Four Four South Village Review - New York - The Infatuation

"This Prince Street restaurant is the place for anyone who loves Taiwanese braised beef noodle soup as much as we do. You can return multiple times for variations on this dish alone: There’s the classic with just beef short rib, the classic with short rib and extremely tender tripe and tendon, tomato beef noodle soup, or spicy beef noodle soup. Each comes with ultra-springy noodles that retain their texture even as they sit in the broth for a while. The braised pork rice is equally great here, as is the aromatic sesame oil chicken soup. You can wash everything down with a milk tea or milk tea “slushie,” which is more smoothie-like. Food Rundown Braised Beef, Tendon, and Tripe Noodle Soup The beef in this soup tastes like it was braised for the better part of a day, and it pretty much dissolves in your mouth. You can always opt for the beef noodle soup with just short rib or tendon, but we prefer to go all out and add tripe as well. No matter which noodle soup you choose, they all come with ultra-springy noodles that retain their texture even as they sit in the broth. Spicy Beef Noodle Soup When it comes to spicy soup, a lot of places just add chili oil to their regular broth and call it a day. The spicy broth here, however, feels distinct, with a nice balance of chili oil, sesame oil, a hint of sweetness, and additional umami. Also, this comes topped with a generous amount of chili crisp. Need we say more? Taiwanese Braised Pork Rice In contrast to the minced pork typically found in lu rou fan, this dish boasts slabs of pork belly smothered with the aromatic soy, cinnamon, and anise-y braising sauce. The texture is pillowy, which may also remind you of your bed and your desire to take a nap after this meal. Bok choy and pickled cabbages on the side prevent this dish from being too decadent. Soybean Milk (Iced/Hot) The housemade soy milk here is about 10 times better than anything you’ll find on supermarket shelves. It has a subtle graininess, a robust nutty flavor, and a hint of sweetness that American companies usually avoid (because of the idea that soy milk is supposedly a health drink and is therefore supposed to be bland). Soy milk is meant to be this flavorful, and we love the version here at any temperature." - Diana Kuan

Noodle quality by far is the best Taiwanese place in NYC. The broth is light and bland, and the beef noodle soup tastes more on the pork side. I like the atmosphere in this little shop in East Village. The service is very poor, not much service here, but I blame it on the labor shortage. The place is not busy for lunch, and the price is fair compared to the price when they opened the first store in Flushing. Popcorn chicken is good, but I cannot compliment the cold dishes. In general this is a good spot to get a quick bite.

Google
Reasonable prices with generous portions. Would come here for a casual meal but not a friend gathering. I like the generous portion and the texture of the noodles. The beef roll was good. Although the outer layer (pancakes) was greasy, the cucumber and scallions buffered the grease and salty. The Luwei wasn't braised enough in my opinion. They got a lighter flavor than I expected, and you could tell it from the color of the cross sections. We ordered the three combo and pork ear, and all were fine but not strong enough for me.

Google
One of my favorite place to grab a quick Chinese meal. Born and grown up in China, I would say the dishes there are great and remind me of the food back at home. The staff there are quite pleasant as well, though do not expect the “how’s everything going” kinda service like you would get in some restaurants. But I personally prefer that they keep the service minimal so that I can enjoy my time with friends. Overall, strongly recommend if you like noodles and Chinese food!

I’m from Taiwan so I was super excited to try out this place! Overall it was good, but missing something in the taste. However, price was ok! Pork belly was good but slightly dried. But I appreciate the egg and veg they served together. Pork feet didn’t taste that good tbh. I felt how they flavor was not that impressive and a liiiitle bit weird. My friend ordered sesame oil chicken soup which soup part was good but the meat was again, slightly dry. Hope they could improve a little

As close as it gets when it comes to Taipei food stalls in NYC! The beef noodle is chewy (in a good way) which is pretty rare these day. The beef is cooked perfectly but the soup has an interesting mushroom taste to it - I like it but it’s not what I’m expecting from a traditional braise - can also use more supplements in the soup. The popcorn chicken is pretty good and although it could be more chewy I think it’s the best in NYC. The braise platter is okay. Lacks some flavor but the beef tripes was soft and flavorful.

Came here by accident and was pleasantly surprised. We got the 3 braised combo over rice and the fried pork chop over rice. All were pretty good not 5 star good but almost there. Was disappointed that both the soy milk and sweet sour plum juice were not home made. Would come back again.

