The Hottest Restaurants in Sacramento Right Now, Winter 2020

"An updated version of the classic Hong Kong Canto-Western tea house, this well-lit restaurant has ping pong paddle menus and endless green booths. Stop in with friends for a snack of curry fish balls; thick French toast topped with a condensed milk drizzle; or one of the baked rice platters, which might feature a pork chop covered in spicy black-pepper gravy and baked until irresistible. Definitely try the teppan sliced steak — a sizzling platter of rice, thinly sliced beef, and corn that you mix and cook at the table. Luckily, you’re already in a booth. Perfect for the nap you’re going to need afterwards." - Illyanna Maisonet

The Flame Cafe is a Hong Kong-style restaurant next to or attached to the 99 Ranch Market. The food is pretty good, and the service is fast. They are usually very busy on the weekends, especially during the lunch hour. I'll expect to wait for a table if I go there after noon. The dining room is clean, and the parking lot is busy due to the 99 Ranch Market sharing the same parking lot.

Google
Came here for a lunch date with the Wife. She ordered the Sizzling Beef plate and I the Beef Brisket w Rice. I also ordered the Passionfruit Soda. The food was well prepared and tasted good. The beef was really tasty. Lots of things on the menu to come back and try.

Google
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! I’ve gotten ordered 7 items off the menu and all were delicious. We got the laksa noodles, beef homemade noodle soup, fried pork curry with rice and veg, seafood cheeses bake. Highly recommend any of these items. The lemons tea is also great and the Hing king Mille and condense milk toast is SOOOO YUMMY!!!! NARM NARM NARM!!

Google
I tried the Baked Pork Chop in Tomato Sauce. A classic HK-style food! It served over fried rice, the pork chop was tender, and the tomato sauce was rich, tangy. Also had the Chicken Steak Curry. The curry was on the watery side, but it tastes like HK-style curry. Light, aromatic, and perfect with rice. Love the HK style food

Google
Came here with a group of 3 and Good: - Loved the uniqueness of the baked dishes, I got a tom yum spaghetti and the texture was great of the noodles and the seafood - The french toast was so tasty too! Not too sweet but the perfect amount of flakiness - The popcorn chicken was very tender and crunchy - The cucumber was refreshing! - Nice to catch up with people, very simple place and good vibes - Super cute bear that you can add to any drink! Not just the ones with it in it Bad: - Super long wait time, about 30 min for a group of 6 and also 30 min to get our food after ordering Overall would come here again for the super tasty asian food!

Google
Amazing Hong Kong style Cafe!!! I really like their sizzling steak they had as well as the baked spaghetti they also have! Service was quick and easy as well as ordering. I really like the ambiance with the different colors and even the wood paneling as well as their signature dog hanging on the wall! They also have Thai milk, tea and Hong Kong style milk tea with very special shaped ice in the form of a bear and dog!

Google
Food was great. Service was fantastic. Will come back to try other dishes. The only problem was the chopped chicken has too many cracked bones that kept jabbing our mouths. Was not nice when the cracked bones hit my teeth.

Yelp
Noodle soups are delicious. The Hong Kong milk tea really brings me back. Great atmosphere, it's a cute cafe with lots of dog and cat toys! Highly recommend!

Yelp
This restaurant is for those that enjoy simple yet savory dishes. I can't speak on whether this Hong Kong style cafe serves authentic food or not, but what I can say is that I enjoyed every last bite. Three cup sauce chicken pot - Favorite out of the three items I tried. It's one of those dishes that you know comes packed with flavor just by looking at it. I recommend ordering some rice as well to soak up some of the savoriness. 5/5 Beef brisket and rice - Decent choice. Good texture, well seasoned. It's lathered in sauce, so not for those wanting something on the drier side. 4/5 Ice cream toast - A sweet treat that will satisfy most people. It admittedly looks quite funky, but the crispy toast compliments the ice cream well. 5/5

