Bay Area Restaurant and Bar Closures to Know in November 2024 - Eater SF

"The team behind long-running Solano Avenue staple Fonda closed their doors as of Saturday, November 23. The restaurant lasted over 20 years at its location, and the owners stated, 'the simple reality is that the restaurant industry is a tough one to navigate successfully, especially after a pandemic that altered dining habits significantly.'" - Justine Jones

Great food, great atmosphere. Chef Juan Chel has been able to keep the flavor of the food consistent throughout the years. I highly recommend it!!!!

Google
Very nice place, a cosy room with a large bar and a mezzanine, plenty of different layouts for eating or drinking. Nice menu with Mexican-style tapas, wines, cocktails. Great service. Only caveat which is embarrassing for a restaurant: we found the food to be very meh. Ingredients are not high-quality (terrible prawns), and recipes are not very subtle. We could come back for a drink and a quick bite, not for a good meal.

Thus place is a gem. Real nice people and food. We had the Brussel sprouts, wings, tar tar, coffee lemon merang pie.. Everything was a hit.

Fun spot for tapas and cocktails. The hand-made corn tortillas are delicious! I would have liked more options for soaking-up the awesome sauces.

This my aunt favorite place to enjoy after a long day before a start to the weekend she been going for years I like to thank Jenny for her great suggestions on the beer she is a wonderful bartender and a host had the nachos and the potato taquitos very good great salsa Thank you

Google
While the setting is nice and the staff is always friendly, the food is very much just "meh" It can be very greasy and not super flavorful. We got the brusselsprouts and they were supposed to be crispy but were really just half cooked. Similar experiences multiple times with multiple menu dishes just being okay. Nothing awful but nothing great. We got a chocolate lava cake that was the least chocolatey version I've ever had. Their drinks are decent and the happy hour (5 to 6) prices can be a good deal if you see spnething you like.

Every thing was good expect the waiter that wanted to be nice .he asked us 10 times every thing is ok .we were in important meeting and he dropped off us

Taco Tuesday. Seated right away. Waited for a server for 5-10 minutes only to have the hostess greet us again. Drinks came in a normal timeframe and had to ask for water 3 times before finally brought to our table. That was the last time we saw our “server” during our meal. Water was never refilled and we had no communication with a server until I received the check. Tacos were good size and generous portions. Chips and guacamole, small portions and had to ask a food runner twice for more salsa. I doubt I’ll return, but if so, I’ll sit at the bar!!!

Yelp
Duck tacos. Yes I know. What the what. But it didn't taste like duck, it's slowly marinated or who's knows what but it falls apart. I will not fault them for not adding the pomegranate seeds i got used to it. It was an odd marriage but it word. Pulled duck, guacamole and a few pomegranate seeds with a sprig of cilantro. That has kept me coming back for a long time. I was in between laundry and felt safe (and stupid) enough to leave my purse while changing over my laundry. I appreciated the trust and my server was on it when i got back "Duck tacos, right?" Those things make you feel cared about and important, not just a dollar sign to the business. It's super cozy inside. The upstairs is no longer open to the public but that used to be intimate. They still have about 3-4 tables in the from that are small and have a cozy intimate feel. Their hours have been so inconsistent over the years so look them up before heading over.

