Flower Child Review - North Austin - Austin - The Infatuation

"Flower Child is owned by the same people as True Food Kitchen, and you’ll find the same colorful, Instagrammy vibe at this Rock Rose spot. But this place is a little more laid-back - it’s order at the counter, the prices are a little lower, and you’ll want to use it for a daytime meal over a dinner out on the town." - Marisa Dunn

"“Hippie food” is a compliment at this recently opened West End cafeteria favored by George Washington University students and the Foggy Bottom lunch crowd. Flower Child’s food is vegetarian and vegan friendly. The national chain’s menu focuses on casual, produce-filled dishes like the Mother Earth ancient grain bowl and vegan ramen."

Google
This was our first visit to the restaurant, and we found that the food and service exceeded our expectations. While the portion sizes were not overly large, all of the ingredients were fresh and tasty. We had the forbidden rice bowl with shrimp ($18.70), the Brussel sprouts & kale ($10.45), the chilled sesame noodles ($5.75), and the avocado hummus ($8.25). Drinks were $3.99 each. While we ate in, it appears that the restaurant does a very busy take-out business.

This place is such a gem! The outdoor patio is super cute with its bright green and yellow chairs, and the flower boxes add a nice touch while you’re chilling with a view of the trees and parked cars. Inside, it’s got this fun, laid-back vibe—there’s a colorful mural that says “Live More, Worry Less,” and the yellow chevron wall is totally Instagram-worthy. The menu’s packed with fresh, healthy stuff like salads, bowls, and wraps—I’m obsessed with the Glow Bowl and Avocado Caesar Salad! They’ve also got small plates and entrees for everyone, plus a chocolate chip cookie for dessert that’s calling my name. The staff are so nice, and the whole spot feels modern but cozy with the exposed ducts and natural light. It’s the kind of place you’d hit up for a quick, feel-good bite with friends. It’s also made me want to hang my arts here as an artist. Love it!

Google
I had previously ordered from a flower child location, and found the quality to be subpar. However, I decided to give this location a try in case the experience would be better. The menu seemed cheaper on Google maps, and I wanted something nutrient dense with protein. I had to wait about half an hour for the food, which i didn’t expect would take so long for a bowl. I had ordered two items because they were cheaper on the online menu, but the worker didn’t tell me how much my items were when I ordered over the phone. I ordered the Mother Earth bowl + gluten free Mac and cheese, tofu, and corn with quinoa). Upon opening the boxes, I see that despite the increase price, nothing looks fresh and the containers aren’t full. I couldn’t even finish the kids bowl because it was very gross and cold. The Mother Earth bowl was also very disappointing. Everything tasted gross. The worst part is, I woke up the next day with food poisoning. This is the first time I’ve dealt with that in the US. It affected my whole day. I’d strongly advise others not to come here.

Google
Normally never post reviews, but this place warrants one for sure! Peruvian beef and rice cooked to perfection, the scenery is fantastic, 10/10 service no complaints. Had to come back the next day to try their salmon and mac & cheese, this has become my favorite dish. This has really become a hidden gem, I’m going to keep coming back until I try everything. We often eat with our eyes, the plating and presentation was done beautifully. I can also fully appreciate the cleanliness. 10/10 would recommend 10/10 will come back again

Google
We were really disappointed with our visit to the Bethesda location. We’re frequent customers and huge fans of this restaurant—especially at the Tysons location, where the food is always great. Unfortunately, this experience didn’t live up to our expectations. We ordered The Rebel Wrap, which has clearly been changed. The new version lacked flavor and didn’t taste good at all. The salad that came with it had no dressing, which made it very dry and unappetizing. We also ordered the mac and cheese, and it tasted like plain water—completely bland. The only positive thing we can highlight was the service. The staff was kind and attentive throughout our meal. We really hope this was just a one-time issue, because we truly love this place. But sadly, the food at the Bethesda location was not up to standard.

Google
Really great customer service! Becks (sp?) is so so sweet. I def recommend the plates with the meat and the sides. I would stay away from the the wraps personally, the French dip one esp that was horrible, but the sides esp the mashed potatoes are so so good!!

