"Fleishers, after reopening its Park Slope location following a mass employee walkout, has permanently closed. The walkout was spurred by a directive to remove Black Lives Matter and LGBTQ Pride signs." - Caroline Shin

"Fleishers, the pioneering tristate butcher shop, has officially shuttered after never fully recovering from the pandemic and an employee walkout last summer, Grub Street reports, when the company’s lead investor, Robert Rosania, allegedly instructed CEO John Adams to remove signs supporting the Black Lives Matter and LGBTQIA+ movements across its stores in New York and Connecticut in July 2021. Nearly three dozen employees staged the walkout as a result, and the shop’s Park Slope flagship did not reopen until eight months later. The company, as Adams told Grub, is currently “negotiating with suppliers and landlords and hopes to ‘close the business gracefully.’”" - Bao Ong

It's pricey, but the meat is sustainable, responsible, and fantastic. Totally worth a splurge. Order in advance over the phone, and call the day of to confirm. They are really busy, and I have had orders fall through the cracks, but they always get me what I need when I need it. They are also really knowledgeable, so if you are not sure how much you need or what cut off best for your dish, the can probably answer with confidence.

It feels good to support local business especially when it is a place like this one. Clean, people are extremely nice and helpful, local products. I know they are expending soon which will be great because my only issue with this place is the lack of cold cuts and because it is a small place they are sometimes a bit limited on the choices. But I love going there and I will be back tomorrow morning to get my meat!

Their meat is just not great. You’ll pay $30 for a ribeye steak that will taste average. Their meat selection is also really poor, even though their clean presentation and branding tries to make you forget about all this. Their hours are also not helpful, since they open at 12pm. You can’t get meat for lunch, and their rotisserie chicken isn’t ready before 3-4pm. On top of all this, the reason why they were closed for so long is definitely problematic (you should Google it), and should make you wonder if you want to support this type of business. What am I supposed to do then? You’ll ask. Two options: go to Paisanos, or eat less meat 😇

I've been a customer since their opening several years ago and they continue to be Park Slope's top spot for premium cuts of meat. You'll pay a step more than Whole Foods and the like but the selection and personable, knowledgeable counter service is top notch even during the pandemic. The ground bacon/beef mix is great for quick, no-nonsense burgers.

The negative reviews below completely lack any awareness of how a small butcher could safely provide services to customers given the COVID restrictions. Yes, you needed to order a day ahead of time because they weren’t allowing people into the shop to actually see the meats, so everything was basically running on special order only. This was posted on their website and storefront. The alternative, which some other butchers went with, was to have a 2 hour line around the block- that is no exaggeration- that’s why I stayed with Fleishers. Instead of crying and writing a bad review, maybe do some research, call ahead or open your eyes to read a sign, since they did not hide their policies. I’ve ordered 8-10 times during the pandemic, various cuts of steak and a bone in pork butt. All orders were ready on time for pickup at my desired time, as I selected on the order form. The cuts were all top notch, and they provided great advice on how to prepare the meats when I had questions. Don’t be thrown off by the high and mighty reviews below that lack any acknowledgement that the business is also made of people who are also dealing with the pandemic. This is a great butcher.

Fleishers has been our go to for meat during the pandemic. Not always everything available, but in a middle of a pandemic we're grateful for what we get. Great quality and good friendly service. Yes it's not supermarket pricing but you get what you pay for and well worth it. Those who complain about not getting personalized same day service during the height of the pandemic are nothing but a disgrace. Thank you everyone at Fleishers!

They have a wonderful selection of fresh meats, sausages and poultry, plus all the goodies and condiments to go with them. The smell of the chickens on the rotisserie is enough to make you swoon. You don't even have to cook. You can get everything you need for dinner for a picnic ready to go right here.

I stopped in this charming butcher shop yesterday for a little pre holiday errand and was so pleasantly surprised. The store smells so fresh and clean. Not like industrial cleaner but little fresh and well maintained meat. The roasting chickens in the window didn't hurt matters! The gentleman who helped me was spending his first day on the job and was already very knowledgeable and helpful. I got advice and I picked up some beef stew meat and lamb bacon for an extremely well received Boeuf Bourguignon. It was a lovely shopping experience and a pleasure to patronize a business whose ethics are so admirable. Thank you!
