"Dupont’s spaghetti stalwart loves a good holiday theme (its “Kamala la-la-la-la la-la-la-la” one got a visit from the then-VP elect back in 2021). This year is all about Sophia Loren. A massive evergreen positioned prominently near its streetery is adorned with images of the Italian actress over the years, along with cheese graters, Italian flags, and dough rollers. Its friends from nearby Little Gay Pub, which is also all dolled up for the holidays, designed the tree for Floriana." - Tierney Plumb

"Dupont’s longstanding Italian restaurant went all in on a “Kamala la-la-la-la la-la-la-la” Christmas theme in November 2019, decking out its pandemic-era outdoor dining tents with cut-outs and posters of the VP-elect. This place was amazing! My friend brought me here for my first night visiting from Ohio. She made us a reservation about a week or two in advance and mentioned we would have to check in when we get there to be put on another list for the balcony reservations. So we went a bit earlier and asked for a balcony. While we were waiting, we walked the river walk and even got a drink at Sauce’d. by the time we were finishing up, we got the call our balcony was ready. We were seated on the balcony and the view was amazing. Keep in mind, it is direct sunsetting heat, so we were sweating. There was no way to hide from the sun, but once it set, it was such an experience! We had a great time enjoying the outdoor intimate atmosphere and the changing view of the river and sky. The food and service was amazing and don’t even get me started on their bread and pesto! Yumm! This would be such a cute romantic evening or a girls night out to reconnect! We will be back!!

Had a wonderful dinner experience a few months back with two coworkers. Let me start by saying the service was impeccable! I felt well taken care of. Now the food... soooooo delicious!!! I highly recommend this place! Very unique and it's in a great part of DC

Dorothy was absolutely incredible! First time at the restaurant and decided to sit at the bar, but left like feeling Dorothy is my new best friend! Also the espresso martini is top 5 in the entire DMV and #1 to this date in DC. 1000/10. Will be back.

Just FYI, they no longer serve lunch, only dinner and open at 5 pm daily. The site for ordering also doesn't work. The staff was very friendly, I called about a super old gift card I had and was told it will always work. At 9:30pm I placed an order for pickup and they accommodated even though they close at 10 pm. Now for the food, I ordered the Black Gnocchi ($26), arancini ($18) and the Sunday gravy ($38). This came out to roughly $90 after taxes. The black gnocchi was delicious but it was 12 pieces of gnocchi and 3 and a half pieces of rock shrimp. I feel like the price vs quantity was a bit off. Arancini wasn't amazing but good. Sunday gravy is excellent (as always) and enough to feed two people, just needed a little salt. The best thing here is the complimentary bread and pesto.

I had high hopes for this place after reading all of the reviews. We arrived early and had the idea of having cocktails at the bar, at which point we were directed into the basement where we walked through the kitchen to a dingy dive bar space. The cocktails were fine. I hadn't given up hope yet. Our dinner was average at best. The appetizers were fine, except for the Caesar salad which made me red line. I don't know where on Earth they thought that recipe came from, but putting boiled eggs in a caesar salad is criminal. It tasted like nothing more than mayonnaise and Parmesan with a boiled egg on top. It was the most offensive Caesar salad I've ever had in my life. The gnocchi with the lamb ragu was decent but the scallop risotto was oily and heavy. We barely ate our entrees. The service was fine until the end where it got a little bit slow. I would skip this....not impressed at all.

Floriana is my go to place whenever I have someone visiting town. The bar in the basement is a hidden gem. Dorothy will make you the best espresso martini in the city.

Google
A great place to go for a night out. The food is very good. authentic Italian food prepared like it is in Italy, with out the North American influence. The staff was amazing, literally every person we interacted with was friendly and knowledgeable. Located in an old townhouse made for a nice ambiance. There is a nice speakeasy downstairs where you can have an after dinner drink. We will definitely be back again!

Everything is always amazing here. The staff are so friendly and helpful and the food is so good. I’ve been 3 times now. It’s a favorite to celebrate a special occasion. The pesto and bread are always a great way to start the meal and I’ve liked all the pasta dishes I’ve tried.

Yelp
as always, Floriana provided a wonderful dining experience for us. We have tried pretty much everything on their menu, and it never disappoints. tonight we tried the duck carbonara. It was amazing. Made with dry cured duck which gave us lovely salty flavor, mixed with a fresh pasta. It was an excellent dish. We love this restaurant. It never disappoints.