Google
This place is AMAZING! The steak was cooked to perfection; the Mac and cheese was exquisite; and the sweet potato fries were so good I had to fight my kids to stop eating mine. I loved looking at the cook staff and seeing all of the smiles on their faces. The whole place is just lovely. And everything if GLUTEN FREE! I was in heaven. I'm so glad we stopped here.

Google
I really liked the mac n cheese with salmon. So much so that I can't wait to go back and have it again. One area for improvement. My friend and I arrived at this location at 8:11pm, it closes at 9pm. We bought self serve iced tea, chose our table and got served fairly quickly. My friend went back at 8:35pm to refill his iced tea and realized that the staff had already packed it away for closing. Was a bummer because there was still time to close. I understand the staff wanting to start closing since it was almost 9. But wish we could've gotten refills.

Yelp
I live in Denver and was visiting a friend. She highly recommended this spot for dinner and I can see why. The food is fresh, unique and full of flavor. Flower Child is just different from the run of the mill fast casual restaurant We shared the hummus with veggies and pita. It had avocado in it. So smooth and flavorful. Then we both got the salmon and cauliflower risotto. Wow it was so filling.. I also had the mac and cheese, but couldn't tell it was gluten free. It was so tasty. You can chose from a lot of sides here and I thought the concept was 10/10. Come to Denver Flower Child!

Yelp
The Wildwood location in Bethesda is my favorite place to eat. The people are friendly and happy and the food is healthy and delicious. Cheerful and light-filled place to eat. Brooke is an asset to the restaurant with her cheerful and attentive attitude. But honestly everyone is enjoying their time helping and providing customer service . The menu does change but there are fixed staples that you can count on. Try the desserts and starters as well. You will be pleasantly surprised. Wide assortment of drinks! It is a great place to meet with friends and family or colleagues anytime. I highly recommend this restaurant for food and/or drinks and snacks anytime. Take out and parking is always available.

Yelp
It's like a cafeteria that was deadd car packed with families and friends. We went to the counter to order, food was brought to our table when ready. It was crowded with customers and many of them were families. Very healthy and tasty food. Every dish was great! We ordered 4*Avocado Caesar salad:per normal 4*Salmon with kale and cauliflower risotto: unique combo, healthy and tasty 5*Tofu with Kung Pow cauliflower and Kale: a bit spicy taste, very flavorful 4*Kebab with side dishes:

Yelp
Healthy food in a friendly and inviting space with fair prices - and it tastes good! The salmon was great - and the sides of butternut squash and brussel sprouts rocked. The salads are crispy and plentiful. And the service was great - very helpful staff.

Yelp
We love coming here especially to get the enchiladas, but today we didn't have meal experience. The chicken in the enchiladas was cold, I mean like out of the fridge cold, which was odd. Also, we got the bottom of the bag chips, meaning they were all small and broken like they wanted to finish off a bag and not open a new one. The service and atmosphere were great as usual!

Yelp
Flower Child is a great meal option, especially if you're looking for something healthy. I came here for lunch on a weekday and it definitely gets busy. You order at the counter, get a number, pick any table and the food is brought to you. I got the mother earth with chicken, and it was great. It was flavorful and a decent portion size. The chicken was good, but could have used more salt and pepper. The interior is bright and welcoming. When I left, it got very busy but it seems like staff cleans the tables quickly.

Yelp
Flower child is so yummy. So I got the salmon bowl with Mac and cheese and smashed potatoes. Always my go to! Service is always on point or at least for curbside :). Whenever I eat FC, I don't feel heavy, groggy, and stuffed after eating everything. Super good that I signed up for their rewards via app. lol. Wish it was closer but it'll do. Definitely going back here again. Thanks flower child!

Yelp
A solid 4 stars! I like to come here with my vegetarian wife because there are LOTS of great options for her and my omnivore self. Salads and grain bowls headline the menu. I'm partial to the chopped veggie salad with grilled chicken. My wife is a big proponent of the Mother Earth bowl featuring ancient grains and portobello mushroom. Service is friendly and efficient. You order at the counter. They give you a number and bring the food to your table. The dining room is spacious, well-ventilated and tastefully appointed. I also like this place as alternative to Starbucks for meetings and "catch-ups." Lots of great beverages to choose from and lots of space to stretch out in-between mealtimes (late morning and early afternoon).

