The 19 Best Bakeries In Rome - Rome - The Infatuation

"Forno da Milvio sits on a lively cobblestone street in sight of the Colosseum, but the baked goods are borderline too delicious for you to notice the landmark. The breads are deeply flavorful with a perfect chew, while their pizza is light and airy, topped with everything from tangy tomato to mortadella, or chicory shoots and anchovies in the winter. Don’t miss the yeasty, crescent-shaped rolls stuffed with olives and escarole or sausage and cheese. The dough teeters on the edge of underbaked in the best possible way, and gets a final dusting of semolina flour for extra texture." - annie replogle

We were in the neighborhood when we noticed this place and decided to have lunch here. The selection was huge, we tried the classic arancini and it was amazing, something we’ve never tasted before!😋 The mortadella sandwich and the tomato focaccia were also extremely tasty! The servers were really nice, they helped us choose from the ‘menu’. We highly recommend trying their food, you will not regret it!

Google
Excellent pizza al taglio and delicious suppli. Crispy light crust and delicious sauce.

Google
A great place to get something to eat and the staff were friendly and attentive. There is plenty of selection to choose from including vegetarian and vegan items. The pizza is sold by the weight. The only thing they don't do hot drinks but thers a lot of cold drinks available.

Google
Decided to takeaway some pizza. Got there at around 6pm-ish and a lot of pizza have sold out already - testament to how good the pizzas are. Bought a simple one with green sauce on top. Yum yum yum. Very reasonably priced too.

Google
Awesome place to grab lunch, pizzas are terrific. They sell it by weight and warm them in the oven, the nice lady accidentally forgot our pizza and it burned the crust a little bit, so she gave us new pieces that were even bigger than the original ones. Highly recommend!

Felix Suwandy

Google
One of the better pizza by weight places we visited. The crust is thin and tasty. We visited this place twice in 6 days Rome. Can be very busy, but lines goes quickly.

Kimberly Dibble

Google
Best pizza we’ve had in Rome. Very flavorful and the crunch on the crust was just perfect.

Google
Great Pizza, great prices. Charges by the weight. Went a few times. Had a good variety which helps with a family of 5 who all like different things. Owner was very friendly and remembered us when we came back. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Forno da Milvio is a good option for some quick pizza. I came here after visiting the Colosseum and wandering nearby it. I came with one other person and we noticed there was a line. It took awhile until it was our turn and to be honest it felt a little chaotic inside. Once it got to us we asked for two different types of pizzas to share. They charge you by weight. Both of the pizzas were pretty good. Their crusts are a little thicker though and pretty filling. I got a pizza that had some very spicy meat on top which was my favorite. The other pizza we got was just okay. Besides their just made pizzas, they also had pastas and other items you can order. The guys behind the counter were nice. We asked for a new pizza fresh out the oven but they told us we had to get the one sitting there to finish it off. There is a casual dining area but it was all full when we tried to sit. Overall it was a mediocre experience.

Yelp
Just as I was about to pass from "hungry" to "hangry", I spotted the neon "pizza" sign and decided that this was going to be tonight's dinner. It's a bit off the beaten path and it's inexpensive. I'm a fan. Several different options for pizza on display and I chose the most interesting and colorful one. Something with peppers and onions and smoked salmon. Weird but sure, why not. It's sold the usual Italian way - by weight. Pick a size, they cut it and weight it and then warm it up. My pizza was ready in a few minutes and I paid for it with a beer and sat in the back to enjoy. It's hard to go wrong at €8.40 and this was delicious. Maybe it could have spent some more time in the oven but it was still tasty. Great option for great inexpensive pizza in a spot that likely doesn't get too busy with other tourists. [Review 19109 overall - 284 in Italy - 79 of 2023.]

Yelp
Delicious and friendly staff. They weigh your pizza. Options for toppings included basil, tomato, mushroom, spicy salami, onions.and more.

Yelp
Anyone who spends significant time in Rome eats lots of pizza. This is the BEST pizza in the city. Worth the walk, ride or however you get there - find this place! And service could not be better for a 'grab and go' pizza joint.

