Flour Bakery + Cafe

Disappointing at best. We came at open, 8 am. We ordered a medium coffee & a medium iced vanilla latte, a cinnamon roll, a vanilla filled donut and a chocolate croissant to go. We sat and watched people that ordered after us come and go with their food. We didn’t even order anything that wasn’t prepared. After almost 15 minutes I went back up to the counter to wait. We received the iced coffee and two of the pastries. I had to ask for the black medium coffee and the cinnamon roll. Maybe bc I asked for it to go they didn’t heat the cinnamon roll, but they didn’t offer either. They didn’t provide any cutlery, we had to go back in and ask for it. The coffee was extremely bitter and acidic. We are not coffee snobs and frequent many coffee shops often but this was the worst coffee by far we’ve ever had. The cashier did apologize for the wait, but I’m confused why everything was so disorganized. There didn’t seem to be a system with the employees as to who was doing what. I also didn’t see a manager or a shift supervisor that was trying to delegate responsibilities to get the line moving faster. It was all very inefficient. I bought the FLOUR cookbook years ago and made many of her recipes so this was a very disappointing experience.

Yeah so, I guess there’s hype around this place? I saw the five stars, when I arrived there was a line. I ordered the apple cinnamon pop tart and a chai latte. The wait was around 10 minutes (because they were busy). Ok, the longer you wait expectations grow accordingly. Finally got my order, sat outside. The chai was hot, the pop tart warm. It was okay, to be honest it felt like a flat less flaky apple turnover I could have had from Acme bakery in San Francisco back home…but very underwhelming. But at least the chai was good…until I hit the last few sips. Grit. Ewwh, who tastes crunchy grit at the end of a chai tea latte?! Disappointed, and as I write this review the food star just dropped one. Upside, they were at least dog friendly and had outdoor seating

We have appointment at MGH often where we stay at the Wyndham Hotel. It is SO convenient to go next door to Flour for a breakfast egg sandwich. If the line is long the kiosk works great for a short order.

Wow! Silas at the counter was so helpful! I had many questions, and he answered them all with patience, a smile, and a comprehensive knowledge of the menu. Esteban was making our coffees as soon as we ordered them, and everything was perfect! We had 2 coffees, a hot chocolate, one avocado toast, a bowl of soup, a chicken tika masala sandwhich, and a slice of coffee cake. Visiting from out of town, but I wish I'd found it earlier and eaten a meal (or two) every day of my stay. A real gem of a place. NOT just pastry (though that's awesome), or coffee (but, man, tge quality of tgeir hot beverages), but a fantastic savory menu!

Stopped in for a quick lunch & we were really delighted by the menu! There were some great options, and using the kiosk for our order made it seamless (and made it easy to make a small modification to one of the dishes we chose). Seating areas were tight, but that's to be expected for a popular spot mid-afternoon. All in all, a great experience, would definitely dine there again.

I absolutely love this place! The food is amazing and changes seasonally so it never gets boring. The service is always very friendly and accommodating. My husband spent 10 weeks at Mass General Hospital and Flour Bakery and Café was my go to place when I needed a decent meal or a snack. It’s an easy walk from the hospital and always delicious food. I wish they would open one in Newton!

Tried their pumpkin spice latte and it was okay! Not bad but I think flour is much better with their food menu items. Loved the seating and location!

There is a reason why there is always a line at Flour. I think this might've been the best egg sandwich I've ever had. These fine folks know how to make a sandwich whether it's for breakfast or lunch. Super fresh ingredients with just the right portions and seasonings. They do have an app so that you can order ahead - which I recommend. You can choose the line to place an order with an actual human being or there are digital kiosks for ordering. Seating is limited, but there is space upstairs with additional tables available.

A decent cafe for sandwiches and pastries near MGH. They only have one cashier to take orders, so sometimes lines go out the door around breakfast time, but wait time for ordering and getting your order are usually within ten minutes each. Their breakfast egg sandwich is unique with a spongy egg filling and tangy dijon flavor. Their famed sticky bun with heat has a smoky, meaty flavor. Personally, the flavors aren't my favorite, but they are definitely well thought out and unique. The prices are reasonable for the area, and the ingredients are fresh. I have only gotten orders to-go, but there is an upstairs seating area for dine-in as well.

