food - while i do not remember if i've ever tried the egg foo young when my mom has food - while i do not remember if i've ever tried the egg foo young when my mom has got it from the restaurant before, i'm certain she has mentioned the dish to me before because that name is unforgettable. that said, the food itself was pleasantly surprising compared to what i'd expected it to be based off reading the description from a menu my mom has on her fridge. although the grey color of the gravy atop the dish might not have the most appetizing appearance for some people, i recognized from previous experience eating gravy that the thickened texture of it suggested a really good taste, and that estimate was confirmed from my first bite. the patties of the egg foo young also challenged and exceeded my expectations, as i was anticipating a shape and texture similar to a crab cake, though the patties actually reminded me more of biscuits in the shape and texture of the exterior, with an interior reminiscent of a veggie quiche. all that to say, the dish was excellent, and stands out among the several carry-out asian food i've ever tried. and the sprite i ordered with the meal made for a refreshing compliment to the filling plate of food.
service - the service i received was all timely and pleasant. my primary interaction was with a guy at the counter who received my order and then went to the kitchen to assist in its fulfillment. the skill he displayed in floating in such a way was outstanding in itself, and then additionally he impressed me by following the lady who delivered the food to personally deliver the drink. that gesture conveyed to me an expert attention to detail in delivering personable customer service.
ambiance - the ambiance i'd observed achieved a simple, nuanced balance between culture and tradition. i especially appreciate the neutral white-colored wall that highlighted the intricate, vibrantly colored artwork on display. also, a traditional portrait of ronald reagan in western wear juxtaposes uniquely with the traditional chinese paintings and bonsai tree that also comprise the restaurant decor, and while likely not intended to be overtly symbolic, that juxtaposition suggests to me a deep-rooted pride in american culture, of which food traditions are important.