If you have a hankering for some amazing Taiwanese food, head over to Four Four South Village. They have some of the best Taiwanese food I've had in the city. As per their website, they "invited the Chefs who have won the gold medal and silver medal of the International Section of Taipei International Beef Noodle Festival to be their R & D team." I ate their beef noodle soup and scallion pancake beef roll. They were both sublime.

Google
This place really hit the spot! Had the braised beef and tendon noodle soup and assorted luwei, both amazing! The noodle soup comes in a large portion with a lot of meat, very satisfying! We sat in their outdoor seating area and it felt very safe from people walking by since the sidewalk side is also half blocked. Service was great too! Would definitely come back!

Yelp
Legit Taiwanese in NYC! 4.25stars and rounded up. One of the best Taiwanese spots in Manhattan (there aren't that many). I've ordered takeout from here a few times, and tried the braised beef noodle soup, braised tomato, beef, tendon and tripe noodle soup, braised kelp knots and braised wood ear mushrooms. I appreciate the authentic flavors and preparations, and the noodle soups are a generous portion at decent prices. In the noodle soup I ate this week the meat, tendon and tripe were super tender. The noodles were perfectly cooked, and I loved that the takeout container had a separate compartment for the noodles so they didn't get soggy. The noodles themselves had good body and both stood up to the soup, and paired well with the heartiness of the meat. My only small gripe is that the soup and overall braised meat are a bit too salty (as most food in NYC is want to be). 25% less salt level in the latest noodle soup would've made the experience even more positive. The first time I had the beef noodle soup I don't recall it being as salty so maybe something to work on with consistency. The braised woodear mushrooms and the kelp knots are a treat--a bit of savory umami with a crunch (balanced with a bit of Chinese vinegar and a hint of chili pepper spice for the woodear mushrooms). I haven't tried the pigs ears yet, but plan to. These specialties really speak to traditional Taiwanese cooking and I love that these items are being represented in the NYC food scene!

Yelp
I went to this casual Taiwanese spot a while back with a group. The food here was overall tasty with the best thing being definitely the spicy beef & tendon noodle soup along with the braised beef with noodles which makes sense as it's a Taiwanese beef noodle spot. The rest of the dishes were still pretty tasty with a notable unique version of dan dan noodles. I didn't have a drink and I don't think anyone else did. Service was fine and the place is very casual. On a side note, I got a Tea Egg and I wouldn't really recommend it much as it lacked the flavor of most tea eggs. The first thing that arrived was one of the appetizers the Assorted Cold Dish with jade cucumber, black fungus in vinegar sauce, and spiced edamame. The portion was fine and they had a mixture of crunch and textures. It would be good to share though my preference of the mixtures was the Assorted Luwei with tofu, kelp knots, and boiled eggs. Referring to dishes braised in soy sauce, I particularly liked the kelp due to it's crunchy yet soft texture with the strips of tofu also being very tasty while the eggs as per the tea egg prior were alright. We also got as an appetizer the Spicy Braised Pig's Ear. A bunch of the other people at the table didn't really like this but I liked the texture mostly because I'm a fan of tendon and cartilage and this has that crunchy but soft texture almost like a crunchy jello. This spice was on the lighter end but it still had a little bit of heat. There was also the Seasonal Greens which were pretty tasty though not as necessary as most of the greens were included in the other dishes such as the pork chops and soups. There was also the Popcorn Chicken which had the usual white pepper and slight sweetness I associate with this version and it was solid and warm (though I wouldn't recommend it to go.) Overall, the appetizers were good but they aren't the star of this place. Best of the main dishes was as noted the Spicy Beef & Tendon Noodle Soup. Both the beef and the tendon in there were super tender. The noodles had the QQ texture I'd expect from a good Taiwanese spot. I have had richer beef noodle soups before but it was still well flavored and the bit of spice in there was a nice extra kick. A bit spicier by comparison was the Dan Dan Noodles which I was a bit surprised to see on the menu. They were prepared differently from the dan dan mein from other spots; more like a soupier noodle. By comparison to the beef/tendon noodle soup, it was more Sichuan peppercorn and spicier by comparison. Both were tasty with a slight preference to the former due to the different types of beef and I liked tasting the soup a bit better. We also got the Braised Beef With Noodles which is offered over rice or with noodles. Due to the great noodle texture, we got it over noodles of course. The beef again was tasty though I preferred it as a noodle soup. It was still good and I would order it on a different day. Our only non noodle dish was the Fried Pork Chops With Rice which was fine. The pork chops have the usual white pepper and light sweetness you find in this style though it was a bit chewy. Outside of the pork and rice, there was also some cucumbers and it came with half a boiled egg. This was as expected alright but I would recommend getting noodles as it's definitely their specialty.