Look out Boston, there's a new Flour in town! I'm still closer a bit to the first storefront out in the Seaport area, but options are good! I know Flour's sticky buns are well touted, but I hadn't had it in a while. I ran my treats through the toaster oven, and both the sticky bun and their almond croissant were glorious!

Great spot to grab a morning coffee, light breakfast, and people watch. This two story bakery offered great morning parties as well as some breakfast options. Window counter seats, tables, and outside patio seating gives everyone a place to sit. Excellent coffee and muffins. If you get the breakfast sandwich consider asking for the sauce dressing on the side.

Egg sandwich: great portion and taste. Really enjoyed the spongy egg with avocado and fresh tomato Why I gave three stars: I ordered large latte and as you can see from the color, it's very diluted. Large size means proportional amount of espresso shot, but seems like they just poured water and milk instead of coffee which tasted like coffee hinted water. Also when they were handing out the drink, it was spilling everywhere before I even grabbed it. I know it was busy (11am-12pm) but would be nice if staff members can be more considerate on these parts

Conveniently located near the entrance to Mass General Hospital, we stopped in for a late breakfast before an appointment. While the displayed sweet treats and breakfast pastries looked tempting, we opted for the savory Applewood-smoked bacon sandwich. Basically a spin on a BLT, with peppery arugula as a substitute for traditional lettuce. You order at the counter, take a number, and a staff member brings you your food once it's ready. We didn't wait long, and certainly enjoyed Flour's version of a classic BLT sandwich ($13.75).

We came here spontaneously for brunch because the popular spot next door had a line out the door. So glad we stumbled upon this spot! Ambiance is super cute - we sat at a bar facing the windows and got plenty of sunlight. The restaurant was bustling, but service was pretty quick and friendly. We tried the baked french toast, which was dense and satisfying and delicious. If you don't normally enjoy french toast like me, I highly recommend giving this a try! I also got a london fog to sip on, and it was pretty standard earl grey tea bag + milk, nothing fancy. We also got a grilled cuban style sandwich and a layered cakr slice which I don't see on the menu, maybe it was seasonal. Overall, we were really content with our food and had a lovely brunch here on a Sunday afternoon. Come here if the friendly toast is busy - or even if it's not!

Visited on behalf of a local recommendation. We arrived right before closing and the case was still pretty well stocked. I ordered the sticky bun and banana oudding sticky bun. The traditional sticky bun we best with almost a praline pecan topped cake donut vibe. My taste critique is I prefer the cake had some more moisture, maybe cream or a honey incorporated in it. The bakery itself is cute with plenty of seating. You can order at the counter or from their digital kiosk

Came here to do work on Friday afternoon, and it was quite packed! There's a decent amount of seating with there being an upstairs and downstairs area. Good place to do work! Their food is always great, tried their breakfast sandwich and coconut cream pie for the first time and it was great! Their coffee is personally not my favorite but it gets the job done.

Really good eats here! The broccoli cheddar soup was pretty salty but very flavorful and Hearty. The sticky bun was great- fluffy soft bread and plenty of pecans. Also very much enjoyed trying the half sizes of the mushroom melt sandwich, the Butternut Squash sandwich, and the achiote chicken sandwich. The raspberry oat bar was nice too, and the carrot cake was very moist and with a lot of cream cheese frosting that wasn't overly sweet. There are seating areas downstairs and upstairs which include bar seats and benches and regular chairs, as well as an elevator to the second floor. The staff were very professional and friendly and we saw them help visually impared customers with great courtesy. The only thing I would skip is the chai latte- it tasted pretty bland.

For the 2 1/2 years I lived in Boston, I repeatedly drove and walked by this restaurant. It wasn't until I moved out of Boston did I finally pay this place a visit. I wish I had done so much sooner, as Flour Bakery + Cafe is a solid choice for cafe food! Upon arriving, the cafe was packed. Despite this, the service was still quite fast. I received my food and latte well within 5 minutes of placing my order at the counter. I ordered the avocado toast, and this was perhaps the best avocado toast I've ever consumed. Not only was the toast loaded with avocado, but it was adorned with two large chunks of salmon and a perfectly poached egg.

