"Some of the nicest moments for me during the pandemic have been sitting in the absolutely beautiful Larz Anderson Park at sunset with great friends, knowing a delivery order from Frank Pepe’s was on the way. The white clam pie is famous for a reason, and we’re also in the sweet spot of the year when the fresh tomato pie is currently in season (from July to September). Order a few root beers on the side for the perfect summer meal. (Note: The New Haven-based chain also has Boston-area outposts in Burlington and Watertown.) —Karen Wilber" - Rachel Leah Blumenthal, Terrence Doyle, Nathan Tavares, Karen Wilber

"A nearly century-old Connecticut pizzeria that now operates 10 restaurants in the northeast will add two more in Massachusetts. Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana will bring its acclaimed coal-fired pizza to Watertown, joining the ranks of a few other forthcoming restaurants in the Arsenal Yards development. This is in addition to the already announced Frank Pepe location in Burlington, Massachusetts, which should open next month. Frank Pepe opened its first Massachusetts restaurant in Chestnut Hill at the end of 2015, spreading the reach of its long-coveted pizzas closer to Boston. Founded by its namesake in 1925, Frank Pepe is considered a New Haven institution, well-known for its white clam pizza. It’s one of several pizza — that is, apizza — mainstays in New Haven." - Dana Hatic

The ideal pizza - VERY GOOD. I loved how there was PLENTY of toppings. They use good ingredients!! The vegetarian option was truly impressive, it was almost like eating a full bowl of salad in a very tasty way. We got them delivered for a group gathering (thus no rating for 'Atmosphere'), the pizzas were hot and fresh out of the oven, the crusts were crunchy and cheese was melting. I loved how the toppings dominated and there was minimal crust-only space/rim and it was not oily or too thick. There were spots that were a little burnt but I would expect that from a nicely baked pizza. It wasn't too salty either (again, I'm sensitive to salt+sugar levels because I can't deal with salty or over-the-top sweetness). I enjoyed every bite of pizzas from this place. A highly recommend.

Not the original, but still taste fan-tab-lous. Food is incredibly, we had 4 different types of pizza and leftovers for the next day. Waitress was incredibly, very nice! Manager came out and checked on us, thank you! Best pizza in the world and I’m Italian! We are not rookies… we made reservations and I recommend you do to. I wrapped the white clam pizza as a gift for my brother! He almost cried when he opened it, he was so happy!

Google
Stopped by the Chestnut Hill location for some pizza. Definitely solid pizza for those of us that can't make the trip directly to New Haven. Table got three medium pizzas. Went with a pepperoni, the special and half chicken Broccoli and half meatball ricotta. They were all really good. Not NH good, but still very good. If I could only do one it would probably be the special.

Emily Winter

Google
Amazing, nearly as good as the New Haven location. Best pizza around. Meatball and ricotta is great, so is plain cheese. Very fast takeout service.

Frank Pepe's Pizza is a famous Pizza chain from the New England region with this being one of the main chains in the Boston area. The staff are friendly, help move orders along and juggling take-out orders as well as people sitting within the restaurant. We had a to-go order scheduled for a time way later than we expected, and the staff were friendly to rush the order so we could go home instead of waiting for a long time. We've tried multiple pizzas from here, such as the Clam pizza (one of their famous ones), Doppio Pepperoni, and the meatball pizza. The pizza is well crafted, with a great consistency and a lot of toppings for the portion of pizza. It does well to feed multiple people and the portions are large. Pizzas do tend to run on the more expensive side, but the quality makes up for it.

Stop by today because you know, one bite challenge. This makes it In the top 5 best pizzas I’ve ever had. Worth the drive/wait. 10/10 would go again.

Google
Great pizza that our family and friends all enjoy equally. Staff is always welcoming and accommodating, which is a big plus.

I'll preface by saying that we were far from impressed when they first opened (+5 years ago?). We were reintroduced to Frank recently through a toddler play date and was caught off guard. So much so we ordered two pies the week after for ourselves. They're making one of the better pizzas we've had in recent memory. Loving the ricotta and meatball pizza.

