An Essential Guide to Philadelphia Diners | Eater Philly

"In the Northeast, Four Seasons Diner is another 24/7 gem, keeping it consistent day and night. No matter when you show up, more is more: Order from a massive assortment of breakfast favorites like cinnamon french toast, pancake platters, and omelets; hearty entrees such as chicken Parmesan and lamb chops; and so many sandwiches, from gyros and melts to cheesesteaks and classic hoagies." - Olivia DiPasquale

Classic family diner with good food and service here for a long time. Pastrami and Corned Beef sandwich with melted provolone is good, which I think they pan fried like a melt. French Dip was good, if a little bready. Burger was great, and they have many options to choose from. Fries were good, although sweet potato fries went soggy pretty quick. Their desserts look good. Clean place, nice servers. No wait, half empty on a Thursday evening. Definitely should be in your diner rotation if you're in the area.

Google
Nice place to grab a bite to eat but was disappointed with breakfast. The items I ordered were stuffed French Toast that was made with regular bread not Challah or Texas Toast which all places I have been to use. Also ordered a side of sausage the links were a pathetic size and only have two cut in half seems to me to be a tiny portion. All and all probably won't be back for breakfast. Forgot to mention presentation was subpar in my opinion also. Update: That is not Texas Toast and understood the order always been 2 links but to be honest the links are not what I remember when I go to diners being that tiny. All and all the owner can disagree with what I believe he was selling just look at Texas Toast size and the poor presentation and the white bread they used to pass off as Texas Toast.

Picked up a friend from Newark airport and was bringing her to Tom's River. She suggested this diner based on prior experiences. Plenty of parking! It was mid-afternoon and not very busy. There was absolutely no wait when we entered and we were immediately brought to a spacious booth by a window. The menu had many, many options and it was difficult to decide! Service was great and food came pretty quickly. My friend got chicken parmesan w/pasta and it was a huge serving. I got the French dip w/fries and it was also a very generous portion. My friend flies in pretty regularly and it's our tradition to find a place where we can sit and catch up for as long as we'd like. There were other customers, but everyone was spread out so it was really private, the background noise was minimal and it was a perfect place for us to get deeply into our conversation. When we were done there was plenty of food to bring home (I love leftovers brought home?), but I still ordered a chocolate shake to go and she got a double chocolate cake. It was exactly the type of restaurant we were looking for. The best part is that her mom was a really short drive away. I'm sure we'll be back again in the future!

A Classic Diner Experience: Four Seasons Diner The Four Seasons Diner in Toms River, NJ is a true classic. It's a place where locals and visitors alike can come together for satisfying, no-frills diner food in a warm and welcoming environment. The menu at Four Seasons Diner is a diner lover's dream. You'll find all the staples—from fluffy omelets and pancakes to burgers, sandwiches, and hearty dinner plates. Don't miss their daily specials, often featuring classic comfort foods. The portions are generous, so come hungry! While you won't find groundbreaking dishes here, that's part of the charm. Four Seasons Diner is about simple, well-prepared food that hits the spot. My personal favorites include the crispy breakfast potatoes, the perfectly cooked burgers, and their comforting meatloaf dinner special. If you're looking for a satisfying diner experience with friendly service and affordable prices, Four Seasons Diner is a great choice. It's a true Toms River institution that's sure to leave you happy and full.

Google
$9.99 for pancakes unbelievable. $12.99 for red velvet. $5.00 for bacon and $3.50 for coffee. Disgraceful. You can go to the Bandwagon and get 2 full meals for that money. Soup, salad dinner and dessert. No wonder they're always empty

Google
We had a great experience for dinner, the food was perfect. Chicken Fran chaise with artichoke and a turkey diner. Our server was Anthony, he was fantastic and have to let the management know that he is very good at his job and quite an asset to your business! When we come back we will always ask for Anthony’s section!

