"Savoring Waffle Sandwich Heaven in Portland It was a crisp, sunny June day in Portland when I discovered this cozy, open-air waffle haven. A quintessential Portland dig, Flavour Spot is an outdoor cafe set upon playground-like gravel with picnic tables, good jams, and bikes lined up against the fence that surrounds it. Get the waffle, ice cream, or beverage of your choice. I chose a waffle with banana, peanut butter, and Nutella—with a marshmallow creme dip, naturally (how can one go wrong with such a combo?). Wear your stretchy pants, take a seat, and enjoy Portland's summer sunshine."

13 Standout Vegetarian Meals in Portland | Eater Portland

"This breakfast food cart located in a parking lot on North Lombard offers Belgian waffle sandwiches in a dizzying amount of distinct flavors, including several vegetarian and vegan options. A strawberries-and-Nutella special comes with customer’s choice of whipped cream or cream cheese, but a veggie sausage and maple waffle sandwich is a menu stalwart. Vegans will need to let the cart know if chefs need to use a vegan batter, however." - Jenni Moore

Google
Stumbled upon this amazing lil cart trying to find a bathroom, and omg.... peeing my pants was totally worth the waffle I got! Jk.... but seriously, this place is absolutely perfect. I got a vegan PB&J waffle with bananas and now I'm salivating as I type this....great. The portions were gigantic, the customer service was exceptionally awesome and it didn't leave my wallet empty. DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS PLACE! 10/10 ALL DAY, ERR DAY.

Google
10 of 10!!!!! This place is AMAZING!!!!! Happened upon it during a walk, and are we SUPER HAPPY we did. The service was great, food was DELICIOUS, iced coffee was perfect for the walk. The guy working was super friendly, and we even sat there with our baby and doggo and ate our sandwich. Ham and Gouda Waffle Sanwich and an iced coffee was a savory combination and not to heavy for brunch or the walk. And it was only like $11. 10 of 10!!!!!

Expect a really long wait if anyone is in front of you. I spent more than 30 mins waiting for one waffle. Luckily, it was sunny outside! My waffle was really missing something. I think they should include sauce with every waffle as I see some other reviews indicate theirs were dry as well. Some *real* maple syrup or some hot sauce would make these sandwiches 10x better.

Google
Don't let its quaint size and location throw you off this place is by far one of the best places I've eaten since I've been in Portland. If you're trying to watch your calories this probably isn't the place to go but they do have some lighter options but everything is pretty much served on a waffle and is just as exciting and amazing as it sounds. Will be visiting religiously. Ps Super Dog friendly ... Asked to give my pup some bacon !!!!!

Google
Ham&gouda add egg, and maple sausage add egg!!! Yummmmyyyy! First time here and won’t be our last. This was so filling and fresh. Cheap with all the flavors. If he ask if you want to add syrup, do it! The waffle is sweet flavor with vanilla and everything just goes so well. Literally can’t say enough about it. Next time we will also get a sweet waffle

Google
The waffles are always delicious! The new spot at N Lombard and Newman is great. It’s in the parking of Western Meats so you can pick up a steak while you wait.

Google
Decent little spot! Maybe at first glance I didn't see it, but wish they just had a sausage and bacon waffle. I suppose I could've requested it - maybe next time!

Google
A real treat. Tried the Graceland. Hard to go wrong with banana bacon peanut butter inside a made to order waffle Yum!

Yelp
It's a must try food truck, The Waffle Sandwich is a loaded with your chosen ingredients, I tried the Bacon Maple filled with meat and I had an egg, Prefect fulfilling breakfast sandwich. Great service place was busy when I arrived, food made fresh to order. The ambiance is outdoors, Food truck is parked in front of a meat market, no table seating, well worth the sandwich to go!

Yelp
Pancake or waffle person? Regardless of which person you are, you will enjoy the waffles at this spot! Didn't have a rush when we came in the morning but the big savory favorites mentioned were the ham & gouda and maple sausage so had to get both. You honestly can probably get one and share that but why not try both? They give you a sensor so you can walk around if you're waiting for your order but as we were walking around it smelled amazing. Now let's get to the food! Nice crisp waffles that were still fluffy to wrap around the fillings. The ham & gouda had a great cheese pull and was great to dip in the maple syrup for the sweet & savory mix. The sausage patty was the right size and drenched in syrup. Both were enjoyable and had were different enough for the savory treats. Looking at their menu they have just as much an extensive side for the sweets so will need to check those out another time.

