Where to Enjoy a Glass of Chardonnay This Summer in the Tampa Area | Eater

"Café Cibo owner Frank Schittino opened this classic, old-school steakhouse on St. Pete’s 4th St. North to address the neighborhood’s serious steak void. In the two years since, it has become one of the most popular spots in Pinellas County, offering an impressive selection of wagyu and other cuts alongside a large menu of Italian-American classics. The fresh-pulled mozzarella is not to be missed, as each one is made to order. Pair it with a glass of Harken Chardonnay for a refreshing summer starter before delving into the rich red sauces and red meat." - Matthew Meltzer

Where to Celebrate International Chardonnay Day in Tampa | Eater

"At an upscale Italian restaurant and steakhouse, a top-tier wine list is a must. Frankie’s is no exception. The massive space along 4th Street North comes from Frank Schittino, the Sicilian restauranteur behind neighborhood stalwart Café Cibo. He brings the same homestyle, hearty Italian fare to Frankie’s, where house-made pastas, hand-pulled mozzarella, and glasses of Harken Chardonnay have made it an instant hit." - Matthew Meltzer

I was looking forward to eating here. Our server was amazing. The food was a huge disappointment. We all got the specials and regretted it. My Bison tenderloin was not good at the price we paid for the steak, very chewy. My father and wife ordered the seafood spicy gumbo( I do not remember what the actual name was). At the price they charged, getting only 3 shrimp is absolutely insane, and the amount of other seafood was very lacking. The server recommended Tiramisu, and he said it was their specialty. It was the absolute worst I have ever had. Very saturated and mushy. Very sugary. They took it off the bill. Once I complained to the server, he changed his demeanor. Very short after that. I spoke to the manager at the end, and he would have taken the steak of the bill. I ate it, so I paid. Not looking for a free meal.

Frankie’s Italian Chophouse delivers a memorable dining experience with a mix of standout specials and a thoughtfully curated menu. From the moment we sat down, the service was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. Our server guided us through the night’s offerings, and I’m especially grateful for the recommendation to try the sea bass—it was perfectly cooked, tender, and rich with melt-in-your-mouth flavor. We also sampled the octopus, though for my taste, it leaned a bit too heavily on the char. It’s worth noting that Frankie’s cooks their steaks and many proteins at a high temperature in a brick oven, giving them a deeply charred crust. If that’s not your preference, you might want to explore other options on the menu. One unexpected highlight was my cocktail—the tequila-based “Bloody Revenge.” It was bold, balanced, and absolutely delicious. Overall, Frankie’s isn’t the best steakhouse I’ve ever visited, but it brings its own charm and a distinctive local vibe. For a unique spin on classic chophouse fare with some Italian flair, it’s definitely worth a visit.

Everything was delicious from the appetizer to the dessert! Amazing service as well! I would definitely return. If you don’t prefer the wood fired grill and char to cook your meats, no problem, just ask for pan cooked and they will make it happen.

Google
This place was overall a good experience. They had a good steak but could have definitely done better on the sides. We ordered just about one of everything on the menu, and the steaks were about the only thing I would go back for. The risotto was the only thing that was a little disappointing. I would definitely not order it again.

Experienced Frankie’s Italian Chop house on Valentine’s Day! The entire experience was great and the food was absolutely delicious. We started off with the grilled oysters and they were perfectly cooked and tasted amazing! I had the shrimp scampi and the shrimp were a colossal! It was a great portion of food. My boyfriend got the veal chop which included pasta, it was delicious as well. Our server was very friendly and made our experience a great time. Overall, the ambience, food, and service was a 10.

I Enjoyed the food they had great customer service and the atmosphere was dim lit and italian. I went on a Monday at 7PM there was not many people and I will come back. The meatball & Marinera pasta was great! The bread service had fabulous garlic dipping sauce. Calamari was good! will update review on second visit. remember be consistent, serve food in a timely

Amazing atmosphere, menu and staff. Definitely try the F1 Wagyu steaks, they literally melt in your mouth and are arguably the best steaks I’ve ever had! Seafood was premium as well!!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Google
Only need 1 word here, delicious. We ordered the Bread and Octopus for appetizers. Bread was plentiful and was served with a delicious dipping sauce. The Octopus was the most tender I have ever eaten. The Veal parmesan was cooked perfectly. The Elk Chops were the best. Chops were thick enough and so tender (get them medium). I can't say enough good things about this establishment. J.D. was our server and provided excellent service. We did eat early (5:30pm) so the restaurant was not busy yet. Pricey but oh so delicious.

