I feel as though I'll rock the boat by giving two stars, but I find this place super pretentious. (And honestly, I don't think the owners would disagree.) This is the kind of place where you either go in and have the best experience of your life, or you go there and find yourself confused by the menu, so you spend $16 for a glass of wine that tastes like copper and drink it with all your layers on because it's abysmal and cold.
I may have had the latter experience.
The location is certainly lacking fanfare, and I can appreciate the absence of a gaudy exterior, but I walked right by it before I realized I'd missed it. When the place is empty (as it was when we came in...there may have been one or two other people there), it feels verrrry empty. I wouldn't dream of sitting anywhere other than the bar. I was assuming it was a "wine bar," but there was a large selection of beers and other drinks.
I'm a Malbec kind of person, and I didn't know how to order (there are no descriptions about the wines on the chalkboard), so I asked for a taste of the reds (I was not told which was which or given much information about them). I chose the one that tasted the least intolerable, but it happened to be rather pricey. Trader Joe's $4 wine can do what Spain cannot, apparently.
