/ Chinese Whiskey to remove the unpleasant smell of not fresh chicken. But this restaurant is too lazy to do this. 2. 特價蒜蓉扇貝 $4.99 per piece sounds a good deal, right? But! Once again, I can tell that this is not fresh scallop. The shell of the scallop is just a decoration. The scallop meat might be from a bag of frozen scallops. 3. The only acceptable dish is the pan fried eggplant and Chinese green beans. (I guess this is because no meat in this dish.flavour is good.) Conclusion: obviously, the restaurant is saving its money by using a lower quality of meat.
