OMG! It’s not a fancy chain, it feels so real - like what the neighborhood is at its best - and the chocolates taste SO good. The dark chocolate was classic and delicious, the Gran Marnier was remarkable, but the bourbon flavors blew my mind! LOVE! The man working there was really nice, too.

This place is by my work, very dangerous for my diet lol. My favorite truffles are coconut and peanut butter. They also do mochas that are delicious. Friendly service too

Excellent hot chocolate - maybe some of the best from a shop I’ve had! I’d have to agree with the Reddit post! All hot chocolates come with a free handmade truffle, which are just delicious - I’m partial to the dark chocolate flavor. I like to save mine and eat them at room temp so that the inside is more truffle-y.

Their truffles are so good. Our favorite are the espresso flavored ones. Their hot chocolate and mochas are also amazing! I was so impressed with how good they were! Customer service was great and price was very reasonable. If you take time to read the news articles, you'll be impressed with what the owner has been able to do by himself. Highly recommend.

Omg i love this place so much!! First of all, the man who owns this is one of the sweetest guys, you can tell his heart and soul goes into making the truffles. One time I started chatting with him and he explained it was an art passed down from his family and it really is an art. He has so many unique flavors and puts so much love into it. It may not have the best graphics or flashiest design on the outside, but give it a chance!! You won't be disappointed.

It's such a small shop that you might miss it if you are not actively looking for delicious truffles. I got their strawberry truffles and they tasted like real strawberries! You buy them in take-out containers, and they come out to only about $1 each, depending on the quantity that you buy. I also got a hot chocolate, which was very nice too. This is *the* no-frills truffles store to go to for truffles that you want to pop in your mouth immediately after leaving the store without having to fuss through the bows and tapes of fancy chocolate boxes.

This cute shop is a hole in the wall just off Castro street! We got the hot chocolate & it came with a truffle, which was nice! We chose the dark chocolate truffle which was delicious - very soft, creamy and addicting! I found the hot chocolate okay - it was a bit too sweet for me (I'm more of a dark chocolate fan, so I'd prefer other spots). I would definitely come back for the truffles! They also sell boxes of truffles, which would make a great gift!

This review is for the iced chocolate milk only. Service was good. Prices are reasonable. I found the iced chocolate drink to be very powdery. I actually felt like i had something stuck in my throat while drinking it. Also i didn't not find it to be chocolatey enough. I would definitely go with dandelion next time. We did get a free truffle and that was very good. No seating, strictly takeout.

Still my favorite chocolate truffles! In this whole in the wall place that has nowhere to sit and drink your coffee you'll find amazing chocolate truffles. You want boozy chocolate? They have it. You want regular flavors like strawberry and caramel? They have that too. Came here before a Yelp event and ended up eating and ordering 10 truffles. Ate them like potato chips. They sell coffee amd beverages here too in case you get thirsty. And yes, you can get a huge chocolate box to go for parties. One of the best stores in the Bay Area!

BEST HOT CHOCOLATE IVE EVER HAD!!! Came with a free delicious truffle. There is huge variety of flavors of truffles and amounts you can buy. Great selection of coffee drinks. Me and my boyfriend passed by on a rainy day and decided to stop in, and now we found our new favorite place to get a hot coco. Definitely worth a visit if you are a chocolate lover. The person working was very nice.

Five stars is right! We dropped in because my daughter wanted a coffee but when I saw the truffles I HAD to get some. I must say, they were the best dang truffles I have had. The Raspberry were particularly delicious. We did get a large box and chose multiple different flavors which all went in the same box. Honestly, since they all look exactly alike, I recommend seeing if they can put them in separate smaller boxes or something. Grabbing one to eat was always a surprise flavor. Quality truffles and the coffee was particularly good also.

These truffles are AMAZING!!! These are so good that I got a craving for them while I was cooking at home, left my house to go get some, and forgot my food on the stove lol. Although the house was filled with smoke, everything is okay, if not better, for now I had the best truffles and hot chocolate in San Francisco instead of boxed pasta.

BIPOC-owned homemade truffle spot in the Castro - I was on the hunt for gorgeous chocolates for my adopted mom here in San Francisco and decided to give Five Star Truffles a visit. I was greeted with a smile by Santo when I arrived and was impressed by the variety of Truffles. I ended up going with a variety of the non-liquor kind and got a Grand Marnier one for me for the road. The box is super cute and, honestly, you will not find a better price and value for chocolates here in the city. Give them a try!