Yelp
Service was extremely kind and fast. That being said, we were in and out of the restaurant in under an hour (we ordered 3 courses, but did order dessert to go so I will keep that in mind!) Even with that, for the price of our dinner, I wish we would have gotten more of an enjoyable, slower experience. The food was decent, steaks definitely melted in your mouth. The calamari was extremely fishy, and the only item that we got that I wouldn't recommend.

Yelp
Me and my wife went to Frankie's and had a great meal. I ordered the chicken cacciatore and she had pasta with bolognese sauce with a huge meat ball. Both dishes were huge and the sauces were to die for! We also had the fresh made mozzarella horsd'oeuve. Then after the pasta dishes came out, we ordered the bread which came with a dipping sauce unlike we had never had before. Sooo goood!!! Our waiter, EZ, was very helpful and real courteous. The restaurant was a nice atmosphere, real clean! It was pricey but the food was excellent We will be going back for sure.

Yelp
Love Happy Hour at Frankie's. The atmosphere is so romantic with live music some nights. Great wines and full bar plus delicious apps. Married to an Italian, we are both picky with the sugo (sauce) and theirs is perfect!!

Yelp
Thank you to our wonderful server, Andrea, who allowed for a beautiful evening. We had the bread service that comes with our favorite side dipping sauce, and then the wood fire grilled ribeye and red smashed potatoes. The star of the night was the recommended cherry creme brûlée cheesecake! Highly recommend!!

Yelp
I forgot to take pics!!! But OMG - I'm used to North End Boston Italian and just had the best hand stretched mozzarella ever!! The carpaccio was also amazing. We had the filet, ribeye, and my strip and the wood grill on all were amazing. Thank you to Justin for your impeccable service. A must try in the area!!

Yelp
I've been meaning to try this place for some time now. Came here with friends on a Thursday night around 8pm. We had actually made reservations for 8:30 and were expecting to just have some drinks at the bar but the hostess sat us right away. There were only about 5 other tables occupied. It was quite slow which I thought would've been a good thing in terms of the speed of service. Not the case. It took forever to get drinks, to get the check and then to run the credit card. Our particular server was friendly but perhaps not cut out for being a server. Started off with the carpaccio and bread service. The dipping sauce for the bread is by far the star of this show. My understanding is that it's one of the staples that connect this place to Cafe Cibo. I can see why. It's amazing! They really ought to jar it up and sell it. I'd likely buy a whole case of it. I went with the pork chop for the main and it was ordered at medium temperature. It was way over charred and black (see picture). Although still quite most and flavorful it wasn't prepared correctly at all. The sides were good. In summary the service was slow, the food wasn't prepared correctly, and the service was far too slow on a non busy night. I'm glad I tried it but I don't think I'll be back any time soon. There are far better valued places in the area. It was a regrettable $300 dinner but c'est la vie.

Yelp
Really wanted to love it the second time as we went when they recently opened the first time . The service was meh, as last time. Not sure why because they were not super busy. The steak was CHAR CHAR . Some people love it , I'm not that person. Same ambiance happy it seems they installed some sound barriers or acoustics because we could hear the whole table. Really wanted to love but a little left to be desired.

Yelp
I wanted to like Frankie's so bad. Alas, I found it quite mid. Bland, under seasoned. Nothing to write home to mom about. After three visits, maybe this just isn't my place. It is for someone else. Enjoy!

Yelp
Food, cocktails, ambiance.. and our waiter were all fantastic. We found this place by accident and was the best accident ever. Do yourself a favor and go.

Yelp
We get in and it has a very nice Italian restaurant vibe. When we get seated I order a Filet Minon (8 Oz for $48) with a few apptizers and sides. The calamari was ok, and the anti-pasta and the Mac and Cheese were quite good. When I get the steak it is very poorly presented, and when I took my first bite, I was severely disappointed. I had steak from Longhorn Steakhouse two days ago and that was a bigger portion, same cut, better price, and tasted a lot better. Although the server was very nice, mine and the other parties food was quite underwhelming, and this leads to us most likely not being back.

Yelp
Best steak house in Tampa Bay by far. I've been there many times including opening day. Food is always awesome. One of the best Wagu steaks period. Keep it up!