This corner bakery was perfect for our breakfast before leaving town. Convenient to the Wyndham Beacon Hill hotel, I wanted to order more sweet treats besides my frosted strawberry cinnamon roll and my warmed sticky bun. I enjoyed my vanilla latte too. What a nice pleasant stop for coffee and fresh baked goods at the window seating with friends or family and people watching.

I was traveling through Boston and this was a must try on my list. I ordered the chicken tikki masala wrap and it was the best thing I ate on my trip! The wrap was fresh, the meat was perfectly cooked and the spices were spot on. Additionally, I went in about 20 minutes before they closed and the service was still amazing! I'm sad that I waited until my last day in Boston to try this place!

Flour Bakery was recommended by my friend who is a trusted foodie :) wasn't surprised to see a long line when we got inside, but it went by really quickly and was fairly clean inside with lots of natural lighting from glass walls. We ordered the Cubano, Avocado toast, and beef & barley soup. The cubano was super yummy and had mojo pulled pork, ben's hot mustard, boggy meadow swiss, ham, pickles, on focaccia. My mom got the avocado toast which had poached egg, pickled fresno chili, cotija cheese, salsa verde, cilantro on multigrain toast. The beef & barley soup hit the spot, and we couldn't finish the sandwiches because they were huge (esp the cubano - have to split). Service was quick despite being a busy day and though we waited a few minutes to get seated, everything felt quick and efficient! :)

I had seen this bakery I had seen many times on the Food Network. There was only one thing I wanted, their sticky bun. It was served warm and gooey, with loads of chopped pecans on top. I don't eat many pastries nowadays, but this place knows how to make them. I also had a cup of chai to warm me up, a little on the milky side as opposed to the spiced side, but still very satisfying. Since I wasn't feeling well, I bit the bullet and took a bottle of their veggie juice, which wound up being my appetizer while I waited for the sticky bun and chai. Very flavorful blend, and it was funny that after I drank it, I didn't feel sick the rest of the day. I'm not suggesting magical healing powers, but I did feel much better afterwards. I took a seat upstairs against the window, which looked down on the busyness of the city. A very nice place to sort of get away from the rush for a minute. Oh, and to use the restroom, you have to ask them for a code. Might want to do that ahead of time.

A favorite catered lunch at the office by all my coworkers! The menu is amazing. Ordering via email or the website is simple. They always are willing to make changes a few days beforehand. The best salad is the chopped Greek... the green goddess dressing is amazing! My new favorite sandwich is the mozzarella...the grilled bread is so tasty! The pesto is without nuts too! Also, they are always willing to do a separate platter of gluten free sandwiches. FLOUR IS THE BEST!

Ambience, service amd food were all great! Will definitely be returning here to try something else new.

For a simple ham and cheese croissant, this thing is next level. So great, wish I could eat one of these things every day!

My go-to sandwich here is the applewood smoked bacon sandwich, their version of BLT with arugula (I love arugula). Crispy toasted bread, thick bacon, fresh tomatoes. Delicious, rich, satisfying. I also tried the Boston crème pie, also delicious. The cake layers are lighter and fluffier than I thought they'd be. Overall very enjoyable. One drink I wouldn't necessarily recommend is the matcha latte. It just tasted a bit watered down IMHO. But if you're not into strong matcha, it might be for you!

This outpost of Flour Bakery has seating upstairs and on ground level, with options to order either at the counter/bakery case or through a digital kiosk. The line moves briskly, and there's a lovely selection of baked goods on display that'll leave you utterly unable to choose from among all the sweet and savory treats. I've made many things from owner/chef Joanne Chang's Flour Bakery cookbook, and the Chunky Lola cookie is more magical from the shop than made at home (but still a terrific recipe to make yourself if you, like me, live nowhere close to Boston)!

This place has so many amazing choices! We had to be in Boston for about 30 hours. I came to this bakery 3 times! I would highly recommend the sticky sticky bun and the ginger molasses cookie! We also enjoyed the poptart, coconut cream pie, coconut cake and the sugar brioche bun. I wish I had time to try more items. There are many locations in Boston. I can't wait to stop in again. Thank you!