Yelp
the way I went to an Italian restaurant and didn't get pasta is criminal - okay so floriana is the cutest ever, it's in an old townhome and so cozy and special. they rotate the menu a lot to keep it seasonal but for some odd reason had only like 2 pasta pasta noodle dishes...like we know im not ordering ravioli to get 3 pieces for $35... - I went with the duck breast sitting on the most ~melty pillowy ~ gnocchi I have ever had. this made me like gnocchi. the texture and the way the potato soaked up all the glaze from the duck WOW - the meat itself had a sweet demi glaze that contrasted the savoriness of the meat and potato. I was hooked. it came with swiss chard but by that they meant maybe a tablespoon ... sigh - my companion got the lamb gnocchi which was devoured in .3 seconds, a great sign. he said the duck was better but loved the richness of the lamb and the insane quality of the gnocchi - they bring you bread with the best pesto I've ever eaten once you order. the pesto was soooo lemoney and light - the duck had a large layer of fat under the skin above the breast on every piece, meaning I was cutting away chunks of my meal that were not doing it for me. personal preference probably but I did not like that

Josh R.

Yelp
I came for the lamb gnocchi and was a little disappointed that after I ordered it, they ran out so they had to substitute with spaghetti noodles. However, the lamb ragu tasted amazing and had a lot of flavor! They also gave me house bread with a pesto sauce, and it was good. Overall, I'd come back to this place.

Yelp
This is my first time here and I enjoyed my experience. Decided to grab dinner before heading to the Keegan theater. I would definitely go back again. It had a family atmosphere and the food was good. Had the calamari, Arancini, and beet salad. Service was ok.

Yelp
I went on Saturday to Floriana. Initially I thought of sitting inside but outside was shady so i asked for a seat under the tent. My reservation was for 6 pm. I get the menu and immediately put in an order for a glass of wine because the waiter was right there. I thought I ordered red but a white came out. Not a big deal. I cheated and looked at the menu ahead of time and was thinking lasagna. Lots of people out on Saturday night. The restaurant wasn't that busy. I got a look inside and not too many people eating. I had to wash my hands. The stairs going up are slanted a bit. No soap to wash in the men's room. I didn't notice it until my hands were wet...ok. A pre dinner snack was on the table when I returned form the men's room. I wasn't sure what it was...looked like toast with a side of pesto. Never thought about pesto and toast but I'll give it a try. Not sure what was in the small metal container but it didn't taste good. Ok, I push it aside and sip the wine. The lasagna showed up before too long and (I have to be honest) I have never seen lasagna that looked like what was on my plate. I have a bite or two, it's ok. It was very dry and needed more sauce and less melted cheese. So I pack it up, finish the wine, pay the check and leave.

Yelp
Great place for quality Italian! This was my first time going for brunch. They had a curated brunch menu, so don't expect the full dinner menu during the day! We especially love their bread and pesto they usually serve at dinner, so we asked if they had it for brunch. They don't usually serve it but they were nice enough to give us some! It is truly amazing pesto and delicious bread. The lasagna is amazing and full of flavor. The totelloni was delicious but I recommend adding some pesto sauce for more of a kick if you can get your hands on it! The Banana Foster French Toast was delicious but very sweet. Recommend sharing that!

Yelp
I am so glad we chose Floriana to grab dinner on our trip to DC. A friend of mine had recommended so we obliged. We got a table outside. Got started with some cocktails and bread that was on the house. We skipped appetizers and went straight to grabbing some pastas! I had the pork belly pasta and my husband got the sea food pasta. The portion was pretty decent. We couldn't finish and had leftovers! The service was bit slow, it took sometime to get our food.

Yelp
About a 2.5: Floriana has another location out in Wilmington, and the restaurants feature homemade pastas, steaks, and chops. A friend treated me to dinner here, making advance reservations. We started off with: +Tajarin - prepared with egg yolk noodles, funghi misto, truffle oil, and porcini cream sauce; not sure how we felt about the noodles, but the porcini cream sauce was nice and creamy +Burrata - with butternut squash puree and walnuts; good with bread +Calamari Fritti - served with a spicy tomato sauce; the calamari was just okay; wished it was battered better and served with some type of aioli instead +and, a Black Gnocchi - with lobster cream, roasted peppers, Andouille sausage, and rock shrimp; I was excited for this app, but this fell short as it was bland and not seasoned For our mains, we knew we wanted to try their homemade pastas: +the Lobster Tagliarini - with squid ink pasta and arrabbiata sauce; wished this had more lobster meat +the Burrata Ravioli - with roasted mushrooms and a spinach and basil velutata; this was, unfortunately, super bland, which was the opposite of what we experienced with the burrata appetizer +and, the Ravioli di Zucca - with roasted butternut squash and gorgonzola, walnuts, and a brown butter sage sauce; enjoyed the butternut squash filling with the walnuts as a topping Service was friendly and attentive. The space is cute and cozy, with the bright red walls. Limited street parking available in the area. +homemade pastas +friendly service +limited street parking availabe

Yelp
Went for Sunday night dinner. Fairly uncrowded with very nice outdoor patio seating. Area was clean with enough space between patrons. Service was prompt and friendly. Very reasonable prices for their restaurant week menu. Black gnocchi was fantastic. As other reviewers have commented, the lasagna is great and the duck dish was definitely on point. Half off bottle of wine wrapped up our meal. Overall great experience.