Yelp
This was my first ever visit to any Flower Child. Where have I been? It was probably one of the most enjoyable meals. The place is bright and pleasantly decorated. The staff was very helpful, pleasant, and working very hard. I did not see any empty plates/bowls sitting on a table long. You order at the counter, and if dining in, you get a number. They will bring your order to your table. On to the food. I ordered the Mother Earth with no protein added. It was so delicious. Perfect size. The only bad part about that is no leftovers. I enjoyed every bite. I already downloaded their app. I will return. UPDATE: I returned two days later with my sister. Delicious just like the first time. The roasted sweet potato fries are a must-have!

Yelp
A great fast casual spot that's cozy and has a wide variety of healthy salads, sandwiches/wraps, and other options, though it was a bit hit or miss on our first visit. The good: --chopped vegetable salad with salmon (a bit overcooked and not customizable) was fresh and bright, with textural variety, and a good miso ginger dressing -- Black bean hummus wrap was quite flavorful The never to be ordered again: -- side kale salad with Parmesan, garlic, lemon, and bread crumbs: this was basically a nightmare of a kale salad. It wasn't properly treated so it remained hard to chew and bitter. Honestly, it's among the worst kale salads I've ever eaten at a restaurant. With the same ingredients and adequate massaging with the lemon juice, this should have been easy to execute. --grilled chicken plate: comes with two sides and just maybe three or four pieces of boring chicken breast which look so perfectly shaped so as to be of questionable origin. Note that the only fries served here are sweet potato fries. All in all, not bad for a fast casual place, but will learn from our first visit.

Yelp
I ordered enchiladas to go. Got home to open the bag to find a burnt dish. Very disappointing. Will not be back to Flower Child.

Yelp
Flower Child Bethesda is an excellent spot! Stopped here for lunch after seeing it on my way to work. I ordered ahead on their website and decided to try two meals (they have a $10 off $20 coupon if you sign up for emails!). The steak wrap had great flavors. I enjoyed the combination of the horseradish, cheese, and vinaigrette. I also appreciate that the dressing and greens are left on the side so that the wrap doesn't get soggy! The ginger crunch salad was exactly what I wanted it to be. Crunchy and delicious. The mint and ginger miso combo with the sweetness of the peppers and carrots -- yum! The salad is a good portion size too and I had plenty leftover, between the two entrees. You can sit indoors or outdoors even with online orders, and they have a cutlery station near the drinks so I could avoid using disposables while I sat and ate. Bonus points for this!! Staff were friendly and parking is easy, as it's a large lot. I very much enjoyed this visit and will be back again soon! Highly recommend

Yelp
One of my absolute favorite places to get lunch. Their menu has loads of delicious and unique vegan and vegetarian options, as well as some meat ones. Online, they also have nutritional info, which I appreciate. I've frequently ordered through DoorDash, but their location is also cute, with both indoor and outdoor seating. I went with my parents and they really liked it!

Yelp
Good option for a healthy fast casual option with some tasty food. Very spacious seating area and I love the self serve drink options.
google avatar

Yelp
Outrageous! The sides if you order them separately ---I've attached a photo--ARE SIX DOLLARS EACH. Bring lots of money if you are going to eat here. At least the water's free.
google avatar

Yelp
Wry fresh, creative food. Healthy and appetizing with numerous types of cuisines to choose from. My family of four had Mexican, middle eastern, American, and Asian dishes and everything was great. Nice looking dining room. Fast casual so you order at the counter and food is brought to you at the table. Only complaint is that there are a lot of items with a lot of ingredients so it takes a little while to figure out what you want and the line can move slowly when they're busy. Not a major problem, but FYI. We forgot to take photos of our food

Chris B.

Yelp
Really good food and lovely ambiance. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. They had a nice selection of additional hot sauce that you could add to your food as well. Would definitely come back!
google avatar

Ali R.

Yelp
I had a sneaky suspicion that this place was hyped up for the health food factor and not for the actual food. And I was correct. My salmon was flavor. Listen, dry, my sweet potato fries that were roasted we're very chewy. My rose lemonade was very sweet without a lot of flavor. In the only good thing I can say is the Moroccan sweet potato soup was great! If you love, true foods, you'll love this restaurant, but if you feel like it is over priced, unseasoned, food. We agree.

Jen K.

Yelp
Sometimes you want a good meal that is not overly expensive and not fast food. First time trying Flower Child and very satisfied with my meal.
google avatar

Rebecca C.

