Where to Eat Chicken Parm Sandwiches in Boston

"Florina is best known for its massive (and delicious) slices of New York-style pizza — the classic pepperoni is the play — but its chicken parm sub, which is topped with piquant tomato sauce and a melty combination of provolone and pecorino, is hard to beat. Florina is open for takeout and delivery via its own website and delivery via Caviar. There are also a few tables set up outside." - Terrence Doyle

How to Have a Great Takeout Picnic in Boston

"What to Eat: Beacon Hill-area workers already know the secret: Florina is the spot to go in the neighborhood for excellent jumbo pizza slices. Get one. The panini hit the spot, too, and may be easier to handle for picnic purposes. Where to Eat: In front of the State House, Boston Common (or a bit farther west into the Public Garden) is the obvious choice. The Common and the Garden, among Boston’s best-known and largest green spaces, have definitely seen their share of crowds during the pandemic, but there’s more than enough room to spread out and find a quiet bench or patch of grass. How to Order: Official Website [takeout] / Caviar [delivery]" - Terrence Doyle, Rachel Leah Blumenthal

What can I say? This is easily among the best pizzas I’ve ever had. I had no idea this place even existed until I randomly walked in for a slice while out on a walk and I’m so glad I did. Talk about a hidden gem. That five-dollar slice is basically three slices in one. Generously sized, perfectly crispy on the bottom, and with a crust that hits the sweet spot between chewy and crunchy. The sauce is rich and flavorful, the cheese is well-balanced without being greasy, and everything just works together beautifully. Whether you’re a local or just visiting Boston, this place is worth the stop. I’ll definitely be coming back and next time I’m getting a whole pie. P.S. the music was spot on!

Google
This place was super busy; the line was out the door but I was able to get a seat by the window to dine in. I got the meatball to start, which was served in a bowl which was an interesting presentation! It was soft and juicy, I could have eaten 2 easily. I also got the lasagna, which took about 15 mins to prepare. It all tasted fresh, and homemade; very enjoyable!

Google
I was a block away from my first trip to Florina when it hit me- the unmistakable, tantalizing, god-given scent of freshly baked pizza. After a short wait in a longish line I picked up two slices of this bad boy and even though I CAN EAT, I still ended up with leftovers. The service was quick, friendly and efficient, no complaints there. Not many places to sit so keep that in mind if you're planning on eating in. I'll be back!

Google
I’m selective on the reviews I bother with, but I absolutely had to sound off on this amazing pizza! On the last night of our vacation, my husband and I ordered pizza and enjoyed it in our hotel room, and long story short, this is the best pizza we’ve had in years & years. The sauce, the ricotta, the crust, all five stars. Pizza has to really impress us, so we’ll be getting this any time we come back to Boston. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Super nice staff, great neighborhood staple for a quick lunch bite. Tried the spinach mushroom white pizza - delicious even on a hot day. Will be back to try the cheese!

Google
Hands down, Florina is my favorite pizza shop in Boston! New York-style slices, quick and efficient service, unassuming little shop feel. When you get a slice, it’s got the perfect crisp, no flop, and a slight tanginess to the sauce that I absolutely love. Their caprese sub is also really good, I always add prosciutto to it and ask for balsamic added. The sub roll is always soft and the tomato la fresh, and the mozzarella is so creamy. My only knock is that they aren’t open late or on weekends! Go visit and get a slice!!

Great local Sicilian pizza spot in Beacon Hill. I’ve been making the occasional stop to Florina for lunch over the past two years, and let me tell you, it’s a slice above the rest—except maybe a few spots in the North End. During peak lunch hours, the lines can get quite long, so I usually just grab a slice or two for takeout. I’m loyal to their Sicilian slices, so I can’t comment on the regular ones, but the Sicilian has the perfect amount of crunch, and the bottom crust doesn’t flop— just the way I like it. I also occasionally swing by for a late lunch when I’m in the mood for a sandwich or pasta, and most of what I’ve tried hits the spot with its straightforward goodness. One of my favorites is "That" sandwich, loaded with a satisfying hunk of breaded chicken, roasted red peppers, and a drizzle of white balsamic vinaigrette. The chicken cutlet itself is decent, but it’s the classic combo that really makes it cluck. When it comes to pasta, I usually go for the Linguine Pesto—it’s always a winner. On the other hand, their tomato/ plum sauce-based pastas sometimes turn out a bit too watery. The sauce doesn’t cling to the rigatoni, which leaves the dish a bit bland. As for the arancini, I found it to be just meh. Since it’s premade and reheated, it lacks that crispy, golden crunch. If you find yourself near Boston Common, I highly recommend carbing up with their sandwiches, pesto linguine, or a slice of Sicilian pizza.