Yelp
We had a reservation for 7:30, but didn't get seated until 8:15. One member of our party actually saw a group of 4 come in and get seated immediately, around 7:45. Also, when we did get seated, it was at a 2 person table, when there were many other tables open. The food was decent. The duck breast was cooked well except the end pieces, which were over cooked. Also the parsnips were a bit undercooked but the chard was seasoned well. I think the duck breast would have been better served with a purée to balance the saltiness of the duck. We ordered brussel sprouts for the table which were very good. They were cooked and seasoned well and had a nice texture. Another person in my group ordered the orecchiette pasta, which was good, but they substituted the ramps with something else without any notice. Finally, another person in my group ordered the rockfish. They liked the olives in it, but felt the rest of it was under seasoned.

Yelp
I'm the vice president of a non-profit, and we held our afterparty here after a long, event-filled weekend. The staff was wonderful and took great care of us. They even accommodated my crazy dietary restrictions (vegan and gluten free) at an Italian place! The food and drinks were delicious. Everyone was so happy. Thank you, Floriana!

Yelp
I would give them 100 stars if I could!!! Let's start with logistics. Make sure to call and get a reservation. Its a small restaurant, but has a couple of floors and outdoor seating but it was pretty packed on a Sunday. The ambiance is super romantic! DRINKS: I got the espresso martini and it was delicious! My husband got something but I cant remember what it was (and I forgot to take a picture). They were also doing half price wine bottles. FOOD: The service was amazing. We had a few questions and we were torn between so many different incredible options but our waitress was pure perfection! We started with the Arancini. They were some of the best I've had. The crust was thin bit still crispy so it didn't take away from the risotto. And the inside was so flavorful! For our entrees, we were torn between basically the whole menu. BUT! You can do half portions so we got 4 meals to try (we dug into on so fast we forgot to take a picture). - The Lamb Gnocchi was so savory. The ricotta on to really adds creaminess that gives it depth - We also got the Gnocchi that had goat cheese foam. It was a lighter taste, but the goat cheese was the star. It added a really unique flavor without messing up the lightness of it. - the Tortelloni Mignon are a MUST! That is the one we forgot to take a picture of. It's rich and creamy and actually has a good amount of meat inside. - My favorite was the Shrimp and Scallop Risotto. Let me preface this with I LOVE RISOTTO! So at first I was worried it would be basic. But it was one of the best I've ever had. It was rich and flavorful and the truffle really brought all the flavor together. One of my favorite restaurants throughout our trip. The prices weren't outrageous and for the quality of the food. Everything was made fresh and you could tell.

Hiral D.

Yelp
Came here for my boyfriend's birthday and we enjoyed it! We ordered a Caesar salad and eggplant appetizer, loved both! We also got the tajarin, and tortellini. We ate it very quickly! Also love the bread and pesto. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
Great place to be for great experience, classy with great service. What else you like to know? Just try it

Kevin Z.

Yelp
Even though Kamala Harris ate before inauguration, this place is not the place. Their best dish, lasagna, was kind of cold and not flavored enough. The lasagna sheets were also too mushy and dissolved in my mouth in a weird way. The in house gnocchi was ok. The scallops and risotto was definitely the best dish we had. Calamari is very mid. Server was great!

Laura C.

Yelp
The service here was subpar and the mediocre food couldn't make up for our experience. I wouldn't recommend coming here, even with a reservation. I made a reservation for 7:30 for a group of 3 on a Saturday night, but two of us arrived early. The host led us to a table for 2, but then asked us to wait downstairs at the bar when I reminded him that we had a reservation for 3. When the third person made it to the restaurant, he saw a group get seated immediately upon walking in, while we were asked to continue to wait. We had to repeatedly remind the staff that we were waiting on our table. The three of us were finally seated at 8:30, an hour after our reservation, at a table meant for two people when there were plenty of larger tables open. We ordered the fried Brussels sprouts to start, which was largely fine except for the burnt garlic flavor that lingered on your palette. Our main dishes were less offensive. My friend ordered the rockfish, which he said was bland. The plate counted on the olive tapenade to carry all of the flavor. The duck breast was good, but the veggies on the plate could afford to be cooked longer for better texture. I was excited to try the orecchiette, since the dish featured ramps and the other flavors looked good. Unfortunately, I was not told when ordering that they did not have ramps, and I was disappointed to find that they had substituted it for another vegetable after taking a few bites. The ambiance is very cozy and intimate, but unfortunately our experience here was not as we had hoped. I will look elsewhere for dinner the next time I'm in Dupont Circle.

Mike W.

