Foster Burger

It was my first time here and we came here for burger week. The Jimmy Pesto was delicious! The burger was on the smaller side, but it was cooked nicely. The sweet and tangy taste of balsamic reduction was a perfect touch to the burger. We also ordered poutine, but I wasn't too impressed. The fries were not crispy and didn't care for the taste of vegetable gravy. My toddler loved it though, and he's a picky eater. Our waiter was nice and friendly, and we got our food pretty quickly. There was no wait around 5pm Monday, but the place started to fill up as we were leaving. I look forward to coming back to try some of their other burgers and milkshakes!

08/10/16: 4 out of 5 - One of the runners from the Wednesday running group suggested Foster Burgers due to it being National Burger Week, which made this place busy. Well, this place was pretty good considering the craziness of the occasion. Our server looked worked, but he did good keep us attended. The food was tasty ranging from the Poutine to my Double Chipotle BBQ (see the pictures). Although in SE Portland, consider coming out to Foster Burgers and try this place once and decide for yourself. I had a pleasant time and definitely will be returning.

Freaking excellent food. Had the lamb burger and Woodstock Poutine (fries). The food was out freakishly fast. I left absolutely stuffed on excellent food and still wanting more. I'll definitely be by next time I'm in Portland. Best food I've had here yet!

I love this joint! Foster Burger is an old favorite anytime we're in PDX. I cannot get enough of these burgers!!!

Best turkey burger ever. The pattie was served searing hot right off the grill. A fresh nun that was hearty enough to keep up with the flavors and mechanical demmands of all those ingrediants and sauces.

Burger was great. Their foster sauce is really good. Chili cheese fries were delicious. Service was friendly and the the pricing was fair. Will be back.

I'm so happy this place is close to me! I love their burgers, from the simple to the fancy. The meat is well-seasoned, they understand the meaning of medium well, and the house sauce is very tasty. I mostly order take out from here. When I do dine in the staff is always friendly and food comes in a timely manner. I appreciate the little things like that. I dropped in for Burger Week as well and was very impressed with their offering. I thought maybe it would be much smaller than the regular burger -- nope. And no one in the place acted like it was some terrible burden to deal with people who wanted a $5 burger. Love this place, will be back for more.

I'm credible customer service! Our waiter was so down to earth he could've joined our table. The food was super filling! Just the small chili chese fries alone did the job and then had the pineapple burger on top of it. The drinks are great too! The food is so good I think of Foster burger as a restaurant and then I remember that it's a bar that's open til late.

So a group of 4 of us went to Thunderbird on a Saturday evening for dinner and drinks. The inside was low lighting, music playing, lots of seating. We sat outside where there were heaters on timers so it never got uncomfortably warm and didn't stay too cold for long. Now for my favorite part, the food! You order your food and drinks at the bar and a server will bring it to your table. I ordered the Brussels Bowl which had kale, rice, BBQ tofu, and brussel sprouts. It was a beautiful bowl full of great flavor. My husband ordered the TBird Vegan Philly made with impossible crumbles. It looked really good and he enjoyed it. We also ordered the Smash Impossible Sliders - grilled onions, thunder sauce and vegan cheddar. The non vegan items that were ordered: Smoke Stack Burger Foster Rd. Burger Onion Rings with Srirancha I recommend for anyone looking for a bar with meat and veggie options. Perfect place to bring friends or a date!

First visit to the Thunderbird for me, though it had been on my radar for a while. Did lunch and food was good, ambience was good, and I enjoyed the venue. It was not busy. One man was working the bar and serving. An individual in the back was cooking. Took a look at the outdoor seating which looked inviting. Was too chilly to sit outside that day, unfortunately. Definitely dive vibe - which I like. Will look forward to a return visit.

Always enjoy stopping here for drinks, but this was my first time eating. Chicken Caesar wrap, standard food item right, but damnnnn it was delicious! The dressing tasted homemade and the chicken was juicy and not overcooked. Will definitely eat here again.