Yelp
The whole concept of Flower Child suits the changing trends in foods, naturally sourced ingredients, produce heavy, and earthy, honest flavors. The food was DELICIOUS! There was a fresh quality to the vegetables, and they were very generous with their servings! This was surprising considering how stingy a lot of restaurants are with foods such as avocados! Unfortunately, the one thing they are missing from their menu is hot coffee. We tried the Mother Earth with Tofu and the Chicken Yakisoba Noodles. The seasoning on the Yakisoba Noodles was a tad salty for me, but I think for most it would have been just fine. The restaurant is very spacious inside and there's nice, covered outdoor seating with umbrellas. It is very popular The restaurant is self service in regards to Utensils, napkins, and water. You grab a number at the register, and they'll bring the food to your table. Parking in the lot is free. We'll definitely be going back to try other bowls and salads!
google avatar

Yelp
Recently dined at this healthier options establishment and found the food to be quite good. Ordering was straightforward and the staff were helpful. However, I was a bit surprised with the portion sizes as they were smaller than I expected. In terms of value, I would say it's average considering the quality of ingredients used, but expected slightly larger portions for the price. Place is located in a shopping plaza, plenty of parking and even outdoor seating if desired.
google avatar

Pearl Y.

Yelp
I think the food is healthy and yummy. Every time when we finish hiking at Billy goat trail at Great Falls Park, we love to drive here for the meal. It is not heavy but just right for early dinner after some outdoor walk. I love this place!
google avatar

Skylar W.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious lunch at Flower Child. Everything tastes so fresh, and you can tell the quality of the food just by looking at it. I got the Glow Bowl with chicken and my mom ordered the steak with a side of cauli risotto and broccoli. My only complaint is it's definitely a pricy lunch, but I would rather pay a bit more for food I feel good about eating, so it doesn't bother me for a periodic visit.
google avatar

Heidi L.

Yelp
Great service! Head of house was really nice, beautiful seating area - loved being inside! However, I ordered the mushroom bolognese, and was disappointing. Mentioned tofu sausage, didn't have any - and the overall dish was bland. I think if I gave this place another chance I would order something different.
google avatar

Yelp
If you're looking for a nourishing, healthy, natural, and wholesome meal then this place is for you!!! Never been to a ~healthier~ restaurant in my life. Don't let that scare you away, Flower Child helps give healthy food a good reputation. I got the Ginger Miso Crunch salad and added tofu. It was so good, specifically the dressing which I think I could've drank by itself. Another thing I loved about this place is that they had tons of vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. They also have meat and other non vegan/veg options, so they really have something for everyone. If I lived in the area this would be my go to lunch spot. Highly recommend giving it a try.
google avatar

Alex G.

Yelp
I have been here on several occasions, usually during the summer, over the past 3 years. Service has been quick and friendly every time. I love the variety of meals and seasonal menu options of 1-2 dishes. Great place to meet up and hang out with friends. There is ample indoor and outdoor seating, though there are no parasols at the tables to keep you dry in case it rains.
google avatar

Joyce Y.

Yelp
Is there really anything better than Flower Child? I'll wait. Came back while I was in the area to try something different off the menu - the Chicken Enchiladas. Still got my side of mac and cheese though, don't worry. SERIOUSLY. SO. GOOD. Okay, granted in my photo you can't even really see any enchiladas. I KNOW. They're there. They were told with a slaw and mashed avocado. The enchilada tortillas had a crispy edge to them, and the sauce?!?! Amazing. Shredded chicken was delicious and not dry at all for me. It kind of tasted like....a pizza? Is that weird? But it was so good. Like. I grabbed a take out container before the food came because I thought I wasn't going to finish it all. But I did. Mac and cheese #2 this time, gotta say, it wasn't velvety smooth cheese like the first time. This time the pasta was almost dry and didn't get that smooth creaminess at all. Only a little disappointed because truly, love love Flower Child. And I got to sit outside on a nice day so 10/10.