Yelp
Service always great here and the ambiance is very nice . The pizza that I had today was the clam pizza and it was awesome . Very good pizza with great service lov it !

Yelp
I used to order take out from Frank Pepe's a couple years ago and was the only place I would order pizza from. Decided to come in today for some pizza after my Barry's workout, down the street. We ordered a cream soda, shirley temple, and a medium Amanti Della Carne. They have a deal going on that will save you $10 for your meal (only for new app customers) if you download the app. It was super busy when we went and service was a little slow but understandable. Our server also gave me extra cherries for my shirley temple, and you know you can never go wrong with extra cherries !! Our pizza was delicious, especially with a dash of garlic powder, red pepper flakes, and parmesan. We did have a slight inconvenience with the bill because we had the $10 discount due to signing up for their rewards app and our server scanned the QR code for it. When we paid, they did not include the discount but it was fixed after we found our server.

Tim D.

Yelp
The food was absolutely amazing. I came here because of the one bite reviews and it honestly did not disappoint. The pizza was incredible! The servers were all so nice and helpful. Convenient location in the mall. 20/10

Alexandra A.

Yelp
The Pizza is good just the last few times we received our pizza it was burnt allot on the bottom . I would say a bit more than normal . The service is of high quality, so is the atmosphere. The wait time is on point .

David-Luciana V.

Yelp
Great Pizza... the best Italian style around here. Love it with the nice cold Italian Moretti beer. Excellent service too. I also tried the Cannoli Pie at another location and it was delicious, I wanted to have it again here but unfortunately we had to go. Next time.

Christin K.

Yelp
Amazing new england pizza w chewy burnt crust!!! Not all frank pepe is the same but this location is great! Their crust was not too burnt(just the way i like it) sauce to crust ratio was good, the dough had a nice chew and the place was easy to get in and out of! If you preorder online there is about 30min cook and wait time but its so worth it! We always get the classic margarita and the white clam pizza which is so savory and delicious w a good balance of seafood oil and garlic!!! If you are a seafood fan def give this dish a try

Matt C.

Yelp
Great pizza - the best around. Worth the price, which is a little high. Classic Italian style pie.

Yelp
Recently, I was admitted at Brigham for a medical procedure and had an unbelievable craving for a solid Italian pizza. Everyone knows how terrible hospital food is, so the pizza certainly hit the spot. I jumped onto Uber Eats and found Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana. I've seen the establishment on the app before and just knew I had to give it a try! Being from Chicago, I love trying all kinds of pizzas from all over the country. We ordered from the "Chestnut Hill" location, which wasn't too far from Brigham. Delivery was quick and fresh. Pizza temperature could've been a bit hotter, but that's not the restaurant's fault. Uber/DoorDash should be giving insulated pizza bags for those making pizza deliveries. Their menu is solid with something for every taste! They have your typical options, as well as an expansive Specialty, Fan Favorites, and Create-Your-Own pizza menu. If you can't find a new favorite here, you're not very hungry! In addition to the pizzas, they also have a small selection of fresh and crisp salads. We plan to add that the next time we order! They also have a solid selection of craft sodas to complement your pie. We decided to order the 16" Doppio Pepperoni Pizza. The pizza is crafted with crushed Italian tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, grated pecorino and Romano, olive oil, & extra pepperoni. The sauce was incredible. Not too sweet and not too acidic. It doesn't overpower the pizza. The crust and dough is slightly crisp with a nice chew to it. My only advice is be careful of the size you order! Most places a 12" Pie isn't that large. That said, we typically get a 16" or larger. Here, a medium 16" pie is roughly 12-slices. The portions here are very generous and justify the price. I would order a 12" next time and add a fresh salad. We don't mind warmups, so I have some great pizza for lunch tomorrow! A few improvements I would love to see: I do wish they offered a better dessert menu selection and would offer at least a small selection of appetizers to choose from. I would've loved a small order of wings to go with my pizza! I also noticed they don't cut the pizza very uniformly, a little more effort could be put in for the price. Presentation is important! I look forward to ordering from here many times in the future! If they could make a few small improvements, they'd earn that 5th Star! Prices are pretty reasonable, maybe a touch higher than other spots. However, the portion more than makes up for it! We paid roughly $26 for the 16" Pizza. We both have enough left for a second meal tomorrow! One of my favorite pizzas I have had in Boston! And I am very picky about pizza, given I am from Chicago. Keep up the great work and the great pizza!