I was aggressively man-handled by a patron they severely over served. It's expensive. They only have an internet jukebox. I don't see myself coming back.

This might be the most Portland bar I have ever entered. I have never been here before, so impressions first. It's a little dim and a little noisy with music. It has genuine old hardwood floors and classic diner/bar furniture. It might be considered a dive, though it is a little larger than an average dive. And the food is Portland Dive. There is a strong emphasis on vegan and gluten free options, while still serving beef and chicken. They have rotating Dreamcakes (vegan) and vegan/vegetarian poutine. Pick your own seat and order at the bar. I got their TBird Margarita. A simple drink, on the rocks, not sweet and very tasty. I think it is a house mix. They have an interesting selection of n/a beverages, too. I ordered a Foster Burger, with gf bun and vegan provolone, tots, and a dreamcake. The husband ordered a Swiss burger. Burger is here. I need a moment. Oh, yum! It's a real burger. The kind of burger where good ingredients shine and make simplicity into an art. And the cake is good. Fairly moist, not too sweet, rich. Yes, you should try this place out. Especially if you need to accommodate dietary restrictions or a mixed group.

Neighborhood bar - absolutely one of my favorite! Great staff and tons of seating. Lively atmosphere every night. Their menu has vegetarian, vegan, gluten free and meat options!

Their food is so good and the prices are really reasonable. They have so many vegan options and a few that are not vegan. Their sauces are handmade and delicious! Whenever I'm in their the staff that drop your food off are so nice and always ask if you need anything else. They have a beautiful space with lots of plants and the option for outdoor seating. Although parking in the neighborhood is a little tough, it's worth the short walk for the great food and overall vibe!

I've been here a few times and love this place! I'm familiar with their bar group and always know I'll have tasty food and solid drink options especially for a good dry cider. The space is roaming with a broad range of seating options. Don't be intimidated by parking, there's lots of parking behind it!

A great spot on Foster to take your veggie and vegan pals. Their tofu is cooked perfectly and the sweet potato fries are delightfully crispy. Friendly bartenders that make a clever cocktail. Can get busy but food seems to come out fast. Great patio in the summer time too!

The mushroom Swiss burger is to die for, and the side salad is one of the best I've ever had! Not just a pile of lettuce, but lots of veggies. Service is excellent! They can get a bit busy but plenty of seating between out and in.

Yes, A great place that is open during the day on Monday. It was a little quiet when we arrived, but we told the guy at the bar we had only 40 minutes. He said "no problem," and true to his word we were in and out in 40 minutes. The other great thing is they offer Happy Hour 12PM to 5PM Monday through Friday, so even more reason to go mid-day. We ordered two things from the Happy Hour menu; brussel sprouts and my husband had the Vegan BLT. Both were delicious. I also appreciated that they had fun mocktails. as I currently can't drink and am getting bored of water and tea. I would like to return when I can drink as they have a great cocktail menu.

As a vegan celiacer who typically can never eat out because it is unsafe and some kind of cross-contamination will inevitably occur: Thunderbird is one of the best. I love the Berkeley Salad but it's all scrumptious. And you can bring your meat-eating friends, too! Thunderbird deserves special kudos for their sweet potato fries as well. They are thick! None of those shoe strings that just flop and mush! And the most gently crisped exterior. No soggy crap. Just phenomenal. Service is always attentive and helpful. A genuinely pleasant place to hang, eat, and drink!

I used to miss Foster Burget, but I must admit Thunderbird is a wonderful replacement Food is great, drink choices are great, and back patio is very welcoming.

