Montreal’s Best Bakeries for Bread | Eater Montreal

"The smell of fresh baked breads lures patrons off of Greene Avenue and upstairs into this Italian bakery offering traditional baguettes alongside a variety of loaves like challah, ciabatta, and country, as well as double chocolate, lemon poppyseed, cheese and egg, and more. They also serve sandwiches, flatbread pizzas, and a vast assortment of Italian sweets including cannoli, cornetto, bombolone, and tiramisu." - Mallory Frayn

I am a loyal customer and truly enjoy your pastries, always recommending them to all my friends. Unfortunately, I had two very disappointing experiences over the past week, and I wanted to share them in hopes that management will see this comment and take action. It seems that the quality of your pastries has declined. This week, I bought your pistachio cream pastry, and the white cream under the pistachios was extremely bitter and unpleasant. Yesterday, I also purchased a ciabatta baguette. I even asked the salesperson if it was fresh, and they said yes. However, it was so hard that it hurt my and my wife’s mouths, and I personally had tooth pain for several hours afterward. Today, I visited again for a coffee and mentioned my complaint to the same salesperson, but they replied, “We are only sellers; we just sell whatever they bring to us.” That answer was truly shocking. Lastly, the tables are always dirty, and there are no napkins available on them. Overall, the service has become very poor. If the management does not implement better supervision, you will soon lose many loyal customers.

I want to be specific about my experience with the food. I ordered the Caprese, which was advertised as including pesto, but there was absolutely no trace of pesto in it. None at all! Additionally, it was served cold. When I asked if it could be warmed up, I was told, “No, the oven is just heating up,” and this was at 9:15 AM. If reheating wasn’t possible, they should have informed me beforehand so I could’ve made a different choice. On top of that, the service was disappointing. The staff member didn’t greet us or smile when we walked in, which set a negative tone right from the start. Overall, very poor service. As shown in the photo, I had only taken two bites from the first half of the bread.

When this Italian fine food store first opened, it was amazing — great variety, authentic products, and fair prices. I came back a few weeks ago and couldn’t believe it: the olive oil I used to buy for $20 is now $45! Are they out of their mind? On top of that, when I asked about prices (which weren’t even displayed), the cashier was unhelpful and didn’t seem interested in working. Sadly, the selection isn’t as good as it used to be either. Really disappointing to see how much it’s gone downhill.

How bad does a cupcake have to be for a 9 year old to not want to eat it? On her birthday. I got to find out. These were the worst cupcakes I had ever bought. They were supposed to be red velvet cupcakes for a birthday for a 9 year old girl. I have included photos of both the receipt and the cupcakes. Needless to say it was $46 poorly spent. Now I am not sure what I was expecting for 8 cupcakes that cost $46 but I certainly didn’t receive it. So, I brought them back for the owner to taste for herself. I had previously had good service here so I was extremely disappointed for what followed. I left the cupcakes and asked for the owner to call me once she had tasted them. She called me after a member of her staff had tasted them… fine. When I said I was not happy with the experience she began to use phrases like “well it’s not me but my staff” to shift blame away from herself. Hint: if you are the owner of the business take responsibility and apologize for the bad experience. She did not do that. She refused to do that. Regardless, I will never go there again. Note: this was originally a 5 start review with the text “Very helpful staff.”

Visited this place for the first time this weekend. Ordered pizza, spinach roll, mortadella pistachio panini, lobster tail, Nutella cornetto and coffee. Everything was excellent and so tasty!! The only thing i didn't care for was the mortadella panini with pistachio cream... Just too much pistachio for me taste. My favorite part had to be the Nutella cornetto... Omg... Sooo delicious.. A must try if you like chocolate!! See my pictures!!

I would have given zero if I could. I just left from there. I bought a Baguette that was priced at $3.85 and it was clearly displayed. I was charged $4.50 for it. When I was leaving I realized the mistake they made. They refused to refund me the difference and said they needed a Manager to do that and offered to give me an item worth the difference they charged me. There was nine, as all items were priced higher than the difference. That was unacceptable. I asked for a refund and insisted. She quickly proceeded to refund and that took only few seconds

MUST VISIT AND UNDERRATED. I can’t believe I’ve never reviewed this place. I’m literally here every Sunday morning. This spot has some of the best pastries on the island. I absolutely love their pistachio bombolone and they have a SPECIAL Pistachio Lobster Tail. Unmissable experience ! A must try.

Yelp
Disappointing. It's an Italian bakery with some French pastries mixed in (don't ever try to go to a bakery that does both). I avoided the French stuff, and went for the Italian pastries to check their quality. Lemon Bomboloni (cream filled doughnut) - disgusting. It was pure, cold cream, no lemon flavour. Took one bite, tossed it. Dough was decent though. Pistachio Bomboloni - delicious. Very pistachio like and the only reason why it's getting 2 stars and not one. It was very good. Soft, fresh, well made. Lemon biscuit - dry as the Sahara desert. I ate it anyway because I was hungry and I wasted $14 on 3 treats, one of which I had to throw away. Would I come back? Yes for the pistachio doughnut. No to the rest though I may give some other Italian pastries a try. Typical, overpriced bakery serving rich people who have no sense of what is a good bakery or not, just that it's convenient, much like that bakery on Sherbrooke (Pugastel) that I can't even figure out why and how it stays in business due to its dismal offerings. This one at least, has a good pistachio doughnut.

Yelp
This is a new bakery and hasn't been open too long I think. I have gotten takeout from them many times during the pandemic and lots of their fresh bread - there's nothing like fresh bread with a soft fluffy interior and a crisp crackly crust. They also have a great selection of lovely pastries, my favourites are the ones topped with lots of fresh fruit. I don't know where they're sourcing those lovely berries from in this season, they're always huge and juicy! The pastry cream is always lovely, rich, and smooth. I also really enjoyed their cannoli. They also offer a lot of ready to heat italian meals, like canelloni (my favourite so far) with a soft cheese filling, chicken parmesan, eggplant parmesan, and cannelloni made from eggplant(?) Not sure what the name is. The food is decent but I'm not a huge fan of the eggplant. The eggplant itself is a bit tough and underseasoned. The chicken was a bit dry. But ready prepared food is never going to be the same as fresh restaurant quality - it's good for what it is. Altogether a very nice place.

Yelp
Wonderful pastries and great service. It was easy and delicious, especially the cookies!

Yelp
Amazingly good! Definitely recommend coming here if you're in the area. Everything was fresh and tasty and there is a nice patio area to enjoy your pastries!