Yelp
Service ahhhh.. waitress forgot about us, and got our order wrong. We had to ask the table next to us as they were leaving if we could have their napkins. Our food came and thankfully their table had mayo and a full bottle of ketchup, so we helped ourselves. Finally checked on us for the burp. Pancakes were good. Cheesesteak... get the burger. Still my fav!

Yelp
Quick service, big size portions, my tuna melt was delicious, and sweet potato fries were scrumptious.

Yelp
I like Four Seasons. It is built from an old WaWa so it has limited windows. The atmosphere is not amazing but it is fine. Standard Diner menu, they offer pizza which I have not tried, my daughters claim the pancakes are the best in the area, and I have enjoyed the sandwhcihes and dinner meals over the last two years. The service is usually good, sometimes you get an understaffed night.

Yelp
We have been wanting to try this diner for a while, we are regulars at Joe Bella's Italian kitchen and our server, Lexi, told us it's the same owner. We went this morning and had a wonderful experience! The diner staff were very friendly, Anthony was our server, he was great! The diner is big and open and very clean and organized. The coffee, even the decaf was fantastic! I had the peppers and egg potato sandwich with a side of home fries, my wife had sausage, egg and cheese sandwich, both were perfect! We will definitely be back and probably next time we'll go there for lunch. Not at all surprised how great this place is since Joe Bella's is one of our favorite restaurants!

Yelp
Their breakfast is always good, but the senior waitress that's there should be replaced my last three visits. I've had her. She forgets everything she has no memory doesn't bring napkins doesn't bring butter. You gotta go get it yourself. She's terrible and lost in space, I honestly think it's too much for her.

Yelp
I had a great meal at Four Seasons. There was no wait time, the food came quickly once we ordered, the server was attentive and the food was tasty. Good experience. The owner is also an active supporter of local non profit organizations and the business community - I feel good about eating at the Four Seasons Diner in Toms River, NJ. I support this business.

Yelp
When here earlier this evening for dinner with my parents. My father ordered buffalo chicken sliders, my mother ordered the meatloaf dinner, and I ordered some type of stuffed chicken that had some type of creamy sauce on it. Since I am a heart, patient, I specified that I wanted the sauce on the side, rather than poured directly onto the chicken and I asked that there be broccoli substituted for the baked potato. Our waitress, Alyssa said "okay, no problem". When our food came out, the sauce that I had requested to be on the side was poured all over the chicken and was even inside of it. As I was opening my mouth to remind Ali that I had specified for the sauce to be on the side and not right on the chicken, she cut me off and said " the cook said they have to put a little sauce on the chicken because that's how they steam it. But I told him to just put a little bit on and there's a little inside of it too". So I said to her "So in other words, this sauce is all over my chicken when I asked for it to be on the side". Alyssa said that that was the way it had to be, and I told her that I couldn't eat it. She snapped back with a very nasty "well then why did you order it"? My mother chimed in with " well that's why he asked for the sauce to be on the side and you didn't say that the sauce had to be on it when he asked for it that way". Alyssa then claimed that it was specified on the menu that this particular dish had to be cooked with the sauce directly on the chicken, to which my mother and I both replied " no it is nowhere on the menu". So then Alyssa asked me in a very demeaning tone " OK so then what do you want"? She was throwing suggestions at me then asked me if I wanted a menu. I just asked for her to bring me the meatloaf with the gravy on the side. She said nothing and walked away. Alyssa brought my corrected meal out about 15 minutes later, split it across the table and said absolutely nothing and walked away. Both my mother's meatloaf dinner as well as my own were completely inedible! The meatloaf itself was literally the consistency of canned dog food. It was basically liquid protein on a what plate. Neither one of us could even eat it. Alyssa never once came back to our table to ask how our meal was or if we needed anything else, but automatically came over with take out boxes that we didn't even ask for. We simply asked for the bill and want to pay. When we spoke to the manager who took our payment, we explained Both the quality of our food, as well as Alyssa's rude, caustic, impatient, and completely unprofessional and inattentive attitude. The manager apologized, but only comped 1 of our 2 inedible meatloaf dinners. I could get a better dinner from a hotdog stand.