I used to like this place. This morning they gave me a broken container that cut my finger, and a terribly made espresso drink. If you go and see a gentleman barista with dark hair and glasses leave. Then he will remake the drink half full out of spite and continue to tell you that you are wrong about how it usually comes out. Coffee making is literally a chemistry equation. The espresso drinks should come out identically regardless who is making it. I won't patronize a place if I need to be concerned with who is making the coffee drinks that day.

Flour is one of my go to cafes to get a little bit of studying done and grab a delicious bite. I do not lie when I say my favorite sandwich I've ever had is their roast beef sandwich. It is delicious and I highly highly recommend. They have wifi, indoor seating, outdoor seating and outlets scattered here and there. One thing to note is they seem to blast their AC at least upstairs because I need to be wearing a long sleeve and a jacket to feel comfortable if I'm staying for a while.

After living in Boston for five years, I finally made it to Flour for the first time on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. Unfortunately, I was slightly underwhelmed. It was super busy, but we managed to find a small table upstairs. The kitchen was out of a few menu options, which was disappointing. My friend and I shared the roasted sweet potato sandwich and the artichoke chicken sandwich. Both of them were just okay; a little expensive for the amount and quality of the food. We also shared a sticky bun. The nut topping was great; I could have eaten a whole bowl of it. If I went back, I would just go for the pastries. There were so many to choose from and they all looked incredible. The hot food menu isn't worth it for the price and if half the items aren't in stock.

To the point Service: staff anticipated order and had it ready, served at my table outside. (Kinda noisy street in the AM, but it's Boston baby) Cleanliness: The outside area was clean, seating arrangement simple and ample. Food: I went ham (pun intended) with a ham and cheese croissant and a cinnamon roll. The ham and cheese croissant is always harder to bake perfectly because of the juices in the ham...they usually mess up the buttery layers of pastry You start to see the under cooked pastry...while this did happen (as expected) it was still a very good bite. There was a subtle heat to the dish that was very next level. It was a familiar profile although I can't seem to place the flavor...(middle eastern perhaps...but for purposes of this review I will never update and or find out what that was...but it was delicious). It was cooked as well as this pastry could be, buttery, flakey, the cheese was melted into the pastry and the ham bits were substantial. The c-roll!! I always believe that no one can touch my mothers cinnamon rolls, but I got it anyway to spite myself! Cinnamon roll was perfect! I would have thought they would heat it up, but For this specific cinnamon roll...I would never! It was not crunchy at all, but soft...still maintaining its breast integrity...yes I meant bread integrity, but breast integrity is now a thing! I knew by the look of it...it was covered by a glaze of some sort...not the ultra sugar rush you would get from moms, but a lightly sugared glaze that simply paired well with the appropriately sugared cinnamon roll. In the end I would have hated myself for not getting a second item to eat, because while it was a very tasty cinnamon roll...it was small and not very hearty. I think this was done on purpose and I super appreciate it, because I really didn't want to be full after eating it...so I could then destroy the croissant. Coffee: 2 shots for a small americano...it was perfect with cream. Full fat breakfast for the win! Get you some! Definition: Breast integrity- something that holds up although you wouldn't think it could. (There is definitely another word for that, but I'd like Webster be the judge)

I'm a bit of an embarrassment. I went in one day and removed the lid to try the coffee then put it back on but not all the way and let my friend try it so we spilled coffee on his shirt and all over the floor. Don't worry, we cleaned it up ourselves because we are honorable individuals. My friend also had a change of shirt in the hotel in the same building. We went to the lakers/celtics game and then went out after for quite a few drinks. I grabbed another coffee back at this joint, recovering from a hangover, and tripped on the way up the stairs while I was trying to check out the upper floor and spilled a little more coffee (in picture, not as bad as the day prior). Through all the shenanigans, the staff just kept on plugging, not paying any mind to the silliness of my friends and I. I respect them for this. The espresso drinks and the almond croissants were also outstanding. This place deserves nothing less than top score from me.

I love a good blondie but make it with brown butter and it's really heavenly. So good I went back for one again the next day The chocolate cookie was soft, rich and delicious I also got a raspberry pop tart for my husband and he said it was ok There were so many beautiful things in the bakery, I'll be back!