Yelp
Came here after seeing the raving reviews from others. Ordered just the popcorn chicken, and it was ready immediately, which was a little worrisome for me. Since it's fried, if it's fresh, it should always take a bit of time. Once I saw and tasted it, I realized this definitely wasn't fresh. The chicken was soggy and lukewarm, and the meat itself was reminiscent of boiled chicken skin in terms of texture. The flavor was also just five spice, and I didn't get much salt or white pepper, which is the classic flavor profile that I'm familiar with. Overall, a disappointing meal, couldn't finish it. Perhaps I should have tried the noodle dishes, which had higher ratings, but likely won't be back after this experience

Yelp
Four Four South Village is an affordable Taiwanese spot with quick service. Went on a Saturday for lunch time and we were the only guests there, so we were seated immediately and service was very fast. Service was quick, quality of service was ok - This is an in and out type of place. The restaurant is spacious and you don't feel crammed at all, unlike many places in the area. Started off with the Jade Cucumber and Spiced Edamame. Both solid - if you are going to share the starters, get 2+ since the starters are portioned small. Got the Noodles with Beef & Braised sauce. The noodles were thick and tasty and the sauce was good. Recommend asking for some soy sauce and pouring a generous amount in - It really elevated the flavor and took the dish up a notch.

Yelp
The beef tomato soup was good and enjoyed the beef inside the soup as it was tender n not too chewy. It was a lot so I shared with girlfriend. The taro smoothie was good but annoyed of the ice inside, texture of smoothie was like a slushie instead of a smoothie. It also felt like I was drinking a milk tea not smoothie. The lemon slushie with mango was sweeter than taro on and I enjoyed it, you must stir it because of the blended ice that sits at the top. Small pieces of mango o at bottom that taste really good. The beef roll was good, beef was not chewy and is under a thin layer of some texture of a scallion pancake which look like water. Be careful when peeling off paper off it because paper is same color as the wrap that is over the beef. Inside of beef roll is thin cut up cucumbers.

Yelp
Excellent Taiwanese fare and beef noodle soup. We enjoyed all the side dishes -- pickled cucumber, wood ear mushroom, etc. Skip the oyster pancake. It was fine, but just not the pancake my heart has been searching for!
google avatar

Yelp
Food 6/10 Got takeout. Pretty solid dishes. We got the beef noodle soup and some side dishes. The noodles weren't as bouncy as I wished, but there was plenty of beef and so that made me happy.
google avatar

Kerrie D.

Yelp
Actually surprisingly great! Surprising because there was nobody sitting inside on a Saturday night at 7, although they seemed to be doing a thriving take out business! We ordered two orders of cold cucumbers, an order of wood ear mushrooms and two braised eggs before our mains arrived. For mains we shared a beef and noodle soup, a pork bun and a wrap where the rap seemed to be a scallion pancake, NICE!

Yelp
Real solid Taiwanese food. We got the regular and spicy beef noodle soup with tripe. Pretty good if you're craving it.

Yelp
many varieties of noodles. pretty big bowl. looks like they got loyalty program. you get 1 stamp for each bowl purchased, 10 stamps get your next bowl free

Yelp
Tomato beef noodle soup hands down the best item on the menu, I ordered this every time I come here and destroy the whole bowl. The flavors is savory and tangy at the same time. Meat was super tender you barely have to chew it, the noodles were cooked perfectly. Service is always fast.

Yelp
Very yummy noodle and good services. Good seating and location. Can go the next door have a beer too - one of the oldest bar!

Yelp
The good was in big portions, a little too salty for my taste. Average price in Manhattan.

Yelp
We came here for lunch on a Saturday around noon and like what other reviewers said, it was pretty empty. We asked to sit outside given that I brought my foster pup. He quickly unlocked one of the booths. We shared the cold dish which had cucumbers, ear mushrooms and edamame. It was ok. Then we split the popcorn chicken which was pretty disappointing. I don't think I would order that again. My friend got the beef noodle soup, which she said was just average. The broth tasted like it wasnt the delicious kind that would be cooking for hours. My Taiwanese bRaised pork was ok as well. I wish there were more vegetables.
google avatar

Betty Y.