Yelp
As usual it was good service but the food was greasy and wasn't good this time. It also took a long time to be served.

Yelp
Amazing experience! Our server Carrie was absolutely wonderful. Great attitude and made our experience!

Yelp
The staff was friendly but the food was soooo terrible.. Honestly the worse in the area $100.00 later and we went home and just made dinner such a waste.. They use to be so good i dont know what happend ....These were the plates we orderd.. Bbq chicken pinni- flavorless and just a thick piece of chicken California cheesesteak- Bread was so stale and hard had to take it out of bread to eat Chicken fingers- very Dry even my 3 year old wouldn't eat them lol Chocolate chip pancakes- Hard had to pour alot of syrup on them to make it soft

Yelp
Used to love this place. But food prep has gotten sloppy and doesn't taste as it used to. Went there for dinner. Had stuffed filet of sole . It was a plop of stuffing with filets sloppily put on top. Under cooked and tasteless. Had to use a lot of lemons to get flavor. Not to mention that it was Luke warm, not hot. My had pork chops..Pork chops were undercooked. Red inside. Not going there again.

Yelp
This place was fantastic! Our waiter Louie was pleasant and energetic, made our experience here comforting. The food came out quick and tasted great. Definitely coming back here.

Yelp
Good typical diner. Keith, the host is always a pleasure to deal with. The food is consistent, not the best or worst, it's good. Nice sized portions and service is always fair. They can get busy at times which never really has a major impact on service. Breakfast IMO is their best meal with the basics or some more creative options. For lunch they have a large array of sandwiches, burgers and salads and for dinner they have nightly dinner specials which can be on the pricier side for a diner. All in all 4 seasons is a good quality diner, decor is a bit dated and worn, service is typically good and friendly and food is consistently good, although breakfast and burgers are their strength.

Max S.

Yelp
Friendly staff and delicious food. Not from here, but left an amazing impression. Thank You!

Yelp
First time dining after reading google reviews & only one word can describe this diner- DISGUSTING. This place needs "restaurant rescue." From the dirty glassware & utensils to the burnt food served, it's definitely not worthy of any stars. The manager was our server and I was shocked to even see his concerned reactions. Understanding we are in different times, there are still 3 main things that are nonnegotiable: 1. Clean/Sanitary 2. Properly cooked food 3. Prompt & courteous service I hope this place reads and understands the necessities to survive in this climate.

Yelp
Good food friendly staff and service very nice diner. Love their breakfast menu. Can't go wrong with there sandwich platters and pizza!

Yelp
Ordered the turkey club through Door Dash. Because this was a delivery order I opted to have this on a roll instead of toasted bread. The turkey was lovely and flavorful and there were so many fries you couldn't eat them all. Very good sandwich although very dry as there is zero mayo or any other sauce on it. the menu says it comes with coleslaw and a pickle, however this was not included with my order. Very disappointing given that the price doesn't change. I'm all for supporting local businesses during this COVID pandemic, however they need to do their part and include what their menu says too. One other suggestion I have is don't cut a Kaiser roll into quarters. That roll can handle the meat without being cut. Would recommend the restaurant, but not for delivery as I see someone else has said their delivery order was missing items. Bad business practice!

Yelp
Honestly, I can't say I have ever had a bad meal here. Tonite, pot roast with a chunky tomato basil bisque soup. His soups are always to die for. The pot roast, it was lean and fell apart nice and tender not dry. It came with fresh carrots and green beans, fresh mashed potatoes not canned anything. Rice pudding as the finish. Kelly is one of thr awesome servers there and again, all the staff are great. Wish they were open their old hours a little later but worth getting there before their 9pm close. Thank you for a yummy meal. I kept thinking, with all the touristy fly by night restaurants we try and they disappoint, this is so much better and it's a classy diner, so a win win!!