Yelp
My first bite of pizza in Rome. I've never seen pizza sold by weight. Lol It's good but I think I should've asked them to toast it for me.. the pizza was cold when I eat ...

Yelp
If you find yourself in Rome and seeking "non-tourist" trap places then you must try this place out. Good quality food ( aka fresh ingredients) at a good price! As they say... don't judge a book by its cover. It might not be fancy but it's a great place for a quick lunch or late night bite. Myself and hubby had lunch here before strolling to the colosseum. We had a margarita and vegetable pizza. They charge by weight so you choose how much you want. We paid 7 euros for quite a decent amount of pizza which is super cheap compared to how much you'll pay at a restaurant. A coke was about €1.50. There are loads of different types of foods like pizza ( so many types), pasta, vegetables, lasagne, suppli ( risotto fried ball with cheese in the middle), salads, desserts, etc. You know this place is authentic when you see yourself eating surrounded by local Italians. There is the stamp of approval right there. This place was so good that we caught a taxi the next day to get yet another pizza fix

Yelp
Found this place while staying 3 days in rome near the colosseum. The pizza was absolutely delicious!! Prices were very good as well. Definitely a hidden gem.

Yelp
On my last day in Rome, I was craving supplis (fried rice balls with cheese). We were at a pasta restaurant nearby and found this location. It was 7 minutes away by foot. The location is close to Colosseum but far away from the tourist traps. The pizza was delicious. It was crunchy, light, and flaky. I love that pizza from Rome is not drenched in tomato pizza sauce like in the U.S. and it's not greasy. The staff was super friendly and helpful. If you have questions about what the toppings were, they answered your questions. When you order the pizza, the pizza is heated up. If you make a stop, you must try the supplis. The supplis were so delicious. The combination between the rice and cheese were just so perfect and great. This location was bigger than the other places I went to eat at. In the back of the restaurant, there are plenty of tables to sit. Highly recommend.

Yelp
This place advertises gluten free options, but we walked in at 12pm on a Tuesday, and they said they had nothing available. Just wanted to let you know in case you were hoping to grab a quick and easy bite in Rome as another celiac! Maybe they have GF pizza slices sometimes, but definitely not always (and from the cashier's response to my request, perhaps rarely).

Yelp
What a great little place for lunch. As the other reviews state, you walk up to the counter and pick what you want and how much. You pay by weight. While they warm it up, pick out a drink. They have soft drinks, beer (behind the pay clerk) and wine. Food was very good. Pizza was very good and we had some croquettes. They had some very tasty looking panini sandwiches and a lot of pasta. Nice stop after walking about all day. They speak very good English.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious gluten free pizza! Wow, I'm so impressed. We've been traveling in Italy for a week and half now and this is the best pizza I've eaten. I am so mesmerized by the pizza I forgot to rave about their eggplant lasagna! This was delicious as well.
google avatar

Meg D.

Yelp
I love this pizza place! Gluten free options are amazing and the customer service is so great! My bf and I don't speak Italian and these guys are SOOO understanding with us. The food is great! Very quick and easy! It's perfect for take out and take back to your hotel to chill and enjoy!
google avatar

Joe D.

Yelp
Ate here twice. First time we did take away, and the food was so good cold back in the room that we wanted to try it hot at the restaurant. We were not upset. Great stop after the Colosseum, or after some drinking in the area. You pay by the weight of the food, so it depends how much you want.

Yelp
Fast service and delicious food!! It's a must try while in Rome. Had the onion pizza- yum!

Yelp
We were wandering around the sites in Rome and were a little hungry, so we decided to try some local pizza. This was amazing! They let us have a taste of their Blue cheese, potato, and radicchio pizza. It is the best pizza that i have had anywhere. We liked it so much that we bought 2 other types of pizza to go for only 2.50 euro! Worth 10 times the price.
google avatar

Jacob R.

Yelp
I loved this place 4 years ago, I cannot recommend it anymore, pizza was subpar and so many better options in Rome at same price point. I threw the rest of mine away. Sometimes the memory is more savory than reality.
google avatar

Daniel M.