Go support this local business. Santos Euan has been running the solo show for 17+ years!! If that's not dedication I don't know what it is. His truffles are very tasty. Maybe not the same type as you expect from a high end French shop but it's still pretty decent. The truffle deserves 4 starts and his dedication brings it up to 5 stars. You can also order online and have it shipped to you or your loved ones.

Firs the things I like. They have a nice selection of truffles, they are reasonably priced (actually, pretty cheap for truffles), and the person who helped us was very nice. But as far as the truffles, they were just okay. "Three Star Truffle Co" would be a better name IMHO. The flavor of the chocolate was too mild for me (I prefer darker chocolates), and the truffle I tasted that was flavored (bourbon) was way too mild--and I like my chocolates lightly flavored (if at all). But people look for different things when it comes to chocolate, so this is worth a stop if you have a hankering.

A cute corner store near the heart of Castro! I got an iced latte but also got a free chocolate thrown in. Chocolate was a 9/10, not too sweet and good texture, almost melts in your mouth but not gooey. The coffee was okay, not the best but good if you need a pick-me-up. The cashier was nice and attentive.

Just discovered this hidden gem in my neighborhood. Got the smallest box with 10 truffles and a hot chocolate which comes with a free truffle. The hot chocolate was yummy and nice for the cold SF day. For my free truffle I got the dark chocolate which they said is a best seller. For the flavors in the box I got peanut butter, caramel sea salt and hazelnut. All were delicious, though I think my favorite one was the caramel. Will definitely be back!

This place is wonderful! These truffles melt in your mouth. Dangerously good. All the flavors are tasty but I especially like the spicy bite in the Mexican chocolate truffle.

These truffles are like little drops of heaven. I made moaning sounds every bite I took and I don't even care if it was dramatic. Worth every penny.

Considering how much we enjoy strolling the Castro, Jamie W. and I rarely find ourselves walking on 18th Street west of Castro Street. No particular reason. Now why would we pass up an opportunity like that? I wanted a little caffeine after dinner, so the idea of buying a $2.25 cup of coffee seemed reasonable to me for a mouthful of sweetness (photo: http://bit.ly/2kBvrD4). Oh yes, that was certainly a pop of goodness well worth the mediocre, overheated cup of coffee I bought. Should I come back for the $33 40-piece gift box or the $45 60-piece gift box? Such decisions should be made when I'm standing on a weight scale, so I remember how ridiculous that question is. TRUFFLE - 4 stars...lovely mouthful there though the coffee needs to be thrown out AMBIANCE - 3 stars...just a little shop, nothing more SERVICE - 3 stars...oh so quiet TOTAL - 4 stars...another one won't kill me, right?

I ordered here from online here earlier today. The process was extremely smooth. I ordered 16 hazelnut, 8 black and white, 8 caramel, and 8 dark chocolate. It was 36 dollars for the 40 truffles, which comes out to 90 cents each truffle. What a steal! There was a confirmation email sent to my email, and the order was fulfilled through GrubHub for delivery. It was an estimated 30-40 minutes for delivery, which was extremely accurate. That's faster than if I were to go out to their store, find parking, go inside and order, then go home! I indicated on the delivery notes, that I wouldn't be home and to just drop off the delivery on the porch. A text message was sent to me indicating that the delivery was dropped off. That gave me a sense of reassurance. When I got home, I opened up the packaging, to see the different flavors were put in separate bags and labeled. I put them onto a little tray for the guests when they arrived. The dark chocolate and hazelnut pieces were distinguishable because the nuts used for dark chocolate had a more toasted look. However, I couldn't tell the difference between the black and white pieces with the caramel pieces. Both of those flavors were coated with cocoa powder on the outside. Not a big deal since my guests have no allergies to anything. The only downside are that you can tell these truffles are definitely handmade. Normally, that would be a good thing! But these were a little on the not pretty side as they were rolled in non-uniform circles. It seemed like they didn't put that much effort in making them look pretty. They still tasted delicious. I would definitely come back here in person when I have more time.

Stopped by for a coffee and had to get truffles when I walked inside and saw the selection. The iced mocha was delicious and made with such care by the owner (who is also the only employee at this shop). And each coffee order comes with a free truffle sample! Incredible service and incredible shop. Support this place!

I got the Five Star hot chocolate and hazelnut liquor truffle! The hot chocolate was decent but honestly, not much home to write about. Definitely better than a Swiss Miss but, for the price, not proportionately in the range of a Dandelion chocolate. The hazelnut liquor truffle was pretty damn good for just a dollar, though!! Crunchy, nutty veneer that encapsulates a complex boozy filling.