Yelp
Since moving to Jersey from NY, I have been on the hunt for a solid diner. Four Seasons seasons was a suggestion from a friend and it is exactly what my hungover self needed. I ordered a diet coke, disco fries and a crabcake benny. I am hesitant about trying seafood at diners cause you never know what you're gonna get. However, I was pleasantly surprised. The benny could have used some more hollindase same for the gravy on the fries. Four Seaons will be added to the rotation.

Yelp
Something has changed... not for the better. The food is still good and a good value, and the waitresses are friendly but overwhelmed. It seems that their number one priority is meals to go... Door Dash and the like. So if you are in the mood to have a meal delivered, this is your place! However, if eating out is your plan, go elsewhere. It's sad..... we have been coming here for years, but will not be returning. Also napkins are discretionary.
google avatar

Agnes K.

Yelp
Great variety. Something for everyone whether eating in or ordering to take out plus they offer delivery! Prices are accurate for the quality. Never disappoints.

Yelp
I did not know they had a four seasons diner in Ocean County, but here I am with my daughter and granddaughter. We were out to get a quick meal around suppertime since my daughter had to be at the University in 40 minutes. The place was packed with diners and our server, Jackie, was pert, yes, very cheeky. We ordered, three simple items namely: bacon egg and cheese on a bagel, Bacon cheeseburger and for me a Philly cheese steak with jalapeño and sweet potato fries. All three meals were excellent. The place had many senior diners and immediately know from past experience that it was going to be generally a positive one. As far diners go, it was excellent. Take your family there for a $$ meal. I'm sure as with all diners you get positive and negative reviews....hopefully you catch them when they're in an upmode.

Yelp
So on our way home from a beautiful day at the beach house. Was very hungry but clueless on what I wanted. So into a Diner I go. I have past Four Seasons Diner numerous times a year for over a decade and never turned in. Today was the day. We were greeted by a nice hostess who sat us immediately. The place was very clean and decorated in a Mediterranean style. Our waitress Ms. Brittany who moved in the area from New York was super pleasant, personal, funny and an excellent waitress. I told her it was my first time here and she recommended the Cowboy Burger. My GF and I both had one done rare. The 1/2 pound sandwich was covered in bacon, cheese, frizzled onions topped with a sweet BBQ sauce. The meat was done perfect, the sandwich was very juicy and delicious. Total bill with Ice tea was $25. I don't usually give 5 stars on diner food, however the complete experience with the staff, meal and ticket time was spot on. Congrats to the owner, I will definitely return.

Yelp
Good spot for classic diner options, giant menu! Went on a busy Sunday didn't have to wait which was nice. Chicken BLT sandwich was really good on fresh soft roll. We also were able to upgrade the pancakes to the red velvet when ordering the belly buster meal. Only downfall was service, didn't see the server after we got the food to ask for a refill on drinks or how the food was and to ask for the pickle and coleslaw which should have came with the sandwich, server was sitting at a table chatting with friends, no biggie I suppose.
google avatar

Bill K.

Yelp
Food is very good, great selection without falling into the standard NJ menu disaster of the "12 page diner menu." Bravo to the Four Seasons for serving good food at reasonable prices.
google avatar

Yelp
Was in the area working and looked up diners in the area and Four Seasons came up and I wasn't disappointed the service was good and the Cali skillet was delicious...

Yelp
My partner and went to 5 Seasons after reading the reviews. Wow, we're we disappointed. I had the prime rib and it was the worst prime I have ever had anyplace. Over cooked, tough, tasteless. The vegetable medley was way over cooked, soggy, watery, and also tasteless. My partner had spaghetti and meatballs. The red sauce tasted like it had sat cooking all day and loaded up with tomato paste. He got sick that night. Ordered a NY style cheesecake topped with blueberries but the cake was not creamy like a NY Style, more grainy and light like an Italian style but not nearly as good. The blueberries on top tasted like they came out of a can, not fresh. We will never go there again. Service was good though.