Yelp
I went here with my family, hoping to reminisce our time and vacation in hong kong. This place did not disappoint! My parents are extremely picky and have high standards for quality of food, and they really enjoyed this place! We got the popcorn chicken, beef brisket noodle soup, baked pork chop in tomato sauce, teppan sliced beef rice, tomyum seafood noodle soup and the chicken steak curry. The porportions are pretty big, and prices were reasonable and affordable. I do recommend their beef brisket soup and the tomyum seafood noodle soup, they was very flavorful, and cooked well. The baked pork chop in tomato sauce w/ rice was good as well, although I wish they added more cheese and I should of got spaghetti instead. The teppan beef was not bad, I feel like they sauces could of been better, as it just tasted like soy sauce and that's it. The curry dish was pretty good as well, although we did not anticipate it being so spicy. If you love spicy food, then you'll like this dish. Popcorn chicken was standard, pretty good to snack on, but didn't stand out to me compared to the ones from t4. Service was standard, it was nice that the staff were all multilingual and my family were able to converse with them in english, cantonese and mandarin. Ambiance is casual. The restaurant might be a bit difficult to locate but it is convenient that it is located right next to 99 ranch, and its the perfect place to eat after getting groceries!

Yelp
This place is located right in front of 99 Ranch. The vibe is nice. They have cool decor like bear bricks. I only tried their Baked Seafood with rice and it was amazing! It had fish, calamari, and shrimp in it. Everything had the perfect mix and texture. Pro tip: ask for hot sauce and it takes it to the next level. The food came out quick and it was served fresh and hot! Service was great also. It filled me up but I wanted to keep eating because it was so good. I will definitely come back to try other items. If you've never been to Hong Kong, eating here will give you a glimpse of their amazing food. It's that authentic.

Yelp
好食,抵食 Pork chop in tomato sauce was one of my fav take out items from 大家樂 when i was at school. The pork chop here brought back so many fond memories. We ordered the seafood in cheese cream sauce as well, and some garlic chicken wings. I think both baked rice items are spot on and quite a bargain. The chicken wings are also pretty good, relatively less good value. The service was perfect, and the place is cleaner and more spacious than a typical HK 茶餐廳

Yelp
Came here on a pleasant Sunday afternoon and was seated right away--no wait at all. There were four of us, but since we weren't too hungry, we decided to share two entrées and one appetizer: the curry fishballs, beef sizzling plate, and creamy seafood baked pasta. The sizzling plate was nicely presented and mixed tableside by the server, though I didn't try it myself since I don't eat red meat. The curry fishballs arrived hot and flavorful--not overly salty, but nothing particularly standout either. My favorite by far was the baked seafood pasta. The seafood tasted fresh (which I'd expect given they're attached to an Asian grocery store!) and the cream-to-pasta ratio was spot on. I also appreciated that none of the dishes were overly salty. The interior felt clean and modern. While the restaurant is on the smaller side, it still managed to feel cozy without feeling cramped. Overall, I'd definitely return to try more of their dishes! :)

Yelp
Came here for lunch and got the Thai tea with dog! It's so cute! But somehow it's not a dog but a bear!! Got the beef brisket noodle and chicken steak teppan . they sizzle in front of you which did splash on us a little. So sit further away! The beef brisket was not as tender as I'd like. The noodle was a bit too soggy. The chicken steak teppan was good. Huge bowl of rice. If you should your yelp, you get a lemon ice tea and it came with the dog!! The price is very affordable compared to the Bay Area. Will definitely come back to try other things if in the area.

Yelp
Been coming here since they opened, I don't frequent regularly but probably a few times a year. I love their big pot of chicken when I come in a big group. They're one of the few spots who do the brisket noodle soup right in Sacramento. The brisket is always tender, flavorful and my kids enjoy it too. I also like the steak pepper skillet with corn and rice. Could use more beef but overall, I enjoy the taste. I also love their Hong Kong milk tea, not too sweet. We've tried a bunch of other dishes and they're pretty good. I'd say their floors could be a little cleaner but decent overall. Service could be slow and you'll have to flag down the servers, especially when busy.