Yelp
Although extremely oily, I really enjoyed my meal. I actually ordered 3 at once for myself, my husband, and a colleague of ours. To be honest, upon opening the container and seeing the noodles, I didn't think I'd like it. I thought it would be impossible for me to separate the noodles in the broth and that by the time I do, it would be all soggy. I was wrong. I really liked my meal! The spice, I feel like they can still kick it up a notch, it did not feel like much for me but it was spicy enough for my husband and colleague. I wonder if its possible to be less oily (probably not though) I'd order from here again.

Yelp
Omg so glad i stumbled on this hidden gem on a friday night! Thank goodness there was no wait either bc i was starving. Quick, friendly service. Bright interior. We ordered: - spicy braised pig ear: my favorite!!!! This is hands down the best pig ears ive ever eaten. Flavor and texture were perfect. A little mala tingle afterwards from the szechuan peppers. Highly recommend this! - braised tendon: my least fav bc the tendon soaked in all the salt and it was too soft for me. I like more chew in my tendon - spicy beef, tendon, tripe noodle soup: so good! Def would reorder next time. Noodles are just the right texture and the flavor is so good. - braised beef rice: very delicious and hearty dish. My husband loved this! I will definitely be back. Highly recommend yall check this place out! :)

Yelp
Really fast service and great dishes! My boyfriend introduced me to this spot since it's right by his job and he goes here all the time for lunch. I'm glad I trusted him, because the spicy beef noodles soup I had was amazing. Perfect amount of spice and the most delicious flavor of beef. The portions are pretty big and also perfect for sharing.
google avatar

Madeleine B.

Yelp
My friend and I came near closing on a weeknight so the place was basically empty. We shared the braised tofu appetizer which was tasty. I got the spicy beef noodle soup, and my friend got the normal braised beef soup. Everything was tasty and comforting.
google avatar

Jennifer W.

Yelp
Ordered their tomato beef and tendon noodles soup along with their noodles with soybean paste. Portions were decent, but the flavors were just OK, and it was a tad bit more than I'd normally pay though seemed on par for New York / given the location.
google avatar

Yelp
Great place for Taiwanese beef noodle soup ( my dad approves!) and he is very picky about his beef noodle soup, all the luwei sides are delicious too very classic flavors reminds me of my childhood. Service is great quick and courteous. I've been to two different locations in flushing and east village and they were both clean and well kept great eatery ambience.

Yelp
Looooovve! This place smells so incredible right as you walk in and reminds me of the beef noodle shops on Yong Kang St in Taipei. I really enjoyed the pork hock rice and beef tendon noodle soup, and their preserved mustard greens is particularly good. I also liked the pork burger and thought the presentation was beautiful!
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious food. I was seated in a corner table with my companion, and enjoyed the privacy and the electrical outlet nearby for charging my phone. I had the pig's feet rice with a cold cucumber salad side dish while my companion had one of their beef cold noodles. The cucumber salad was excellent, and the pig's feet was even better. Tender and not too chewy. Their cold noodles are pretty good too. Generous portions with both dishes, and the noodles weren't soggy. The service was excellent. Portions were large.

Yelp
One of the most authentic Taiwanese meals I've had in the city! No frills, homey, affordable -- all the things I love. My boyfriend and I had dinner here after watching Shang Chi on a Saturday evening. The place was on the quieter side, with only a few other parties dining in as well. We sat comfortably by the window, and never felt rushed. For apps/sides, we ordered the assorted luwei (braised egg, braised soybean curd, braised kelp knots - $6.95), the assorted cold dish (jade cucumber, black fungus, edamame - $5.95) and 2 pork gua bao ($4.95/each). All SO good. We especially recommend the cold dish - it's the perfect sampler of Asian appetizers and will go so well with your meal. The gua bao was also perfect, no complaints there. Next time I will try the beef roll! For the main event, I got the Tomato Beef Noodle Soup ($13.95) and bf got the Braised Beef & Tendon Noodle Soup ($13.95). We both LOVED our bowls - the noodles, the beef, the broth... everything was great. We asked for a side of chili oil that we enjoyed so much that we ended up asking to buy a small cup ($5) of it to bring home. We now use it on our dumplings, eggs, etc. We'll most definitely be returning for our Taiwanese fix!

Silvia S.