Quick and delicious! My sister and I were in town for the weekend, we're both vegetarians, and they had plenty of options for us! I ordered the fresh mozzarella sandwich and it was outstanding! The cherry pepper crema was the icing on the cake. We didn't order any of their sweets, but they were tempting!

I can see why flour has so many store across Boston. It is a no frills cafe that serves up amazing pastries! My all time favorite is their pumpkin pie but that is only available around thanksgiving. In general you can't go wrong with any of their pastries. I typically get a box of 6 assorted. My husband and I nibble at it during the week, making every AM wake up that much more enjoyable. Their sandwiches are ok, sometimes dry, sometimes too moist. My go to that is consistently good is the mushroom grilled cheese and their spicy tomato soup. The staff at this location is super super nice and helpful. I love stopping in here!

Solid stop for coffee, breakfast, lunch or really any time of day. Some seating on street level and I think an upstairs as well (although I didn't check upstairs). Enjoyed sipping my coffee and eating at the "bar" facing the street especially on this sunny day! Place was busy and definitely lots of take out / delivering happening! Pop on in and check it out and as they say "All you knead is love."

I work close by so I stop here sometimes for lunch. They have an app that allows for easy ordering and rewards for frequent trips. Their sandwiches are always delicious. I've tried the chicken masala naan, the mushroom melt, and the chicken achiote. If the soup of the day is chicken tortilla soup - definitely get it! Soo good. Also their banana bread is amazing. This location is always busy so ordering ahead is a must. Would recommend the food, but probably not the coffee. Their espresso isn't very good, tried the flat white twice and didn't taste right both times. Also would not recommend the matcha latte.. overall, get the food and pastries, skip the drinks!

Asian woman owned bakery with the richest and most decadent sweets + savory bakery items Loved this spot ever since my suitemate from college took me - they have a huge selection and always delicious, whatever you get This time around, I was craving a chocolate croissant . As you can see, the chocolate was super rich and filled to the brim . Got them to heat it up on the spot so that the chocolate was nice and melty and outside really crispy I'd say it's a bit less flaky but more on the "melt in your mouth" spectrum. Make sure to take some time to sit in the coffee shop and try everything. They have hot / made to order items too @midwestmunching on Instagram for more!

I'm a bakery man. I find a bakery, and I indulge. That's exactly what I did today. I went in, eager for a tea. You know what I got? Spectacular service. A tea. And even French toast. I don't like French toast, but it looked really good. Thought you should know that. The cashier, Anna, was very kind. She dealt with my indecisiveness with a smile, and led me towards a scrumptious snack. There are a lot of Flours. This one, though. I'm proud to call this one mine. FLOUR FOREVER.

I've always gone to flour for their sticky buns, which are truly my favorite dessert in Boston. However, I had never tried any of their sandwiches but after this past weekend I think this is one of my new favorites. I got the mushroom melt which was like an elevated grilled cheese with mushrooms and Gruyère cheese. It was the perfect amount of cheese and salt and it was hard not to order another one. My boyfriend got the chicken tikka masala naan which he said was one of the best chicken tikka masalas he's had in Boston! It came with a lot of tamarind sauce which added that perfect bite of tang and sweetness.

My family and I stayed at the hotel right next door to Flour Bakery & Cafe and were looking for a place for breakfast. We figured... why not this place?! Thanks Yelp for the rec! We ordered a few different items to try... * Egg sandwich - absolutely delicious! The egg was very fluffy and the entire sandwich had great flavor * Italian sandwich - so yummy! * Quiche - egg was also fluffy and seasoned well We also had some coffee and latte and it ended up being a great breakfast. There were a lot of locals enjoying their breakfast here too, so I would definitely recommend!

This bakery location just recently opened close to my work. Pastries and sandwiches are really good in here. I think the prices are a little bit on the higher scale but if you don't mind spending it on good food I think you should go for it! I go here once in a while and I've had a few things ordered already. So far, I love the tuna salad with citrus and sandwiches. So far, I've got the mushroom and the Reuben and they came out really good. I've had the while mocha latte (it was alright, it tasted too much coffee for me) I'm not really too much of a coffee drinker so probably that's why. Also! The salmon chowder is die for. I've been ordering it every time I'm going to lunch and I'm not too hungry. Would recommend this place and I'm sure you'll love all the variety of pastries they have.