Yelp
I used to go to the New Haven location so I was thrilled to finally try the local version. I was heartbroken to find that my favorite pizza, the white clam they're famous for, was terrible. I had to spit out almost every clam because they were so dry and chewy; clearly not fresh/poor quality. A very disappointing $40 pizza.

Kelly O.

Yelp
Actually worth the hype. To my memory, this location's pie is not too far off from the original version in New Haven, which I was not expecting- it had the flavor, texture/chew, quality, and size of the original, and the medium sausage/cheese and classic margherita we ordered held up pretty well during delivery. The slice size was all over the place though, so whomever was cutting it didn't really care- and it's disappointing but probably for the best that their clam pie isn't available for delivery. And of course it's $$$. But it's one of the better pizzas around here nowadays: in a sea of mediocre pizzas, Pepe's remains pretty solid even outside of New Haven.

Lisa R.

Yelp
After hearing about Frank Pepe's for so long, it was on my "bucket list". We drove from the Cape just to go to the New Haven location. Boy, oh boy, were we disappointed. It was horrible. Burnt, no flavor. It was like eating a cardboard box. I think they forgot the cheese completely. Neither of us would waste our time or money again. Sorry, but it was pretty bad.

Erica L.

Yelp
Loved the meatball pizza with ricotta! They also have great soda, and the Caesar salad was good. The food came out quickly and our server was really kind. Def recommend trying a pizza with ricotta or adding ricotta to a pizza like my friend did! So good! Also, easy parking cause it's at the mall and there are tons of spots!

Joy G.

Yelp
Actually, not bad. I think if you go in knowing it's not exactly NY-style pizza, it's pretty tasty. I haven't tried the original in New Haven but as far as mall restaurants go, this one surpassed my expectations. First, you should do a loop to the parking lot in the back of the mall, which is where the entrance to the restaurant is - unless you prefer to take a stroll. And just know that if you pick one of the booths by the windows, everyone passing by will gawk at you shoving your face with pizza. I would pass on the Caesar salad next time. I've been spoiled by some great salads and this one was extremely mediocre. Too many croutons, too much dressing, both the lettuce and the chicken didn't taste super fresh (reminded me of those pre-packaged refrigerated packs of grilled chicken you get at the supermarket). A small size is perfect for two hungry people, a large is good for a family of four. The pizza had a nice crust and cheese, a well-done simple tomato pie, absolutely no frills about it but it satisfied our pizza itch. The one downside is that it was very salty, which made the 4.5 car ride afterwards not super pleasant but I suppose that's just collateral to eating pizza. Service was really nice and the manager came by to check on us.

Thomas T.

Yelp
Watery flavorless, dense pie and not even close to the OG pizza in New Haven, CT. It was so bad we did not want to take the 3/4 's of the large pie we ordered back home and who does that? This place was also pretty empty on the Saturday night we visited, so we should have known better.

Kim M.

Yelp
Hands down the best coal fired pizza and consistently good. I've had a variety of pies - white clam, custom: sausage & cherry peppers, etc. and no matter when we come, the pizza is solid and consistent and 2 of us can easily take down 2-3 pies - it's that good.

Rob B.

Yelp
Had the rustic mushroom and sausage my wife had the cheese both of them were amazing great pizza!

Dino F.

Yelp
Okay, sorry to say... this might be the best pizza in Boston. I'm a big Santarpio's guy. But this just be the best. Amazing

Kit D.

Yelp
I am surprised I haven't gotten around to writing a review for my beloved Frank Pepe's. By far, I can proudly say Frank Pepe's is my favorite pizza place in Massachusetts. I really enjoy their take on charred crust, it brings the entire pizza to life. Would definitely recommend ordering a veggie pizza- their vegetables are always so fresh and compliment the pizza very well.

Michelle F.