The truffles are so rich and delicious. Each flavor is unique and tastes like exactly what it is supposed to taste like. I think the pricing is good too, and you get a free sample when you buy a box. I love 5 Star Truffles! (Also the workers are really nice!).

I'm not a big truffle fan so I bought these for the wife. The price is really good for truffles and I love the smaller size. I did have one and it's definitely rich and delicious. I would definitely return if I am in the mood for something sweet. I didn't try any of their drinks.

Bring it on XOX!!! Five stars to Five Star Truffles. As a chocolate fan, I secretly wish that XOX Truffles (http://www.yelp.com/biz/qkHlhvv6DrCkvY54ogcPiA) engages in a price war with Five Star Truffles to steadily drop their prices to $0.10 a piece. From the outside, Five Star does not look as good as XOX, but when I saw the Truffles in the white bowls, I had to ask the owner why it looked so much like XOX Truffles. It turns out that he made truffles at XOX for 7 years before opening his own store (with partners) in fall of 2006 at this Divisadero location. NO WONDER THESE TRUFFLES LOOK AND TASTE JUST LIKE ONES AT XOX!!! I gave XOX 4 Stars - 5 Stars for taste, but minus one star for their price. I must give five stars to Five Star Truffles for their per piece cost being $0.25 cheaper. XOX - $0.75 per piece (as of 10/08/2006) Five Star - $0.50 per piece (as of 12/10/2006)

I've passed this place everyday for 3 years on my way to work and never tried it. So happy I did today! What a treat! Small truffles that pack a lot of flavor! I adore the fact that they are really rich and dark truffles, not sickeningly sweet. Perfect little morsels. The peanut butter one has a fantastic after taste! My favorite!

Wow! INCREDIBLE!! So delicious! I tried to get a good variety of truffles and they were ALL AMAZING! I also grabbed a Five Star mocha and I WAS IN LOVE! Great service too, the gentleman was very polite and friendly. Will most definitely be back!

I'm a recent transplant from New York. I don't have a dog in the fight, just trying to find good truffles in San Francisco. Apparently the chef here is an alum of XOX. We tried XOX, loved it, but Castro is closer to us, so decided to try them. Hard to believe he's an alum because: a) the truffles at Five Star are *significantly* sweeter (I actually couldn't finish the hazelnut) b) not nearly as smooth c) no complexity to the ganache Perhaps more suited for an American palate, XOX is truly French. So when there is someone else who does the same thing, but better, I'd say thanks but no thanks. XOX is in North Beach. I am yet to find any other good ones in the city. I tried the bon bons at Jade and Christopher Elbo. Jade doesn't know chocolate at all, plus shells are way too thick. Elbo does mostly milk, and I only do dark. I found a fantastic one in Calistoga, though: Earth & Sky. Reccomendations? Leave 'em here!

$2.50 for coffee with soymilk (a rare steal in SF) and the most delicious truffle I've ever had holy crap. You get a free truffle with any drink. I got the earl grey and immediately after taking a bite my taste buds were blanketed in rich creamy earl grey-y heaven. Huge variety of truffle flavors, definitely coming back.

The truffles and hot chocolate here are to die for. The Earl Grey flavor is my favorite.

Come here if you want something unique from SF. The most amazing story has lead to the most amazing truffles. A man foreign to this company comes here to try and find work and ends up finding his passion through creative truffles. He is a one man show that remembers people and serves coffee with a smile and his truffles with anticipation. He knows you're going to like them. He waits for you to try them and then...both patron and owner smile haha you both know you're a life long customer now.

Who would have thunk that a tiny cocoa covered truffle ball could produce the huge taste explosion that went down.... ALL inside my mouth. (And yes this may sound Porn-ish, but eating truffles is serious business!) The strawberry truffles here, are heavenly. Tiny (I stress the tiny) chocolate smooth delicacies, which your taste-buds will thank you for, well after first introduction. I also had their hot chocolate with skim milk and it was one of the best hot chocolates I've had in the city. Must be some of that truffle voodoo. A pretty bare interior, but it's quiet and the sweet smell of chocolate wafts throughout the store, so what atmosphere they lack, they make up with chocolate-y aromas.

