Flatbread Company - Review - Old Port - Portland, ME - The Infatuation

"There’s no wrong place to eat pizza, except for maybe your bed or in an empty bathtub. But you won’t find a more ideal spot to have a few slices in Portland than at Flatbread Company, which overlooks the Casco Bay. The Portland location of this Northeast chain has a huge dining room that’s good for groups and families with screaming children, but you’ll want to try to get a table on their dock when it’s nice enough to be outside (which, by Portland standards, is anytime there’s not snow falling from the sky). Bring a group, get a few beers from their outside bar counter, and discuss the name of your future boat over a few flatbread pizzas." - Team Infatuation

Cozy place, fresh ingredients and the best pizza ever! It’s my family’s favorite place for lunch or dinner. Every time we are in Portland we make sure to go eat there.if you love Brick oven Pizza then this is your place. Highly recommended!!

Google
Cannot wait to go back to this place! AMAZING pizza...I have searched high and low to find a pizza better than Vinnie Van Go Go in Savannah. I have found it! My sister, who hates pizza, loved it too. Delicious, maple sausage was amazing. Very generous with toppings. Salad and dressing so fresh and tasty...service outstanding thanks to Lillie. Beautiful location.

Google
⸻ Flatbread Co. in Portland, Maine is an amazing spot! The environment is super welcoming, with great vibes all around. The food is absolutely delicious!!! the strawberry salad was a standout, super fresh and tasty, and their pizzas are just as impressive, loaded with fresh ingredients and awesome flavors. The Arnold Palmer is a must too, probably made with fresh lemons because it tasted so real. The staff has wonderful energy; the hosts were especially friendly and made us feel very welcomed. The only downside was the table service, it was pretty slow, we had to ask for water refills, and dirty plates lingered a bit. But other than that, everyone was kind and helpful. Overall, this place is a must if you’re in the area. Definitely will go back!!!

Google
Staff was very accommodating and food was great. Small kids were watching the pizza makers toss dough in the air. They make their own version of sweet tea using Maine maple syrup. It's not a southern tea by any way but still very good

Google
Kara our server was amazing! This was our first time dining here. The goat cheese and dressing that comes on the salad, they need to bottle it up and sell it. The pizza did not disappoint either. I highly recommend dining here. The Nashville Food Critic

Google
Flatbread Company makes some seriously delicious pizza, woodfired and packed with flavor. You can really taste the difference. The place has a great vibe too, with cozy indoor seating and awesome views from the deck. That said, be ready to wait. We had a 40-minute wait just to get a table for two, and then another 15–20 minutes before the food came out. It’s super busy, so don’t expect a lot of attention from the servers, you might only see them once or twice during your visit. Still, the food and atmosphere make it worth it. Just go in knowing it’s more of a relaxed, hang out spot than a quick dinner stop.

Google
We’ve been to the location in Maui. It was 10x better than this location. Our pizza (sausage) was a bit burnt tasting on one side and overall was pretty bland. The waiter didn’t check on us once and visibly became disinterested in us when we said we were splitting a pizza.

Google
Super yummy pizza! A nice spot for a quick lunch with a group. Plenty of options to make your own pizza or pick one already on the menu. Pretty views of the water too.

Yelp
My family and I have been going there for years. Sometimes for a celebration and sometimes just because we love going there. There is always great Pizza and salads. The service is always great. I really liked the fact that because it was such a nice day we decided to sit outside. Fantastic views. We shall see you soon! Thanks Flatbread! C.Hicks

Yelp
We had such a wonderful experience dining here! We came in as a big group with a few different dietary restrictions, and our server couldn't have been more patient or accommodating. He took the time to carefully explain the menu, make sure everyone's needs were met, and never once made us feel rushed. The pizzas were absolutely amazing--fresh, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. On top of that, the restaurant is very dog-friendly, which made the experience even more enjoyable for us. It's rare to find a place that takes such good care of both people and pets! Highly recommend this spot if u are in Portland, its best for great food, warm hospitality, and a welcoming atmosphere.

Yelp
The gluten free flatbread tasted amazing. Thin and crispy. The crust has a nice flavor as well as the toppings. Regular flatbread was also delicious, out so I'm told. Staff and manager were great às well!

