Restaurants Donate Perishable Food to Food Banks Amid COVID-19 Pandemic | Eater

"A national nonprofit founded in 2011 that uses an app and volunteer networks to coordinate food pickups and redirect surplus from licensed food businesses to communities in need; operating with roughly 7,500 volunteers across 25 communities in 17 states plus D.C., the group is well positioned to scale during the pandemic but is scrambling to find freezer storage and transportation (vans/box trucks) to hold and move donated food until demand arises." - Brenna Houck

Food Rescue US is an AMAZING non-profit service for the poor of MiamiDade County. They faithfully deliver to a number of locations like Miami Rescue Mission, Camillus House, Royalton, Amistad, etc. No one should be eating out of filthy dumpsters or trash cans in MiamiDade County. Orlando or Jacksonville maybe, but not MiamiDade County. The MRM meals are excellent. One Friday I had steak and Mac N Cheese that was better than the Whole Foods hot bar. Camillus House has real chefs like Chef OJ and feed the homeless better than at home. At the Royalton, Mrs. Hernandez is a faithful angel delivering quality food from Trader Joes or Whole Foods like lemons, limes, pineapple, kale, onions, strawberries, eggs, oat milk, cheese, chicken, steak, salmon, to nourish those battling late stage cancer, kidney dialysis, diabetes, etc. The Food Rescue US leadership (including Ms. Ellen and Miss Santacaterina are wonderful), and this is why MiamiDade County under Mayor Suarez and Mayor Cava lead Florida in terms of ending chronic homelessness so that residents can become productive members of this nation. Berkeley, CA and Atlanta, GA and Durham, NC please take note. Thank you!

Each week food rescue delivers boxes and boxes of delicious food from Trader Joe’s, and I can’t even begin to put into words how grateful the people who get their groceries are. Every Friday, after the delivery, I organize food rescue and make bags of groceries for 20-26 people/families. They get organic meat, fruit, veggies, eggs and so much more. On mondays I hear stories of what each different person tried, cooked, and how thankful they were for the food. It’s an AMAZING thing to be a part of and I am so lucky to have the ability to see first hand how it effects each person who partakes. Like I said before, I don’t have the words to tell you how thankful and wonderful food rescue is. So if you ever have a chance to be a part of it take my word for it you won’t regret it.