Yelp
I've passed by this Albany tapas restaurant many times without giving any thought of stopping in. It looked like more of a destination spot than I was willing to commit myself to, but one early evening, I was feeling peckish enough to take advantage of their Happy Hour. Their bar was already full up with regulars who knew the bartender well, so I sat at one of the small bar tables. I was delighted to see what an appetizing collection of bar bites they offered at nice discounts from their regular menu as well as a solid cocktail list. I first ordered the $13 Margarita del Jefe, three dollars off the menu price, which turned out to be a smoother than average margarita given the obvious quality of the tequila (photo: https://yelp.to/U-uDDtu-ph). I decided on two small plates. First up was the $8 plate of Fonda Wings, quite a pile of their specialty slathered in spicy guajillo sauce (photo: https://yelp.to/WwwGu6DQ1G). You don't have to sell me on spicy wings. They were delicious. Then I went for the $14 Duck Tacos, a couple of them with guacamole, salsa de arbol, and pomegranate seeds (photo: https://yelp.to/ecpQ5COibD). Pretty tasty mouthfuls. I decided to end my meal with the $14 Aperitif Sour, which I believe uses a Campari-like liqueur called Aperol (photo: https://yelp.to/2S859mxJlW). It had a bit more sour grapefruit taste than I prefer, but it did help avert the inevitable heartburn from the wings. Several of the entrees sounded appetizing, but I have to say the Happy Hour may be your best bet for a sampling of their best stuff. FOOD - 4 stars...solid bar bites and craft cocktails AMBIANCE - 4 stars...stylish corner of Albany SERVICE - 3.5 stars...pretty efficient TOTAL - 4 stars...happiest at Happy Hour RELATED - Exploring Albany? Yelp
I hadn't been to this place in a long time so we figured we would go back. I do recall this place having pretty good tapas. We waited about ten minutes which wasn't that bad. The place was pretty busy. We ordered a couple drinks (margarita, French 75), they both were pretty good. We then ordered the wings, chips and guacamole, duck tacos, and Brussels sprouts. The wings were a little dry and tough, the chips and guac were delicious along with that salsa, and the duck tacos were tender and tasty. I think the food here is pretty good but the prices are a little high. The service is really good, always. I forgot to take photos but I'll be back and take some.

Yelp
Good restaurants should serve real food that fill customers up and have character; unfortunately Fonda does not have either of those things. The tapas here are awfully simple (&expensive), and the menu overall does not have a theme that I could recommend to others, like "oh, that place, their [example item] is really good." For a restaurant to be memorable, they have to do 1-2 things well and be known for those things. After dining and spending $150 at Fonda's recently, I still do not know what they should be known for. The food here is unremarkable and simply lacks character. Avoid.

Yelp
Taco Tuesday. Seated right away. Waited for a server for 5-10 minutes, only to have the hostess greet us again. Apparently she was tasked with several duties. Drinks came in a normal timeframe, but had to ask for water 3 times before finally brought to our table. That was the last time we saw our "server" during our meal. Water was never refilled, nor were we asked if we'd like another cocktail. We had no communication with a server until I received the check. Tacos were good size and generous portions. Chips and guacamole, small portions and had to ask a food runner twice for more salsa. I doubt I'll return, but if so, I'll sit at the bar!!! 3 stars overall, as the Taco's were great. $70 for 6 tacos, 2 drinks and Chips/Guac.

Yelp
Who can beat the Fonda happy hour? Great drinks, great food, fun people and I always end up having an interesting conversation at the bar. A go to place on Solano.

Yelp
Wow! That should encapsulate everything I'm about to say. To start things off to a strong warm welcoming for me, duck as a protein is a sign that this place was meant to be. The duck tacos with guacamole and pomegranate seeds were a nice end to my day. I confess I'm now using pomegranate when I roast a duck! At Fonda, the meat is tender, juicy, and so flavorful. An unexpected treat! The fried plantains are delightful and they're paired with black beans, cream, and salsa molcajete. If you're not a fan of overtly spicy things, like me, get the salsa on the side as I will in the future but regardless, all things were tasty! The drinks are well made and thoughtful. It didn't feel like I was just ordering from a generic drink menu. The Fonda drink was delightful. Overall I suggest this place for lovers of Latin food. On my try list: mushroom empanadas, tuna tartare, and fish tacos. I believe I shall pair it with an Idle Hands cocktail! Great job to the chefs and staff at Fonda!

Yelp
Fonda is fun place for date night! I would recommend this place to anyone. The food is always good too. They have good drinks.

Yelp
The food was suitable, but our server, Max, was terrific. He was attentive and always prompt in serving us. I ordered the chicken tortilla soup chicken flautas and the plantains. I particularly enjoyed the flavor of the plantains. The combination of sweetness and heat was delicious. The black beans were cooked perfectly, and the plantains were ripe and flavorful. I also had the sangria, which was delicious. Then we ordered chicken tortilla soup I love soup on a cold evening, and the tortillas were pan-fried to perfection. The crispness of the tortillas mixed with broth was superior, and I could eat them repeatedly. While the chicken flautas were okay, I felt they could have had more flavor. However, the highlight of the meal for me was definitely the plantains, and my waiter's satisfactory service is hard to find, so this is another place I could return to and enjoy myself again.