Yelp
I love this diner! They have great specials! Very clean! Good selection of food! Love this place

Yelp
I would give zero..stay away from here the food is beyond disgusting and the manager is a nasty c**t. Ordered thru Grubhub paid a 7.99 delivery fee they forgot items and utensils that were requested. Not a pickle, packet of ketchup, salt, pepper, nothing..called and tried to speak to the nasty manager who refused to give her name (shocking) I would too if the food I was serving tasted like dog food..couldn't get a word in she kept interrupting and then hung up on me..nasty nasty nasty

Catherine H.

Yelp
Although the food was very good and the waitress, Patricia, was excellent, the specials menu lead us to believe that the three desserts listed on the bottom of the menu were included in the cost of the meal. When we received our bill, we were charged $6.95 for each dessert, which we would not have ordered had they not been included. I went up to talk to the manager who was dismissive, unpleasant and didn't even look me in the eye. He treated me as though I were trying to get a free dessert. He indicated that "this has never been an issue with any other customer." He acted as if he was doing me a favor by taking it off the bill accompanied by a scowl. He lost four customers plus bad will.

Bobbi P.

Yelp
I didn't know there were still diners in NJ that served such horrible disgusting food ! The one star is for the wonderful waitress we had. I was here years ago and it has not improved.... Shame, shame on this place .

Yelp
In town for a meeting needed a place to hold a private meeting and some breakfast. Found Four seasons. The place is not your normal Jersey diner. It is set up very nice inside nice layout of tables and booths. We got right in seated at a very large booth. Great service from our server. She new we needed to booth for a meeting and made sure she kept us happy with refills and food. We ordered omelets and eggs Benedict. They allowed us to substitute the home fries For fresh fruit without an up charge We hung out for a good 1/2 hour after the table was cleared and it was no problem for the staff. Nice place good food. Have to try them for lunch the next time I'm in town
google avatar

Yelp
Seems to have really gone downhill. Everything our table of 4 got was kind of gross. Kids milk was warm. Fries were dripping grease. Marinara sauce tasted old like it sits in a vat and get reheated every day. Rolls were stale. And the music on the radio was annoying anything. Overall not a great experience. Won't be going back.
google avatar

Carmen M.

Yelp
their food is usually very good in the place is very clean when you eat in however ordering out is a whole Nother experience often times I am placed on hold and then my order is wrong no toasted bread no pickles no side coleslaw and these things are asked for at ordering. Very disheartening when I eat there at least three times a week
google avatar

Jenni L.

Yelp
My family loves this place! We go for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The menu is so big and there's definitely something for everyone. Great food and great service! Always look forward to eating here.

Yelp
Came here for a late morning breakfast with my wife. The food was very good, ordered a western omelette with a side of fruit in place of potatoes and toast, not worth the upcharge. My wife ordered a Monte Cristo which she really liked. The service was really below par. Most of the time we were seated the waitress was sitting down two tables over complaining about everything to the patrons at the booth. We were never checked, never offered a refill of coffee, never had a chance to order anything else, the check was dropped with the food order when placed on the table. I may try this place for dinner for the food and to see if this service is better.

Iggy I.

Yelp
I can get mediocre diner food anywhere. Service is fine. I refuse to be inundated with Fox News on every television. I vote with my wallet. I'll go back when they change to a different station.

Melissa G.

Yelp
Excellent!!! I can not say enough about how good our experiences have been here. My boyfriend and I been coming here Sunday nights for dinner over the last 4-5 weeks and the specials have always been huge and delicious! And the service is always very good!

Rita M.

Yelp
Hands down the most disgusting pastrami I've ever had, it looked like dry old leather between two pieces of bread. Beyond me how they can serve such old nasty food! Asides from the horrendous food, this place is very old and dirty. Avoid at all costs.
google avatar

Hollie S.