What's the word? THUNDERBIRD!! If ya know, ya know. Now I'm not sure if they serve up the classic bumwine here but the drinks they do serve up are pretty fantastic. I found this place after seeing that White Owl Social Club kicked their Vegan menu to the curb. Thunderbird is the exact opposite. Their menu is "95% vegan and vegetarian, and 5% for meat-eaters, we are 100% for everyone. With food so good, how can you argue otherwise? We ordered the Kale Caesar and Philly Cheesesteak. The Caesar was fine, maybe could've used more dressing but the star was the Impossible in the Cheesesteak. I suppose it's more of a chopped cheese but I'm not a snob and this was fucking good! I swear by Jay's in San Francisco and this puts them to shame! Flavors of Vegan cheese, Impossible, peppers, perfect bread all come together perfectly. One of the best things I've eaten in Portland! As for the drinks, yours truly finally got to try a couple of sours that are normally made with egg whites. They use aquafaba over here. Turns out, I'm a fan of chickpea juice in my whiskey cocktails. Who knew that could work so well? At $9 it's not too much to ask for an exquisitely crafted cocktail. Might just be my new favorite bar in Portland!

Searched for brussel sprouts to fulfill a craving. Their appetizer knocked it out of the ballpark. The non-vegans in group even found some real chicken options they enjoyed. To go bag was delightfully decorated with a marker. Meal was a hit with our group. Will be returning soon!

What a cute place with FREE pool! I was surprising shocked when a friend asked me to meet her at her local bar. The atmosphere inside was adorable with odd amazing art. They have a gray pool table and the bar is fully stocked. I enjoyed their frozen froze which was delicious. Off of the food menu I ordered their Brussel sprouts and sweet potato fries. I have to say they were delicious. I'm not a vegan but there were so many vegan options available. It's rare to find a good bar with great drinks and food. I wish I lived closer because this would totally be my go to bar.

First off, I've never walked into a bar, sat down and heard one of my favorite bands playing over the speakers. No bar ever plays the Cocteau Twins. I'm sure it was a Pandora list but it was literally all my faves. Second, I ordered their Porch Swing cocktail and damn, it was so good I immediately had to have another. Although I was quite tipsy after that, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Will be back again for sure.

The food was stellar and the ambiance was super too. Love the back patio too. As someone who is a social smoker, I'm glad they have room for us. People complain about being on a patio with smokers...please y'all, just stop. You're outside. Relax. It's nice to know that some Portland bars still support everyone, not just non smokers.

Amazing vegan options above regular bar food. I loved the kale Caesar w vegan chicken. Great texture on tots and fries. Highly recommend.

Had a great time! Food was great, pool table was alright. Great mezcal selection. My time there was well spent, tummy was full, brain happy.

I love this place! I have tried their traditional cocktails, as well as gotten their Non-Alcoholic (NA Cocktails) and they hit the spot. Every single food item I have ordered from Thunderbird has been so delicious! I usually don't like veggie burgers, or any sort of sandwich because the bread or bun is a little too much for me. I am not gluten free or anything, but I tried something new the other day and ordered their sliders! They use buns from the Vietnamese Bakery next door (!!!). An Xuyen Bakery is the lot to the SouthEast from Thunderbird. My husband and I have ordered the sweet potato fries pretty much everytime we go, and it is nice to have so many vegetarian options in one place. Additionally, it is nice to have late-night eating available that is open past 8pm with real food! We lived in Hillsboro in 2020, and there was rarely any food options open that late, you either had to drive 45 minutes to go to town, eat cereal or wait 'til the next day. So, it is nice to have something so close to where we live with great food options open late. And, there slushies on Sunday is a great option regardless of what the weather is outside.

Such yummy food and drinks and a great atmosphere!! Service was very good aswell!! I didn't try any vegan food but the regular burgers, onion rings and fries were sooo good aswell!! Will be coming back to get a burger and drink very soon!

Vegan people of portland! You just don't even know how good the burgers are here. My gf and I get the Buffalo chicken sliders and a regular vegan burger (add an onion ring) and split the whole scene. So damn good!

This is my favorite place to eat! I first discovered it on Uber eats which it is not on anymore. But I felt myself craving it. My favorite thing is the sweet chili vegan sliders, the vegan kale ceaser, and the pontine fries. They have a full bar as well as yummy meat options. Love all the plants and hipster environment. I will be back!