Yelp
We ordered chicken flautas, But the drinks at this place are amazing ,also the service was great. I would definitely be coming back to this place more often

Yelp
This is one of my favorite places. I love the mushrooms empanadas, ribs and guacamole. Cocktails are always so good! Good ambiance, great service,

Yelp
I really like Fondas, the small plates add up making it expensive to eat here, but the duck tacos are one of my favorites. The margaritas are some of the very best with the jalapenos. I also love the poblano pepper with cheese and sauce, one of my favorites here. The chips and guacamole are pricy for the portion, but still very good. The service is always pleasant, I like to sit at the counter and watch the cooks, they never stop!
google avatar

Skip R.

Yelp
Just went to Fondas again, three times this week I had to go back because I made their famous cocktail "Paloma" at home, and it was amazing, but I had to compare!! This time I finally broke away from ordering the same dang thing, "duck taco"!!!! Ordered the "chili rellano", fantastic!!! Unfortunately, the bartender recommended another amazing cocktail that blew my mind, but I can't remember the name Oh well, I have to go back! Darn!! lol

Yelp
Dairy-free chilaquiles for weekend brunch? Hell ya. I asked for them to be made free of dairy, and they were still effen delightful. They use corn tortillas, so they're naturally gluten-free. I wish the live music on the weekend was Latin music. It isn't, and it robs the ambiance of so much. Yes, you're eating amazing Mexican food, but the music..... man, the disconnect is real . . .

Yelp
Oh my gosh, where do I even begin? If you're looking for a little tapas moment, Fonda is the place to go! From the food to the drinks. AMAZING! Can't forget about the staff. Coco and Marisol fantastic! There's another blonde waitress here always has her hair tied but she's amazing as well. Whenever I go here, I have to have the patatas with extra Bravas sauce. So good. The cauliflower and the Brussels sprouts always on point. If you get the nachos you have to get it with steak, super filling and super flavorful. The tuna tartar is also yummy, the tuna is fresh. Now the drinks. If you're a vodka girl like me, you have to get the LUCKY LADY. I will literally come here just for that drink... just kidding I'm also coming for the food. The lucky lady is the bomb dot com. If you don't know what that means.... It means it's so good. Refreshing and strong enough for a good little buzz to enjoy your dinner with. This place makes the perfect little dinner date, and if you're looking to try something new. This is the place to go to. Again this is by far the best tapas place to go to in Albany!

Mary H.

Yelp
I used to love this place years ago, but this time I got a nasty tasting oyster. The waiter seemed like he was overworked and hated his job. My duck taco was all meat except one tiny sprig of cilantro. My cocktail was tasty though.
google avatar

Heaven T.

Yelp
The staff is unwelcoming, borderline rude, the food is bland and the drinks are just okay. I walked in and waited to be seated only to be ignored by a waitresses and the guys who appeared to be running the place. Another waitress came to seat me. I had fish tacos which if not for the jalapenos who be completely tasteless. My cocktail was mostly ice and nothing special. It was really chaotic by the restroom where the staff holler "CORNER!!!" when they come out the back so they don't collide into you. Those same guys who appeared to be running the place also squeeze lemons and limes into the drinks and serve them...after they come from around the corner.

Talia B.

Yelp
Super yummy tapas style! Would recommend the beet salad and chicken floutas! Definitely try the tacos as well!

Yelp I.

Yelp
I have always loved Fonda. Great owners. Great food. But never inexpensive. Ever since the wise words of revered President Joseph R Biden, condemning "shrinkflation," however, I have endeavored to be more aware of the impact of inflation on my daily lived experiences. Nowhere have I seen such a stark exposures of shrinkflation as my most recent visit to Fonda. From the nachos to the steak, the prices are higher, and portions are at least 30% smaller. WTF?

Susan C.

