Fourvière Hôtel (Lyon, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes) 3 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Fourvière refers, first of all, to an upscale neighborhood on a hilltop to the west of Lyon’s old town. And the hotel of the same name was a 19th-century convent before taking orders as a 21st-century boutique hotel. The building’s architecture is beautifully preserved, with historical elements lending gravity to the reception, housed in the old chapel, and the cloister, which is now the hotel’s bistro-style restaurant." - Tablet Hotels

Fourviere Hotel | Best places to stay in Lyon

"This uber-chic four-star hotel inhabits a former convent, with the lobby set dramatically in the former chapel – painstakingly renovated and dripping in colour and marble. The theatricality continues throughout: subdued in the contemporary rooms; measurable in the bistro, with its long windows overlooking the old cloisters. There’s a typical Lyonnais bouchon too – dressed in gingham and serving hearty classics. Location-wise it’s fabulous. It’s within walking distance of the basilica and the Lugdunum Museum with its Roman amphitheatres, and Vieux (Old) Lyon is just at the bottom on the hill too. And after all that sightseeing (and the steep climb or ride back up), a spa and outdoor lap pool await. " - Anna Brooke

I have rather mixed feelings about the Hotel Fourvière. The gardens and courtyard are indeed lovely, the reception area -- a former chapel -- is very striking, but the rooms themselves are very, very tiny and spartan. Bathrooms are tiny, so two people cannot move past each other. We requested a kettle and teabags. These were duly brought to our room, but the tea bags were never replenished unless I specifically asked for more. The hotel was far from generous with towels. I had to request extra towels every day. There were no toiletries in the bathroom aside from big bottles of shampoo and body lotion. No shower caps or hair conditioner (odd, considering the hotel prides itself on its spa and pool where one's hair tends to get wet). Worse still, our teacups were never washed or changed during our three night stay. Mixed feelings about breakfast, too. There was a good selection of warm dishes, cheeses, cold cuts and breads, but the muesli was totally inedible and boring.|The spa area and pool are not that big; I can imagine that it gets very crowded in summer. Even in October it was busy.|The hotel's locations is good for visiting the Roman ruins and the Fourvière basilica but is off the beaten path for everything else including shops and restaurants.|We had prepaid for our stay, yet the hotel insisted on reserving one hundred Euros per night -- an excessive amout for a three day, prepaid stay.|As the Fourvière is an expensive hotel, and the breakfast is not cheap, we had expected more for our money and better service.

Beautiful hotel in a historic converted Convent.. Location is not terribly central—about a 20 minute walk to the heart of the downtown—-but it is a short walk to both the Notre Dame de Lyon and the Roman Ruins, both of which were high on our list of things to see. And it was easy to get Ubers as well. It is a beautiful historic building; they did a fantastic job preserving the property. The two bedroom suite was perfect for traveling with our teenage daughter. Their restaurant, Les Telephones, was a beautiful setting for an excellent dinner. Finally, the hotel reception desk and Concierge were very kind and helpful, including in helping me book a car for the day, delivered to and picked up from the property. Overall a great experience and I would highly recommend.

Not enough words can fully describe this modernly-refurbished fairy-tale hotel, its surrounding and location, also the lovely breakfast offering in a wonderful setting - a great albeit too short stay for our one night stop in Lyon. We had a very good rest, likely and largely due to the very positive aura of the whole place (I imagine how decades and even centuries of prayers that took place here from the time it was a monastery/nunnery has brought about the serenity and blessing you could feel palpable in the air ☺️). Much appreciate the front of the house team who welcome us kindly despite our late time of arrival, and even more so the lovely lady during breakfast who helped elevate our peaceful morning enjoyment. Thank you for your hospitality.

From the moment I arrived, I was greeted by a lady at the front desk whose grace and professionalism set the tone for the entire stay. Her manner…poised, attentive, effortlessly kind…embodied the spirit of hospitality that makes this place world-class. The building itself, once a 19th-century convent and boarding school, still carries its calm dignity. Every detail seems considered: the polished wood, the measured quiet of the rooms, the view of Lyon that reminds you why this hill has always been sacred ground. To rest here is to feel time slow down. I could not ask for more…a warm welcome, a thoughtful restoration, and a staff that honors the building’s soul as much as its guests. Tuan

Google
The hotel itself is located in a fabulous setting and very close to the Basilica, Roman Ampitheatre and Furniculure into the city centre. Rooms are immaculate and cool. We didn’t eat a meal here as we felt it was. Set expensive in comparison to other Lyon restaurants and the menu choice isn’t huge but the bar staff are very friendly and efficient. The pool and spa area is very nice for relaxing in the sun and shade.