Yelp
The diner itself used to be an old Wawa. Interesting. Went on a weekday when it wasn't crowded. We waited a few minutes to be acknowledged by the wait staff. The waitress also disappeared for a while when we could have used a beverage refill and had questions about the menu. I ordered the red velvet pancakes which were better then the average. The frosting topping is what makes them. My date ordered a pizza which was nothing more than a flatbread. It was strange since it was labeled as a "pizza special". It was definitely not a pizza so if you order that, don't expect an actual pizza but more of a flatbread sandwich. Would I come back? I've been to 130+ NJ diners and this is one of the better ones. The food was good but I wouldn't come on a crowded day...

Abigail H.

Yelp
I went twice, both times near closing, and they were great. I know going to a place near closing is annoying and frustrating but they still sat and served us (to be fair I didn't realize a diner would close at 9!!). I appreciated their swiftness and did not mind them pushing us to leave when we were done, I understand wanting to get home after a long day. Food was super yummy, and I loved their gravy for the disco fries.

Yelp
My review goes to the people who helped me throw a beautiful baby shower for my daughter at the East Dover Banquet Hall. Arlene was an absolutely amazing help to get us through the day. I can't thank her enough for everything. The place could use some upgrades, but overall it was an absolute pleasure. Huge thank you to the two gentlemen who worked the event also. Arlene was hands down awesome to work with, thank you so much!
google avatar

Mary N.

Yelp
I had a broiled scallops dinner here that was amazing. I posted a picture of it. It was served with a side of sautéed spinach and mashed potatoes and a house salad before it arrives. The other person I was with had s bacon cheeseburger that came out and was huge. I eat here a lot in the summer and never had s bad experience. They are busy in the mornings on weekends but they seem to turn tables fast because I have never waited more than ten to fifteen minutes for a table. And no matter how busy they are in the morning I get coffee fought to my table almost instantly following ordering it. I'll be back
google avatar

Tina S.

Yelp
Fast, friendly service. My breakfast was classic diner which is exactly what I wanted and happily received (delicious) One bad thing they have a terrible radio speaker system throughout the establishment that crackles and sounds static all the time, very annoying and not necessary.
google avatar

Desiree N.

Yelp
I love the food here. My future son in law is one of the best cooks!! Thank goodness he doesn't live with me and my fiance, because we'd be 300lbs. My daughter is 1 lucky woman. The staff are extremely friendly. They were so thoughtful, helpful. We've had a few family birthday gatherings there. You guys are great!! Love ya, Dan...

Rachel T.

Yelp
I love the French toast there! My son is big on the burgers and sandwiches there, and I've had very good roasted chicken and some other seafood and pasta dishes there. All good. Prices on some of the meals could be a little bit lower in my opinion for what it is, that's the only reason one star is taken off. And not just recently, I know they're up everywhere right now. The coffee is very good too! Only slight issue is that a piece of cake can vary in size from time to time quite a bit, in my recent experiences anyway. Very large place with many tables and still fairly full a lot of the time... especially weekends and summers in general. They still never make you feel rushed at all. All of the staff that I've seen have been friendly. Solid place for when one wants breakfast and one wants lunch, or just different types of food etc.
google avatar

Cynthia C.

Yelp
The Asian salad was OK. It needed a little bit more like scallions and maybe some nuts in it but otherwise it was a nice fresh salad. The dressing needs to be worked on. The service was very sweet three people waited on me at different times and they were all very nice. Have a good assortment on the menu I would come back to see what the other things on the item taste like and what kind of quality. I would love to try their breakfast.

Yelp
If you are worried about COVID here, do not go. I am a door dash driver and frequently see staff not wearing their masks or pulling it down to talk to people. One driver came in without a mask and one of the hosts joked "what's with the mask now?" And almost shamed him into taking the mask off. That's unfortunate.