Yelp
Oh my, Fonda on Solano has fallen to being just a bar dive - poor food, poor service; again, ambience like a bar dive.
google avatar

Craig G.

Yelp
If you are lucky and score a coveted seat during happy hour, you are in for a treat. Creative take on Latin and Spain with even more creative cocktails. The main menu is $$$ for the portions size, and it's crazy chaotic almost anytime you are thinking about dropping in. Solid light tapas tho. The staff is hip and accommodating... even to the non regulars. We scored a table alfresco on a busy Friday night just walking up. Others waited at least 15 minutes. While this is the third time I've been here it's taken me a while to compose some ideas about it. Foo foo Mexican for sure... good vegan (ok it is Albany-Bezerkely)) washed down with very high end creative cocktails. It's almost not about the food which is very fresh and popping with creative twists, it's about the the scene. This is as close to what Albany would call a party atmosphere as you can get in this highly rated HH restaurant. Music and conversations can be deafening if you wind up somewhere deep in the bowels of the place or even upstairs. A must for a semi romantic dinner date... or meeting peeps for HH. But also family friendly and a neighborhood anchor establishment.

Nancy S.

Yelp
Great bartender! Ibhave onlybhad a kale salad for food and it was great. Good ambience.
google avatar

Kristi C.

Yelp
So during the pandemic my friend and I stopped by and got some food to take to a park (and a bottle of wine). I really loved the chili relleno. It was delicious. The chicken taqueria were good and the Brussels sprouts are amazing. I've gone back several times just to get the Brussels sprouts to go. Can't wait until they are open all the way and I can enjoy their food.

Yelp
My friend Amber is getting ready to visit her family out of state for Thanksgiving and I, of course, off to Las Vegas for relaxation. She'd never been to Fonda and it was a likely choice for a relaxing evening. Yelp reservations booked us a table for two upstairs. It's much more of a cozy setting. Benjamin was our attentive server. Amber began her evening with an enjoyable Margarita. I with a tart lemonade without fruit and a straw by request. We shared Chips with salsa and guacamole. Just the right amount of heat from the salsa, smoothed by guacamole on lightly salted chips. Ordered first the Seafood Paella consisting of scallops, prawns, mussels, clams, tocino bacon, red bell peppers, poblano chile, and spanish rice. It takes 20-25 minutes. We always share and started with the Mixed Green Salad with walnuts, goat cheese, beets, shallots, and sherry vinaigrette. Every bite was coated perfectly with the dressing and delicious. On came the Seafood Paella. Served in a its own hot pan it was indeed hot and with a modest spicy tang that did not overwhelm. The shrimp were done up perfectly and every forked bite was excellent. After dinner, Amber sipped a classic Medusa cocktail, which was sweet enough to be a dessert. I enjoyed a strong Spanish coffee, sans the Cointreau. A enjoyable relaxing time for us to spend together.

Yelp
We went here for a "Yaymaker" paint nite event that they held upstairs. Afterwards, we decided to partake in their tapas menu right before closing. We enjoyed only a couple of their items: mushroom empanadas- totally recommend! And their fish tacos (serves 2). The fish tacos were tasty, my dining partner didn't enjoy the cream sauce on top so more for me! The mushroom empanadas (serves 3) were so good! I've never had a veggie empanada before and thought I would miss the meat but the mushrooms were filling and the cheese was so creamy. There are so many restaurants on this street so there's a lot to compete with. I recommend this place for brunch or light tapas. The parking is crowded, try street parking that doesn't limit you for 90 minutes if you want to explore the area.

Noam P.

Yelp
The food and service were both excellent! I have only positive things to say about Fonda.

Tiny B.

Yelp
I'm overjoyed to report that I have Fonda another chance recently and it did not disappoint! Perhaps they had a couple bad months/years with the pandemic but they are back on their game. It's got the great dishes of before, but cocktails actually tasted better now and some new dishes to choose from. Everything was delicious and also amazing service. We are so happy they are back on their game and will be going back a lot more!
google avatar

Julie S.