Yelp
Nice chill spot on the way back to our hotel. Very accommodating staff and the food smells delicious. Had the fried rice ball with cheese inside, it was delicious. That and a bottle of white wine while resting our feet was a nice way to pause for an hour. Recommend this place for the small bites and great staff.
google avatar

Sherri S.

Yelp
The staff was friendly and accommodating. The food was great, loved the pizza with crisp crust and fresh ingredients, bruschetta and fresh pastry. A great dining experience while in Rome.

Yelp
Excellent take away pizza spot close to the Colosseo! Made sure to come back, as my sister and I found this spot 5 years ago. This was the best pizza I've had in Rome during each stay, and still surprisingly cheap! Had to bring the boyfriend this time, we had the pizza di patate and pizza di prosciutto. Both were so amazing, we'd honestly just eat here everyday if we could! There's also a delicious gelato spot a few doors further. Quite the one two punch.

Yelp
I ate here several times this past May, & enjoyed it very much. The have a large selection of dishes; pizza, pasta including gluten free (senza glutine) on demand, roast chicken, vegetarian dishes, etc. The place is rather austere, but I just ordered the food to go, bought some vino, & had some great meals on my hotels terrace. The food is priced by weight.

Yelp
Really impressed with this hole in the wall joint in Monti-- very close to Cavour metro stop. Very good pizza- lots of varieties and cheap. You pay by the kilo (they'll cut however much you want and weigh it). Couple slices pizza for two people was about 6 euros. You'll have to pay to get water though. They will heat up the pizza for you; for either eating at a table (yay for air conditioning!) or wrap it up in paper to go. They have many kinds of pizza: potato pizza, anchovy arugula & soft white cheese, white mozzarella mushroom and pork sausage, salami and rounds of mozzarella and a few other kinds. Also saw a sign on the wall that they do a half roasted chicken with baked potato for 6 euros I think. We'll be trying that next! And- the owners (I think it is the main chef guy and I'm guessing it is his wife that does the cash register) are very sweet- she was very pleased for us to take photos!

Yelp
If you want to try real italian pizza, here you have it! It's more like a Bar-fast food kind of thing (not negative). It's not a "romantic italian restaurant" with small tables and candles ... well, you know what I'm talking about... Here, you pick the amount of pizza, pasta or "home made" food you like and they put it on the balance - you either have it the place or you go. DELICIOUS! It's also nice to sit inside, have an italian wine or beer and enjoy the food. The boss has photos of all his guests from around the world pinned on the walls an it's a real familiar atmosphere as he comes by checks out if you like the food or to ask what you're up to in Rome. Always kind, always happy and never disturbing or anything like that. Absolutely recommended!

Pete W.

Yelp
Great place for pizza. Other dishes will be reheated in a microwave oven - a no-no for me. One server in particular loves to overcharge tourists. Despite it we came back a few times for pizza and just treated it as part of the Italian experience. So if you're on a budget beware.

Michael W.

Yelp
This is the way food should taste. The variety of pizza toppings is amazing. The owner is so creative with his offerings. I love how you can get as much or as little of any pizza you want and they just weigh it to tally up the price. Such great idea, though I always end up leaving with a full box, haha. The other thing I really like about this places is the energy, everyone that works greets you with a smile and the owner was always there. If you are in Rome, do yourself a favor and come here for quick bite to eat. You can thank me later.

Michelle S.

Yelp
This was one of our favorite pizza places in all of Italy. Rome was our last stop, and we stayed right around the corner from Forno da Milvio. it was great because you could try many varieties since you pay by the kilo. They are very nice and they even give you samples. Perfect location close to the Coloseum but far enough away from all the hustle and bustle. Oh, and the owner is really nice!
google avatar

Terri P.

Yelp
Great local pizza place not far from the colosseum, but far enough from the tourist traps. You pay by the pound, and it is such a great value! Even sodas are less than most other shops. We ate here twice in three days since it was good, inexpensive and convenient. Some of those working there speak English, but most do not.

S I.

Yelp
This was our favourite pizza spot in Rome hands down. Sauce tastes wonderful and really stands out from other pizzerias'. Kind staff and down-to-earth atmosphere. Enjoyed every bite of my food there.
google avatar

Jonathan E.