Yelp
If you're in the mood for Hong Kong style comfort food, The Flame Cafe has you covered! Located in a large plaza with other shops, parking is plentiful. Walk towards 99 ranch market as if you're going inside, and you'll see the front door for the Flame Cafe. The place itself is small offering about 12 tables. Arriving around 11:40 AM on a Saturday there was no wait, but as we were leaving, there was a waitlist starting to form. We ordered the Hong Kong style milk tea with bear, Hong Kong style French toast, garlic chicken wings, and baked tomato pork chop. All of these items are recommended and popular. The Hong Kong style milk tea is adorable and the black tea is strong. It's creamy, sweet, but not overly sweet. Since we didn't ask about any sweetness adjustments, I was anticipating it to be quite sweet but was surprised it wasn't THAT sweet. As a person who loves their boba at 30% sweetness, this felt more of a 50-60% sweetness level. They add a lot of ice so there is not too much of the drink itself. The Hong Kong style French toast was a treat. Perfect eggy batter with a light crisp and fluffy bread interior. A dab of butter and syrup and its chefs kiss. The baked spaghetti tomato pork chop has a sweeter tomato sauce. The cheese becomes ooey gooey and the noodles had a great al dente texture. Some of the pork pieces were on the tougher/fattier side, but overall a good comfort dish. The garlic chicken wings had good flavor, were tender and moist inside, and a decent crisp on the outside. The batter is light. Service was quick and efficient. Food came out pretty fast and we were in and out in under 45 minutes. I don't get to see Hong Kong style cafes often so this was a treat to dine here. 3 items + a drink was $42 before tip. Would recommend to anyone looking for Hong Kong style comfort food!

Yelp
We were super hungry before grocery shopping at 99 ranch. We found this hidden gem. It's our first time here, ambience is good. Relaxing typical Chinese restaurant. Ordered beef Teppan it was flavorful on sweet side sauce with rice 4/5, Singapore laksa was not bad. It was okay not the authentic flavor 3/5. The kids love the French toast with condensed milk and Thai tea with cute bear ice. 5/5, calamari was taste okay little salty 3/5. Service was good they were attentive. Thank you.

Yelp
I always enjoy HK Cafe and this one didn't disappoint. It is really hard to find these types of cafes in this area and this one happened to be right outside of a Ranch 99. We had to try it. Love the little bear in the drink. Love their food. Will go back when I am in that area.
google avatar

Yelp
Came back the second time to try out the beef noodles and it doesn't disappoint! Very flavorful and the noodles do a wonderful job soaking up the broth. Ice lemon tea is a refreshing touch in this hot weather. Will come back again to try more dishes next time!

Yelp
Located next to Ranch99 so we stopped for lunch. It was very busy but wait was fairly quick. We ordered the Signature Spicy Mala Chicken Pot and the Braised Pork with Rice. We did a review and got the cute iced tea (it was kind of sweet for me). The Braised Pork has some flavors but unfortunately it was mainly a rice dish. The ratio is too much rice. The chicken pot was pretty good. I love the Sichuan spice in it. Well i love a anything spicy so this checks the box for me. It was super oily though. There was also a lot of small and pokey bones so BE CAREFUL! Would try other dishes/drinks again!

Yelp
Been craving HK comfort food and so glad we found this place by accident! They have the classic HK menu items including my fav pork chop baked rice with tomato sauce, lemon ice tea, beef chow fun. Staff was friendly and accommodating to us bringing a chunky stroller. So convenient too when we do our grocery runs at 99 Ranch after! Looking forward to trying other items from their menu next time!

Yelp
For my second time here (6/23/2025), I ordered the #381 Teppan Sliced Beef Rice. Highly recommend. I also ordered #129 Thai Tea w/ Dog. It's good, just a lot of ice to keep the dog afloat hahah. I've been here once before and had also got a bear drink again, for the cuteness--though I wish it'd have more drink and less ice.