Yelp
By far our favorite place in the east bay. Nice please to sit (especially the bar), the bar tender knows the way around a drink and the food is casual and nice. If you want to enjoy an evening out that's the place

Sylvia F.

Yelp
La Fonda is our favorite neighborhood bar where we always feel comfortable in its cozy but unpretentious ambience. Here you'll find fantastic craft cocktails and a great selection of wines and beer. Tapas are also splendid. We enjoy our drinks and food here almost every week and love sitting at the bar and chatting with other regulars and newcomers, and with the fantastic bartenders. The owners of the defunct Cesar bar in Berkeley have owned this neighborhood gem for over seven years, and it's great to see some of the old Cesar's staff at La Fonda now. Don't miss this local experience.
google avatar

Suz O.

Yelp
Amazing! Great cocktails, yummy food, happy hour til 6 on Sundays. Looking forward to coming back.
google avatar

Tania F.

Yelp
Delicious as always! The best margaritas in Berkeley. The food is really good. The servers nice, friendly, and excellent. I have been a custom from the past 12 years.

Margery N.

Yelp
Amazing cocktails and small plates! We love the Fish Tocos and the Chili Rellenos!! Servers are awesome and so is the ambience.

Yelp
My neighborhood bar. I love this place and the people. Just had brunch there and the bottomless mimosas until 3pm is a no brainer. I've been coming here for 3+ years. For brunch we had chorizo hash. Spicy and perfect mix with eggs etc. Kids had pancakes and they were Felicia. One kid doesn't regularly like pancakes. They must use lemon zest or something. I had lite breakfast with side if rice and chorizo. Chorizo is homemade as well as guacamole and chips. Normally in evening I have had tamale, tosdatitas, cucumber jicama, warm kale, brussel sprouts, chicken tortilla soup, spicy nuts, warm chocolate cake, steak, etc. I love everything. Been too happy hour too. And a nice break post work. Has been our comfort place. Thanks to the crew there!

Yelp
I stopped by Fonda for happy hour on a Saturday night for the late night, and boy was parking terrible on Solano! But besides that, everything was solid. Can you believe this was my first solo venture out into the real world, where everybody I knew was possibly busy and I just had to come to Fonda? Save me bar seat for one please! It was hustle when I got there and there weren't any signs that gave direction on what to do once you walk in. Don't venture up the stairs, but towards the slanting down walkway to the bar. Somebody will be there to seat you shortly. I got squeeze between two couples, but I was perfectly content with being tucked away under the stairs to this majestic bar they had before me (and an open kitchen!) I showed up right when happy hour started (coincidence or on purpose) Either way, that's why I was there! Keith was the SWEETEST bar tender and so charming. He gave me just enough space and checked on me at the right times. I opted for a house Fonda cocktail (8)-and booooooy, for a tiny drink it blew my common sense right out. I could feel myself letting loose and relaxing on the instant, the drinks are definitely strong they don't skimp! Cheap prices and easy to get tispy? Count all of us in! There were some great food items as well, and you should of seen the shock on his face when I started ordering for myself, there just wasn't enough bar space for me! Off the happy hour menu, I got a dozen oysters (1 each) and the guac/salsa/chips (6). Freshest oysters and I was blown away the quality and just how good they were. Chilled and iced, garnish with the perfect lemon, I downed them so quickly! The house fried chips and guac were perfection and a great side as I drunkingly continued to finish my first drink. Keith came back around and offered me water! I really enjoyed the ambiance of Fonda. I was worried to being with since some reviews mentioned how couple-ly and ish this place was, but I happily got into a conversation with the bar staff and all that around me sort of just melted away. It was a perfect get away happy hour table for one experience. It can get loud inside, but I mean if you're enjoying yourself you just blend right into the noise. Ian was great as well. He came and checked up on me, just overall the staff had an amazing customer service attitude. He suggested that I got the duck tacos (9) which were MAGNIFICENT, not happy hour, but for sure you get your moneys worth. Classy street like tacos with fresh pulled duck and that natural grease just dripping down your fingertips and went so well with my Cuban Coke (mexican coke and rum). The food all came out in a good amount of time, was hot or cold depending on what I ordered, and just the overall experience here at Fonda blew my expectations right out the door! I spent the entire second happy hour time there from about 9pm-1230am when they closed. I just was so caught up in enjoying myself! I definitely recommend Fonda for anything looking for a sweet HH deal (they have do, the mid day and the late night all day eveyday). Good food, great company, and I'll be back!

