I'm a fresh convert to fried fish with a thin and flavorful cornmeal batter. I may never again order fish'n'chips done with a tempura batter or a wheat batter. Lawdy, this is my new favorite meal in Sacramento. Had read an Instagram post from a trusted foodie praising this place and knew I had to try it. We arrived close to the end of the day, so except for a steady stream of pickup orders, we had the place to ourselves. It's not fancy, but it's clean and colorful. I had Ling cod. Hubs had the snapper. The fish was fall-apart fresh and moist. When ordering, we had a choice of soft fried, medium, or crispy. He opted for crispy. I opted for medium crispy. No greasy fingers. Barely any grease on the paper plate. How? I dunno! But it's freakin delicious and no heartburn. The meal comes with one side and we each opted for the house made potato salad, again on my foodie friend's recommendation. Chunks of potatoes, generous amount of celery and pickles, and a light tasty dressing that's not gooey or greasy. Baseball-sized scoop! Solid L.O.V.E. and 40 years of proven recipes served up on a heaping plate of food. "Small" portion is HUGE! House made tartar sauce is on point, too. Neither of us could finish our meal! Leftover fish warmed up perfectly in the air fryer. We took some time to lavish compliments on Miss Evette and her son Denzel before leaving. Parking is tight in their own small lot, but street parking is available. This is MLK Blvd, Oak Park fixture, 4 decades in the same spot, small woman-owned business, neighborhood staple go-to for real food, no pretense, just yum.
