Where to Eat in East Dulwich, London - Eater London

"Nothing says there are culinary riches to be made quite like Franco Manca turning up on your doorstep demanding a slice of the action. Taking over the space left behind by Draft House, which sadly never really took off, the sourdough pizza joint has hit the ground running since setting up shop in 2015. In Dulwich and practically everywhere else you can think of, the combo of “keep it simple, stupid” pizzas, sharp service and handy prices seems to be a winning one." - Isaac Parham

Well this was the second time I've been here the first time a friend brought me here and the waitress was friendly and attentive. So this time I had a small problem we ordered two pizzas the same but mine was on the world had less toppings on them my friend when I spoke to the manager just to say it's not fair she rectified it immediately I wasn't really complaining just saying it's not fair like a child but she was so nice and gave us another pizza and cunt I drinks it was amazing I just recommend this place because they are really nice and they do go out of their way if they've got it wrong they will rectify it all. Thanks had a great night

Great place, well received even without reservation, enough time given to settle and Oder taken and service was very friendly even though there was just a manager and a waiter. They know what they were doing. We ordered our drinks. Aperol and lemonade. However the lemonade tasted very old. As I highlighted and the manger swiftly changed to different drink and didn’t charge for lemonade. Which was nice gesture. ( when asked, they said the get lemon juice order from supplier and I realised the lemon juice made couple of days back originally and hence the taste). Our pizzas came on time and I really enjoyed the sourdough and well baked. I always suggest go to Franca Manca than than going to Pizza Hut or domino’s. This place is delivers better pizzas than rest. It’s a value for money what is offered and compared to their competitors. Was bit disappointed with Tiramisu. Lack of mascarpone flavour and very subtle taste of coffee soaked Savoiardi biscuits. Probably they do like that for kids. Really loved there serrated knife which are easy to cut the pizza who wants to eat with fork and knife. ( fine details). Overall it was a pleasant experience and a very friendly manager.

I'll start with the app - which I don't see the point of. I got an email from them saying I can get a pizza for £5. Thought it was worth it, so got my wife to download their app to get this offer, too. Applying the offer was easier said than done: I was putting the exact same details I had registered for the offer in the app and I wasn't receiving anything. Tried that 5 times, reinstalled the app 5 times, still nothing. I had to email their customer service so they could apply it to my app. I then booked a table for a Saturday night. We got there and we were welcomed in and directed to our table. Once we hung our coats, I took a seat and my arse regretted it. These must be some of the most uncomfortable chairs I have ever sat on in a restaurant. They are from wood, but they have no back rest and they're very hard. The host came to our table and we placed our food order. I went for the Italian smoked beef pizza and a homemade lemonade, whereas my wife went for the Amatriciana pizza and an Aperol Spritz. The drinks came first, and then the pizzas. My pizza was a bit dry and even with some chilli and garlic oil on it, it didn't go down that well. My wife's pizza was a bit more flavourful and had a bit more sauce to it. A check back had not been performed at any time throughout our dinner. Once we finished the pizzas, we wanted to order dessert. When we wanted to ask one of the waiters for desserts, he told us he needed to go downstairs for a couple of minutes. We respected that, however it's not exactly the most customer-friendly interaction. We proceeded to wait for another 10 minutes until he came upstairs and took care of some other matters before he served us. We finally got to enjoy our desserts - I got a cheesecake and my wife got a tiramisu. They were both ok. When it came to pay, we needed to redeem the vouchers through the app. However, the app didn't feel like working at all, keeping us in the loading wheel of doom. The host recommended we try it with the WiFi of the restaurant - no luck. We closed and reopened the app - same result. He then went and checked the till system and he could see promotion applied there. When he got back, the promotion was finally applied in our apps, too. I think this will be the last time we'll be dining in Franco Manca. The service seems to be going down and having to redeem offers through an app that refuses to work is just too much.

We went for an early dinner. We were met by Raffaella with a big warm welcome smile. The pizzas arrived quickly, they seemed more loaded than usual. They were not burned, they were delicious. The service was superb.

Google
Franco Manca is great and this one is in an awesome location. The gluten free pizza's are amazing! Love the selection of toppings too. They're light and fluffy - just like when I was able to eat normal pizza. Much better than any others I've tried. They were worth the wait. The only annoying thing is that they don't always have them available.

Google
Great pizza, friendly staff, good atmosphere but 'optional table service' 10% automatically added. They bring you the food you ordered. And that's 10% but successfully removed by manager. Thank you. If it wasn't on my overdraft I have left on the bill.

I was told that Franco Manco served good pizza and so even when I was not a big fan of the same I went there. I was not at all impressed by the pizza esp the base dough. Lager beer was average. A bit disappointed. May go once.

Absolutely first rate lunch for my son and I. We're were offered a seat by the kitchen so we could watch the chefs making pizza. Brilliant value food, top rate toppings and dough. £5 menu for kids with pizza, drink and ice cream. Food arrived really fast too. Staff were brilliant with little one, lots of goofing about and talking to him like he is a real person. We left so happy. Thank you.