Definitely my go-to for quick lunches and afternoon snacks. My two favorite sandwiches are definitely the applewood smoked bacon and the chicken tikka masala naan. I absolutely love the sun dried tomato aioli combined with the bacon and the focaccia bread compliments it perfectly. The chicken tikka masala naan is much heavier so very good if you're looking for a heavier meal. The cucumbers help balance out the richness of the sauce and the paneer cheese is a wonderful addition. My go-to snacks are definitely the sticky bun (you have to get it heated up!) and the banana bread. The sticky bun is such a treat if you're looking to perk up your day with a bundle of sweetness. The banana bread is more lowkey, not too sweet, very moist, and delicious. Definitely get the Flour app to collect rewards if you're a frequent Flour visitor like me!

I first discovered flour while attending a conference in Boston in 2018. I was so obsessed with their simple, yet excellently done sandwiches and pastries, that I went 3 days in a row! We now have 2 Flour dessert cookbooks at home, and their recipes are our favorites. I recently went back to Boston and of course managed multiple trips to Flour. Everything was fantastic and the service was always friendly! It was perfect wether during our visit and we enjoying the outdoor dining spaces. We have yet to order something off the menu we didn't like, but our current favorites are: Breakfast: Egg Sandwich, Granola & Berry Parfait, Cold Brew Lunch: Chicken and Broccoli Rabe Panini, Roast Beef Sandwich Pastries: Double chocolate cookie, chocolate cupcake, brown butter rice crispy treat. I typically only eat chocolate based desserts, so the rice crispy treats are a shocking departure. I've also tried bites of the cinnamon roll and chocolate brownie, I think they are so rich they need to be shared!

Great cafe, very busy on Sunday mornings. The staff was extremely friendly. We wanted to order all of the treats on display but ended up ordering the achiote chicken sandwich, quiche of the day and a croissant. The croissant was perfectly fluffy, warm and buttery. The Achiote sandwich was a little disappointing, it was very bland and could have used a lot more seasoning. We had order the mushroom spinach fontina quiche but after devouring the quiche we realized we had been given the bacon, caramelized onion and goat cheese quiche. We were okay with the mix up because what we got was so delicious and it was definitely the highlight of the meal. All of the tables were filled when we arrived, but after waiting around for five minutes or so we were able to get one. Would recommend ordering to go from here.

Another great location of Flour! I absolutely LOVE their lemon cupcake with strawberry frosting. The frosting is just so light and marshmallow-y and fluffy and the cupcake is not too sweet and super lemon-y. This location has a lot of seating and a pretty high ceiling.

Only came here for the Boston Cream Pie as I saw on several lists that this is one of the better ones. Definitely worth the hype. Boston Cream Pie: custard layered in cake with chocolate frosting. Not too sweet and was pretty light so the big piece you get seems perfect and not heavy. The cost is about $7 after tax+tip. Service and ambience: very friendly and helpful. That's been my experience with another location as well. Beautifully decorated inside and plenty of seating inside and out. Also love that they always provide water. COVID precaution: wearing masks, and sanitizer next to door.

This location was packed on Saturday at 1pm, but I knew I was willing to brave the semi-long ordering line when I saw their display filled with yummy pastries, desserts, and breads. I especially wanted to snag the famed sticky bun. If you're not one to wait, online ordering is available through their app. The line moved quickly as there were many staff available, and I was especially struck by how friendly the employees were. My total came out to $11.77 including tax ($5 sticky bun, $6 pie slice). Food: Their pastries seems a little pricey, but they are soooo good and well worth the price! The sticky bun is (rightfully) sweet, perfectly paired with a cup of cold coffee. I got it to-go and microwaved it for 30 seconds, and it was perfectly soft like a cinnamon roll. It definitely reminded me of pecan pie... but in bun form lol. I also REALLY liked the coconut cream pie-- not too sweet, but had the perfect taste of custard and sweet coconut blended together. The crust really brought the pie together as well, and I kind of want their recipe. Next time, I'll have to try out their sandwiches. Interior: There were small tables available for seating, but I believe there is also a second floor with more tables.