Yelp
I've become a regular online delivery patron of Flower Child. After the regrettable close of one of my favorite local spots, I was worried I would find a replacement. I am not really into veganism for all the social justice reasons. I am a very happy omnivore. That said, I do on occasion want a strong plant-based option. What I really appreciate about Flower Child is the excellent quality to price ratio. I think back in January, I went a sold week and a half eating nothing but the Mother Earth bowl with tofu and chicken. Okay fine..a FEW times it was just with tofu. The important takeaway was that the combination of flavors played harmoniously. There was a diversity of textures which sated my meat loving tendencies. I particularly enjoy the deep umami of the marinated portobello mushrooms, the sweet zing of the red pepper miso they glaze the sweet potatoes with, and the verdant punch of the broccoli pesto. I don't care that the food was easily processed by my body or led to less CO2 emissions or any of the other discussions about a plant based diet. I eat the food because it is delicious and satisfying and incredibly well priced.. If the only thing YOU care about is flavor and satisfaction, might I humbly suggest you give Flower Child a try. Plant based well, my friends.

Yelp
Great food and the service is top level. Livvi is a new hire and was so helpful with my gluten-free and dairy-free request.

Yelp
This is our second time placing a catering order. The food has been fantastic both times. We love the chicken, broccoli, the sweet potatoe and the Sweet Corn & Quinoa. Our guests loved them too. I dont know what is about the roasted broccoli but both times it seemed to surprise the guests with how good it was. People dont seem to expect vegetables to have this much flavor. We've also tried the steak and the macaroni and cheese. Both good but didn't wow the guests as much as the previously mentioned items. Regardless, we wont hesitate to use flower child for future catering.

Yelp
I can't believe I have not done a review yet! I have been here a few times and even done take out. I love the avocado dip and pita and I'm not adventurous as I stick to what I love the Turkey and Avo Cobb with the Gorgonzola dressing. I have noticed the Gorgonzola over the past year or few months is not as Gorgonzola as what it was when they first opened and the turkey is now cubed versus shredded but I still like it. I had it yesterday and I'd probably order it again with no turkey and ask if they can add more dressing. Eating in service is good and the packaging for take out is great. Nice atmosphere and outside seating.

Yelp
Flower Child preaches to be "soul-satisfying" and on a mission to radiate positively delicious vibes." You can order for grab and dash or grab and relax. We opted to relax so that we could take in the aesthetic. The restaurant is vibrantly colorful and cheery. One cannot leave here in a bad mood, the walls suck it out of you. The lemonade drinks available are quite refreshing. Highly recommend trying one. They also have alcoholic drinks too. In addition, the food menu is surprisingly extensive. They serve wraps, sides, bowls, salads, appetizers and soups.

Yelp
I had the pleasure of meeting the manager, Marcus, at the store while he was tidying up the area in front of the counter. I mentioned to him that the service was excellent and the food was delicious and served promptly. He paused his work, and we had a delightful conversation. I highly recommend Flower Child--the place is spotless, and the food arrives quickly.

Yelp
Given all the positive reviews, I was really looking forward to my first visit to Flower Child. Though I loved the food, which I thought was very tasty and creatively put together, the customer service left much to be desired. I got there at around 2:00pm on the Wednesday after Christmas. The restaurant was nearly empty -- and while there was plenty of staff laughing and joking with one another -- I waited some time before someone came to take my order at the takeout line. After I placed my order, I was told to wait until my name was called. I sat at a table next to the register, occupied myself, and waited. After about 35 minutes, I realized that it was taking an awfully long time. I went up to the cashier -- there were about five of them huddling around the front gossiping about personal affairs -- and I asked if someone could please check on my order. One of them casually said, "oh, your order came out already. Someone should have called you." He then went to fetch my order that was placed on a nearby rack. Without even an apology or explanation, he thrust my order at me, said, "cheers," and walked back to his colleagues to resume gossiping. Fittingly, I arrived at my destination only to find no napkins or utensils in the bag. Again, while I thought the food was excellent -- though cold -- the careless, lackadaisical, and uncaring attitude really put a damper on my overall experience. The food is great, but the service was very disappointing.

Christopher T.

Yelp
If you're ordering online at this location, order at minimum 45 minutes in advance. I come here everyday after the gym and have learned to place my order that much in advance because of how long it takes. Even if the restaurant is empty like this picture i posted.

Yelp
Delicious vegan food and a lovely ambiance! The avocado hummus was delicious and flavorful and the tofu wrap was filling! Loved the apple spice kombucha

Yelp
Great food, great allergy safety for celiacs, nice outdoor seating. Manager was extremely friendly and made sure our large group was very well taken care of.

