Inside the Foxtrot and Dom’s Kitchen Implosion - Eater Chicago

"Foxtrot built a big brand fixated on the North Side of Chicago. It was a hybrid corner store, cafe, bar, and Instacart competitor. The chain traits were similar to a 7-Eleven, but instead of Slurpees, Foxtrot sold natural wine, craft beer, and gourmet items made by well-known chefs. Weeks after the closure, the stores have been left in various conditions. Some have been papered up. Others look ready for the start of business with fully stocked shelves." - Ashok Selvam

Foxtrot Market Review - Old Town - Chicago - The Infatuation

"If you’d only seen the CTA ads for Foxtrot Market, you’d probably think it was just one of 17 apps you can use to get a six pack and toilet paper delivered to your apartment. That’s true, but they're also shops with upscale groceries, booze, and $30 candles. The one in Old Town serves breakfast all-day too, with things like bagel sandwiches and spicy chicken biscuits. The food probably won’t blow your mind, but it’s ideal when you need a quick bite while picking up a pint of Jeni’s, a bottle of Chardonnay, and compostable garbage bags." - Josh Barnett

Google
Found my healthy skittles here called Giggles. They are so hard to find. Also a peanut butter and jelly side by side pack. More convenient when traveling. Also a spicy sweet Latin- inspired chili candy. Foxtrot is such a cool, trendy market/ coffee shop. Love it. Location is a bit limited indoor seating but there is also patio seating.

Google
Grand opening of the newest store near my office. What a fresh air breeze of open airy store with high quality items for good price. Use your app to order and purchase and the item was FREE! So much more then coffee or danishes. They have candles, apparel and so much more. Love to see my favorite snack @muddybites being sold locally. Check it out if you’re in the neighborhood.

Google
Great customer service, I ordered Avocado toast it wasb very fresh and crispy toast with Is fresh hot coffee. Wonderful experience I went there first time.

Google
Popped in the other night and was delighted with the selection, saw the ad for the app, downloaded and decided to do pickup ahead of a dinner gathering. The order still hadn’t been started fifteen minutes after the time given in the app. No one at the counter even spoke to me, but I waved someone down who was coming from the back and she quickly and helpfully put the order together. Then, when I took one of the products out, its container was broken and the cheesecake itself had mold on it. Frustrating experience.

Google
The barista was friendly and helpful, fresh food arrived quickly and was very tasty. Outdoor and indoor seating year round. Sign up for the app and you get a free drink every month. Also, the gianduja cookies are incredible!!!

Google
Just had foxtrot’s ice cream cookie butter bar and it was SPECTACULAR. Divine dark chocolate layering, sensational speculoos butter chunks layered between cookie butter ice cream, topped off by hints of cinnamon and nutmeg. The thing that I love most is that members (anyone with the app!) get a free drink each month (thank you foxtrot!) and can place orders for pickup in advance. I.e. no melt-y, sticky messes and the perfect summer treat! Highly recommend.

Google
I genuinely love the Foxtrot brand and always enjoy spending a bit of time in their market looking at the new stock or enjoying the ambience. It’s a great place for a good quality coffee and a quick bite or snack while doing work or catching up with a friend. I’ve been to both the Alexandria and DuPont locations and have been quite happy with both. The service is also always lovely and it’s nice to see people having a glass of wine on a Sunday afternoon.

Google
Quick service. Friendly staff. Red Wine and a Slice Combo! Outside on the Patio! What's not to love? Doggies are welcome. A great way to spend time outside on a clear, sunny Fall day.

Yelp
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but a few days ago, Foxtrot closed all of their D.C. area locations...this location included! Didn't see this coming. Mind you, I stopped by this location just a week ago. It was business as usual. However, according to several news outlets, all of these closings were "abrupt." Furthermore, these closings caught the employees and customers of Foxtrot by surprise. Hell, after hearing the shocking news, you could've knocked me over with a feather. In my mind, this location was a bougie version of 7-Eleven and Wawa put together. Yeah, most of the inventory was a bit overpriced. But, where else could you find a bottle of Japanese barbecue sauce, oat milk overnight oats, and under eye gels under one roof? Foxtrot had the best grab-and-go selection...plant-based tomato bisque, sandwiches, guacamole, and fresh mixed berries, just to name a few. Their variety of sweet and salty snacks were second to none. Awesome collection of wines. Fantastic frozen foods section. Loved the ample seating...you could dine inside or alfresco. On top of that, friendly customer service. According to several of my peeps, their fresh smoothies and lattes were pretty decent. Verdict? Here we go again, another fab business in the DMV bites the dust! What a shame. Anyhoo, I'm going to miss you, Foxtrot. Talk about here today, gone tomorrow!