Yelp
We do love the pizza here. However, we decided to dine in one evening. We watched a person bussing the tables spray a chemical all over the table with diners very close to each other, all over the chairs, the tops of the salt & pepper shakers, the cheese & red pepper shakers , kind of in disbelief at her carelessness. We mentioned it to the manager, not to get her in trouble, but because it was contaminating the condiments on the table. All he did was pick up the condiments off that table, put them behind the register, without saying a word to her. Then she continued to buss 3 more tables, do the same exact thing again! The manager walked around like he was clueless. We will never dine in at this place again, someone got up & ran out while we were there, without paying, no wonder !!!!

Sophia L.

Yelp
I think the quality has decreased over the years, which is unfortunate because I was excited to show my friends this pizza. The clams in this was not prepped well and I could only think they weren't close to fresh. My friends decided they liked the white clam pizza better in Cambridge. The service was great, but I wish the pizza was better.

Rory O.

Yelp
Just not a huge fan of their overly chewy crust, and just not a ton of flavor to the pepperoni pizza overall. Not terrible, but definitely not worth the hype :/

Jay M.

Yelp
I stopped In as visiting a place at mall . Ordered small sausage, garlic pizza. it wasn't bad. Service was quick and prompt. Pizza was flat thin style vs guys next table had same pizza but a large and crust looked better and more thicker airy. Clean restaurant. $16.25 for pizza, 6.00 for beer... $23.81 total , $28-29 with tip . Not much garlic flavor, sausage nothing to write home about, but abundant quantity as you can see in pic. Pizza was very decent and burnt flavor Crunchy crust vs chewy . I prefer more chew Tomato sauce and cheese very good. I'll return again .

Madman M.

Yelp
Might be the best Pizza in New England. Maybe I'm partial b/c i grew up near the original. Clean & sizable restaurant. Huge fan of their Amonte del carne pie. Service is always good & attentive & wait time for a large pie like this was not bad at all. Needed to replace their plates (b/c of use), which they did recently. Large pie is a little smaller than it used to be - closer to a traditional shape but still terrific. Will definitely be back.

Maria A.

Yelp
ordered the pizza on line for delivery ,when realized the pizza was going to be delivered 2+ hours later I called to cancel the order and they said ok. what is my surprise when I get the pizza almost two hours later and charged 87$. pizza that now we will tomorrow because we already ate one hour before. Not getting Frank Pepe again is a fact

Abby L.

Yelp
Absolutely one of the best pizzas I've ever had. Service was good too. I signed up for their rewards program and got $10 off - I shall be back .

Edward W.

Yelp
I recently passed by this pizzeria when walking through the mall. I noticed that they now have 12 inch pizzas. I decided to order a small customized sausage and mushroom pizza and a cannoli pie. I tried Frank Pepe's a few times in the past but I was not impressed. However, this time, it was not the case. When I got the pizza, it was still piping hot. That definitely made a difference. The pizza was cheesy and it had a lot of sausage and mushroom on the pizza. It was very good! The cannoli pie was also delicious. It's basically a cannoli but in pie form. My only complaints were the pizza box was way too thin and the pizza was a little burnt on the bottom. When a pizza is just hot out of the oven, it's very hard to hold the box with one's bare hands.

Teresa A.

Yelp
Very good old style Italian pizza. Wine served in small juice glasses. Be careful with GPS directions- it directed me to the wrong side of the street.

AJ B.

Yelp
the service was great, the pizza was burnt and had a rubber line taste. One on the worst pizza I have ever had. Waitress was fantastic and friendly.

Sarish B.

Yelp
My sister's best friend raved about Frank Pepe pizza, so we had to try it. I was salivating as I read the titles on the menu. The vegetable pizza was colorful. The red pie was a bit burnt and not as enjoyable to consume. Honestly, the pizza was bland and had little to no seasoning of herbs added to it.

Sam D.