Yelp
Flame Cafe is located in the 99 Ranch shopping center right in front of Ranch 99. Prices are reasonable and service is fast and efficient. The interior is nicely decorated. Each dish has a number for easy ordering. I ordered the 704, braised pork over rice. If you leave a Yelp review you get a complimentary lemon tea. Come try Flame Cafe.

Yelp
This place was really good. They made the food in less than 5 minutes and it takes very fresh. The servers were nice and friendly. The portions and the size was also very reasonable. There were many items on the menu but don't be afraid to ask them for suggestions. We went an hour before they closed and they were still able to accommodate us and we had no issues. Overall, 10/10 and we would definitely go back!

Yelp
Came in lunchtime saturday and got seated immediately. upon looking at the menu i knew the teppan steaks would be amazing and i was not disappointed. ordered both the regular and the set and they are quite different(ones beef slices and the other is a steak). both have a amazing flavor. also tried the beef noodle soup and the texture of the beef was super tender. we also ordered a red bean drink with a dog. the dogs cute but also sweetens the drink. is a fun order of you're feeling something more high key in a drink. overall a fabulous spot and i'll definitely be returning!

Yelp
My first time trying the Flame cafe. Was excited to try it since my family has been there without me. The server was very nice and attentive. The restaurant is in front of 99 Ranch on Florin road, literally connected to 99 ranch. It was clean with a simple L shape layout. Seems to be family owned. At least that was my impression. We ordred the baked black pepper chicken, with rice. You have an option to get it with rice or with spaghetti noodles. Flavor was on point! Reminds me of the days of one of my favorite HK style restaurants in Sacramento, Leegacy. They are no longer around, but this place is really good as well. For our appetizer we opted for the fried tofu. It was really delicious, especially with the popcorn chicked batter! Yum We also ordered the baked pork chop with spaghetti! One of our favorite dishes. Was cooked perfectly with a sweet red tomato sauce. I'm sure glad we came, and I cannot wait to come back next time! If you are in the Sacramento area, do not hesitate to try Flame cafe! Cheers!!
google avatar

Jenny P.

Yelp
Very good, bigger portions than I thought! The baked seafood and takoyaki were very good. I prefered the baked seafood more. I had it was spaghetti. The steak was okay
google avatar

Gloria N.

Yelp
First time here! Super busy on a Saturday afternoon so be prepared for at least a 30 minute wait. Got a few things to try: #3 signature spicy mala chicken pot, comes with steamed rice - good, but wish it was spicier #102 milk tea with a bear #401 baked pork chop in tomato sauce with spaghetti - pork had great flavor and was not dry, but tomato sauce was a little too sweet for my liking #402 baked prawn with tom yum cream sauce with spaghetti - unique dish that I've never had before, tom yum flavor was subtle, my favorite from today I will be back to try other dishes!

Yelp
Yum!!! Liked their HK style french toast and their teppan sliced beef rice. Fast service!
google avatar

Dawn C.

Yelp
Overall, good experience 4.0 stars. I had a mixed feeling in terms of my three separate visits to this restaurant. Overall, tastes good 4.3 stars. Their higher price items from the Special Section, Steaks on ion skillet were presentable, excellent, and entertaining. While the Pork Chop Curry with Rice, aesthetically not pleased because of how "runny" the curry sauce was, yet surprisingly delicious. They added a dollop of condense milk to our HK Style hot milkteas when we requesed for it.
google avatar

Jamie S.