Yelp
We ate here because it was close to the ferry but were pleasantly surprised by how good it was. The poor guy toiling at the pizza oven has his work cut out- he made dozens in the hour we were there. They come out molten hot and crispy. I got a middle eastern spiced beef one and hubs had one with apples on- we inhaled them! Service was friendly.

Yelp
Holy smokes! The pizza is on point. It's in the name so I'm not sure what I doubted them. While in the area, my coworker and I went for lunch. What a great choice. We sat outside because it was beautiful. Our waiter was attentive and real. The menus had one of a kind drawings on the back by kids it was a cute touch. The pizza was delicious. Crispy and flavorful. Couldn't get any better. Next time I won't come during the work day so I can try their drinks.

Yelp
Whenever I go to Flatbread, I'm in love! Their pizzas are just unmatched. I don't know what magic they put in there but it is perfectly cooked. Chewy yet toasted crust, a balanced sauce, and delectable toppings. We got the street taco flatbread and the carne special (pepperoni, ricotta, hot honey, onion). Both were so good. We also got the specialty salad (not pictured) that had corn, cotija, and pickled red onion. We also treated ourselves to some beer and drinks--yum. Our server was awesome. She was so attentive and also our food came out pretty fast. I also love how you can watch them make the flatbreads in the pizza oven. I don't know why we don't come here more often, but genuinely this is such a great time and the food is always on point.

Yelp
Service: Waitress was nice and explained different foods well. I had to wait a bit for my water refill, but other than drinks everything was smooth. Ambiance/atmosphere: A bar type pizza joint, nice on the inside. Very well lit with the right dim shading in other parts. Smelled fanatic due to the open kitchen concept. It was loud, but as a hangout you expect and welcome that. Food: the pizza was very good. Very well made with a thin crispy crust and exciting toppings. The goat cheese, pineapple, with the chicken was delicious. A savory, salty, sweet, and creamy bite really mixed so well together. The banana bread with vanilla ice cream was so delicious. Perfect amount of banana flavor and the dark chocolate gave a fantastic side kick taste. It was warm and soft and mixed with the cold rich vanilla ice cream it was truly a memorable bite.

Yelp
We wanted to take a break from fish so stopped in for some flatbread pizza. We sure are glad we did. We ordered a pepperoni and mushroom with one side added spinach. There really wasn't much spinach, but the pizza was delicious - one of the best we've had in our travels. It has to be the best crust ever - thin and crispy. The staff were helpful and service was fast. The location was scenic and unbeatable. We'll definitely be stopping in the one in Hawaii next time we're there.

Yelp
Great spot by the water and staff are all wonderful people! We got the salad special and a build your own large pizza. The vinaigrette they make and use on the salad is honestly an amazing dipping sauce for your pizza. Give this place a try!
google avatar

Yelp
We went around 6pm, sun was setting and the outdoor seating was beautiful. I enjoyed their local cola beverages. We got the birria taco pizza and a build your own pizza with pepperoni, bacon and pesto sauce. The pizzas were delicious, we wish there was a little more birria meat on the pizza. Their ranch dressing was really good!

Yelp
Always stop here on my visits to Portland - East. While technically not the best pizza I've ever had, it's still very good, they use quality ingredients, and have a great location down on the water in Old Port. Though it's a big space inside, it still feels cozy with the ovens firing on a cool/cold day. On a nice day, the umbrella'd outdoor patio is delightful. Their salads also deserve a special shout out as the greens they use are so fresh and good, and the dressings are perfect with them. The taplist always includes solid Maine/New England selections, and the rest of the bar is great. I do wish they'd offer sliced fresh jalapeños to their build-your-own options, but other than that have nothing to complain about. Extra-appreciate that they offer a GF crust that they'll do on a separate pan for my celiac friends. All in all I love Flatbread.