Google
This place was great when it first opened. It's gone downhill. Today, Florina Salad, before the lunch rush: house blend greens, breaded chicken, plum tomato, roasted red pepper, red onion & fresh mozzarella with our white balsamic vinaigrette House blend greens were iceberg with a tiny bit of wilted romaine and even less radicchio, chicken was dry. The thickly-sliced onions, giant tomatoes, roasted peppers and mozzarella were just piled up in one spot. I keep giving them a chance because when they do it, they do it right, but they're taking too many shortcuts. Sorry to see the quality degrade so much.

Yelp
Got the sausage pizza delivered and the house salad. The pizza was crispy, minimal flop, with great tangy/spicy sauce. Very good crunchy crust. This was my first time ordering and I will definitely be going back. Not a ton of cheese on the pizza, but surprisingly I didn't mind at all as the sauce was so good. To be fair, they also offer an extra cheese option if that's what you want. Salad was solid too. Chicken cutlet was clearly homemade and they didn't skimp which I appreciate.

Yelp
Fantastic pizza, great portions, affordable, friendly people, little small but hopefully they are able to expand soon!

Yelp
The reviews were great and saw many recommendations for this place online but in my opinion, both slices fell short. For one, there was zero chew or resistance to the crust. More cracker like on the thin crust once you got to the actual crust and the base was pretty lifeless. The thick crust was kind of like a nicely toasted piece of focaccia instead of a pillowy Sicilian with a good bit of chew. You were able to bite right through without any work. I'm not looking for a ton of pull from the pizza when I bite it but I'm looking for a slight amount of resistance/elasticity for a good balance. Flavor of both of these pizzas were very lacking. Thick crust had no sauce, so it should have some flavorful toppings and he spinach and roasted red pepper was quite boring. The "upside down" slice was fine, but the crust itself bad zero flavor and sauce was very average. Quantity wise, you got a huge amount of pizza for the price and the shop itself was cool inside. Very casual, fast service and nice to enjoy a slice or two. Would potentially go back if I was with someone who really wanted it, but wouldn't go out of my way otherwise.

Yelp
The highlight was absolutely the white margherita pizza. The hint of garlic aroma was amazing and the pockets of ricotta added a nice contrast. The Sicilian pepperoni slice was very ok. Nothing much to say. I wouldn't get it again. I would not get the fall gnocchi again though - it reminded me of thickened canned chicken soup. It promised rosemary and pecorino but left much to be desired. Service is a tiny bit tough but all good. The restaurant is quite tight but has a good handful of seats. Free beverage if you get two slices of pizza!

Yelp
Came here on a whim and glad we did. Ordered the pizza and a salad. Definitely more of a take out spot but they had some seating too which I loved. The ambiance made me feel like I was in a pizza shop outside of the city. The salad was DELICIOUS. They served it in a stainless steel bowl and I thought that was unique and loved that! The pizza was piping hot when it came out. It was thin and light. I do wish the sauce had a little more flavor to it but all in all it was good. The jalapeños were nice and spicy too. The service was quick and great.