Kimi M.

Yelp
David gave us the best food recommendations!!! My waffle was fluffy and warm, I saw him give dog treats, and overall I will 100% go back and get food there again after class.

Yelp
YUM! I've been wanting to try this place out for a while, and now I live nearby so I had to go. Just writing this review is making me salivate... I ordered the THB - Sliced Turkey, Harvati cheese, and Bacon wrapped in a most excellent waffle. It was so good, I had to go back a few days later. The staff are very kind and helpful - plus they make great food! Enjoy!

Yelp
My boyfriend & I are here from Los Angeles visiting Portland and were looking for a quick spot to get some breakfast. This place was just 5 minutes from our Airbnb and probably one of the top food spots we've tried since staying here. The guy from New Jersey helping us out was so nice and so friendly! We appreciated his kindness. Try this place out! You will not be disappointed.

Yelp
Haven't been here in 6 years since O was born. We got on in the beginning of a road trip and date I say it hit the flavour spot! It was better than we even remembered. He had to go classic with sausage and maple cream. We ordered ahead through Yelp to avoid standing in the rain. The waffle was soaked in the perfect amount of sweet maple cream with that toasty juicy sausage. Just perfection and perfect for eating while driving so we could hit the road on time!
google avatar

Yelp
Always a good goto for a nice priced breakfast & can never go wrong with the sausage n maple definitely a classic goto all while filling you up for under 10$
google avatar

Zach S.

Yelp
What a wonderful spot! Clutch brunch treats both savory and sweet I recommend getting the THB and the strawberry. You'll want to come back for more options. They appreciate their costumers just by reading the posts on the wall and seeing the photos. Friendly staff and vibes! I'll be back weekly!???? Yumm! You guys hit the spot

Anna M.

Yelp
We loved this place! We got three different waffles and ate every last bite. One with banana, Nutella and PB. One with sausage and maple syrup, and one with butter and powdered sugar. They were good sized. We were on that side of town for a soccer tournament, and actually tried to go back the next day but sadly it was too late and they were closed. We will probably plan a drive out just for the waffles.

Yelp
Been coming here since early days. Moved away for 10 years and came back in 2019. Now we are leaving again and I'm sad. First place we came when we moved back and last one we are visiting before we leave. One of the few times in life where not only did things not change for the worse, it's better every time. This has become a Portland institution. A must do. No idea how I haven't posted a review before. My very big bad. The only thing I could complain about is I really miss the ovaltine lattes. I've been trying for well over a decade to dupe it and I cannot. They were addictive. Pro-tip: if you can't decide and you have an air fryer, take an extra one home for breakfast the next morning, or late night munchies. It's amazing. I'm sure going to miss it. Please take care of our kind and talented waffle fam. Be friendly. Tip well. Remember how hard they are working to make your morning great.

Yelp
Hot waffles, made to order. Reasonably priced, fresh ingredients, and lots of flavor combos. A+ chicken & waffles.

Yelp
Got the veggie sausage maple with peanut butter this time. The perfect balance of sweet and savory! I've also tried their regular sausage maple and ham with Gouda. Everything is delicious. They've got a new location a little bit closer to St. John's but still off Lombard in North Portland. Nice staLove this place.

Yelp
Great place they were a couple of blocks from us but moved up the road. Will still go back there but will have to take the car.
google avatar

Yelp
It's an awesome food cart conveniently located on Lombard and right outside a gym! Get the Graceland! Banana, peanut butter, and bacon on a waffle. Yum.
google avatar

Yelp
I LOVE this place!! It's the perfect food cart to get a quick breakfast. I always get the Veggie and Maple.

Yelp
Desperate for espresso on my way to Egypt (NE Portland can just feel that far), I eyeballed Flavor Spot and zipped into the lot for a mocha. There were only a couple of people milling about on a Sunday at 12:45pm. The service was friendly. Not super fast but my mocha was perfect.$3.75 for 16oz. Since I had the non eating kid with me( no mom I dont want anything!) I got a butter and sugar waffle for $3. She ate half. It was a really good waffle. I know my kid. She can live on air until the waffle shows up.