This is just down the street from my apartment, and the question I keep asking myself is 'Why haven't I discovered this sooner!?' By far, this is a hidden treasure on Divisadero. It's never super crowded when I'm there, but know there are many fans of Five Star. Not only do they have wonderful truffles, but the coffee and hot chocolate are stellar. The owner, (who is always making the truffles when I'm there) is always super friendly and helpful, and offers free samples. Great variety of truffles, but my favorites are the caramel, Earl Grey, and Kahlua. These lil' bites of heaven are so decadent, but worth every single bite. Cheap and delectable truffles, awesome service with the friendliest owner----- what are you waiting for? PS There's free wi-fi!

There's a nifty trick here - if you order a specialty drink, they give you a free truffle. This really rules. The prices are inexpensive, especially if you go in for a drink and a little bag of treats. These are handmade truffles, displayed attractively in large mixing bowls, and I dare you to keep from thinking about how badly you want to just bring one of those bowls home and put your face in it. No? That's only me? Dang. I love the fruit-flavor-infused truffles like orange, lemon, and raspberry. But let's not even pretend that the Earl Grey truffles aren't the bomb - mmmmm, bergamot goodness. They're each very tiny, like the size of a little fresh mozzarella ball, and most are dusted with cocoa powder. Their small size has let me blaze a trail through more truffle varieties than I ever could with regular-sized chocolates at other specialty sweet shops. Helpful tip: their receipt reads "Start Truffles," so if you try to find the place again via their name, like I did, you will be woefully disappointed! It's Five Star Truffles. I don't know why the receipt prints this different name. A truffle by any other name still tastes as sweet, though, so go here and nom your little heart out.

Another reviewer said that Santos, the owner of 5 Star Truffles, is an "alum" of XOX Truffles. Sure, if by "alum" you mean someone who worked at XOX just long enough to be trusted to make some of the truffles, then quit and opened a store using XOX's recipes, counter layout, boxes, everything. Except, he couldn't even get that right, everything is too sweet and made with inferior ingredients. Whenever he tries to invent a new flavor it tastes like a ground up Pop-Tart. The owner of XOX has continued to invent flavors since this guy ripped off his recipes, but Five Star Truffles is stuck back in time, with poor imitations of XOX circa 2006, not having been able to copy their many innovations. If you want delicious truffles, go to XOX in North Beach. If you want to support a ripoff artist and pay high prices to get poor imitations of XOX, then by all means, stop in at Five Star Truffles.

I practically live across the street from this place, and decided to walk in one evening as they were closing. The owners were wonderful... gave me a sample of nearly all of their 20 flavors of hand made truffles. I nearly had a chocolate overdose. Been a fan since. I don't eat the truffles myself, but I do default to 5 Star for all my truffle needs. For example, last month when Wendy was having a crappy week, she got a batch shipped to her. She loved it despite the fact that they'd melted into a glob. That's how good it is.

Why haven't I gone here, is the question you should be asking yourself , if you are second guessing this place at all. I work in the neighborhood and have always passed by this place on my nightly walks on my break and said one day I will ill come in. Today was that day! A cold rainy afternoon, I arrived early for work and said today is the day. This is a chocolate lover's dream. So many varieties of truffly goodness. Hot Chocolate: Divine. Amazing to name a few words, the owner Santos uses Real Chocolate, heated up some milk, foamed it up pouring it over my chocolate and then whisked it together and top with whip cream. It was so rich . Also came with a free truffle of my choice, got hazelnut and was so yummy So yummy in fact , I brought variety of 40 to bring to work for my co-workers and have eaten 5 already , shhh I will be back soon

BEST TRUFFLES EVER my family buys a box of 100 or more every christmas eve(even when they were on divisadero) and they are all gone by the day after christmas...mind you, this is a family of 4, we are not home for christmas dinner, and this is ontop of all of the other christmas goodies they are rich, addicting, heavenly, and will send you into a chocolate coma. they are expensive, but worth it. they come in great gift boxes and they always let you sample a few when you are choosing. fave flavors: dark choco espresso coconut raspberry(i think...) earl grey warning: some of them are REALLY spicy..i think its kahlua and cayenne pepper

The 4 of us landed here for an sweet-attack. This place is one of Yelp's favorite and indeed it shows with the variety of truffles this place carries. This place carries 20 different kinds of truffles including soy and vegan ones, for all you vegans out there. Matt bought 2 orders of 1/4 of a lb of the popular claim-to-fame truffles, which had Hazelnut, Raspberry, Coconut and yummy Caramel; one of the orders for us to share immediately and to whoof down after our lunch. Our order had a total of 24 pieces each in the 1/4 lb box that cost $9.00. What a SWEET way in ending our meal!