Yelp
I wanted to check out this location. I have been to another foxtrot in DC before. This s a cute store/ coffee shop with a variety of different food and beverage options. They also have a coffee bar with pastries, donuts and breakfast tacos. I did not try a breakfast taco but I had an iced latte. The staff that were working here didn't seem too friendly towards me. I won't be rushing back here for their coffee but would deff come back to browse around at the different products they have. They also sell wine and beer. There are tables inside and outside for people to enjoy their drinks and food with family and friends. It's a nice little market/ coffee shop.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick bite while visiting DC. After ordering, we went to the table and realized it was dirty. I walked back up to the counter while I was at the counter staff was on their phone and didn't pay attention to me. I asked for a towel to clean the table and they directed me to the napkins. I wiped the dirty table down with a napkin that I had put some water. The three Carnitas tacos we ordered have zero meat in them. There was a long line so I didn't get back in line to say anything. Ate our food & left. What a disappointment.

Yelp
Every month you can get a free cafe drink with the app! I get so excited for it, the store always has a good vibe with interesting products to cheer you up. I'm glad foxtrot came to DC, creates a nice option for us rather than just Starbucks and 7Eleven...and even Tatte. My drink was made fast and delicious. Next time I want to try the cold foam on top of the Froot Loops Matcha.

Yelp
Good service, OK vibe, OK food. I ordered a beans and cheese taco, migas taco, and a chocolate donut. I was able to order and get the food immediately as the tacos were premade and just sitting in a warmer. The chocolate donut was fantastic-moist, rich, and chocolate-y. The tacos were disappointing-lukewarm, not fresh, and needing far more salsa and flavor. I would come to Foxtrot again to get a coffee and pastry and get work done but nothing more.

Yelp
They do great, and now they accept tips through all forms of payment. Crème Brûlée donuts, ice cream sandwiches of all kinds, and good coffee. And excellent service. And a wonderful covered porch to sit on and drink coffee. Thanks.

Yelp
Foxtrot is like a Starbucks meets a Cafe at an upscale convenience store! They have coffee, tea, wine & beer along with a small food menu. There is fresh bread, fresh baked pastries & then all sorts of really cool prepackaged goodies for eating & drinking. The vibe is very hipster bodega & it's cool! There is a patio that is temperature controlled & where puppers are allowed, a big plus, as well as some indoor seating. The place had as good steady business for a Saturday afternoon. Covid measures are fully in place here! Love that they ask for your vax card before they will allow you to dine-in & they provide masks for those that "forgot". Also love the environmentally friendly straw-less cups BUT they are 100% plastic so not sure how much of a difference that makes lol. We shared the avocado toast with smoked salmon & the spicy mushroom bowl with miso & each had a glass of vino & some H2O. The food was good but nothing to make me want to crave it & not at all like it's pictured on the website. Plus the mushroom bowl hardly had any shrooms in it. A big turnoff was that the silverware was not fully clean - ewww! I mean it happens but check it & don't give out the dirty ones for guest to use, rewash them please! Bathrooms are gender-neutral, big plus, & clean. Convenience part is cool but pricey. Overall, a cool concept that could take off if they tweak it some & put it in the right location - I personally don't feel like this would survive just anywhere.

Yelp
I teach at a local yoga studio in Dupont and needed something quick before teaching class. I loved that Foxtrot conveniently had a grab and go refrigerated section with great variety of drinks and snacks: kombucha, CBD water, gut healthy treats, clean ingredient snacks, juice shots, and more. The sticker tag is on the higher end, but you're paying for the convenience and the health benefits of what you get. I personally went for a small naturally pink coconut water and a gut healthy blondie. Total came to $7.95, but totally worth for holding me down so that I wouldn't pass out while teaching class. Super delicious and no gut issues here (I have digestive problems with trigger foods to say the least) I'd so love to sit down here one day since it's super cute and I love the hipster vibe. Thanks for the grab and go, Foxtrot!

Yelp
I love Foxtrot! My friends and I come here pretty frequently for morning coffees. It's a little more expensive than other area coffee shops, but the quality is good and you can get discounts (and free popcorn/ice cream) if you sign up for their membership. The food is also pretty good, if you have time to sit down for brunch. I liked the avocado toast and the hummus was surprisingly yummy. Service was quick! I also like to browse their wine and beer selection -- they have unique craft options that you can't seem to get elsewhere.