Yelp
Always a solid delicious choice. I've been going here for what seems like decades....and I'm never disappointed. Great for outside brunch too! Staff is always friendly and accommodating too. Go here!

Rachael B.

Yelp
I love everything about this place, especially the ambiance. It's the perfect place to go in the winter or fall, as the atmosphere is dark, cozy, & homey. It's literally in an old row home. The food, drinks, & service were also great. Drinks: Dirty Martini & Old Fashioned were both delicious Food: Brussels - excellent Ravioli di Zucca - 10/10 amazing Scallops - very good Sunday gravy - partner got this and really liked it Tortellini mignon - partner's dad got this and loved it. I'll definitely be back!

Mary H.

Yelp
This was a five star until recently, when I felt like the lasagna I almost always get was pretty bad. Probably half a pound of ground beef, falling apart, weirdly crunchy. Last time I had it, I swore it was the best lasagna I've ever had. Server broke a $100 for us on a $79 bill, purposely gave us a $20 and $1 so we were forced to tip him the full amount. He also kept scraping crumbs off my table as I ate, which was uncomfortable. Attentive staff and incredible wine menu. Beware: the Ceasar has egg in it, like pieces and chunks. It's written on the menu but I didn't read it. Weird and gross.

Anna S.

Yelp
I love italian food and finding a good cozy spot in the city is not hard. Floriana is a great cozy spot that makes you feel like you stepped out of DC and takes away the noise and bustle of Dupont Circle. The service was phenomenal and the food was some of the best italian I have had in a while. Nice wine selection and yummy desserts too!

Tony W.

Yelp
Go, do not walk RUN!!! Get the Brussels sprouts app, ordered the calamari too and didn't care for it. Waiter took it back and removed it from our check. Also ordered 1/2 plate Asparagus risotto 1/2 plate mushroom ravioli, Sunday gravy, male teenager ordered the scallop and shrimp risotto and loved it. Wife couldn't decide between the risotto and the ravioli the waiter then recommended 1/2 plate of each!!!! Great great great rec. If you go ask to be seated in Michael's section, if there are two Michael's, hey it could happen, this Michael lives down the block. $20 corkage fee and Michael knew how to deal with a 15 year old wine like a pro. I'm always concerned about that and that was just the beginning of exceptional service and fantastic Italian food. I grew up in Jersey and have been making Italian food since I was 8 years old. I hadn't stepped into an Italian restaurant since I was in Venice Italy. My good friend told me to go and get the Sunday gravy pasta. I'm so glad we went AND brought a great bottle of Sangiovese!!! To go along with one of my favorite meals I've ever had. Only drawback it was a nice day second week of October and the patio had some mosquitoes which wasn't that big of a deal. You can sit inside or on the street not the patio and you'll be fine.

Stephen D.

Yelp
Went to the bar area, hidden gem under the restaurant and it was amazing vibe with good drinks! The service was fantastic

Yelp
A quiet (when we were there) little place with big flavor! We had an early dinner here prior to theater tickets, and chose Floriana based on numerous yelp reviews. Thanks, guys! We were treated well (I will overlook the server's comment on our southern accents, lol) and served very professionally. We started with martinis, because you have to after a 100 mile drive on I-95. They were fine. Average. But it was the only average thing on the table that night. Bread service was good. The bread was full bodied and paired well with the dipping sauce (oil and herbs.) Appetizers - I had to have the arancini. I crave these fried little balls of lovely. Served on a bed of Sunday gravy (red sauce) these were a wonderful start. My dinner partner enjoyed the panzanalla salad, which had a wonderful dressing on it. An ample appetizer, I would want a few more bites. But it turned out the mains were going to make us grateful to have left a little room. Entrees - The risotto (with scallops and shrimp) was cooked absolutely perfectly. Great texture on the risotto, seafood was right on point. Flavors were awesome. My selection of orechiette was a bit spicy, which I like, but would have put off a less tolerant diner. This pasta dish included sausage and rapini and just enveloped my mouth with rich flavor. Both entrees were too good to leave behind and too generous to finish. I packed the remains in a cooler bag I had brought along with freezer blocks and had the best lunch in my office the next day. With the theater calling, we left more quickly than I would prefer. Next time I shall make sure that we go course to course and make an evening of it. We left feeling well fed and well treated. Can't ask for more!

Yelp
My husband and I joined old friends for dinner last night at Floriana. From the food to the service and ambiance, it was a great experience. We started with a drink in the bar which was small and had a bit of a speakeasy feel. The bartender was lovely and very friendly. Then on to dinner where our server went above and beyond to make sure were were having a nice meal and an enjoyable experience. He gave us ample time to catch up and did not make us feel rushed in any way. Always a bonus when catching up with friends. The lasagne was fantastic and all of their house-made pastas looked and tasted wonderful. Our friend ordered the Salmon which was cooked perfectly. And don't skip dessert! Great meal, Great service!