Yelp
For how hidden it is from the main roads, this venue seems to lack some authentic taste. Seems as if though it's rushed.. I get that it's fast food, shoot pizza is fast food. But here there's no sense of real Italian cuisine. Don't mean to offend but there's New York pizza shops that are better. I even dragged my friends to search for it. And when we finally found it I was highly disappointed. The tomatoes were horrible and tasted bitter, and the pizza was so poorly warmed up the cheese was still hard. I don't advise you to go to this place at all.

Chad F.

Yelp
Excellent choices though obviously pizza is there thing. Indoor dining. Helpful servers (really glad I didn't order that tuna pizza I was pointing at). Inexpensive. convenient to Colosseum area but a couple blocks from that insanity. Will touch base here several times during our stay in the neighborhood.
google avatar

Daniel W.

Yelp
Simple quick serve place but their pizza and paninis are very good for the price. This place saved us on more than one occasion because they are open so late. Make sure you order first and pick out any drinks you'd like from the cooler, then they will weigh the pizza, add your drinks and print out a receipt for you. You can then bring your receipt to the register by the entrance to pay while they warm it up for you.
google avatar

Kathy I.

Yelp
Third and best pizza since we arrived in Italy. Fast friendly counter service: you choose from the display, they'll warm it in the pizza oven, and you can "take away" or eat it there. They also had sandwiches, veggies, fried croquettes, some desserts, and drinks. Reasonable prices too!
google avatar

Angel W.

Yelp
A great place for a quick and delicious bite to eat in a cool part of Rome that won't break the bank. Food is paid at the counter by weight so needless to say the interior is basic and unfussy but their is surprisingly tonnes of options (vegetarian options too) and it will fill you up until dinner for less than ten euros!

Matt D.

Yelp
There are so many tourist traps in form of restaurants in Rome, and this bakery was better than all of them. I had a mini onion pizza and a chicken meal as well - they were both amazing. The staff doesn't really speak any English, and they are not fake-nice so for some they may seem impatient. But once you chat them up a little, they're very nice. I highly recommend if you're in the area, and if you would rather have a great meal for 10 Euros instead of an expensive yet mediocre one in one of the many bad restaurants...

G K.

Yelp
Wonderful find! Very warm and welcoming. .lWe stopped for lunch. Wide variety of pizzas by the kilo ( so you let them know how big or little you want the slice to be). Also had other small bites. I had a fried rice ball with beef in the middle. There were several different kinds of those. Helpful staff. There were so many types of pizzas to choose from. They even gave us samples! We will definitely go back if in Roma again!
google avatar

Matthew K.

Yelp
If it's late...and you're in Rome...and you want to eat food...this is pretty much the place to go. Whether you've been out at a bar and are hankering for a pizza at 2am, or your performance of La Boheme runs really late at the Baths of Caracalla...you can stroll on in, give Milvio a high five, and eat some REALLY delicious Neapolitan pizza-donuts...I really don't know what they were, but they were savory, pizza-like, donut-esque, and the wonderfully kind lady said they were from Naples. Of course, after you've eaten 27 pizza donuts, what harm can some deliciously sweet pastries do? Have those too.
google avatar

Vannie N.

Yelp
We came here after visiting the colosseum. It's on a street with other restaurants. Pizza is priced on weight but still cheap. Pizza is pretty good here and it has other types of food. My husband got the sausage with spinach pizza and I got the salami pizza. The salami pizza was pretty tasty compared to the sausage pizza.

Simone H.

Yelp
I am finally sitting down to update! We went back and had dinner here (a few kinds of pizza) and more dessert. Of the four we tried - margherita with olives and herbs, potato, mushroom, and four cheese - the margherita with olives was the best. The tomato sauce was slightly spicy and it was perfectly seasoned with fresh herbs. That said, the dessert here is still what we'd come back for. And of course the amazing service!

Amy L.

Yelp
Great food at reasonable prices! Best pasta we had since we got to Rome. Make sure to order the cannoli- much better than anything in the US. The owners are very nice and understand English, even though they primarily speak Italian.

Amy S.

Yelp
Lots of great choices and friendly staff. Food was excellent! Space is small but the inexpensive food makes it worth it.
