Excellent view of the piers from right across the street, with decent ambiance. I was a part of a party of 10 or so people. We came by on a weekday in the early afternoon once our kids reached sensory overload at the Exploratorium.
Fog City was conveniently located about a quarter mile down the road from the parking lot across from the Exploratorium. As far as the service, it wasn't spectacular, but I do give them props for being able to accommodate one of our party with a couple of different food allergies.
The food looked fantastic. My partner got herself the Kickin' Fried Chicken sandwich, and I envied her decision. It looked huge and tasty. Our party also got a couple of pizzas, one with plain mozzarella (actual cuts and not shredded) and another that looked like fennel sausage. A couple of us, self included, got burgers.
Everyone seemed pretty satisfied with their food, however, my experience differed. My cheeseburger (+bacon) was cooked fantastically and was dripping with juices with every bite. My issue was that there was no taste to it at all. The patty was flavorless, and even the bacon, while crisp, seemed to have not a hint of saltiness. As such, the texture of the food was great, but I was quite underwhelmed by the overall flavor.
I don't know if this joint is run by some kind of purist, but there were no table condiments to be seen. No salt, pepper, ketchup (just a single-serving in a cup for anyone who had sides of fries), mustard, or anything on the table. At the time I was mainly preoccupied with herding children, so I didn't bother asking the waiter whether or not they had anything else they could bring us.
When all was said and done, the bill with tip came to about $220. Fair, but it seems like you're paying far more for the location and appearance than the food.
I'll pass next time but it was worth a shot.