Yelp
I should preface this review by saying that I had this pizza at an event that was catered by Florina Pizzeria and Paninotecca, so I am not 100% on the names of the slices I tried, but I really enjoyed this. I've been to a lot of events with a lot of pizza over the past few years, and this is one of the best ones, though looking at the menu, it is a bit pricey. Still, really good and high quality ingredients on these pies: Margherita - My all time favorite type of pizza is margherita, and this is a great version. The cheese was perfect and the balance of basil to cheese to sauce was exactly what you look for in a good margherita slice. Loved it! Serpica - This was a bit mediocre, but not terrible. There wasn't a whole lot of flavor on this, but it was nice to have a veggie option on here. This one had zucchini, tomato, and eggplant, so it is a good choice for those who don't eat meat! St. Barth - This was the star of the show. There was so much prosciutto on this balanced with the tangy balsamic dressing and great basil flavor. Each bite of this was utterly amazing. I'd pay the price for this pizza any day - it's one of the best slices I've ever had in Boston. This one had gorgonzola, mozzarella, tomato, arugula, prosciutto, and balsamic. Sausage arrabbiata - This was SPICY. I could only eat a few bites before passing this one off to my partner. They really liked it, but for someone who can't handle too much spice, this was not something I was able to eat at all. Chicken pesto - This was decent, but not something I'd go for a second time. It was nice to have another option without tomato sauce, but the St. Barth wins hand down in that category. Still, the pesto was nice and there was a nice balance of chicken on the slice. All in all, the pizza here is really good. The prices are a bit high, but the quality is definitely there. I think having tried a bunch of different types here, I'd definitely come back but only order some specific flavors. 4/5 - very very good!

Yelp
I came here on a weekday afternoon and there were a couple of other people in the shop. I got my slices pretty quick and there was also a special going on for a free can of soda. The pizza itself was very good. The pepperoni slice was huge but light (thin) and a good amount of cheese, pepperoni, and sauce. The sauce was pretty good too. Overall, the pizza was flavorful, crispy yet there was plenty of bread. Sauce was also great. I would recommend this place for the reasonable prices and generous, delicious portions.

Yelp
One of the better hidden pizza gems in Boston. Nice thin style pizza reminiscent of NY style. Large slices (equivalent to two regular slices) makes you feel more so that you get your money's worth. I've tried the cheese slice but speciality and grandma slices all looked equally appetizing . Sauce was fresh and tangy. Service was fast. Some indoor seating but limited.

Yelp
This might be my new favorite pizza spot in Boston! I first tried a slice at the pizza festival, and this was my first time ordering from the actual store. I love the sausage arrabbiata, it was soooooo good. The red sauce was so flavorful. The sausage was also flattened and thin, unlike other pizza places. It's a bummer they're not open on weekends!
google avatar

Nan K.

Yelp
I loved the Sicilian slice! The dough is flavorful and the sauce was even better! Their triangle slices were huge, I was so impressed by the portions here. 2 slices per person is enough for dinner!
google avatar

Yelp
Small pizza shop that is busting out really great food. The staff was friendly and answered any questions we had about the different pizzas they had on display. The pizza sauce was excellent and I wish I had more space for a meatball sub. It was very hot in the shop, not sure if the ac was broke or low, but not unbearable.

Yelp
Cozy and intimate, Florina is an excellent choice if you're searching for pizza by the slice or a full pie. Located on Beacon Hill just a few steps from the State House, I can't wait to go back and try their other offerings.
google avatar

Jeff K.

Yelp
One of my favorite spots in Boston for years. My personal favorite is the chicken BOMBA. Can't go wrong with any of the pizza either - everything is top quality.
google avatar

Anthony G.

Yelp
Spectacular. A must stop if visiting Boston to grab a slice. People were welcoming and patient while we looked over the options. Thin crust pizza was amazing. You can taste the freshness and cooked perfectly. Also tried the Sicilian slice. Very good. They make the most of the space with a few tables, window counter seating and outside tables.
google avatar

Alex X.

Yelp
Pizza was amazing. 8.5 out of 10. Growing up in Brooklyn NY and traveling across the country and enjoying hundreds of slices, I would say Florina is a must go if you are in Boston. Pizza is thin with good crust, no flop!
google avatar

Yelp
Great pizza, great pasta, and great service. I've come here a dozen times, and they have consistent high quality food. The first time I came here, I wanted a slice close to closing and they put a pizza in the oven. CHEESE PIZZA: 5/5 PESTO CHICKEN PASTA: 5/5 MEATBALLS: 5/5 RIGATONI: 5/5 Barry, Hannah and staff are fantastic, and anytime I'm craving a perfect slice of pizza or pasta, this is the only place to consider. ambiance: 5/5 food: 5/5 service: 5/5 Florina: 5/5
google avatar

Harry S.