Yelp
Portland wouldn't have been as memorable if it wasn't for Flavour Spot. LA may have taco trucks everywhere but they have nothing on this little waffle shack! I think the waffles here could go head-to-head with LA's famous Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles. If money can buy temporary happiness, then spend $4 on the Sausage and Maple waffle and you will be as happy as i was. Sit at the picnic bench and enjoy life with each delicious bite. It's been almost two months since our visit, and J and I still talk about it! see pics

Yelp
This place never disappoints! My son needed this place to start off his birthday today! Thank you for being open. Thank you for the excellent service. The waffles were crispy. The bacon on point. The chicken and waffles made my morning. Everything about this cart is professional and yummy.

Yelp
We were at PIR on a Sunday. I wanted breakfast but didn't feel like sitting and waiting during the busy breakfast hour. We both got the veggie sausage waffle sandwich with maple butter. I added peanut butter for $1 extra. They were AMAZING! The portion sizes were good and so were the prices. Being vegetarian, I hate going places exclusively vegetarian. Here, I could easily bring family or friends, and they could enjoy the experience just as much as myself. We definitely plan on returning! Just a quick stop off I5. Plus I love that it's not sit down. To those who complain about seating: you knew what type of establishment it was. By keeping additional costs low, they keep the food prices low.

Mikal G.

Yelp
Never disappoints! So glad they made it through the pandemic. Been a staple in our neighborhood for a long time. Thanks!

Velo Y.

Yelp
Menu says they're $5 but actually more around $8-$9 kinda stupid they can't update the menu but the food is bomb so whatever

Grayson R.

Yelp
Delicious! I love the sausage and maple, and they have chicken and waffle on the weekends!

Jordan F.

Yelp
Definitely a new favorite spot. Bacon was delicious, waffle cooked perfectly, maple cream sauce was amazing. Very good prices, definitely coming back

Amy O.

Yelp
They have all the classics done really well and s well as some other innovative choices. There are also many vegan and vegetarian options. Food is cooked on the spot but always very quick and friendly.

Yelp
When you first walk up to Flavour Spot, it smells like an old-school ice cream parlor with the scent of vanilla and fresh waffle cones wafting from the parking lot. Then you get in line (if there is one) and have to decide whether you want to go sweet (lemon, s'more, nutter butter, strawberry and cream cheese, for example), savory (turkey and havarti, ham and cheese) or somewhere in between (maple and sausage, bacon with banana and peanut butter, etc.). As other reviewers have noted, a second picnic table - or maybe some benches placed strategically - would be great. But that extra hospitality could also draw bigger crowds. And I've never experienced rude service here - just efficient. When the coffee ran out mid-way through my cup being filled today, another pot was already prepared to finish the job. I waited maybe five minutes for my order to be ready. That said, I will definitely order extra maple next time because my bacon maple bacon was a little dry. And that's ok, because there will be a next time. Flavour Spot is delicious.

Meg R.

Yelp
I'm almost hesitant to leave a review for this place because I don't want the secret to get out about how absolutely fire it is, but they deserve it. My boyfriend and I tried this place on a whim a couple weeks ago and now we have to fight the urge to go every single morning. I've tried several things from the menu now and they are all AMAZING! It may come off as a bit pricey but I think it's totally worth it given the quality of ingredients and how much they load up each waffle sandwich. Great neighborhood spot!!!
google avatar

Lisa B.

Yelp
I will make the hour drive from home to get, delicious, sweet, goodness from Flavour Spot. I don't come here too often (because of the drive) but will plan a day around it. The guy there is always nice and quick with service. I get the waffle, sausage, and maple butter. It's just dripping with maple butter. Yum! The Nutella and whipped cream is also heaven, but you might want to share that one!
google avatar

Marissa D.

Yelp
I love this place and always bring friends and family who are visiting the area here. I would recommend calling ahead because busy weekends can mean a long wait time. I love the vegan maple sausage breakfast waffle or the double maple pecan. Also, their orange juice is the best OJ I've ever had and is worth the price!!