Luana C.

Yelp
Overall: Great Italian place that I highly recommend for a casual or more formal dinner. There is a lot of variety and the service has always been on-point. Tastiness: I am not a fan of pasta and avoid it as much as possible given the low nutritional content, but I really like this place. Their pastas are fresh, but most importantly you are not stuck ordering pasta if you don't want it. I usually opt for a seafood dish (scallops or fish) and my husband is a fan of their pastas and steaks (most recently he had a fillet mignon which he thoroughly enjoyed). I always enjoy their selection of red Italian wines, whether by the glass or the bottle. Presentation: Nothing too creative, but functional and elegant. Service: Attentive, courteous, and always energized. Ambiance: Relaxing and welcoming! Whether you are wearing a ball-gown and tux, or jeans and a shirt, all are welcome and all seem to enjoy themselves here. Cleanliness: Very clean and neat. Price: Adequate for NW DC (fillet mignon around $48 and scallops around $35), with wine glasses in the $14-16 range).

Yelp
1/10/22 in the Year of the Restaurant! Tonight's selection was Floriana at 17th/Q in Dupont Circle. I have only eaten here once before but that was about 7.5 YEARS ago... So it was really refreshing to revisit and be reminded of how insanely GREAT this restaurant is!! CHEERS! Of course, the menu is the main event so I'll jump in. Started the meal with the High Tea vodka cocktail from Dito's bar downstairs. It's light and refreshing ruby red, cucumber, lime and Earl Grey and just a little fruity. But the thinly shaved English cucumbers on top were a great addition for a little nibble with your cocktail! Thomas the server was just about the most welcoming and hospitable server I've ever encountered! Being family probably helped, but you get a real sense that he likes what he does. He brought out the Italian bread plate with the parsley-almond-garlic pesto which was extraordinary. Herbaceous, nuttier than most pesto with just the right amount of garlic. And I like garlic a lot, so maybe enough for me may be a bit more than wanted for others. It's a matter of taste! It's part of Italian dining custom to have a Primi, Secondi, Pasta, and Entree. Followed by dessert. But that also usually entails dishes for SHARING. But I'll get to that... The first thing I ordered was the salumi and formaggio board. Silly me, after all these years of dining and culinary school at the CIA, I'd figure on the SIZE of the board... Nope! It's quite a lot! Gorgonzola Dolce, Piave, and Goat Feta, with Andouille, Finnocchiona, and Prosciutto, garnished with Casa Vetrano Olives and Borettone onions (cousin of sweet Vidalia onions). The andouille was spicier than expected, but the creamy cheeses balanced it out. And the onions were marinated in oil and balsamic. Still crisp but sweet and salty at the same time. Mouthwatering! Next I couldn't resist the Calamari Fritti. The menu says it comes with a spicy sauce, but I didn't find it that spicy. But again, another dish large enough to share. Thomas told me that they change the fryer oil everyday so the calamari stays light and crispy on the outside but still tender on the inside. Seasoned perfectly! And I couldn't eat at such a fine Italian restaurant without having a pasta dish. Not just any pasta dish but the signature Lasagna! Beef, bechamel, and house-made mozzarella. Layer upon later is meat, cheese, and noodle with fresh herbs on top. Truly a prized dish on the menu that is a MUST try!! But be warned: like the previous dishes, this is bigger than I was expecting... For my main course, I HAD the have the Duck Breast with chestnut, port pear, and radicchio. God I love duck, but so few places serve it. The bitterness of the radicchio, with the sweet port pears, and the chestnuts balance the earthy duck to perfection. Most chefs like to serve duck the same as beef: medium rare. But I like both done medium. A well balanced dish that is actually just enough for one person. And finally, for dessert, again, I had to go with the specialty: tiramisu. But then Thomas told me that they also had chocolate mousse... so being torn between the classic and a lifelong favorite, I had to get BOTH. However I did get the tiramisu to go, but I had to have just a bite for this review. And it kicked me right in the rear teeth! Chocolatey and coffeelicious it's a POW of decadent traditional flavors! And then there was the chocolate mousse. The taste was spot on but I dare say it was obvious that it was pre-portioned and left in a refrigerator... like most places with such a dessert. Be that as it may, is was equally delicious. Not as light and airy as I like, but as all things: it's a matter of taste! And now, as I've mentioned a few times, the portion sizes are quite large and enough to share. I ended up taking home more food than I actually ate in the dining room! So I will have leftovers for days! And for the price paid, makes it a great value! Even more so if you get the $40 deal that gives appetizer, entree and dessert. The restaurant is an old DC row house that has the kitchen and bar in the English basement level, main dining room on the first floor decorated in maroon, drapes, mirrors, and replica paintings like Van Gogh's self-portrait. The old fireplaces are no longer functional, but the small electric log with lights provides a cute and reminiscent ambiance of an earlier time. There is another smaller dining room upstairs that's usually used for parties or for overflow from the main dining room on busy weekends. Light woodwind jazz by Oliver Nelson on saxophone and flute playing, but not too loudly. It was actually difficult for Shazam to hear it! So that makes for ease of conversation. A MUST if you like Italian!! Florianarestaurant.com #Floriana Floriana Restaurant DC

Yelp
First time at this place and def enjoyed ourselves. Food was very good, hot and didn't take that long. Service was meh, no one asked us once how the food was. We would go back for the food. Not the best service.