Yelp
Pizza Dee-Lish! Very small, fast, friendly, and talented dive with superb ready-to-eat slices...and a great bench to eat at and watch the State House crowd come and go!

Amber P.

Yelp
Nice price and nicer pizza! Two slices comes w a free drink! The pizza is amazing! Very small spot but perfect t for a quick bite.
google avatar

Yelp
When you walk into Florina it feels like a really cool little slice spot. The lady at the front was really nice. There was a guy making pies in the back. I bought a "slice" which was pretty much two slices. It's thin and crunchy but idk not my favorite tasting crust. The saucy was tangy but not my favorite. The cheese was good and tasty. Not the best pizza I've had but definitely not the worst.
google avatar

Felipe S.

Yelp
Great location, people and food. You could tell it's a great spot by the people coming in and out to order but also getting their to go orders. Variety of Pizzas were on displayed and the slices were a great size. We even ordered slices of pizza with our food orders. I got the Rigatoni meatball and it was delicious and a great portion too. I had a great meal and great time that we even shook hands with one of the guys and thanked him for the great time.
google avatar

Brad G.

Yelp
Small and hot. No restrooms, but a great tasting pizza. Gluten free options but just remember this is not a restaurant, it is a pizza shop and if you don't know the area you will be surprised. We were after a restaurant but stayed and ate at the bar style tables. It does have a few small 2 seat tables, but I would recommend this as a to go style or grab a quick slice place. Again great taste, huge slices but not much of a dining area.
google avatar

Florence K.

Yelp
Average pizza place near me. Came on a weekday and food took awhile for to be prepared. It is also a very small place so don't really recommend to eat here. It's more like a takeaway place
google avatar

Qme L.

Yelp
I've had Florina pizza a couple times now and it's never been a bad experience. Today was the first time I tried their slices. They are super busy around lunch time, so expect a line out the door if you're arrive between 12-1 pm. The wait was about 10-15 minutes but once I ordered it only took a few minutes to get my slice. I tried the pepperoni pizza and it was a bit salty for my liking but oh my goodness, the crust was so thin and crispy. Very affordable for the size of the slice $4.75 as well. Would return to try the other menu items, but likely will try to avoid the lunch rush!
google avatar

Camilo B.

Yelp
The best pizza shop in Boston. I've been coming for years and nothing has disappointed me. Crispy, thin, and high quality ingredients only
google avatar

Annabelle B.

Yelp
Sicilian has a bright tomato sauce, crispy crust, and stays piping hot the whole time! Arancini was the biggest I've ever seen w/ peas and meat in it, all I wish is that it was just a bit crunchier. Super solid overall for just over $12 with tax+tip, definitely felt full after eating everything. Counter seating faces the window, and underneath they have hooks for your bags. Plus super friendly staff, even asked if I wanted a corner or middle slice :)
google avatar

Rongan C.

Yelp
Italians aren't going to like what I have to say but I've had pizza in Florence and Rome that can't even measure up to be a distant cousin of these slices. I mean the sausage arrabiata pizza could save a marriage on its own. We love this spot, we love the non fussy vibe, whoever is on aux got us jamming to our pies whenever we eat in shop.
google avatar

John T.

Yelp
Fantastic pizza. Crispy bread with the right amount of cheese and meats. Did a take out.
google avatar

Ali K.

Yelp
All I have to say is wow! I consider myself a pizza connoisseur and I was very impressed. The sauce was very flavorful, the cheese was the perfect amount, and the consistency was just as it should be. I would highly recommend and will definitely be back. I also had the linguine pesto and that too was amazing. Great place!!!
google avatar

Mimi P.

Yelp
The slices were humongous! But more importantly, the pizza was fantastic!! Florina's is across the street from the Boston State House, so you can imagine how busy this place is. Not being an employee of the State House and just playing a tourist, I was fascinated by the amount of traffic in this cozy pizzeria. I did not try their other menu items, but they have pastas, sandwiches and salads. They all must be good (from the number of patrons). Writing this review makes me want to travel back to Boston for another slice of cheese pizza. Excellent.