Yelp
I have been here a couple of times for work dinners and each time did not disappoint. Staff super friendly and fast. It's a casual dining experience. They are able to accommodate larger parties, both times I was with a group between 5-10. Reservations absolutely recommended if you have a group over 6 people. Call ahead! It can be very loud, with the open area and big groups, such as ours on the times we went, and the occasional band they might be playing. The food was great. The pizza crust was perfect, not to thick, not to thin, wasn't burnt. The toppings were balanced and plentiful. I loved everything we ordered to share at our table. The service was ok. We had to track someone down to help get our check, however, the drinks/food service was perfect. Parking can be a challenge with availability in nearby pay-for-parking lots, luckily I had a ride :)

Yelp
Waterfront views, the best pizza in Maine (flatbread lovers unite; it's all about the ingredients, not the crust; flavor that's out of this world), booth seating, a casual eatery, perfect for groups. The Community Flatbread (mushroom, caramelized onions) and Jay's Heart (a classic cheese pizza, but 10x better) are unbeatable. Pro tip: try their Potato Salad (a salad with potatoes), their Vodka Lemonade, and ask for a side of house made Ranch with your pizza.

Cara J.

Yelp
Food, service, ambiance.... All amazing. They have a patio that enjoyable to sit at and eat during the warmer weather.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious pizza spot right on the waterfront! Ordering flatbread togo was convenient on the online system. The pizza was done in the allotted time. The crust was my favorite. It was thin and chewy. Each pizza had one bolt flavor that tasted good but I felt like the toppings were a bit underwhelming. I felt myself wanting to only eat the crusts which felt like they were the star of the show.

Yelp
Visited Flatbread in April with my family of four while vacationing in the area. We went in for an early Saturday dinner and it was busy! Had to wait a bit for a table but it was quick and we were sat at a nice table facing the water. The restaurant is large and seating was comfortable. Our waiter provided great service. We enjoyed our pizzas getting a variety of pies. The pizza is thin crust and they have a variety of specialty pies as well. I would highly recommend Flatbread for a family meal if you are in Portland. Pizza did not disappoint!

Yelp
I don't know that Flatbread is a destination spot in Portland (especially considering they're technically a chain with locations in New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Hawaii as of writing this), but - ironically - I do think it's a place for locals. Why? Because it's welcoming regardless of season, it's spacious, the food is consistent, it's good for groups, there are options for most dietary restrictions, it's FOR US (probably for you too, tourist, but... it genuinely is community-centric - you'll see that in the children's artwork and the NPO's they support monthly). In the summer it's one of THE BEST patios. Located outside on the working waterfront, the views are about as Portland as it gets (good people watching too)! Yes, it's still communal picnic table seating, but it seems like (probably because of the pandemic) they are packing people in a little less tightly. It's nice to (literally) have some elbow room out here again. In the winter it's one of THE BEST restaurants to tuck away inside at. The enormous "center piece" hearth where they cook emits so much (metaphorical) warmth and light, and creates such a cozy, atmosphere. Seating inside is varied with high tops, low tops, and booths. DRINK: the fresh squeezed lemonade with maple syrup is amazing, but don't miss out on their house made sweet tea either! EAT: for me, it's all about the Vegan flatbread with their own organic wood-fired tomato sauce, caramelized onions, olives, and plant-based cheese. I have them swap out the mushrooms for the sun-dried tomatoes, I get a side of their ginger-tamari dressing to dunk my crust in... it's perfection. Add on top of that one of their award winning salads and the strawberry-rhubarb crisp (no ice cream)? This is a good date night out for under $100. They get suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuper busy at all times throughout the year, so I strongly encourage you to show up early or Join The Waitlist here on Yelp (love, love, love that they have this as an option).

Yelp
Very good quality pizza, impressed. Cool location, and good vibes overall. Very loud though, when we went at least. Service was normal.

Yelp
Flatbread is a go to in Portland! If you have a big group, they have lots of seating and lots of tables. They are right on the water with an amazing view out their windows. They have a deck and a bar as well. Their pizza is amazing! All kinds of options and even options if you are vegan or gluten free. The drinks are also amazing. A must try if you are in the area!

Yelp
Vibes, views & pizza is a win for me! Found this place via Yelp community... and it did not disappoint. Parking is very get in where you fit in. So mostly street parking (free on Sunday) or a paid parking lot and then walk is the way to go to get to this place. Staff was chill and accommodating for a service animal we had with us. Server was helpful with menu guidance and offered cost efficient choices for our group of 7. I would have loved to know more about the history of the place and the story of the flatbread but the taste of it all did tell a story for sure. I hope I return to Portland soon and will definitely be coming back. Happy Yelping!

