11 Great Sushi Restaurants On The Westside

"Located near the entrance of the Chatt Works food hall, Flying Fish has a small five-seat sushi counter if you enjoy watching the sushi team prep each order. And their work seems extra attentive since we’re usually the only ones at the counter. But in traditional food hall fashion, we always get our orders to-go, so we can create our own multi-course fest with other vendors around the market. Also, because a six-to eight-piece spicy tuna roll is nearly $20, we need to find other ways to get full without burning through our pockets. But when we’re with a date who can't commit to one food genre, this stall problem-solves with quality takes on the usual rolls and nigiri hits while leaving room for other vendors." - nina reeder, juli horsford

Had a scale in my sushi, I know it's fresh, but eh that was not fun. Salmon was fresh, and juicy though. Lacked any real flavor, like the subtle nice flavors of raw fish, the rolls were drenched in sauce, avocado wasn't fully ripe so it had a weird bite to it, found a scale in my roll, and they gave me like the tiniest amount of wasabi that was watery for the 5 rolls I ordered. Overall, overpriced for the quality, wouldn't recommend to anyone.

What you need to know: Solid sushi, good rolls, solid nigiri, decent gyoza. Ended up ordering from here as half our party wanted tacos and the other half sushi, so why not both right? Food: We ordered the Lobster Tempura roll, pork gyoza, and some sake (salmon) nigiri. The lobster tempura roll was by far the standout dish here. Equally crunchy without losing the lobster flavor and great sauces. The nigiri was solid as well, great cuts of salmon that were tender-ish, however, whoever is molding the rice needs some practice because as soon as I picked up the nigiri pieces the rice was already falling apart (and no I didn’t put the rice into soy sauce). The gyoza were where things weren’t the best, the filling kept falling out of mine whenever I took a bite and it needed more flavor - especially since it was deep fried and not pan fried. Dumpling sauce was a little too on the sweet side as well. Service: Standard service here. Courteous enough to take your order, but no frills and nothing over the top. Price: Ended up paying over $40 for the 3 things we ordered (plus a Diet Coke). Definitely overpriced, but in a hipster food hall, whenever you list something with lobster you can seemingly always over charge for it. All in all, this was a solid sushi joint. A little overpriced for me, but it’s in a new hipster food hall, so what can you expect? I can say that I wasn’t that mad about the money we spent tho because the roll was really good and nigiri showed that they take care of their fish, even if their rice needed work. Wouldn’t mind ordering from here again on my next visit.

Very good sushi in the new awesome food court at “the Works”! Great service and quality sushi! Order to-go and enjoy one of the many outdoor tables.

This is the first review I’ve ever left for an establishment in my life and I just need to comment on the incredible customer service by this team. I wish I could have remembered everyone by name, but they are so thorough and so kind. As someone that experienced working in the service industry first hand for several years, I know how hard it is to comply with customers and work to the best of my ability. Each team member here went above and beyond throughout my entire experience and they all deserve a raise. I hope to one day see this business expand beyond the parameters of The Works so they can have their own stand-alone establishment. Kudos to everyone. Everything was delicious and labeled for a to-go order and handled with care and myself and my business down the street will continue to give them my money. Please someone in management tell them they did a great job, they need to hear it.

Best sushi I have ever had! Great customer service and great food! I will be coming back just for this place alone!!! Try the lobster roll, it’s phenomenal!!! As you can see we devoured the rolls because they were so amazing! But the bang bang shrimp was amazing as well! Highly recommend, those bad reviews are definitely not accurate at all!!!!