Yelp
Rating of the pizza: 2 stars wouldn't recommend to a friend or ever go back. We ordered the fresh clam pizza (our experience: ) the clam definitely didn't taste fresh. We both took one bite and took it right back out. Not a tasty pizza at all. Maybe the clam wasn't fresh because it was the end of the day and they were busy but yeah not good. We also ordered their original tomato pizza and it was alright but we feel like it was only good because our first pizza wasn't good and we were starving. Our crust was burnt on both pizzas. Usually I enjoy eating the entire dice of pizza but I couldn't eat any of the crust on this pizza because of the burnt taste. I don't see how this place could be categorized as amazing pizza. You can have a better pizza experience at your local mom and pop shop than this place. Service was good, they have dine-in and takeout.

Leeta W.

Yelp
I was SOOOOO excited to try this place. First off, they should tell you on their website which side of the mall to park on so that you don't have to walk through the entire mall to get to it. (I hate malls!! LoL) It was sooooooooooooooooo salty and sooooooooooooooo greasy. I know I know ..pizza is salty and greasy but this was way more than I've had at even the worst pizza joint. I feel like they dumped an entire pig...on EACH slice. Sooo..much...pork. yes, it's a meat pizza but the sausage slices are so thick that it's completely overwhelming. The bacon looks undercooked as well. Even after I picked off all of the meat and ate the slice nekked (the PIZZA slice was ekkes!), it was still too salty...and I LOVE salt. Ugh. Ventures out in the snow/rain/hail (snail?) To get this and I will have to cook dinner anyway...just can't eat another bite. The salad: Not fresh at all...just that standard cheap, grocery store bagged lettuce that you can smell a mile away as the smell is very...distinct. mediocre dressi y and cheap parmesan (Kraft?) instead of real parmesan. Super disappointed and definitely not worth a cheat meal.

Zaraid J.

Yelp
*Rating based solely on FOOD* Presentation: 3 Texture: 4 Flavor: 3 Would return? No Must-try: Gorgonzola Mushroom Pizza Major pro for this pizza is the texture - super crispy bottom and edges, even though the dough is very thin. I also liked the flavor of the dough! The flavor of the pizza overall however was lacking... the veggie pizza lacked salt and the tomato sauce was pretty much flavorless (or perhaps not enough of it). On the contrary, the gorgonzola pizza was very nice - great balance of flavors and seasoned well. Another downside is that the dough tastes burnt, especially the edges - I'm a big fan of crispiness but the edges were straight up black. Prices are very appropriate for the place! Non-Food Stuff: the place is nice, family friendly. It has a mall/diner type of vibe. The staff is also very friendly and the service was great. Pizza came out very quickly! Hope this helps! Z.

Julie G.

Yelp
The online checkin through Yelp is useless and wasn't honored at location. Also wait time projection wasn't accurate.

Chris C.

Yelp
Up there with the OG Pizzeria Regina and Santarpios ... the pizza is made well done (eg parts burnt) and is best with a minimal amount of toppings (3 is a good number) otherwise it get a little soggy. I had a small pepperoni and olive pizza, and it was a lot for one person. There's not much else on thr menu but pizza, so if you are looking for salad pasta or other items this isn't your kinda place

Lori G.

Yelp
Good pizza. Good service. In the mall and you have to walk through the mall (at least on the route 9 parking side ) so fyi. But yummy

Scott W.

Yelp
We came to this place after trying Sally's in New Haven. My son and I were looking to do a New England Pizza Tour, but skipped the original and went to the one here in Massachusetts. It's in a mall, which, I'm usually not a fan of mall restaurants. But, The staff here was friendly and the food was very good. We got a plain pizza to try and it was excellent. I did like Sally's sauce better, but I liked these guys crust better. I wonder what would happen if you combine them both, would be a pretty epic pizza. I also signed up for the rewards program and got $10 off our bill so lunch for two (each of us had unlimited soft drink/tea refills), was $9.90. Overall, great job.

Iris S.

Yelp
I can see why this business has taken over the NE. It heard about CT and it really is very different. The crust is super thin, crisp with no flop. It's almost like a crack r but still has some chew. My family and I really enjoyed their signature clam pizza. It was bursting with seafood/ garlic. The vegetable pizza was loaded with veggies but again no flop! I am a saucier person so I would have liked a tad more but I think that would make things soggy. I would definitely come back here again.

Sandy T.