So glad we chose this place to stay in Lyon. The hotel itself is well designed and in a tranquil setting away from the main city center. It is located on a hill but thanks to the tram you are never more than a few stops away from the old city center. I would highly recommend staying here

Unfortunately we arrived on the weekend of a private wedding in the hotel. The hotel was not capeable of separating the wedding guests and the hotel guests. It was impossible to have a quite drink at the bar.It was impossible to enjoy a meal in the resturant. and it was impossible to sleep. I wont even mention the Sunday morning breakfast that was shared with the wedding guests and their Children. We arrived at 9.15 am, there was no coffee cups available, no plates, eventually someone brought the plates which were still wet. The Buffet was discusting with nothing having been replenished. The resturant is at best described as bland and if I have a cheese plate dumped infront of me with no explaination of what cheeses were chosen for me then....... I could go on but suffice it to say that the hotel is run in a very unprofessional way. The resturants and bar are situated in the convent cloisters, narrow, loud and the Spa guests, with their bath robes and slippers wander to the spa in full view. Not always conjunctive to enjoying a ( quite expensive) Dinner on your Birthday. I had the feeling that nobody in this hotel had any idea what they were doing. There is absoutly nothing 4 star about the hotel. And I am sure the the fact that they have a Spa is the only reason for their stars. It certainly wasnt the service and although the staff were always "nice" they were anything but Professional, At breakfast, in the bar in the resturant. A bit of window shopping after dinner is also not possible. Definetly my worst stay in years. PS. I ran a small guest house in Switzerland for 12 years, I am familiar with dealing with guests.

Former convent with a cool looking lobby, otherwise nothing special.|Beds are very comfortable but the room was too warm even with AC. |I wish the staff had name tags so I could name the rude restaurant staff member. |There was a blonde woman in food service who was very rude on two occasions. Once when we first arrived looking for the restaurant (kitchen was already closed for lunch) and also when I wanted to see what was on the breakfast buffet on the morning of our departure so we could decide if we were eating there or elsewhere (food looked ok but we chose to eat elsewhere because of the rude treatment). |We travel quite a bit, this was our 4th hotel this trip and we have never been treated so badly by hotel staff. Would not recommend this hotel.

Yelp
Excellent hotel, very quiet and serene. It was built in the location of an old covent. The rooms are modern with nice colorful furniture but small. I was upgraded on arrival to a junior suite but it was still on the smaller size. the bathroom was equally nicely appointed but without a window. The dining area is classy with the same modern touches. The breakfast was fresh, and with many options including the classics. Service was commensurate with the hotel class and excellent. Only big drawback, a little isolated and far from old town. I heard that there is a cable car connecting Fourvière to the city but not sure.

Yelp
My wife had a business trip and the company put her up in this hotel. The staff are all super friendly, everyone we encountered spoke enough English for any questions or requests we had. The stay was comfortable. It seems to be a repurposed convent with all the amenities you need. But I would come here for the food alone!! Their desserts are next level and their food overall is amazing. We had an excellent stay here.

Yelp
This was the most beautiful hotel I've ever stayed at. It was the most aesthetically pleasing, symmetrical, gorgeously detailed place ever. MY GOD THE FOOD IS DECADENT AND DELICIOUS HERE. It is the best place I've eaten at in France- better than the michelin restaurants we checked out, and more affordable as well! Drool worthy food. I HIGHLY recommend stopping here. If I could give it ten stars I would.

Yelp
This was our first visit to France and Lyon was our first stop in France. I had booked through Expedia months before and when we arrived I was shocked at how beautiful this hotel is. You see pictures on Expedia, but you never know if what you see is reality. Since we had a car we parked in the lot outside the hotel. The entrance was very confusing, as it is not clearly indicated from the street. So, we ended up driving up a one-way lane that is meant to go out, so the guy who had to back up wasn't too happy with us dumb 'Muricans. Sorry! Upon our check-in, the fantastic young blonde woman (I didn't get her name - wish I had!) gave us so much info that we were set for the full length of our trip on things to do. I tried my French and she let me know she speaks English (I guess it was that bad....). She pulled out maps and circled spots to visit and also pointed us to the Office de Tourisme, which has awesome passes for several days, with free tickets to a bunch of stuff. She put us in 007, "The Bond Room", as every single staffer referred to it during our stay. Every door has a giant image of a famous Frenchman/woman and the rooms are large, modern and the windows are adorable. There are iron bars on all the windows, but not in a ghetto "You gonna get robbed" feel, but a "this is used to trap nuns in" type thing. After all, this used to be a convent! (Did I forget to mention that?) The lobby is so impressive, as they have kept the original paintings, and simply restored them to their original glory. My one complaint is on our final night here we went to the restaurant. After announcing (in French) that he was a Vegetarian, the hostess brought us complimentary soups, in a cup. I asked what it was and she informed me it was a pea soup, no meat. After taking two bites he pushed it away, saying he tasted bacon. He's not rude about it, he just prefers not to eat meat. I called her over and sure enough, she forgot that they do puree pork into the soup and strain it out. She was highly embarrassed, but since he hasn't eaten meat in years the worst was for him, as he was sick the remainder of the night. Not food poisoning, just not used to having something foreign in his system. Plus my dinner was just "meh", and I thought that was disappointing for the rest of our fantastic stay. However, I will say the breakfast here was incredible. It was pricey (I believe 19 Euro per person, or so), but for one morning worth it. The yogurt in glass containers.....I would KILL for a carton of the strawberry! STAY HERE! When we return to Lyon (and we will), we already know we'll be back to Hotel Fourviere!

Yelp
Very decent hotel and a pleasant place to stay in Lyon. What I was impressed most by here was the very friendly, helpful service for a hotel at this price range. All of the staff were very helpful with directions, arranging taxis, and the check in and check out process. The facility has been renovated nicely. The rooms are comfortable, but small, and certainly not opulent, which was fine for us and we intended to, and did, spend most of the our 36 hours in Lyon seeing the sites. The location, up on a hill, is scenic but you may end up springing for a cab in the evening to get home because it's a bit of a hike up the hill, but it was lovely walking down the hill, looking at the city and seeing some cool historical sites on the way.