A C.

Yelp
Best pizza in the city by far. You get two slices (and each slice is huge! 1/4 slice of a whole pizza) and a free drink. The service is also great. They also have a great selection of stickers at the front where the cashier is which is a nice touch. Recommend!!!
google avatar

Maggie Z.

Yelp
First time trying Florina's after hearing so many good things about their pizza. We did a call in and pick up. It's a small store with minimal maybe 8-10 seats and I saw you could order by the slice also. We had ordered 2 large specialty pizza of chicken pesto and sausage arrabbiata. It was a little cold by the time we got home but not too bad. The FLAVORS on the pizzas were amazing. So much and to start, honestly one of the best I've had in Boston no doubt - that's hard for me to say. The arrabbiata sauce was so good and some parts more spicier than I thought but nothing overwhelming. The one thing I wish that could be improved is the sausage. They are basically thinly sliced and there was not a lot at all but it felt meatless on some slices and very minimal basil also especially for $22. For the chicken pesto, the crust was much thicker than the arrabbiata so I preferred it more but again, not enough pesto because I barely tasted the pesto and more of just cheese. Next time I will probably ask for more pesto sauce. They also give you a pizza card so after 10 pies, you'll get a free cheese pizza which is nice.
google avatar

Lilian Z.

Yelp
Swung by on a Monday afternoon and had what is quite possibly the best pizza of my life! The crust was thin and crispy and the tomato sauce was so flavorful. The slice is huge (nearly 1/4 of a large pizza) and was served piping hot. Service was welcoming, prices were more than fair, and the restaurant was clean - what else is there to ask for? I can't wait to come back and try more of the menu!
google avatar

Bobby L.

Yelp
BEST PIZZA I HAVE EVER HAD. No need to waste time on this review. If you're in Boston, you need to go. Portnoy gave it an 8.2, so the hype is real. My best friend and girl were with me and had been here last year. They raved about it and said they would wait for me to try it. It's a little hole in the wall that serves pizza by the slice, and they heat it up when you order. The service is one guy taking orders while on the phone taking orders. It's wild, but this place pushes out mass orders of food. Cheese Pizza Slice: 9.9 Rocket Tuna Salad: 9.1 Scale system 10/10 would be what I want for my last meal 9.9-9.3 driving out of my way to get this 9.2-8.0 like the place and would go back 7.9-7.0 I would come here again if it were presented and don't have anything bad to say 6.9 and below - thanks but no thanks after try one
google avatar

ZOHAIB M.

Yelp
I've heard really good things about this pizza spot. I was recently on vacation from work, so I made the drive out from NYC to Florina & I'm glad I did. The pizza is thin & crispy with a nice small hint of char. I had the regular slice & Sicilian. I didn't like the sicilian. Sauce tasted different on it & the dough wasn't as good on it as the one compared to the regular slices. Street parking here is a nightmare so you're going to have to pay & park your car in a garage somewhere around the area. There's a few parking garages around here. While you're here, walk around & take in the views from Boston Common Park. It's serene & beautiful. What a charming little town Boston is . Can't wait to come back.
google avatar

Meredith G.

Yelp
Meatballs made me really sad - underseasoned and the tomato sauce was so thin and watery. They were however a good size for the price!
google avatar

Amber C.

Yelp
Cute little pizza shop and very very Italian!! Love it. I was first introduced to them after they won the Boston Pizza Festival competition and their pizza by far was the winner to me. Just the quality of ingredients and depth of flavors was on a different level. So when I checked out their shop at another time, I also really enjoyed their pizzas, but felt their selection/range wasn't as creative as the ones they presented at the Boston Pizza Festival, but nonetheless still really great!! I got a pizza to take home, but when I got home the cold version of the pizza was not as good as the fresh one, so would definitely recommend either eating there or reheating immediately when you get them home for the maximal effect. Not a lot of parking near the place, so a bit difficult to get to
google avatar

Paige N.