Yelp
Worth the try: baked rice/spaghetti Tip: You can ask to substitute the sauce for your baked rice or spaghetti. Baked Pork Chop: Baked pork chop on top of your choice of rice or spaghetti with sauce. Typically served with tomato sauce, but I asked to sub for cheese cream sauce. Large portion. A bit on the salty side, but I think that's the point of this classic comfort dish. Note that this takes a while to come out since they do have to bake it. Milk Tea w/ Bear: Classic Hong Kong Milk Tea. I asked for mine with no sugar so obviously it tastes different, but I prefer it that way. The bear was so cute and a nice touch. PARKING: Huge lot in the 99 Ranch plaza. SERVICE: Great service though they only had 2 servers for a full restaurant. I appreciated that they offered us a better table and cleaned it well too. ATMOSPHERE: Cute, little Hong Kong cafe tucked away next to 99 Ranch. Love all the colorful decor--there are bear and astronaut figurines, little pandas and bamboo, and printouts of the specials all along the walls. I'm a fan of Hong Kong cafes and this one has been in my bookmarks for a while. My friend and I were looking for a quick bite to eat and decided to come here. To our surprise, the place was packed on a Thursday afternoon, but it was worth the wait. The food is as expected from a Hong Kong Cafe: nothing fancy but it's good, comforting, and gets the job done. Will be back the next time I'm craving baked rice!
google avatar

Tiffaney L.

Yelp
This Hong Kong-style café has great food with a nostalgic vibe. The fish fillet with corn cream sauce and beef brisket curry were both super flavorful, though a bit on the salty side. The place gets pretty busy around 7 PM, even on a Monday, and the staff was friendly and accommodating--they turned down the music when we asked since it was way too loud. Prices are a little higher than usual for Sacramento, but still fair. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come back, but it's definitely a good spot if I'm in the area.
google avatar

Belle C.

Yelp
Delicious HK style cafe with all the standard authentic HK menu items. - Cream Corn fish fillet: 10/10, the most authentic - Truffle spaghetti with shrimp: 9/10, delicious fresh shrimp - HK milk tea: 8/10 not enough condensed milk - HK toast: 10/10, deliciously crispy, beware that it comes with peanut butter in the middle 10 tables, with capacity for 2-3 large tables of 6-10ppl Parking: shared parking lot with Ranch 99 Entrance: to the side of Ranch 99
google avatar

Jenn P.

Yelp
Teppan sliced beef or chicken were very both delicious! Need more rice to soak up all that flavor. Tom Yum noodle soup was great and quite spicy. This place gets busy real quick after they open.
google avatar

Katy W.

Yelp
Super yummy!!! I love their stir fried pork intestines and three cup chicken pot!!!!! The service is nice too, I got a free drink!
google avatar

Evan L.

Yelp
Food and drinks were pretty good. Place was full of people eating. It's in front of the ranch 99 which is kind of weird to gps to
google avatar

Jenny Y.

Yelp
The menu had a lot going on, so we had to look at Yelp photos to decide what to eat. The cucumber salad had good flavor and crunch. Chicken pot was really good, but I wish the rice or spaghetti came in the bottom of the pot inside of separate on the side to soak up the sauce. The beef chow fun was ok, lacked flavor. The lemon tea was a bit too sweet, but the dog ice cube was a cute touch. I didn't provide a picture, but the popcorn chicken was bomb! Staff were friendly.
google avatar

Vienna H.

Yelp
I came here without expecting much since it's hidden under 99 ranch but it's really good. Their Hong Kong style milk tea tastes really fresh. The little ice sculpture makes them even cuter!! The pricing ranges from $5-$20 if you get their sizzling plate. Their hot plate food was delicious, but be careful if you plan to bring younger children as it can be dangerous. Service is great and their spoons and napkins are hidden in the side of the tables. I got their condensed milk with toast as I was only there to try their drinks and it wasn't the best. Bread tastes stale. We went before dinner time so it wasn't busy at all. Very quiet.
google avatar

Ciara R.

Yelp
Food was amazing. We ordered the beef brisket noodle soup, steak teppon, blue lychee soda, and the honey ginger slush with coke. Everything was a 10/10. The beef brisket soup with chewy and bouncy rice noodles flavor was absolutely great and the beef chunks were tender. The steak teppon set was perfectly seasoned, not too salty or saucy. The crunchy scorched rice was a good texture element. The blue lychee soda was subtly sweet and the lychee flavor wasn't overpowering. The honey ginger coke was very gingery and refreshing. Service was super quick too, and nice cafe music was playing as well. We will definitely be coming back in the future!
google avatar

Terence M.

