Fosselman's Ice Cream is a time capsule, both in turns of preserving their family-owned ice cream making tradition for generations and showcasing their original Fosselman's Ice Cream relics and memorabilia in their museum-like display cases. (Don't forget to look to your right, above the seating area to spot this little curated exhibition.)
When you enter the front door you are transported to the sweetest parts of America in the mid-50s with a classic ice cream parol aesthetic, youngsters behind the counter eagerly calling out to help you with a sample or two, sweet-tooth connoisseurs waiting in a long line on a boiling hot day and, yes, the "cash only" sign you see only once you are ready to pay with your handy dandy convenient credit card. (Note: Wells Fargo is next door if you need last minute cash.) But don't get mad yet...because when you finally sink your tastebuds into their ice cream or sorbets all your worry will go away. With an extensive list of flavors - some are seasonal or rotate from time to time - you are sure to fall in love with one. My all time favorite is Horchata ice cream! For those savers out there, I recommend getting a half-gallon to-go and take it to your next party - just don't forget to sprinkle a little cinnamon on top before enjoying!
If you don't mind the lines, cash only policy, and small parking lot...then you, too, will love this place just like me and so many others for the past century(!!!).
Last recommendations: street parking instead of the on-site parking lot because it's small and usually already full, small package candy and brownies are sold at a steal of a price ($1-4), tip your ice cream scooping teenager, and their website appears to be out of date so just walk in before they close at 10p for the updated list of flavors and ice cream cake/pie selection. (Yes, they even sell cones and candles, too.) Enjoy this little slice of history in every scoop!
