Located in the brand new Google building, For Five Coffee is a sharp contrast to well, almost anything that has existed in the city. The multi story high ceilings create a sense of openness, the large windows provide both light and views of the street. The interior space is bustling, almost always near capacity. There is certainly an accolade to the owners for being able to fill such a massive space with customers. It's a contrast to question what a coffee shop should be: a cozy, warm tone, dimly lit establishment or a vast bright space such as this one? That answer will decidedly be answered by the guests themselves.
When it comes to the coffee, it is undoubtedly excellent. The whole guilt tripping, unnecessary, tipping tablet that everyone hates is there as well. Your customers hate it, so just get rid of it. If someone really wants to tip for going to the counter and already paying for the service of getting a coffee in the base price, set a QR code next to the register.
There are some pastries as well. The attention to beverage creation here is more limited than say, Land of a Thousand Hills down the street where matcha lattes are much tastier and sifted, but certainly better than one would find in a chain. There is also a bit of a non personal feel to the service here that I can now attest to after a few occasions. It always feels transactional. Nobody knows anyone by name, there is no conversational and it's a business like vibe. Some might like it, others might not, but that's how it is.
For Five is a beautiful coffee shop and a very welcome addition and contrast to Atlanta's coffee scene.