Crystal D.

Yelp
The food was absolutely amazing. Every dish we tried -- Caesar salad, lasagna, tortellini mignon, Sunday gravy, and NY strip. However, the service is what could have been better. We made a reservation far in advance to celebrate our wedding anniversary and even added that to the notes and special occasion section of the reservation. We also requested to be seated by a window. Fast forward to arrival, we waited about 5 minutes until someone even came to the hostess stand. Once they did, our server (I believe her name was Maria) greeted us in a very lackluster tone and asked how can she help. I told her we had a reservation and she showed us to the dining room and asked "where do you want to sit", pointing at two tables that clearly were not window seats. I asked if we could sit by the window and she said let me check and proceeded to check her iPad and then said "okay, that's fine". We sat down, ordered, ate, and was offered some tiramisu at the end -- not one mention of an anniversary. For such a special occasion, I was expecting a little more consideration and thoroughness. A simple "Happy Anniversary" would have even been acceptable. After all, we chose this restaurant for its top rating of romantic spots in the DC area. I'm not sure if the sever completely miss the ball on the reservation being for an anniversary or if this is just standard procedure, either way if it's a special occasion I would dine else where.

Worked my way down to the tiny dark basement bar (with six people it was half full). We have been coming here for years for consistently good food and top notch wines but admittedly it has been awhile -so glad we dropped in. The basement is decorated nicely but the atmosphere is different from the restaurant, more casual, a Madonna concert film was playing and there were two other casually dressed couples enjoying wine who had just finished eating. We both had nice t-shirts on and felt welcome. We ordered a dirty dito martini with Blue cheese stuffed olives and a glass of super Tuscan. Both were amazing but I tip my hat to the wine and had a second glass. Note to self: bottles are half off on Sunday and Wednesday and if this glass is any indication you will be spoiled at that price. After enjoying some great bread with a wonderful pesto spread the pasta dishes came out. The Lamb Gnocchi was super flavorful and almost had too much gnocchi so although good we may get something else next time. And there will be a next time because the other pasta dish - I ordered without too much thought - was an absolute standout, the duck carbonara pasta. The noodles a perfect Al dente, the duck prosciutto to die for...and the creamy sauce with the right amount of pepper just pulls everything together perfectly. I was absolutely blown away by the simplicity and the flavors. If you are ever doubting food's ability to improve your mood give this wonderful duck carbonara a try--you'll fall in love! I got a real sense of homemade comfort. The bartender was an attractive blond in a tuxedo vest and she was perfectly attentive.

Yelp
We loved our time at Floriana. We had the risotto that is amazing. The seafood was so tasty and was not over cooked. The spaghetti is simply perfect. The place is very nice. It's a little tight with other tables but was not an issue. Floriana brings a touch of old school Italian with modern flair that creates the perfect combination.

Yelp
Stop what you're doing and go here for dinner right now! To start, the service was excellent. I had made a reservation but my friend and I stopped downstairs to get cocktails and mixed drinks because we weren't really feeling wine. If you bring them from downstairs, you can bring the drinks into the restaurant. The reservation was for outside but they said they had availability inside as well, which was appreciated during a cold fall night. Our server was attentive and our food came out quickly. Another props to the server because I ordered the venison gnocchi to go when he took our orders and brought it to me after my friend and I were done with our meal. Before we got our delicious pastas, they served us some bomb bread and pesto. Some of the best pesto I've ever had! I had to stop myself from eating too much so I wouldn't be full for my pasta. The pasta is incredible. I understand that it's all handmade and every bite is to die. I loved the butternut pasta with sage, butter, and walnuts. My friend also loved the shrimp risotto. I would absolutely come back. The prices are reasonable and I want to try more pasta dishes and the extensive wine list. Go go go!