Yelp
Food is pretty good from a Bay Area visitor. This is a come back Hong Kong style restaurant
google avatar

Jerry Y.

Yelp
Awesome experience! Came on a weekend, and sat down quickly. Ordered and food came out speedy. Flavors were good and orices were fair. We really enjoyed the beef handmade noodles and the fish corn noodles dish. The curry and steak was on my ok. Would definitely come back to try more.
google avatar

Karen J.

Yelp
Good service, nice cafe ambience, menu with large selection that can satisfy any craving you have. It's hidden behind ranch 99 and next to it has many different shops.
google avatar

Punketta D.

Yelp
We haven't had laksa noodles since Singapore, so when we it was on the menu we had to check it out. Lots of options that reminded me of the dai pai dongs in Hong Kong - simple, inexpensive and delicious! The beef noodle soup with handmade noodles was great, Hong Kong milk tea was yum, and the staff was really nice.

Ryan L.

Yelp
Very good food, very quick service, even for our large party. They sat us and took our orders very quickly, and were attentive with handling multiple large orders! The food itself was also superb. I got a cream sauce baked pork chop that tasted amazing.

Yelp
Hong Kong style cafe with authentic food and drinks. Prices look decent for the quality of food. The cafe is clean and organized. The place smells amazing with fresh prepared items. Highly recommended to come here!

Yelp
Ambiance 5/5 Service 5/5 Food 5/5 The cafe is really cute! Our hostess is fast and friendly! We got noodles 502 is good! My mom loves it!
google avatar

Dianna W.

Yelp
The name of the cafe in Chinese is translated as Hong Kong cafe . The menu is more Taiwanese and fusion , not exactly HK style. We had the baked seafood in cream cheese sauce rice . The white cream sauce is very tasty . It has two giant mussels, shrimps , salt & pepper fish and cuttlefish. The sauce was absorbed by the rice but it tasted good . We had also ordered curry brisket with rice . The rice was served separately and I liked it has lots of carrot in big church and potatoes. Today the curry sauce was not as thick as it should be and was too salty . The brisket and tendons were good but quite disappointing with the curry . Last time it was better with curry flavor .
google avatar

MeeMee W.

Yelp
It's a solid soup, the beef was tender and the broth was flavorful. I asked for chili oil and added it to the soup, which took it to another level of deliciousness.
google avatar

Lauren C.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday shortly after they opened, and the place was already pretty packed. It's conveniently located right next to 99 Ranch. Restaurant has a clean and cute decorated interior. Teppan beef was tender, and seasoned well - could've used just a touch more sauce. The braised pork and noodle was flavorful, loved the pickled Chinese greens too . The garlic chicken wings were fresh and perfectly crispy with good flavor and juicy meat. The milk tea with the bear was adorable and very amusing. Prices were super reasonable too compared to other places nowadays. Eager to return to try more of the menu!

Yelp
Great food and best service! Recommend without hesitation. This is one of the best experiences In SACRAMENTO.

Yelp
Not your typical Cantonese restaurant. Fun to try something different. Nice and clean with a helpful waiter. She took time to explain and made suggestions. Tasty, fresh and delicious. Different from your normal Chinese food in Sacramento.

Yelp
Very delicious! All adult and kids love their food!! I hope they can open store in San Jose!! Will visit again for sure!!!

Yelp
It was our first time here today for dinner. My fiancé ordered the Tom yum seafood noodle soup and I ordered the pork chop curry with rice (you can have it spaghetti instead if you wish). We also both ordered the Hong Kong style milk tea. I tried some of the Tom yum seafood noodles and it was delish. The noodles were thick and al dente, with an abundance of seafood in it such as calamari, shrimp, mussel, along with mushrooms and tomatoes. My curry was also delicious with a tiny bit of spicy kick to it, with visible pieces of red chili in it. The pork chop was served inside of the curry bowl/cup. It would have been better if they had just put the pork chop on the plate with the rice and have the curry separate from it. Overall, service was quick and we would definitely return to try their other food. It's nice to have a cha chaan teng close to where we live.