Yelp
Legit pizza! And ranch is a must! We had a great seat Next to the water. Our server Abby was great! Highly recommend!

Yelp
A few weeks ago we went to Naples (Napoli) Italy and tried the pizza at several restaurants including the local's choice, 50 Kaló. After eating my wife and I both decided that they could not better the Flatbread Company in Portsmouth. At flatbread they properly cook in a brick oven and the ingredients pair magnificently. For many years you had a long wait to get into the restaurant, but now with the constant turnover of restaurants people are frequently trying something new. After our food tour in the culinary capital of Italy, we are happy to return to the Flatbread Company. It's definitely worth the visit. Great salads, flatbread and desserts.

Yelp
Love this place, good food, friendly staff. Recommended. Have been there since they just opened, never have any problem with our orders. Only thing here is the summer is very hard to get a seat. But still one of my favorite
google avatar

Emma G.

Yelp
Okay, if you are in Portland, please do not miss this spot!! I can't say enough good things. For one, it is right by the water. The interior is big, clean, and spread out. And they also offer outdoor seating; May is still a bit chilly and windy but I can imagine this is a hit in summer. When I walked in at 4 pm on a Monday, I was immediately greeted and helped. I was alone, but the waitress still offered me a table instead of just making me sit at the bar, which I truly appreciated, especially since it was a water view table!! Now, the main event, the food and drinks. My margarita was $13 but very large in size and so, so fresh. They had their own house made margarita mix and did not skimp on the tequila. I also ordered the small Forager flatbread and cannot even tell you how delicious it was. For $17.25, the fresh ingredients and size made this well worth it. I walked away with leftovers and they brought me a nice size box. Overall, I highly recommend this especially for those looking for a break from seafood near the port.

Yelp
This is a way over due review. My family and I have been to this location many, many times, even back in the day when you could walk in without a reservation. My husband and I love pizza so we thought this would be the perfect place to have our night before wedding party. It was absolutely perfect for us! I called and made a reservation for 25 people (the max) and it was taken care of no problem. I forgot about some people (oops) and had to add 4 more to our party and they were able to do that. We had a lot of family coming in from out of state who also wanted to celebrate with us so they called asking if they could reserve a table near us for a party of 8. I felt so bad we were making trouble but everyone there was so accommodating. They sat us at two long tables by the windows and pulled up a table close for the rest of my last minute family. We ordered salads and pizza and everything we ate was delicious. Everyone in our party enjoyed themselves throughly. The drinks were great as well as the service. It was the perfect night. Everyone at Flatbread was amazing.
google avatar

Akriti M.

Yelp
Wish I clicked better pics! The flatbreads were delicious I'm not at all a cheese and pizza person but still enjoyed both the flavours- pesto margharita and casco bay special. No overdose of heavy toppings is what I love. Highly recommend this place!!
google avatar

Andy V.

Yelp
The food here was so good. We were seated quickly, had excellent service, good draft menu of local beers, and a menu where everything looked great. The 12" small pizza is definitely enough for one person and the menu says a 16" usually feeds two people. Me and my wife each got a 12" and finished them both. The chicken bacon ranch was excellent. The crust is so thin and crispy and you can watch them be put into the brick oven pizza across the dining room. Can't recommend enough, especially if you're in the Old Port area!
google avatar

Robert S.

Yelp
Waited on waitlist for over 100 minutes after original wait time was posted as 25 minutes. Awful service by the hostess team!

Amy H.

Yelp
4.5 if it was an option. Kitchen was open and we enjoyed watching the crusts be tossed and wood fired as we awaited our meal. Had the bacon ranch salad, which was fresh and filled with ample bacon and chicken. Also, the flatbreads were a solid value and tasted good. Finished with the brownie sundae that had a hint of cinnamon and enough ice cream to be a perfect proportion with every fire-oven-warmed brownie bite. Server was icing on the cake: genuine, authentically happy Portland local who was on top of water refills and checking in at just the right intervals. This wasn't our original plan for the evening but we are very happy with how it turned out.
google avatar

Yelp
Every year we visit Portland Maine we make sure to visit the flatbread company! This is a must stop. Love the pier views and ability to watch pizzas being made and cooked. Service was good, our server was a little overwhelmed but was hanging on.

