"Flour + Water's casual operation in the Mission is where you can get salads, pastas, and sauces to take home. But leaving without trying their Calabrian fried chicken sandwich is practically sacrilegious. What sets theirs apart, aside from perfectly fried chicken, is the sesame hoagie roll. Sandwiches are topped with a swath of chili aioli, slaw, and pickled banana peppers. "San Francisco “Pre-pandemic, you had to plan weeks ahead to get a table at Flour + Water, home of SF’s best pasta. But after the shutdown closed their dining room, they started offering DIY meal kits out of a separate location in the Mission, giving people the chance to replicate their excellent pasta dishes - like corn and crescenza cappelletti or agnolotti dal plin - at home for the first time ever. The pasta shop has now fully embraced the fast-casual model, adding some fantastic sandwiches and salads to the menu as well. "During the pandemic, Flour + Water opened up this takeout-focused pasta, provisions, and sandwich shop in the Mission - which also happens to be a great place to meet someone for a quick, casual lunch. They have tables set up out front, so you can grab a Calabrian fried chicken hoagie or cheese plate and enjoy it with a spritz or glass of natural wine. "You know about Flour + Water, the Cal-Ital pasta legend in the Mission. In recent years, they’ve birthed an arsenal of spin-offs, including Penny Roma down the street and Flour + Water Pizzeria in North Beach. The least splashy—though still great—of the bunch is Flour + Water Pasta Shop. Even though all of the pasta for the restaurants is made in this shop by hand, the actual food menu here revolves around sandwiches and salads, which you can take to go or eat in the Penny Roma courtyard next door. One of my favorite SF spots for a meal kit is Flour + Water Pasta Shop. The casual spin-off of Flour + Water (a top-tier restaurant for date night) features occasionally-changing pasta kits that are perfect for a romantic at-home dinner.