Yelp
Had a fantastic dinner here on a Saturday night! We sat at a table inside and their dining area is so cozy; it feels like you're eating in the dining room of someone's (very nice) house! They manage to fit a lot of tables in a not huge space but it doesn't feel cramped at all. The outdoor dining area also looked very lovely and people seemed to be enjoying themselves there as well. After being seated we were brought a plate of bread with their garlic-almond pesto. The bread had a great texture and the pesto was absolutely delicious. For starters we ordered the lamb tartare and the black gnocchi. I thought the lamb tartare was a bit over-seasoned so you couldn't really taste the lamb. The black gnocchi, however, was excellent. You can tell the pasta itself is made fresh and the lobster cream sauce was so tasty. For mains we had the tortelloni mignon and the lasagna. I'm personally not a huge lasagna person but I could tell that it is very good lasagna, and tasted more heavily of beef than most lasagnas I've had (if you don't love the taste of meat then it may not be for you, although that's probably then true for lasagna in general). The tortelloni mignon was outstanding, again with incredibly fresh pasta, tender meat inside the tortelloni, and a delicious sauce. The appetizer portions were fairly small especially for sharing, which was great because we were worried about filling up on appetizers before our mains came but it turned out not to be an issue. The mains were pretty substantial portion sizes, and the lasagna especially was giant, so we ended up with some nice leftovers for the next day. Overall a very pleasant atmosphere with friendly service and delicious fresh Italian food. Would definitely come here again!

Yelp
HIGHLY RECOMMEND! The outside patio is my favorite in DC - very romantic and intimate while in the midst of the action on 17th street. Food is PHENOMENAL and the servers were amazing people. My friend and I got the Tajarin and the Scallop and Shrimp Risotto...both were so delicious and im still dreaming of that risotto.

Yelp
We had a wonderful meal here tonight. We started with fried calamari. Excellent! Crispy & flavorful. Then I had the pork tenderloin. It was served with Gorgonzola & was delicious, as well as beautifully prepared. My husband had the butternut squash ravioli with Gorgonzola. He liked it very much. The setting was a big plus, too. We sat outside on the patio in front of the restaurant. It was lovely.

Yelp
My mom and I came here for dinner and we had an amazing time! The food was very tasty and the service was great! We highly recommend this place.

Yelp
One of my favorite places in DC they have the best lasagna in city. I usually get the Sunday gravy which is pasta dish with beef short rib, sausage, and pork belly. It is served in tomato sauce. Both dishes are delicious and are large I regularly eat half and take the rest home. I have also gotten all of their salad appetizers. Great to share. The fired calamari is my go to non salad appetizer. Tastes fresh and cooked perfectly. All the meals come with bread and a great pesto spread. Haven't had a desert there.

Yelp
Not what we expected based on people's comments. The menu is very limited, no kids menu is available so we had to pay $19 for a plate of spaghetti for a nine year old. Food is ok, not worth a return trip for sure. The tortellini mignon was very good. Overall service was good, location is a little old and dated, kind of dingy. With so many top notch places in DC, this is a once and done for me.

Yelp
It was dimly lit and had a charming atmosphere and decor. It seemed like it would make a nice date spot, but it was also great for dinner with a friend. On a Friday night we didn't wait for a table. We sat inside and had a nice view of the outside from the table. The setting, service, and food were all great. Scallop & Shrimp Risotto- I went here specifically for risotto and this lived up to expectations. It was cooked well and perfectly creamy. Tiramisu- I wish the coffee flavor was stronger but I liked it for the most part.

Yelp
Wow. One of the best meals I have ever had. This sentiment could be due to the fact that I was celebrating an anniversary fortuitously falling on Restaurant Week. It could also be due to the large wine bottle ordered during dinner. However, I truly think the unique flavors, service, and food options were amazing at an amazing price. I went to Floriana on a whim--I had seen that Restaurant Week was during the week I was visiting DC. I searched up restaurants all over and finally ended up settling on this place. I was able to make a reservation immediately on the phone (and was seated right on the dot!). However, be prepared for stairs in order to get into the restaurant and the bathroom!! The ambience is quite unique--it's almost as if it is a residential home in DuPont area. The cozy atmosphere coupled with the home-like decor made me feel welcomed and warm. The tables were spaced out well, and I was able to get a table inside at a private area. While busy, the whole experience felt so intimate. The waiters were very polite and were attentive to my questions. They happily suggested wine pairings and different food options. Because it was restaurant week, the meal was only ~$30 for a three course meal. My partner and I ordered lobster gnocchi (black squid ink) and mussels (huge portion flavored with herbs and spices) for appetizers, scallops with risotto and lamb gnocchi for the main course, and had mousse and pistachio ice cream for dinner. The scallops were fresh and lemony, the mussels were a humongous portion, and the lobster gnocchi was so unique and flavorful. This was a Restaurant Week deal, but I truly believe the food was worth the regular price on a normal day. Overall, Floriana's atmosphere, friendly service, and flavorful foods make this restaurant extremely special. I had an amazing time and dined for almost 2 hours--time flew in the cozy home. Highly recommend for anyone in the area, especially if it is Restaurant Week!

Yelp
The food is always amazing, and the services is top notch. Love this place. Every time I travel to DC, I have to go here. My favorite dish is the calamari fritta it's always delicious.

