Best Holiday Desserts in Philly | Eater Philly

"From October to January, Reading Terminal’s Flying Monkey Bakery brings back one of its most iconic offerings: the pumpple cake. This unique dessert features a pie baked inside a cake and is made in two variations: a chocolate cake with pumpkin pie baked inside, and a vanilla cake with apple pie baked inside. Stop by to grab a few slices, or place an order on its website (just be sure to give at least 72 hours’ notice)." - George Banks-Weston

You HAVE to stop here to try the classic whoopie at its absolute finest! The intense chocolatey goodness of the cake is perfectly balanced with the sweet cream filling. Wish I could have waited for it to get to room temperature because it probably would have been even better - if that's possible. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Apparently, they have other tasty goods, but I only had eyes for the pies. Currently calculating how many I can pack for my trip home!

I ordered two vegan variety boxes and received the same flavor of the two types of items I ordered. That isn't variety to me. I called about it and was told 'that's what we had and there's nothing we can do about it' when I was just asking about the flavors. Very disappointed in the service. Will not revisit.

This was my first time at this bakery in the Reading Terminal. I’m very picky with my desserts. The line was moving quick, so I decided to try this place. My choice desserts: Coconut Macaroon and Classic Whoopie Pie. The Coconut Macaroon is a flourless crunchy sweet treat. And the Whoopie Pie was delectably delicious. Oh my goodness, both desserts were deliciously flavorful and totally worth it. The counter people were friendly too. Definitely returning to this bakery next time I’m in the city.

Got the last 3 yesterday to try these Oatmeal Raisin Pecan cookies. They were so good I bought 6 fresh ones this morning. Awesome flavor and texture. Better than Grandma used to make and better than any I’ve had anywhere in the past.

This was my first time at The Flying Monkey Bakery and I got the Vegan Piña Colada bundt cake and the Fruit Pebble rice crispy treat. They both were pretty good. There was only one bundt cake left but I wanted a particular piece of the Fruity Pebble treat that was closer to the front and the cashier said she can't reach over the other pieces to get it. I've never ever heard of such nonsense! In this Bakery just like others the trays slide out so you can get to whatever food item with ease! So are the ones in the back more stale and you want to sale them first?? Because I don't get that. Also, I paid with cash and wanted a receipt but was told there was no paper in the machine and they didn't have any paper there to fill it. So I kindly walked her thru how to email me my receipt. I get a receipt for EVERY purchase I make, cash or card. I know with card purchases receipts are usually emailed to you, but with cash a receipt is a must. I have to agree with a few other reviews that said the cashiers/staff seemed annoyed with you. She wasn't mean, but seemed to get annoyed as soon as I asked for a particular piece of treat and my receipt. It was an hour before closing so maybe she was tired 😑 But listen, first impressions AND customer service is EVERYTHING! No matter if I like your food, products, etc. I may not want to give my money to a place because of service. I'm rarely in the area, so I was happy to finally get a change to try a couple of tasty treats, but I'm not rushing back.

The fruity pebble / rice crispy treats are worth their weight in gold. Quick and kind service if you’re looking for sweet stuff at Reading Terminal Market.