I was quite impressed with the way Thunderbird handled our large group that came in yesterday for an early dinner and some drinks. I was worried about them taking 15 orders at once, but they nailed it. Our food came out much quicker than I expected, and they got everything right. The "chick'n" sliders I had were tasty and well presented, and the fries were crispy (but it obviously wasn't real meat). Most of their offerings are geared toward vegan / vegetarian preferences, but they do still have a few actual meat options for the larger burgers. Would have been nice to have a few more meat options, actually. For vegan bar food, this was good stuff, and the service was spot on. Very impressed.

Great food, the bartenders are the best, and the atmosphere is perfect for a place to hangout for a few drinks with friends. 100% recommended!

The drinks are great! Have only tried the vegan mushroom poutine fries but cant wait to come in to try more items. The poutine fries and drinks alone will have me returning. Love the space and the bartender was super sweet. Usually do not find warm bartender's in Oregon so it was a super nice experience.

*Update 3/2/22- the owner finally reached out to me and rectified the situation, apparently an error with entering my tip amount. Very happy this was resolved since my wife and I go here about once a week and really enjoy the food and atmosphere. Will be looking forward to returning. Check your bank account after using your card here! I was charged $422.10 for sliders, brussel sprouts and a beer. Tried reaching them via messenger, email and phone and nobody has responded. My bank is currently investigating it but since they don't give receipts it's gonna take time to prove. Can't believe this business would just ignore all contact from me over an obvious bill discrepancy.

Great place to grab a beer right after a hike in the gorge. The patio outside had a lot of seating so then that way we could sit with our dogs. We all got some delicious food, the fries and tots were great but you definitely need to order the Brussels sprouts. I had a bite of one of my friend's chickn sandwiches and it was super delicious. So happy that everything is vegan definitely a fun spot to hit up.

Thinderbird Bar is one of my favorite places to go with Humam T. The 1st thing I is ask is what the featured cake of the day is. And then I order it! Before I get a drink or have dinner. I like to order the Impossible Burger vegan sliders. The chef does some tricky magic with the seasonings, and they are super tasty. If we're not sharing fries, I like to get tots with ketchup and vegan ranch. The vegan ranch is yum! The atmosphere is so super cool and chill... I was hoping I would hear Maxwell's "Ascension" tonight. Thanx Nate and staff for the best service, food, and cake! We're really hoping our kids come to visit soon, so we can bring them here :)

Cool spot with nice cocktails. The vegan cesar salad was bomb just get extra dressing. I didn't like the poutine at all. I'd definitely try more things though!

Reallyyyy delicious vegan food (kale Caesar salad was SO good) and a cool/laidback ambiance! Not to mention $3 beers (which might be more standard in Oregon, but either way... amazing.) Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Portland.

Just wow. The food, drinks, and space are all great. Their menu has fantastic and creative vegan options. The bar has a variety of well designed indoor and outdoor spaces. I will definitely be back.

Went earlier tonight! Super affordable and delicious. No indoor seating area in the bar is close but you order at the bar and there's nobody there besides the bartender and you. I ordered the old impossible for $10 and a side of sweet potato fries for four dollars. The fries were really crispy and THICK. Crunch. Fresh! I also ordered a slushy margarita for six dollars and that was really delicious as well. You don't even taste the alcohol in the margarita. I really recommend the sliders. I shared with a friend, so you're basically paying five dollars for a burger. Would go again! Highly recommend. Friendly staff.

Drinks are good, food is bad. Vegan junk food down the street is better if you want vegan food. Salads, sandwiches and burgers here are all the same, no flavor. Too salty on the deep fried stuff. On the up side, a lot of drinks to choose from. Full bar and decent beer selection. Interior of the place is cool too. Art work and good music add to the overall goo vibes. Fan of their place, just not a fan of their food.