Yelp
Fonda is absolutely one of the best restaurant in Berkeley. Every time I came here I always want to come back again. They serve Mexican/Spanish tapas, the ambiance is fun, they play fun/great music, the servers are friendly as well. What I really like the most is that they have a long happy hour, which I couldn't find it anywhere else. I am a late eater so I am so glad that they serve happy hour menu from 9 to midnight. They have wide variety of food and drinks, the price and portion are very reasonable compare to other tapas restaurants. The New Zealand Lamb Chops is my favorite. The Cucumber tasted very fresh and delicious. The Fish Tacos also taste great. Really really amazing food and drinks. I always recommend this restaurant to my friends and family.

Yelp
Wasn't too impressed with this place, even though the reviews tell me otherwise. We came here for their HH on a Tuesday night. Place was semi full.. With their bar seats all taken and a few vacant booths. We got a few things from their HH menu: 1. Half dozen oysters- small and fresh, a little milky and flavorful 2. Carne asada tacos- nothing amazing, meat poured over a tortilla with a slice of avocado..I've had much better 3. Chips and salsa- savory and tart salsa with oily chips We got sangria and the "Fonda" drink. Sangria didn't taste like the traditional sangria... Not much fruit.. More sour and dull... The Fonda was fresh with great lime flavor! Overall, I feel there that there's better HH places... But unfortunately wasn't impressed based on the four star reviews.

Yelp
Been coming to Fonda off and on for the last 10 years. I've always found it to be overpriced as the food quantity is always lacking. However, most of their food is still pretty tasty and keeps me coming back. I love the guacamole and chips, their chicken wings, the fried cauliflower, and my absolute favorite are the chicken flautas. I've tried a few of their drinks, which were mediocre.. except for the Fonda (which I am assuming is their signature cocktail). It is strong, tasty and gorgeous. Highly recommend it. This place can get pretty crowded, but the servers always try their best to be attentive. The bar has a nice ambiance and you can watch games on the t.v. If you're looking for an upbeat tapas spot in the Albany/Berkeley area, check out Fonda.

Yelp
We have come here for years. Anytime we've eaten here we loved whatever we ate. I remember eating lamb and it was amazing. Tonight we just came for drinks. We ordered some violent delights. Delicious! I love any drink with passion fruit. I guess it's the island girl in me. And our friends had whiskeys. Very smooth and tasty as well.

Yelp
I'm gonna get the negative out of the way...portion sizes are small and $12.50 for two tacos is INSANE! But otherwise I can't complain so on to the goodies!!! This is such a nice place to dine. Outside seating, window seating, top floor seating, bar seating!!! So many options, all with something pleasing to look at whether it be the tv, bar, people watching...take your pick. The cocktail menu is small but I didn't order a drink (I was in my work uniform, it's a thing for me). I did however order a Mexican Coke and love that I was given the option! Neighboring diners ordered cocktails that were beautiful and were described well on the menu so I'm definitely trying a few next time! Food is good, not great. I was pleasantly surprised but not wowed. The chicken "flautas" is one large one cut on the bias. Garlic prawns come in a sauce that is flavorful but not garlicky. Chicken wings were missing something...but I couldn't pinpoint what. Broccolini was soooo good though! And the hibiscus mignonette that is served with the oysters is yummy!! Presentation for all of my dishes was great and that's gotta be a good start to any meal. I look forward to finding some favorites on the rest of the menu!

Yelp
Came her for Cinco de Mayo celebration. Perfect choice as it was also Happy Hour at Fonda. Everything we tried (papusas, chicken wings, taquitos with parties and cheese, Chicken taquitos, strong sangria, mezcal drinks) were all good. They have upstairs and downstairs seating area, a bar, restroom is located on main level. Awesome prices and tapas style vibe. Will definitely return during happy hour.