Yelp
I really wanted to like the food here but the beef noodle soup was so-so. The meat was tough and the broth was vinegary. I guess it's unfair to compare this to beef noodle soup in Taiwan but the broth just did not have much depth. The seaweed appetizer was also quite big and I don't know if this is a personal preference thing, but bc of how big each piece was, it just wasn't very appetizing. I was hoping for thin slices.
google avatar

Tony C.

Yelp
I visited their east village location on this occasion. I had the spicy beef and tendon noodle soup. It wasn't overly spicy which was perfect for me. The beef was super tender. The tendon was nice and chewy. This is a fantastic place for a quick beef noodle dish when the mood sets in.

Yelp
This was a really cute place that we wanted to try and for someone who loves soup, this was a must try! Ambiance: 5/5 lots of seating, clean area! Had a cute little wall that definitely had an authentic vibe. Food: 3/5 The Dandan noodles was soupier than I expected, but still good. Popcorn chicken was crispy but you need to ask them for sauce otherwise it would be too dry. Lastly, the braised beef noodle soup was good but wasn't too special. Kind of tasted like spicy water and beef. Service: 5/5 such nice workers, and very attentive. Thank you!
google avatar

Yelp
My favorite Taiwanese place in Manhattan! Authentic flavors that remind me of home. Quiet, bright spot with plenty of seating. I came here multiple times now with friends and we always get too much food, with huge bowls of braised beef noodle soup, Taiwanese popcorn chicken, and gua baos. The one thing I can't get enough of is the Pork Gua Bao. It's a sandwich bun with the most tender pork combined with delicious sweet sauce, peanuts, and a bit of cilantro. 100% recommend every time and to everyone! Would recommend and I'll be back always.

Yelp
Dropped on a rainy Spring day for lunch service at this Taiwanese beef noodle soup place on the edge of the East Village. Service was friendly and efficient, and decor was what you'd expect from a newish restaurant that sells their signature noodle soup for $12.95-$15.95, depending on options. Had the Beef Short Rib, Tendon, and Tripe noodle soup. It was super-delicious. I've been trying beef noodle soups here and there, and this one is definitely one of my favorites. Obviously, everyone has their own tastes, and I tend to shy away from super-spicy foods, but I felt it was just the right amount of spice, salt, and other stuff in the broth. The noodles were wonderfully fresh and chewy, and the beef was, well, beef. I love beef. Tendon was tender. Tripe.... eh, it wasn't for me, but I think that's just my relationship with tripe, not the way this restaurant prepared it. Came back on another day and tried the beef+tendon variation. Still super delicious and great textures for the meat and noodles. Bathrooms: Forgot to try them out. COVID: I felt safe; they seem pretty about safety. All in all, this is the perfect hot soup place on a rainy day!

Yelp
Recommend for a relaxing lunch with friends, family or even alone! Me and my friend arrived at 12pm on a Saturday and it was EMPTY :) which was not a problem cause I love having a lot of space! Literally a breath of fresh air We sat indoors though they do have seating outdoors as well. I got the Noodles with Beef & Braised Sauce while my friend got the Spicy Beef & Tendon Noodles Soup. We also got the Taiwanese Luwei Braised Soybean Curd to share. I loved my dish as I was aiming for something not spicy and not needing to deal with hot soup although my friend's dish was served closer to warm than hot. The garlic sauce on top of the beef was not overwhelming and packs the flavor needed to go with the slightly cold beef slices and noodles underneath. I tasted my friend's beef and found it rather gamey compared to mine. She agreed my beef was better. For super spicy eaters, I can confirm through my friend this was not spicy at all. Another friend joined later and got the tomato beef noodle soup which I noticed was served significantly hotter. She said it was good too. They also gave a lot more soybean curd than expected which is always a plus. Would I come again? Absolutely!

Yelp
a cute Taiwanese restaurant in east village! The noodle dishes were so refreshing. The noodles were springy and fresh, the sauces tasted really good. I recommend this if you're looking for Taiwanese eats in the area!

Yelp
Mediocre option for beef noodle soup. We ordered the spicy beef noodle soup with tendon/tripe and also the tomato beef noodle soup. The spicy beef noodle soup tasted purely like chili oil with really no other flavor. The tomato beef noodle soup was on the watery side. The beef was poor quality and rubbery/overcooked while the tendon was also overcooked to the point of being overly soft (it should have a bit of bounce/chew). Portions were good. Service was fast (~10min). Free classic bubble tea with $20 order. Milk tea was good, but tapioca was bad.
google avatar

Brian M.