Yelp
With fast service, amazingly delicious dutch tacos, and menu options of both savory and sweet waffles, Flavour Spot is an excellent spot for breakfast on Lombard! As a fan of savory food myself, I've ordered the #1 (Sausage & Maple) and the Ham & Gouda with added maple butter. The waffles here are soft, fresh, and nicely soak up any added maple butter in the taco. I highly recommend spending an extra dollar fifty to elevate your dutch taco to the next level with some maple butter! It's the perfect combination of savory-sweet that I like, given that the sweetness of the maple butter doesn't overpower the savory elements in the dutch taco. Though both the #1 and the Ham & Gouda are absolutely delicious, I think my favorite out of the two would have to be the Ham & Gouda. The combination of black forest ham, gouda cheese, and (added) maple butter inside a waffle is simply genius. The #1 is also excellent, though I think that the sausage used at Bagel & Box (which I believe is Flavour Spot's sister cart of some sort?) tastes better than here. Nonetheless, the #1 is super bomb! It's my boyfriend's favorite. Finally, although some reviewers feel that it's pricey here, I think Flavour Spot's prices are super reasonable for the quality and amount of food you get. Although the dutch tacos may not look the biggest, they're really filling and super satisfying. As a Portland transplant, I'm shocked (and blessed!) that so many food carts pump out super noms, high quality food for a decent price-- Flavour Spot is no exception :)

Yelp
There on the corner of Lombard and Boston, stood the Flavour food cart he'd passed so often. Mystically magnetic and shrouded in mist, he hungrily glanced at the waffle sandwich list. Sausage & Maple or P B n J? Maybe Blackforest Ham w/ Gouda today. So oft with the later, this happy bloke went, Street food bliss filled his stomach, his money well spent. Yelp
All of this recent talk of Taco Trucks and Lunch Carts got me thinking: what about the forgotten deliciousness of the Waffle-Sandwich? Most parking lots in North Portland don't hold much promise for the "activities" that take place on a daily basis. But this particular parking lot holds a LEGAL addiction that can easily replace your local coffee stop, if your waistline allows. FlavourSpot puts the "McGriddle" to shame by making delicious and fresh waffle-sandwich creations such as the Sausage & Maple ($4), the Ham & Cheese ($4), and the PBnJ ($3.50). Feeling inspired? You can choose to throw in some of your own mixers like Nutella, Lemon Curd, Mallow Fluff or one of their three kinds of Peanut Butter. Their coffee is strong and decent - and they don't charge extra for soy or organic milk! If your tummy is made of Iron, you could also try one of their Specialty hot or cold drinks that look as ridiculously good as their waffles. Get there early - they close at 3pm everyday of the week. If you have a weakness for waffles (and no discipline), you better PRAY that this Waffle Truck of Deliciousness does not choose to expand to a second location. For the rest of us - let's keep our fingers crossed!

Yelp
If you're reading this, you're probably a human being who is alive. As a living person, you probably try to sustain yourself daily with things like food. The problem is, you are not really living. No, you're not. Not until you have eaten a sausage patty smothered in maple butter that is taco'd by a waffle from Flavour Spot. This waffle cart by the side of the road in the Mississipi Heights neighborhood has amazing coffee, friendly service, and a dozen or so different kinds of waffle sandwiches that are not any where near as funky as they might sound and more delicious than words on a sign could possibly convey. I recommend the #1 which is sausage, but the M9 bacon one and turkey and havarti one were also phenomenal. So, sit down at a picnic table in the gravel and try to breathe in between bites. You are alive and your life is good.

Yelp
This place is fantastic and one-of-a-kind-- I've loved it so much since 2008. My dad talks about it all the time, even though he only visits every 4 years or so. He can't get Flavour spot out of his head. Me neither-- the food and just general concept is sublime-- but I mean he is pretty obsessed. So, I guess, my advice is to go here with your dad! Also, you want "Food Carts"? This is an OG Portland food cart, the likes of which are seldom seen anymore. I'm so glad the spot is still going strong.
google avatar

Adam L.

Yelp
Just entertained The Flavour" for the first time a few minutes ago. A friend highly recommended it and he was right on with his gloating review. It is a small place (kiosk) but it packs multiple options for a great eating experience. Not only are they creative with there presentation and combos, but exceptionally friendly and recommended some fun alternatives. Try it, enjoy and have a great time.
google avatar

Chelsea C.