Yelp
Solano Avenue is full of great places to eat and Fonda is definitely one of them. Being one of the more upscale spots around makes them definitely stand out. There is a real intamate feeling while dining at Fonda. Pick from a selection of tapas and tacos, everything is delicious. We ordered about 5 tapas and an order of tacos for 3 of us and it was plenty. The fish tacos we're off the hook good. The chicken and potato flautas we're also amazing! Cocktails are super yummy as well. They have a great alcohol selection, especially tequila! Fonda is a bit pricey for a normal family outing but for date night or a special occasion it's perfect. Great vibes on Solano Ave, I will definitely be back for a drink!

Yelp
Nice ambiance and loud atmosphere. Dimly lit but illuminated by the decor lights in the bar and on the walls. It's tapas style of restaurant so it's good to go with a group to try different things, but the price can get high when ordering multiple orders of the same thing. So it's a catch 22. The service was professional and prompt. The highlight of our meal was the duck tacos. I liked the flavor and the juiciness. The steak was cooked flawlessly but it wasn't the most tender. The lamb was good, but I'm not a big fan of lamb in the first place so I couldn't eat much of it. The shrimp was just mediocre and the sauce wasn't to die for either. The chocolate cake was also very average. While the cake was moist and very rich, I dislike when they just pile whipped cream next to it and no ice cream. I think desserts served with ice cream makes it better especially if you're going to have a cake that is so rich in flavor. Overall, it was a delightful experience, but i'm not sure if it was enough for me to come back and spend as much as we did.

Yelp
Busy, yet still nice atmosphere, pleasant environment, delicious food. What more could you ask for when dining out?

Yelp
The happy hour deal for $1 oysters is he only reason I came to be honest. The oysters were well presented and they tasted good. The sauce was on point. I also ordered the fist tacos which tasted delicious as well. The only reason why I'm not rating five stars is because I felt like both the oysters and the fish tacos were too small to be quite enjoyable. The oysters were definitely smaller than ones I've gotten elsewhere and the fish tacos were gone in 2 bites! Would only recommend for three happy hour prices. Otherwise, not are if its worth it.

Yelp
Went to Fonda last night for an early dinner with a guest from Brooklyn. We would always go there with her family when they were in town. I have gone for years, sitting at the bar and having a great steak. Then ownership changed. The good bartenders left. Great MaitreD left. When we arrived we sat at a table outside and my friend asked if she could get coffee right away and I asked for water. It took 30 minutes and asking twice more before her coffee arrived. Had to go in and ask for someone to take our order. The waiter came back out 10 minutes later and asked what I had ordered. Consequently my friend's tacos came before my entree, and before we had finished our guac and chips. She was completely done eating before my entree came. This is not right, and definitely not how other restaurants operate. The steak was tasteless; the onion rings were not totally cooked and all stuck to each other. Hard to eat. Asked for our bill; again had to go inside to find the waiter in order to give him the money. Manager took the cash and disappeared upstairs to get our change. Waited another 15 minutes for that. Very disappointing. This used to be my favorite place. Not going back.

Yelp
I just love Fonda! The cooks are amazing, and so consistent with all of their dishes. I'm so thankful that Fonda made it through the coronavirus situation.

Yelp
Our hostess/waitress was super nice and the place is very cute. That's where my positive review ends. We ordered 2 glasses of wine for $12 each and we got a 1/4 of a glass, seriously the smallest pour I've ever seen. Our dishes were all between $12 and $17 and they were merely ok. Small portions and little taste. Our total bill was $63. One of my biggest pet peeve is to pay for food that is far worse than what I can make at home. Fonda was disappointing. We won't return.

Yelp
The amazingly lovingly prepared food was the star of the night, but in close second was the Margarita I desperately needed, all brought to our group by Coco and Beth who were gracious and attentive. A rare evening out with friends and high expectations met. Just all perfect. Tried half the menu and loved every bite. Thank you and will be back

Yelp
The food is pretty basic and portions are small, especially for how expensive they are. My review is 2 stars, only for the bottomless mimosas- which are a good deal. Also the cocktails in general are strong and worth it, imo.