Yelp
This place is good, but it could be great if they served the served the soup hot. The bowl of beef noodle soup I ordered came out lukewarm and I was able to eat it without blowing on it. Part of the experience of eating soup is wanting to eat eat but having to blow, slurp, and sip before it gets to a temperature that is some what manageable. Anyways, that's an easy fix so despite that the flavor was great and the noodles had a nice chew. I'd probably go back, but maybe not on a cold day when I'm craving something hot that will heal my soul.

Yelp
Came in in a Friday afternoon for a relaxing lunch. It was already my second visits. I quite like their beef soup. You can tell the soup was cooked long and the taste is strong and flavorful. The soup base is actually above the average of Taiwanese beef noodle soup we can get in NYC. The only I dont like is the options for noodles. They only have one choice of noodles which is thin but very firm. Maybe next time I will just order the soup without the noodles lol.

Susan F.

Yelp
We found this place by accident. It's quite unusual. The black fungus in vinegar and the spicy peanuts were delicious. We also had the braised tofu to complete an excellent light meal.

Yelp
The Braised Beef Rice is brilliant!
google avatar

Stephanie T.

Yelp
We came here on a rainy Sunday afternoon around 1:30 and it was really quiet which was nice. They quickly took our order and food also came out quickly. We got the braised pork over rice, beef noodle soup, and Dan Dan noodles. The braised pork was very tender and melt in your mouth. The beef noodle soup was also really good - noodles were cooked Al dente and had a nice bounce when you bit into them. The broth was also super flavorful - I kept on drinking spoonfuls of it. The Dan Dan noodles were super hot (both in temperature and spice). It was tad bit spicy for me to actually enjoy - it was very numbing. Try to order the soy milk to balance out the spice if you do get the Dan Dan noodles.

Yelp
The food is wonderful and the service is very good. Love the spicy dry noodle with beef.

Yelp
Craving some noodle soup on a chilly rainy day we came to four four south village which definitely satisfied our cravings. Tried the noodle soup with braised beef, tendon and tripe, spicy beef noodle soup, beef roll (beef pancake) and jade cucumbers. The jade cucumbers are a sweet pickled cucumbers, sliced thickly, this as refreshing, definitely try if you like pickles. The noodles are cooked perfectly, not soggy at all. They're generous with the portion of meats in each, each noodle bowl also came with a small amount of bok choy. The beef roll/pancake had braised beef and cucumbers in it with some hoisin sauce. The sauce was on the saltier side. They also offer some rice dishes and bubble teas. Service was pretty quick and servers were nice. They have a decent amount of seating and also a nice outdoor setup where each party has their own little hut.

Yelp
Really happy I got to try four four since I had been craving Taiwanese food, and this place certainly has its hits. To start, the beef noodle soup set the bar high-- noodles were chewy, broth was deep and spicy, and the meat was flavorful and tender. Same with the taiwanese braised pork rice which was brimming with pork belly!! I'm salivating thinking of it. With some tea eggs, this makes an ideal meal. Unfortunately the beef pancake missed the mark. The soybean sauce they used was so damn salty, i couldnt taste any of the braised beef. Also, instead of a light and flaky scallion pancake, it was oily and paper thin which was just crunchy and unsatisfying. I did enjoy that they offer braised tofu which was tasty but definitely on the more bland side. All in all i love that theres a new taiwanese spot so close to the astor stop! Definitely have to order the right things and most items are quite affordable. Excited to come back and try more things.

Yelp
Superb. Authentic*. Affordable. A must-try Taiwanese beef noodle soup in NYC. - #113, Beef, Tendon, Tripe Noodle Soup is the way to go. The broth is deep, complex, and savory. The cubed braised beef (not sliced shank!) is substantial but not tough (hard to achieve; I've tried). The hand-pulled noodles, somewhere in between the characteristics of Japanese ramen and udon, are the perfect chewy consistency (QQ!). Tendons melt in your mouth and are deeply infused with the flavors. Tripe was plentiful in my bowl, a mix of smooth and honeycomb cuts, with the honeycomb pieces extra meaty. The pickled mustard greens were a little finely chopped but cut through the dish well. The bok choy was slightly undercooked; that's okay. - Gua Bao: great! The peanut sauce with the pickled veggies on a thick slab of braised pork belly. - Cold Dishes: the "Jade Cucumbers" are sweeter with a lemony tang; I kind of expected the toasted sesame version but this was tasty. Black fungus was excellently prepared. Edamame was fine: flavorful, not the plain salted ones you might usually get. - Soymilk: tasted spot on. It has the robust bean flavor, the forward sweetness, and the subtle texture (that's right, textured drink) that you might find on the streets of Taipei. We received friendly and exceptionally fast service; the noodle soups are assembled in like 5 minutes. We sat inside-outside in one of the five privately enclosed COVID shed things, which was pleasant. Lots of tables inside too. *I can only semi-verify authenticity; I've personally eaten many versions of beef noodle soups in Taipei, Taiwan, but it's been 8 years!