Yelp
Delicious little spot just off Lombard. Be prepared to wait a little bit of time, but it's well worth it.
google avatar

Duane P.

Yelp
Considering the short distance from home to this food cart heaven, I was doing " what was I thinking before now " ? After a short decision on what to have, I did, as so many others have and had the maple, sausage waffle. The mix of savory and sweet hit the spot. Finally, I made a good decision. There looks to be many other choices to try on future visits, which will be plenty. Don't wait to go so long like I did.
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped in this morning and had a No 3 Vegan maple and sausage waffle. Never had one served to me like a falafel sandwich. Not sure what vegan sausage they use but its a puck shaped variety that is pretty good. The maple and syrup and waffle were all a+. The only downside would be I think it's a tad overpriced.

Yelp
Maximum NOMNOM power, to the nth degree. WAFFLES, anyone? How about straight shots of espresso?! The waits at this little trailer parked all by its lonesome in front of that video store, in an empty parking lot, can really test your patience. Depending on when you patronize, it can be a hefty wait for some waffles and/or joe. I love to stick with the simplistic on the menu: the plain powdered sugar with melted butter waffle. Others love to order the crazy Q bacon done-up waffle sandwich. That sort of mania is better left untouched for moi. So very different from Waffle Window's texture and density, richness.. and yet they're so good in their own right. I loved both of these places to frequent. One I could bike to; the other was a short 15-20 min drive over to Hawthorne. I knew that FS would spawn a junior!! Not a surprise at all for me to learn of its success and 2nd place near the new carted area over in Mississippi. Good food builds a loyal following, and that always calls for 'cart offspring'.

Megan F.

Yelp
Great prices! Great flavour! Great spot! Friday mornings were a great time to go!
google avatar

Bree B.

Yelp
I'm not a fan of waffles really but this place made me want to have a waffle with peanut butter and banana every day.
google avatar

Lisa C.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to go when I come to Portland. So good! They make them to order and instead of messy syrup they use a spread that stays in place! Great place to try!
google avatar

Hank C.

Yelp
Lost me as a long time customer by charging me more than double on my Postmates order. 24$ at checkout, 54$ when it arrived. Total theft.
google avatar

Larissa P.

Yelp
This place is so good. I've tried multiple items off their menu and everything has been absolutely delicious!!
google avatar

Sara C.

Yelp
Best Waffle Breakie Wraps: Waffle, eggs, cheese, sausage/bacon. + Tasty coffee creations. Who could ask for more at 7:00am. I've been coming here for years, and will keep frequenting here, so long as they are open. Breakfast or Lunch. Yum, yum, yum!
google avatar

Rebecca G.

Yelp
Right on Lombard in NoPo. In the lot of west coast fitness so plenty of parking. I went on a Sunday sunny morning. There was maybe 6 people ahead of us but we only waited maybe 15 minutes for our waffles. I got the sweet cream & jam waffle. Loved it. My brother got the sausage & maple waffle. He loved it. Paid $10.50 for two waffles. They have coffee also. There is one picnic table to sit at. We went straight home to eat ours.
google avatar

April N.

Yelp
I love this place so much. I've visited quite a few times and have never been disappointed. They serve so many different types of filled waffles that I always have a hard time deciding which one to get. In the end, my favorite is the butter and powdered sugar. It's simple but it's divine. The people are friendly without being too peppy for a morning meal for us non-morning people. The coffee is even pretty good and I'm picky about my coffee. Will keep visiting as long as they're there!
google avatar

Mindy M.

Yelp
So good when they actually have the menu items that you go there for. Every time I go now, it seems that they're always out of something or have something taped off of the menu. Tried calling once to see if they had something back on the menu but they don't answer the phone :(
google avatar

Emily B.

Yelp
Tasty tasty! Visiting the area, decided to walk down and check out Flavour Spot. The staff was friendly and offered recommendations. There was a pretty steady stream of customers, but our coffee and food was out promptly and hot! The Banana Nutter was so nummy! My bf enjoyed the savory TBH. We'd stop here again, for sure!

K B.

Yelp
Delicious! Excellent service. Vegan options. Generous helpings. I recommend Banana Nutter!