Gwen S.

Yelp
We hoped for a healthy tasteful lunch but that was not the case. The Peruvian chicken (what makes it Peruvian?) was dry and not flavorful. The three vegetarian sides included a fruit salad (mainly cut up red grapes , two small pieces of pineapple and couple of small mandarin wedges), an Asparagus and quinoa salad (mainly zucchini and quinoa with a couple of small pieces from a cut up asparagus spear) , and a roasted cauliflower with hummus (small cold pieces of tasteless cauliflower on a bed of hummus). Note that the ice tea is $3.95. The prices of the bowls and salads may be reasonable but you get , in my view, food poorly cooked with inferior taste
google avatar

Michiko Y.

Yelp
Amazing in all ways! My salmon main dish with two sides was perfectly prepared, so delicious, and nutritious. Quick service and very organized. Friendly, personable staff too, especially Marcos and Taylor. I can't wait to go again to my newly discovered favorite place!

Yelp
The food is healthy, tastes fresh and clean. The people that work there are also pretty awesome and always fun to talk to when you come in. This Flower Child is one of my favorites, I think they're well run, clean and have so many great options for most dietarty issues. I've enjoyed every item and left feeling good after eating there.

Yelp
On a scale of romances to documentaries, Flower Child is a summer read set in the country. Bright colors are the rule of thumb when it comes to decor, and the menu provides a number of healthy and tasty options. My partner opted for a bowl and added salmon, and I went for a wrap...and in the very typical way, I wish I had ordered what they had ordered. Parking was plentiful, and we really enjoyed our visit!
google avatar

Lexi G.

Yelp
We loooved our late lunch at flower child! Parking in the lot on the south side was easy. The restaurant is so cute and love the open kitchen. You order at the counter and are given a number to take to your table. We had the "Bolognese" and teriyaki chicken noodles that were both so tasty and nutritious! Our food came out very fast and very hot. Would definitely recommend for a more casual/quick meal out for a great value.

Yelp
What a wonderful experience this was! I will definitely be back. Adrian was so helpful as was his manger Marcus as I was debating about vegetarian options and food allergy alternatives. Everything was perfect! Plus, the atmosphere is so friendly and relaxing. A nice experience all around!
google avatar

Kylie S.

Yelp
I didn't even realize this was here for months, because the name didn't seem like a restaurant. I had the chicken enchiladas, they were pretty good. The turkey and guida wrap had too much oil and mayo and too little turkey and cheese. They do have gluten free options so I will definitely try more of their menu. There is plenty of seating both inside and out.
google avatar

Siddhi P.

Yelp
Great food, ambinece and service. They also have a great menu selection which caters for all

Mauricio Q.

Yelp
I was skeptical at first but then i tried it and it was so good. Steak was well seasoned and cooked well but small portion. Mashed potatoes were so good and unexpected. The brussel sprouts were acidic and cooked well. I loved this and will def come back soon.

Megan W.

Yelp
I highly recommend this and I definitely will be going back. The portion sizes are great and the food was full of flavor and the portion size was great as well for the price point. The scenery and decor in the space is bright and vibrant. It fits my energy and I was warmly welcomed by the staff as well when we walked in. I take it was a manager that dropped off our food and checked in to see how we were doing which I appreciated their attentiveness towards the guests. It was a nice day outside so we sat outside and enjoyed the weather. They also change parts of their menu due to this season so you wanna check them out at various times of the year and go back more than once to grab your favorite items as well. Check them out and you just might see me there,

Donna S.

Yelp
When it comes to food, it's not often that Tasty and healthy go together. At Flower Child you can experience both. They've figured it out. The staff is friendly and the wait was minimal. You seat yourself with a number and your food is brought to you. Plenty of seating is available. The Tysons Corner location was quiet but the Bethesda location had a nice after work vibe. The Forbidden rice is tasty. I pair it with grilled tofu. You choose your protein. The Mother Earth bowl is delicious! I paired it with Salmon. You may choose any of their 2 sangrias or a healthy fountain drink. I will definitely be back again and again.

Food is bomb! I'm definitely coming back the next time I'm in the Bethesda area. It's very clean and spacious and the presentation of the food was perfect!