It's off to a good start. I was really excited to have this bar come to my hood. The atmosphere is nice & it's got a nice window view of Foster. Unfortunately, it also has a TV which is a distraction that Bye & Bye and Sweet Hereafter aren't missing. The service was quick & friendly and the drinks were nice. I will definitely come back to hang out & grab a drink. The food was not the best. I love HGS but the fries here were WAY too salty. Like, hard-to-eat salty. The Ol Reliable Burger was a nice & welcome veggie option to the area. The veggie rib salad was a lil underwhelming & way too spicy. Still, I'm excited to come back and see how they continue to evolve.

Cute spot with great food. We ordered the impossible slider burgers on the late night menu along with french fries. The sliders could use some cheese or an extra topping but this was my first time trying the Impossible patty, so it could be me. Rest of it was great and brought out promptly. Drinks were decent, especially the beer and shot combos. Music was a bit loud but totally hit the spot, we will be back!!!

I like a good burger. Sometimes I literally forget what I'm doing when I'm thinking about eating a good burger. Such is what happened when I walked into Thunderbird and ordered the Old Reliable (V), paid and sat outside. I did not expect a vegan burger, but I sure did order one. Now when that burger came out with perfect fries, (Perfect. Fries.) I was aghast. Where's the hunk of meat I expected? Not until I returned to the bar and the gentleman who took my order confirmed that i realized I done messed myself up. BUT! My night wasn't ruined, oh no. My dumbass kept that vegan burger, with crispy onion ring and Perfect Fries™ and in less time than it takes the Blazers to blow a 4th quarter lead I had a beautiful, cooked to perfection Foster Rd. Burger. Literally, the guy across the table noticed how good my burger looked. Not bad for a redo they had no real reason to offer me, right? My meal was delicious, my night was capped, and I am home with a renewed trust in the goodness of people. Thunderbird is a mostly vegan place that also has booze and stuff. They take the bar thing seriously, with covered outdoor seating and heaters and a projector for the aforementioned Blazers games. But I came for the burger and shall return.

This place is as close to a perfect bar as you can get. First of all, this place is welcoming from the second you step in. The design of the place is so cool with simple decorations and comfortable tables. The music is mellow and not roudy. The bartender was very nice and accommodating with a pleasant smile. They have great vegan options that are very tasty. The beer selections on tap could be better, but I am not complaining. Thank you Yelp for pointing this place out to me.

My boyfriend and I were looking for a place to grab a drink and came across Thunderbird. I'm a vegetarian and he's not, but this place was perfect for the both of us! It had such a great vibe and looked like a cool place to come with friends. Will definitely be coming back.

Best vegan sliders around! It's so good! I always get a variety of fried chicken and impossible and they are always delicious. I am always stoked on the sliders here. Service is always really good too.

Before covid we came here many times and had lovely experiences. We've only been ordering it to go since Covid but have still been loving everything. They have great vegan options I've had all of their burgers and recommend them all. The salad is a little wimpy but it's a bar, why are you ordering a salad anyway. Stick to the burgers and fries and you won't be disappointed. Sliders are a fun way to try a few burgers. And their Thunderbird sauce is amazing! They also have amazing customer service. Although they have a patio we will wait for COVID to be over before dining in again, but are happy with doing takeout until then!

Excellent vegan choices and a variety of good beverages. I order here online all the time and they never mess it up. I personally enjoy getting a variety of the vegan sliders. The garden slider and the chikn sliders are my favorite. The vegan mac is pretty good too with a HUGE portion, but maybe better not on take out for me because where i live is far. They have a seasonal slider that is always fun to try. Kale caesar is also a must have with house dressing and the chicken bits it is a huge portion. It even passes the picky kiddo eater test!!!

Adding this new dive bar to my list. They make great drinks and provide excellent service. A vast majority of the food menu are vegan but they also offer meat entrees (most of the burger menu). The sliders however are vegan and tastes just like a beef patty. On sundays, they offer refreshing F'Rose slush for $5. My favorite drinks here so far is the Impala and 6am to Iceland. Very solid pour of alcohol in each. There's an outside covered patio as well allowing for patrons to smoke and drink. Highly recommend this bar to anyone bar hopping on foster.