Yelp
Really enjoyed this place. Firstly, the location is great - especially in the summer when you can sit outside on the deck overlooking the wharf. The pizza is delicious and I love the size of the personal pies (just enough for one hungry person or two peckish friends). They are very artisan style and the veggies and cheese are fresh. My friend once saw Steve Carell here and she never fails to remind me of it lol. The service is also incredibly friendly and everyone has a really laidback vibe. I have seen all sorts of tourists throw all sorts of tantrums here but none I have felt were caused or escalated by the servers.

Yelp
Title: Disappointed Long-Time Customer - Quality Okay, But Now Nickel-and-Diming I've been going to Flatbread Company in Portland for years. The pizza quality has generally been fine and service has been decent. Unfortunately, my most recent visit left me really disappointed. They've started tacking on extra charges for basic things that most pizza restaurants include. $1 for extra dried herbs on a pizza, $1.50 for a small ramekin of ranch, and an unbelievable $3.75 per small ramekin of Parmesan cheese. The manager claimed it was "fresh Parmesan off the wheel," but I've never been to a pizza place that charges for a sprinkle of cheese to put on top of your pizza. Even the kids' dessert gets hit -- $0.50 extra for a squirt of canned whipped cream on a single scoop of ice cream. Cocktails are priced like they're in a fine dining restaurant, not a casual pizza spot. It feels like they're penny pinching and squeezing customers for every last add-on instead of focusing on delivering value. I used to recommend this place, but after this visit, I'm not so sure anymore.

Niall J.

Yelp
They said 45min wait and then kept adding to it. We gave up after 90min. Wish they'd been upfront about it. Always liked this restaurant but want to give people a heads up here to use caution with this place's wait times.
google avatar

Dot M.

Yelp
We chose this spot because it was in a cool waterfront location, it had a huge menu WITH gluten free options for my celiac friend (hard to find at pizza places), and they had a lot of Maine local adult bevvies. I got a pizza that had...well, I'll add a photo of the menu description. It was freaking amazing and nothing that I usually see at ANY pizza place. Go look at the menu. I'm glad we looked before we went because it would have been impossible to choose amidst the smells and sights of all the pies going by. The salads were of epic portions size as well. We loved that we could join the waitlist online and just stay in our cozy rental until then. It was pretty chilly that evening and I would not have enjoyed waiting outside for very long. The indoor area was rather full. Another place good for larger groups or smaller gatherings. And if you can't find something on the menu you're excited about, then that is definitely a YOU problem!

Yelp
Stopped for dinner based on Yelp reviews. This place has great energy and great pizza. Sat at the bar which is first come first serve to avoid the wait. Friendly bartenders with a good selection of local beer, cider, and seltzers. Started with their salad which was fresh and delicious with a very light vinaigrette. The pizza was so thin and crust had the perfect chew. Staff was bustling around and music playing added to a high energy atmosphere. Great people watching. Indoor and outdoor seating available as well as a window bar for people waiting to be seated. Enjoyed watching the staff who were cooking the pizzas in the ovens.
google avatar

Kait B.

Yelp
Delicious every time. Enjoy outdoor seating with beautiful view of the ocean! If you order pickup the parking lot across the street offers a 15min grace window so you don't have to pay for parking to grab your pizza
google avatar

Gabriel A.

Yelp
Pizza is great, vibe is casual and warm, service is good. But, you know what's really really stellar? Their hot lemonade. I highly recommend giving it a try. I know it sounds odd, but it's delicious and comforting.
google avatar

Yelp
Great food! We got a salad and two large pizzas for our group of five, which was perfect and very filling. The service was fast and friendly, and the place had a cool vibe.