Yelp
Pre-COVID review: We got off the bus a few stops before our normal destination and went to grab some pizza from Franco Manca to take home to eat. We ordered the margherita pizza (£5.90) and ham ricotta mushrooms pizza (£6.85). What a surprise when we first got home and discovered that they did not slice the pizza (is that the norm for them?)! At least both pizzas were yummy!

Yelp
We wanted to try something locally and found this spot. Great variety of pizzza. Loved the crust. Thin but very good.

Yelp
Fresh, stone oven pizza! Franco Manca had fresh ingredients, with that stone oven taste! There was a good crowd for a weekday evening in the suburban neighbourhood of Peckham. I had Gloucester old spot ham, mozzarella, Buffalo ricotta and wild mushrooms pizza. I wish there were more toppings and sauce, but you can't expect too much. It was relatively inexpensive, between £7-8. Beers were ~£4. Not super filling though. Friendly staff.

Yelp
The server was nice. I wanted water but it was obvious the glasses or bottle wasn't cleaned or the water was just old. In any case there was a small fly and something else in the water. I ordered a pizza. I wasn't overwhelmed with it. I didn't taste the Tanginess of the sourdough. The pizza was thinner than a paper - not over exaggerating. I had to fold the pizza to enjoy it. I understand that it's the most standard pizza I ordered but you could've put more than 4 basil leaves. But anyway, I at least went away not hungry anymore.

Yelp
I've been looking forward to Franco Manca opening in East Dulwich for such a long long time, I love FM so having one literally within walking distance was like a dream come true! Me and the boy went along tonight on their opening day, I know of expected maybe a few teething problems and hiccups but everything was super smooth! There was about a 30 min which was fine (and quite expected!). I'd been in this building when it was previously a gastropub type thing, I have to say they've done an amazing job revamping this place, it's completely unrecognisable from what it used to be! It didn't take too long to decide what to have, my boyfriend went for the chorizo and mozzarella and I went for the meat special which was wild boar salami and cavolo nero. If you've been to FM before, you know how amazing the sourdough base is. If you haven't, you need to go to FM immediately! The food was on point, exactly how it was in the other branches I've been too. Perfect base, awesome toppings and just all round amazing. The staff were lovely and were obviously well prepared for a crazy hectic night too! I'm so so pleased that Franco Manca have opened close by. This is gonna be dangerous!

Yelp
Really enjoyed a quick bite to eat on Lordship Lane. We waited about 10 minutes for a table for 4 around 8pm on a Thursday night. The front of house was excellent and kept us informed how long the table was going to be, she was as good as her word. Of course all about the pizza's but they were happy to increase an order of bruschetta to 4 pieces with no extra charge. So yeah the service is nice. Check out the specials board for some interesting toppings. Wine was cheap and tasty. The pizza's themselves are amazingly priced, they are pretty doughy, which fills you up but they're all under 10GBP. They came out very fast. I'd def order takeout too. Less than 40GBP between the 4 of us, one glass of wine. Enjoyed it.

Yelp
Lovely pizza, and coming from a Native New Yorker that really means something! Reasonably priced and delicious!

Yelp
Pizza was lovely, setting lovely, it was a sea of small children , buggies , more children, annoying parents and screaming kids. The really would benefit from having an area of the restaurant for adults only..

Yelp
I've never seen this restaurant not busy, so I went ahead and gave it a shot. My friend and I went on Friday night and were told to wait 15 mins, which was pretty spot on. You have to shuffle to your chair a bit because the tables are close together. The pizza was tasty and we were offered an additional chilli tomato sauce (which I think they were trialling) free of charge, also yummy! Overall, the staff are nice, the prices are reasonable and the food came fast. I will definitely go back.

Yelp
I'm praying this chain doesn't become like pizza express as it expands...and it's expanding at the speed as light due to its immense popularity. The pizza recipe is simply DELICIOUS. If I were them I would keep it under lock and key. these guys just churn out world class pizza after world class pizza. Their ingredients are also such high quality and the menu is wonderfully simple. I love their "non-branded" beer and the environment is attractively minimal. All very well thought through. Did I mention they seem to be able to bring you pizza to you milliseconds after you ordered it? Staff are also very friendly. Now I'm not a fan of employment discrimination on the grounds of nationality but I do hope they continue to only hire Italians - it lends the chain such an air of authenticity. Viva Franco Manca!

Yelp
Worst pizza we've ever had. Picked it up with great anticipation but after a 5 min drive home were faced with a stone cold limp soggy piece of bread that more resembled middle eastern flat bread than pizza base. A smattering of vaguely tasty ingredients that also seemed undercooked altogether resulted in a totally disappointing unsatisfying experience. Never again!

Yelp
Incredible value. For this price, I don't get how we can get such delicious pizzas. They are using an incredibly chewy, moist, tender sourdough, that makes it hard to come back to traditional pizzas. Plus, the service is ultra-friendly. We love it so much that we come here several times a week.

Yelp
Best pizza in London, and really good value. Highly recommend the take away as only takes 15 minutes before you can go and collect! Also good to eat in, speedy service and lovely staff!