Yelp
A-pizza! I first tried New Haven pizza a couple of years ago when I was visiting Connecticut and I'm super glad to have a new Haven style pizza option in the area whenever I need my fix! I think some people come in with the expectation of getting a New York style pizza and if that's what you're looking for you'll be disappointed. Don't get me wrong - New York style pizza is delicious as well but it has its place. The New Haven style pizza from Frank Pepe's is crispy, has a great smoky/charred flavor (the dark bits at the bottom of the crust is not burnt - it's charred!), while also maintaining a good chewy crust. I only ever get the white clam pizza here (made with fresh clams) and it's one of my favorite pizzas in the entire world! The only caveat I have is that the pizza can be pricey. A large white clam pizza is $35 not including tax but you get what you pay for!

Eric L.

Yelp
Frank Pepe never disappoints! New Haven, or Boston, it is totally amazing. If you are expecting NY style pizza this is different, and fabulous. Coal fired makes all the difference, and that char!!! Oh man!!

Emily J.

Yelp
Ordered a small customized pizza to go, it was amazing!!! The only tweak I would do next time is click well done which was my fault not to. It was still very good, great flavors the charring on the crust is so good. Will definitely go back!!

Nick W.

Yelp
DO NOT ORDER DELIVERY FROM FRANK PEPE's IN CHESTNUT HILL. They contract their delivery's out to Uber where drivers are working on multiple deliveries at a time. They do not disclose this on their website. My order drove around in an Uber car for 45 minutes after being picked up before it was delivered. This felt unsanitary to me, but when I spoke with the Frank Pepe's manager he said it was safe for the pizza to travel in a deliver car for up to 90 minutes despite the hot, humid temperatures. Needless to say, my pizza was delivered cold and soggy from a humidity beaten pizza box. Never again. Consider everyone warned.

Alicia K.

Yelp
Whenever we are in Chestnut Hill, MA we plan our trip to include a stop at Frank Pepe's. We first encountered this pizza on our homeward bound trip from points West and South via Route 95 where we first dined at their Fairfield, CT location. This is absolutely the best pizza in the world. On 10/10/10, we ordered the meatball with mozzarella cheese. We each only ate one slice out of the huge pizza, but did not hesitate to take the balance home for later. We also love their Birch soda. Again, we took the leftovers home. This pizza is just like we experienced when we were last in Italy. It has a very thin crust, great red sauce, and toppings to stop a parade. While sometimes we also have a side salad, this time we splurged on gelato. A vanilla for my husband and chocolate for me. It was the perfect way to end a meal. Elayne G was our waitress and was able to answer all of my questions regarding the menu, pricing and promotions as I am a member of their rewards program. It is great that I get updates from them in an email every now and then. Bellissimo!

Josh R.

Yelp
Overrated as hell. Crust wasn't good, and sauce was bland.

John S.

Yelp
Meh. Mediocre Margherita pizza for lunch. Sauce is gloopy and pie crust is too hard. Ottos is tastier and crust is chewier. Went here a couple of years ago and had the same experience. A waste of carbs.

Emily M.

Yelp
I ordered a half pepperoni, half mushroom pizza to be delivered, and received a cheese pizza. I called the restaurant, and they more than fixed the problem. It's not the mistake, but how it's fixed, and they did a great job. And the pizza is absolutely delicious. This was my first experience with Frank Pepe's but definitely not the last.

S V.

Yelp
I grew up down the street from Pepe's in New Haven. I wasn't expecting much when I ordered the "tomato pie". I'm so happy to find "abitz" in Boston that's not drowning in oil and cheese. Waitstaff are very friendly too!

Talia S.

Yelp
I have had excellent pizzas from here in the past, but the crust on the one we got last week was awful. It was too thick, tough, and burnt (not in a good way). We threw out the leftovers. I don't know what's happening in the kitchen, but they need to sort out their chefs.

Kevin L.

Yelp
I just called. The people answering the phone are rude and disrespectful. So disappointed. Never again. Sorry Frank. Bye bye.

Donna H.

Yelp
Great good snd service Never disappoints......seared right away ... service was excellent..... waitress attentio