Yelp
I have been to Foxtrot many times but today I tried the cold foam on my coffee and I enjoyed it so much that I wanted to let others know about it. I got a large cold brew with original cold foam (they also had vanilla, lavender and honey cinnamon). The original is the no flavor version and is basically just cold foamed milk they put on top of your drink. I really enjoyed it. The foam was a fun treat that made a simple cold brew more unique. I will definitely be getting it again. I also like how they serve vigilante coffee becuase tastes good and is a local roaster in the area. In addition to a full coffee menu Foxtrot has beer, wine, prepared food (example - Avocado toast) and grocery items like snacks and ice cream. I have picked up a few snack items before but I am always cautious before I do because the prices are frequently higher than at other places. They do carry a lot of local products though like Dolcezza and Ice Cream Jubilee. Many people seem to find Foxtrot a great spot to work as other reviewers have eluded to. I personally have not worked at Foxtrot or even had a seat becuase it always seems to be so packed with people working and socializing when I go and there are never any available seats. I always wish there was available seating as they have a nice covered patio that looks like a lovely spot to spend an afternoon working or socializing. Foxtrot has a membership program and everyone who is going should definitely join becuase it gives you things like one free drink a month and free popcorn. The membership and free things you get is one of the reasons that keeps me coming back.

Yelp
I love the selection of pantry and grocery items! The fruit loop matcha is one of my favorite matcha drinks ever. The sandwiches and breakfast items are also amazing.

Yelp
I stopped by this Foxtrot location for a coffee while waiting for a friend. I had just been to a Foxtrot in Uptown Dallas, and I love the concept: coffeeshop, cafe, market. They sell beer, wine, snacks, food, and coffee! I had a quick americano (very good and very fast). It's a nice place for a coffee or a snack on the go.

Yelp
This is my go-to work location as it's one block from my house! One of my favorite things about Fox Trot is the overall vibe! At the intersection of a coffee shop/ convenience store/bar, it's something that I have not come across before. The coffee itself is good, although nothing to write home about! There's lots of seating and outlets to do work, including a cute patio outside for sunny days. Their food menu is also surprisingly good! If you're ever in a rush and didn't manage to grab breakfast at home, stop by foxtrot and order their $3 breakfast tacos which they have ready to take on the spot. Overall, would definitely recommend it to a friend! It's a great place for a cute coffee date or a great environment to get some work done!

Yelp
I did give the ham and cheese sandwich another try! This time the ham was prepared much better and I was actually able to bite into it. I made sure to take a better look the bialy before I ate the sandwich and saw that although it was very very different from the advertised photo, it wasn't actually just a plain bagel. It tasted much better than the last (but I couldn't get a very nice photo of it) and I also tried the croissant which was wonderfully made!
google avatar

Cathryn M.

Yelp
Cookie was a 10/10, chai was a 10/10! Service was great and got everything super fast. The inside of the shop is super cute and doubles as a high end food shoppe. I only take a star off because I attempted to sit outside in the patio area and it smelled horrible. The carpet needs some serious cleaning.

Yelp
Love this third location of Foxtrot in DC! Great selection and amazing customer service. Recently tried the chicken noodle soup and it was delicious! My only gripe with Foxtrot is their delivery radius- I seriously can't believe a company with three locations wouldn't deliver to Capitol Hill and/or Navy Yard, such a large portion of the city's residents. We want Foxtrot delivered too!

Yelp
I visited on 11th March 2022 at about 11am, they had a special going on which they told us about at the door itself. The special was that if we paid with the app we get a free pint of Jenis ice cream, naturally we got the app and the ice cream to follow. They have a selection of cold beverages, alcoholic and non alcoholic including CBD infused drinks. Their ready to eat bar has some cold salads and meals that you can grab and go, and they have a kitchen that can cook hot food as well. If you are in the mood for delicious food that will absolutely blow your mind away, you have come to the right place. If your priorities are time then your best bet is picking something off the shelf or preordering. Their small kitchen was proving to be a challenge as they took over 30 mins to get us the Burrata toast. If time is not an issue, the taste is so worth the wait. While I had the time to spare, I would have still expects faster service for the limited nature of my order and their menu. The staff themselves were very hospitable and friendly, they really went out of their way to make us comfortable. I will be back for sure, with more time on my hands and a lovely appetite. For under $20 each it was a great choice!

Yelp
I must have passed this place several times, but never thought it's a coffee shop. I only realised this when I was in Dupont and checked in googlemaps for nearby cafes. It must be relatively new, and seems a pretty prime spot for just a coffeeshop (rather than, say, a restaurant). I didn't stay long, and just had a lemonade. Nearly everyone was there to work/do stuff on their devices, rather than socialise (this is not a complaint, I was on my laptop too!). A perfectly good place to return to. They have a nice outdoors seating area that is an excellent perch for peoplewatching (the passers-by).
google avatar

Paige H.

Yelp
Two stars because the donuts and packaged food selection are wonderful. But I shouldn't have to wait 11 minutes for a drink when there's no line and then my drink is incorrectly made. If someone orders nondairy, we are not paying extra for fun. We are paying extra so we don't vomit.

Helen M.