Yelp
Love Italian cuisine? I know just the place! Ambiance Nestled in DuPont Circle is Floriana, an Italian bistro found in a vintage D.C. row house. Super cozy and cute, especially if you can snag a table by the fireplace! Suggested Attire: smart casual Parking: there's no garages near by so build in time to look for street parking. Presentation From the appetizers to the dessert, everything was neatly plated with bountiful potions. I enjoyed the simplistic garnish on the entrees too! Follow my food IG for video reviews @what.Alecia.ate Taste I started with the brussel sprouts and the fried calamari. Both were amazing! (Hence no pics) The calamari was perfectly crisp but tender and served with a spicy tomato sauce. The brussels were covered in a sherry vinaigrette and were chef's kiss. I'd highly recommend trying it! For my entree I had the shrimp and scallop risotto. It was deliciously creamy. Though, the seafood to risotto ratio wasn't what I hoped for so I wouldn't order it again. To finish it off, I had the tiramisu which was decadent and rich! Service The staff were friendly and more than helpful. Attentive and quick! Price Wine bottles were half off, love that! Appetizers: $12-20 Scallop & shrimp risotto: $25 Tiramisu: $10 Follow my food IG for video reviews @what.Alecia.ate

Yelp
One of my favorite places to have weekend brunch! We called them in advance and reserved our table. They are pretty busy on the weekends so I definitely suggest calling them ahead and doing the same. They have great outdoor seating. Every seat is equipped with a heater to keep you warm in this cold weather. We ordered Italian sausage egg omelette and lasagna with potatoes and a side of bacon. I absolutely love their lasagna. Portion size perfect. Potatoes are so good. Sautéed with amazing flavors. Definitely reminded me of potatoes from a North Indian restaurant. They don't have full menu for Sunday brunch. It's located on one of the busy neighborhoods in DC so parking can be extremely hard to find. Since we live near by we usually walk. Great service and great food!!

Yelp
Such a cute place, very suitable for a date night. Inside is dimly lit and seating is intimate. The food was excellent and so was the service. Our food was delayed and took about an hour to get to us but our server was very nice about it and offered us a free round of drinks.

Yelp
We booked a last minute reservation at Floriana and were pleasantly surprised with this restaurant. I've heard many people talk about Floriana and I had to try it myself...Upon entering Floriana, you are greeted with a quaint, intimate dining room setting with festive lights. We were seated very quickly and the service was remarkable. The bread they gave for an appetizer was a tad bit stale but I am in complete awe of the basil pesto dip that accompanied the bread. So good. You must order the Black Gnocchi. This dish is infused with squid ink and packed with flavor. The gnocchi melts in your mouth and is bathed in a tomatoe based sauce with some greens on top for a nice contrasting flavor. The artistry behind the dish presentation was exquisite. All three of the guests I came with approved of this dish and we were even considering ordering another. The Calamari fritti was tasty but it didn't stand out comparative to the other dishes. I would order this again but it was particularly memorable as the gnocchi was. The Risotto was a bit on the saltier side but tasty nonetheless. Lastly, the expresso mousse was bitter upon first bite with a sweet aftertaste. If I came back, I would order the tiramisu over the expresso mousse. Overall-- fantastic food and stellar atmosphere.

Yelp
Overall: 9/10 Setting: very intimate. We came in the evening and it was pleasantly dark. There is an awkward hallway where you stand before being seated but it didn't take that long. Food: every single thing we got was AMAZING. Lamb gnocchi are to die for. We also really enjoyed the tortellini mignon. Pro tip: the black gnocchi appetizer is amazing but the squid ink will leave your mouth stained, make sure to drink up some wine!

Yelp
We enjoyed a blustery cold outdoor meal in the middle of winter. While the temperature was horrible, the service was amazing considering it was seriously 20 degrees out and everyone thought we were nuts to be outside. The food was lovely - we've been many times over the years and the menu never disappoints. Minus one star for the lasagne - my husband said the flavor just wasn't there.

Yelp
Had a good experience at Floriana. My partner and I went for winter restaurant week. The restaurant is cozy and feels as if you're inside someone's house (brownstone). We had a reservation and seated immediately. The waiter explained the restaurant week menu to us and took our drink order. Upon returning he brought water and bread with a very tasty pesto sauce. I could've eaten it all night. Our drinks came and were GREAT! We ordered the calamari (yummy), crispy Brussels sprouts (WOW), and the caprese (WOW)! My partner ordered the filet and it was probably of the most tender and well seasoned steaks I've had. The scallop and shrimp risotto was the star of my order. Absolutely AMAZING!!! I got the roasted chicken and it was ok. It was a little over cooked making the meat a bit dry and bitter. For dessert we got tiramisu....delicious! We'll definitely be coming back to try other items in the menu!!