Yelp
Flatbread is the absolute go-to in our eyes if you're hungry in Portland and evening thinking about debating on what to eat. Take advantage of Yelp's webpage in which you can put yourself on the waitlist ahead of time and in real-time stay up-to-date on how long you'll be waiting for a table (sometimes there is an hour+ wait). Once you sit and start getting served -- practice some patience because the restaurant is typically quite busy and they cook pizzas out of one (large) wood-fired oven. Enjoy the ambiance (it's loud and often chaotic) but there's a certain rustic beauty to the entire production. Drink beer, celebrate, and bask in the warmth form the oven's fire because you're going to feast once served. Pro Tip: ask for additional sides/toppings... our favorites for pizza are their local-made hotsauce, their salad dress, parm cheese and garlic oil (but there are other hidden secrets that your server may recommend).
google avatar

Yelp
In summer it is HAPPENING Chaotic even. This is a upscale pizza place that has great food. Expensive prices that are on par for old port. Pizza is really good, thin crispy style (see name). Staff is busy, work hard and do great. Seems like they can never hire enough. Wouldn't recommend getting pizza to go or in box. It is so thin by the time you eat it even shortly after, it will be dry and cold. Right near the waterfront.

Jen E.

Yelp
Salad was delicious as was the pepperoni pizza with sausage. Beers were ice cold too!

Yelp
This place is amazing!! I found it while researching restaurants months before our vacation. It looked awesome online (but we all know how that can go), so I knew I wanted to make sure I tried it while we were there. Flatbread company did not disappoint. Their employees were really friendly and on top of things. The view and the atmosphere on the patio was 1. Beautiful, and 2. Relaxed. The food was soooo delicious!!! My family of three devoured the pizza and left pleasantly happy. It's been over a week now, and I still can't stop thinking about it!! I'm not sure if I'll be able to get out to Maine again, but if I do.... I will be eating here for sure, maybe twice. It was one of the best places I had to eat in Maine.

Yelp
On our first night in Portland, we wandered around downtown, looking at the plethora of restaurants feeling a bit overwhelmed. I'd seen this one in Yelp, so when we stumbled across it, it doesn't stand out; we decided this was the place. We were thinking, hmm pizza, which is not very exciting for our first meal in this city, but we were hungry. It was delicious!!! The ambiance is beautiful as it is right on the water! The service was impeccable, the prices were excellent, and the food was phenomenal! If there weren't so many different places to choose from here, we would go back.
google avatar

Haylee M.

Yelp
Definitely was surprised by this place. Got the Special Veggie Flatbread for the day - Artichoke Cream Cheese base + fresh mozzarella + bell peppers + basil I think? Such a good pizza. Crust was fresh and perfectly cooked and the right thickness too. Definitely would order again. Only thing needed was a bit of crushed chili flakes. So good. Build your own salad (with greens/carrot/celery/seaweed + pineapple + red onion + chicken) was lovely. Really really big salad with a lot of greens which I actually really appreciate. Chicken was actually quite hot as if it was just cooked fresh and shredded

Yelp
Got it to-go... can't wait to go back and sit on the water. Flatbreads were super yummy!

Luke B.

Yelp
We thought that there was going to be a super long wait. The host kindly greeted us and said that it would be an hour wait to get a table, but it turned out to be only 30, which was great. Our server was great and very attentive. We got a salad to start, and it tasted fresh and was very flavorful. The pizza we got was hot and fresh. We got the pepperoni and mushroom and harvest pizzas, and they were amazing! And lastly, for dessert, we got the brownie sundae. It was awesome! 5 stars for a great experience! I would definitely recommend for everyone who loves great pizza.

Yummy pizzas and salad! The crust was superb! The vibe was lively and a nice view of the marina. Service was smooth and quick.

Yelp
Loved my dinner here a couple weeks ago! We ordered the street taco pizza (a seasonal special, I guess). It was delicious and more than enough food for the two of us. I'm always impressed with how large the waterfront restaurants are on Commercial St. Just as much streetside real estate as anywhere else, but large dining rooms and outside space. Flatbread is no exception. It's also really cool to see the chefs at work in the *very* open kitchen. If there's one thing I didn't really like, it's the odd, haphazard way they cut our pizza into oblong shapes. Thought that was pretty weird.

Yelp
Seated at 8:10 pm. Ordered at about 8:20. Ordered salad and a pizza. Nothing special. Salad came out after about 10 minutes. It is now 9:05pm and I'm still waiting on pizza. I'm about ready to walk out.