Now don't let the small shop fool you. I know most chocolatier shops are pretty fancy, modern cute, etc. but this shop is truly one of a kind that I have ever been to in the Bay Area. These truffles are made entirely from scratch as I've walked in when the owner was mixing up the caramel *mouth watering*. The owner is a nice man who truly enjoys making fresh batches of chocolates each and everyday. No trans fat, hydrogenated oils or anything like Other big chocolate companies use to make their chocolate. You can't get any fresher than this. Sorry coco Bella and Godiva but these chocolates are fresher than yours. If you want to enjoy some authentic handmade chocolates made daily you have to make a stop here when in San Francisco. This place is right around the corner from Castro street and across from Terra Mia. If you want great tasting chocolates at a great price for San Francisco standards you have to stop by five star truffles and pick up some truffles and a hot chocolate while your at it.

Delicious melt-in-your-mouth truffles made by an incredibly hard-working man. They're the perfect pick-me-up to help you walk up the hill, and a box makes a great host(ess) gift. The hot chocolate is also excellent. I haven't tried the other items.

A year and a half later - and if I could add an another star, I would! Five Star Truffles has really grown up: the little hole-in-the-wall shop now boasts dark red and brown walls, the hand written signs were exchanged for a big truffle flavor & coffee board, colorful art work lines the walls and the owner proudly displays his 100 inspection scores for two years running - quite the face lift! I usually venture in just for a quick afternoon-coffee-fix-with-truffle ($1.60!) - but most of the time, I'll leave with one of the cute take-out boxes, filled with 20 (or sometimes 40) of Five Star Truffles' yummy creations. New flavors pop up all the time - though I am still waiting for the savory side to take hold: salted caramel, aztec chili - anyone? And just a quick note to all the competitors' supporters posting here ... what's so unique about these chocolate truffles? Just google "chocolate truffles" and hundres of images of truffles looking just like these will pop up - so enough of the extortion/conspiracy theory. (*many of my former assistants have moved on to enter my field of business - it's the evolution of supply and demand ...)

So....here's the thing. I got a groupon for 2 free truffles at this place, and it is right on my way to yoga. I don't wanna be miss negative, but these truffles are small, I mean TEEEENY tiny. Fine for free, tasty even, but I would never buy them. Sorry.

The truffles here are so good! Occasionally I like to spoil myself with a good treat and these were definitely on point. Five Star Truffles Co. is a small shop with a pretty good variety of different truffle flavors. When I think of truffles I usually imagine large, non-bite sized ones, which sometimes can be a little overwhelming to eat at once. These were small, bite sized, and full of flavor! I stopped by last week and got 6 different flavors: white chocolate, hazelnut, dark chocolate, earl grey, banana and caramel. I ate a couple with some still left in my refrigerator for this week :) They also have small boxes that would make awesome gifts for people on special occasions or holidays. I believe the owner is a one man team- he's awesome! I will definitely be back!

I LOVE these chocolates. All the flavors are fun and delicious. I prefer the ones without nuts but try them all! There is a crunchy super thin layer. They look ugly but are truly wonderful

Not fancy, just fantastic. I don't write a lot of reviews - only when I think a place is really deserving. Five Star Truffles certainly is. I was doing a little job across the street and saw the sign and decided I needed a cup of coffee. Ended up with coffee and chocolate, then more chocolate. Everything was delicious and made perfectly. This place is exactly the kind of place you would describe as a hole in the wall, and be reluctant to tell anyone else about because you would be afraid it would be discovered. The owner is super friendly, thoughtful and considerate, and as far as I can tell does EVERYTHING himself. He's the kind of guy who recognizes you when you come back, and remembers you. Make sure to chat with him for a minute and you will see.... If I lived nearby I would certainly be back frequently. I did end up getting twenty truffles for my partner -- who kindly shared some of them with me. They did not last very long though. Think I will need to go back, darn it.

I don't know about all the five-start reviews, maybe the flavor is great. But I had horrible experience ordering online and over the phone. The website says offer delivery, but not intuitive. I called and was told the gift boxes showed online were not available and that they don't do delivery. The person told me to use some delivery app, he didn't speak English well - that's fine but not patient as well. He repeatedly said "I'm busy" when I was asking how to choose flavors, then he just hanged up. It was quite a bummer.

Be careful when ordering online. First their website is not intuitive. I never received an order confirmation email. I had to keep emailing them to find out what happed to my order. They are hard to reach and the customer service is null. When they make a mistake with your order instead of being apologetic and compensative they refer you to their shipping disclosure.