Yelp
Definitely fast casual or maybe even best for lunch with a couple of friends before seeing a movie nearby. The menu was big enough and options were varied, while the prices were fine. We got the Dan Dan noodles before we had to dip out, and with a total of like $13.50--I wasn't mad. Affordable, filling, and flavorful. They have all three.

Yelp
First of all, I'm writing this review right after my meal so you know it's good! I just found this spot from UberEats (because I had a promo) and decided to try their Beef Noodle Soup because I haven't had one since the pandemic! Being the hungry girl that I am, I ordered 2 and they were offering a promo on UberEats for a free bubble tea along with it. SWEET! The food arrived promptly and everything was packaged nicely and securely. As a few have mentioned before, the packaging for the soup noodles is quite efficient because the noodles are plated on a separate tray on top of the soup base which is so smart! The broth..OMG THE BROTH..was HEAVEN..it's a 10/10 for me! The broth was warm, rich, deep in flavor while not being too salty. I just know THIS would be the cure to my hangover if I had one next time. The type of noodles were a little different from the noodles that I've had with Beef Noodle Soup at other spots because these were a bit thicker..sorta like an udon texture and I really enjoyed it! I feel like the noodles do a great job kind of soaking in the flavor of the broth. Also, they give you plenty of noodles! It was certainly a satisfied and filling lunch. I will definitely be returning again for the Beef Noodle Soup again and perhaps trying the Tomato Beef Soup as well!

Yelp
Wow what a hidden gem! I just walked in after the restaurant I was planning on going to was closed. The pork bun was delicious. I also got a beef stew. Both were flavorful and very filling. You can watch them make noodles in the back, it's reasonably priced, and there's lots of room

Yelp
My sister and I came here for dinner and both got the Braised Beef Noodle soup! It was super empty, and definitely underrated. Service was fast, and the broth was so flavorful and delicious! They gave a lot of meat in the soup, and the noodles were chewy but soft. The portions were also pretty big!! Prices were pretty good too-We paid ~$36 total including tax and tip. We had been craving some soup, and this definitely hit the spot!

Yelp
Got the braised beef noodle soup and the bubble tea. The beef noodle soup has a relatively light, but comfortable broth that is not too overpowering. The noodles have a decent texture and thickness. The beef are a bit chewy to eat but are still okay. Liked how they have two pieces of cabbages in it to make it a more balanced meal. Don't really like the bubble tea too much though as it has a slight sour flavours in it (if it is not accidental). Overall a pretty good place to get a bowl of Taiwanese beef noodle soup.

Yelp
Four Four South Village is a fun spot, specializing in Taiwanese eats. Their beef noodle soup is pretty good, as is their gua bao. They have some basic drinks and desserts as well. Hitting up their ai yu bowl on a hot day was refreshing.

Yelp
We got their bogo deal on ubereats with the dandan noodles and jade cucumbers. I didn't realize the jade cucumbers were pickled, but they were still pretty good. The dan dan noodles were okay- I think next time I would like to try the beef noodle soup.

Yelp
Came here yesterday. The place is small and comfy and the service was fast. Furthermore, the food was very delicious especially the Fried porkchop. I love how it is crispy on the outside and as you bite into it is caramelized and melts in your mouth. I would come back and try another dish.

Yelp
The only thing that's edible was the house special braised tofu. Everything else is laden with MSG and soy sauce. Beef noodle soup was not braised from bone broth, just a puddle of liquid with soy sauce and again, MSG, with small beef chunks from unknown parts; noodles were overcooked. I'm torn to write this review because I want to encourage foodies to try authentic Taiwanese cuisine, sigh...