Yelp
Very friendly staff & good customer service! We're very helpful in getting me a gift card. Plus, well stocked with all the best snacks.
google avatar

Bill W.

Yelp
I want to like this place but I just can't. The baristas knew absolutely nothing about the beer options. They literally just pointed at the wine bottles available by the glass with no explanation. And they got confused when someone ordered an americano. Yikes. Hire better staff. Train your staff. The offerings here are fun and unique. Somewhat. It could use a lot more though. The outdoor tables were filled with random passerbys making it impossible for actual customers to get a seat. They should at least put a sign up so actual customers have something to point to when trying to get an outdoor seat. The indoor tables were just not clean. Especially the ones by the window. The bench was wet and dirty. I will give it another shot but I hope things improve.

Jenny C.

Yelp
Ordering was fast but the wait time for my beverage was quite long, 20mins. The smoothie was mediocre. It was super sour and almost undrinkable. I think I'll spend my money else especially since they did not have water for their customers.

Wm S.

Yelp
F"oxtrot 'smoothie' goes with subway 'tuna' and Tropical Smoothie's "hummus"--an exploitation of what we have come to expect from honest descriptions of smoothies. Foxtrot uses familiar names (Berry / Green Goodness, Detox, etc) to identify its "Smoothies" and the listed ingredients are also familiar, consisting of healthy fruits and vegetables. But mine was nothing familiar and ended with a lump of goo at the bottom of the cup, like cookie dough. The explanation from the staff was 'oh, all our smoothies are a mix and we just add liquid.' Other experiences here have been better but these goo with water half mixed concoctions should not be called smoothies!
google avatar

Maddie S.

Yelp
Newly opened third DC foxtrot location in DuPont! Foxtrot is expanding in dc and it is so exciting! The offer the best goods from local brands while serving great cafe items. It a great spot to do work, have a meeting, or catch up with a friend

Kate K.

Yelp
The outdoor chairs and tables are reasonable comfortable with overhead coverage to provide shade - this deserves one star. Beyond that, we were pretty disappointed. The food is below average for the area but still costs the same as everywhere else, and the bathrooms are quite dirty. But the real reason we won't be returning is because we watched one of the people preparing/serving food go into the bathroom to fill the toilet paper and paper towel dispensers and then go right back to handling food without washing his hands.

nate ..

Yelp
foxtrot 'smoothie' goes with subway 'tuna' and Tropical Smoothie's hummus--an exploitation of what we have come to expect from honest persons with something opposite. The names are the same and the ingredients are familiar--healthy fruits and vegetables-- but turns out mine ended with a lump of goo like cookie dough and the explanation forthcoming was 'oh, are smoothies are a mix and we just add liquid.' I hope this is the exception at foxtrot

Britney S.

Yelp
This place is so adorable and a perfect study location! Also, I heavily recommend the peach green tea they sell!
google avatar

Stacy K.

Yelp
Huge fail. Just came in to sit and have some lunch but every single table was taken by people sitting on their laptops alone! Come on Foxtrot! You missing out on huge revenue by letting people squat!
google avatar

Regi D.

Yelp
Went there for the coffee, then tried the food because it looks really gourmet and it's super duper delish..

Rakesh A.

Yelp
I only had a coffee at this place and it turned out to be the best I had in DC in my 4 day long trip. Unlike most cafes around which source their beans from illy, this place sources their beans directly from Ethiopia (I forget the brands name) and the taste difference is very evident.
google avatar

Brooks G.

Yelp
It is unfortunate to have to give Foxtrot a poor review. It is a beautiful space in a prime location. However, I suppose it's expected to have low expectations when it comes to customer service. When you have an associate add ice to a hot coffee and call it iced coffee, it's almost purposeful. Their service staff is not very friendly. I suppose you cannot expect much from a barista, but a genuine good morning would be a nice start to customer service.

Jillian M.

Yelp
We were super excited when we saw that a Foxtrot was opening near us in dupont because we love the location in Georgetown. Not a great decision to visit today. The black coffee was lukewarm, we were told which coffees you were allowed to add oat milk to (only the iced coffee and not a regular latte, apparently). Additionally, we wanted to order food and are ordering an item on the food menu above the register -- some special ham and cheese -- but we're told we can make no substitutions and it's only a sausage. We tried to point out the food item we were referring to on the menu but the register took no interest and repeated the same statement. We ended up ordering Avocado toast which was fine except for being the only two waiting for food and watching the slowest process of spreading only Avocado on toast that took at least 10 minutes. To be honest the service experience was the most disappointing part, being made to feel out of place and dumb for trying to place a simple food order. For the prices, it's pretty unacceptable considering the amount of other options in the neighborhood. Order overpriced coffee and bland, vaguely hipster food somewhere else in the neighborhood.