Yelp
Very solid pizzeria. I appreciate that a single slice is 1/4 of a whole pizza. You must try a Sicilian slice and a classic slice, both are super good. Good service too and fair prices. Great ambiance inside! If I lived in Boston this would probably be a go-to for me. Loved it!
google avatar

Adina S.

Yelp
As a native New Jersey girl, I can tell you that this place is legit! I've tried a few pizza places in Boston and I've been consistently disappointed, so I was ready to give up. Fear not, Florina is here to save the day! We came during the lunch rush, so it took them a bit of time to make the pie, but it was certainly worthwhile. It seemed like a lot of people were coming to grab and go, as the seating wasn't extensive. That being said, the pizza tasted very fresh and was perfectly hot. I was especially impressed by the sauce, which had the right amount of sweetness. The cheese had just the right pull and the crust was beautifully crunchy. I'm almost ashamed that I hadn't been here sooner. Now I know where to go when I have my pizza craving, especially if I just want a slice. Can't recommend more!

Ron D.

Yelp
ok not great. a bit over rated in my book crowded and unconfortable seating if you can get a seat at all.
google avatar

Audrey M.

Yelp
Got a whole pep pizza and throughly enjoyed it! Reflecting back should have just gotten two slices each. Dave Portnot has visited and rated an 8.2.
google avatar

Teresa B.

Yelp
Yum, yum, yum! We just wanted a nice slice of pizza. Arrived just as they were taking a fresh white margarita pizza out of the oven. We all grabbed a slice. Absolutely delicious! Service was awesome. Don't know if it was the owner or manager who came over to check in with us to make sure everything was good. Would absolutely go back again.

Aly S.

Yelp
Amazing service! New favorite quick pizza and pasta shop. Clean spot and the owner is so kind and food comes out quick. Got the pizza and pesto linguini. Pizza was thin yet massive (like three slices) for $3.75 and the linguini was perfectly parmesany- a huge portion for less than $15. They aren't open on the weekends.
google avatar

Savannah H.

Yelp
Ordered a pizza for the office. Usually we get somewhere else but I wanted to try something new. We haven't looked back! It's been Florina only now!! The pepperoni was so good! Very good ratio of cheese sauce and crust. Crowded but fast and nice inside which just means everyone agrees it's a good lunch!!
google avatar

Lara D.

Yelp
Rice ball and pizza were good, but could have been warmer. Had extensive menu on the side walls and well as printed. Young lady taking our order did not ask if we wanted something to drink.

H L.

Yelp
Came in today after the parade! Has been on my wishlist and pizza was amazing! Staff was very nice too! Pretty reasonable pricing too especially in Beacon Hill. Def recommend !!

P M.

Yelp
Really enjoyed the slices...great dough. Look forward to order in a fresh pie next time.

Yelp
Seriously some of the best pizza I've had on MA. Sadly no picture though because I ate it too fast. Got to try the Sausage Arrabbiata (and added pepperoni which I highly recommend) pizza and the Short Rib Pappardelle - both were just incredible. The pizza was really thin, crispy, flavorful and hit all notes of what I'd expect a delicious pizza to have. The short rib pappardelle too was just fantastic, again super flavorful and unctuous pieces of short rib. Nothing else to add besides come if you want GREAT pizza pappardelle. Also really appreciated how quaint and neighborhood-y this place was too. A few tables to eat at or get some slices to go. Would 11/10 come back and try other items.

Yelp
This place is definitely a hidden gem that is easy to miss! Moving from New York, I have been searching for a solid pizza place in Boston for a while. This place flew under my radar until I tried them at the Boston Pizza Festival. They won the people's favorite award several years and when you try the pizza it makes sense! Food: fantastic thin-crust pizza with great sauce and toppings. I always go for either the sausage arrabbiata for a spicy red sauce or the st. barth for a creamy white sauce. Location: almost a corner store behind the state house right off Boston Commons. Street is narrow with no parking so would recommend coming by foot. Inside, there are maybe 10 seats, more of a grab-and-go pizzaria. Overall, my current favorite pizza spot in Boston and holds up to NYC classics like Artichoke and Prince Street!