Yelp
As Miami locals, every time we visit St. Petersburg, we make it a point to dine at Frankie's--and it never disappoints. This time, we were a party of five, including my son and his girlfriend, who were visiting for the first time. Marcin, our server, was exceptional. He went above and beyond to explain the menu and made sure we felt well taken care of. His warm and attentive service truly elevated our dining experience. The food, as always, was exquisite, with each dish prepared to perfection. The drinks were equally impressive, adding to the overall enjoyment of our meal. Frankie's continues to set the standard for excellent food and service. We highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area. You won't be disappointed!

Yelp
We had an incredible experience and our first time at this restaurant. Our waiter was Easy, he was funny and knowledgeable and did a great job. Our selections were: bread service (amazing) I want the secret recipe for the sauce, crab cake appetizer (tons of lump crab), veal piccata (huge portion). Can't wait to go back. Thank you.

Yelp
We visited Frankie's last evening and it did not disappoint! The drinks, good ambiance and service were outstanding. We started with the stretched mozzarella and it was a presentation beautiful and tasted amazing... melted in your mouth- yum! It was was enough for our table of four. I had the shrimp scampi! The linguine and shrimp were cooked perfectly it was the right combination of butter, lemon and garlic....definitely worth a try. It was a very busy Saturday night and our server Tony was very attentive. I strongly recommend giving Frankie's a try... make a reservation! Overall, we had a wonderful meal and evening with friends!

Yelp
1st time at Frankies, had been looking forward to it for quite some time. She ordered the Stuffed Maine Lobster special, and I ordered the 16oz Ribeye. To start, we ordered a bottle of Caymus Cabernet, it appeared to be a surprisingly good deal at $40, I'd found it around this same price in the past at Total Wine. Unfortunately, this was not by the bottle, although it was not listed in the "By the Glass" section, implying it was a "By the Bottle" price. Definitely some unfortunate sticker shock when the bill arrived, the Caymus Cab is a nice wine but not a $175/bottle nice (which I suppose was a discount, had it been made clear $40 on the menu was per glass). The lobster was extremely tough and arrived without the sherry cream sauce, or any sauce. We ate very little but took the remaining home to chop up and maybe make some lobster mac-n-cheese or lobster pizza. For the steak, it came out looking beautiful and was cooked perfectly to a cool rare. It was poorly trimmed and lost probably 20% of the16 ounces to grizzle, but once past the outer grizzle, the steak was perfectly cooked with just the right amount of grill crust and smokiness. We had the veal meatball appetizer, they were rich, tender and altogether outstanding. Service staff were all outstanding. The atmosphere was great, the main dining room was appropriately dimly lighted but, for those of us that need just a little extra light to read the menu, there were small lamps on the tables that provided the right amount of light without taking away from the atmosphere. There were some hits and some misses and the misses on the lobster special, poorly trimmed ribeye, and per-bottle/per-glass wine pricing menu discrepancy will likely be too much for us to return.

Yelp
drinks were fine,. appetizers , cheese appetizer was good, calamari wasn't it wad rubbery and tasteless. main courses can out essentially cold. I order the NY strip nd the plate was cold when it was put down and the steak was room temp. sides were k. Mac and Cheese & risotto were fine, asparagus and brussel sprouts weren't very good, they had very little flavor profile. we had desserts which were fine. for 7 people the bill was $900. save your money and go somewhere else. there are way better Italian restaurants and steak house available in the ares. i know ill never return here again. Waiter was fine and service was solid. food was below par and at this price point a giant disappointment.

Yelp
Fabulous place. Great service, wonderful ambience and excellent food. It is a bit expensive but worth every penny for the personal attention you receive. They give generous options. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Place looks ran down from the outside but the Inside looks nice. Went in on a random Tuesday night to see a nicely filled restaurant. The prime porterhouse was okay, I do like charred steaks but this was a little bit too charred, I can see why other people dislike the steaks. I personally think the steak was under seasoned as well. The doneness of the steak was good The veal meatballs are not bad - has a good size, just think the sauce underneath was a little bit watery, wish it was tightened up more so it holds up on the meatball well. I also appreciate a dollop of ricotta, every meatball needs that. I recommend they mix the meatballs with (more) pecorino romano so the meatballs become more savory and have a better mouthfeel. The "crispy" brussels sprouts were not that crispy, but they tasted good. I love that they added caramelized onions. Arancini balls were cooked great on the outside but unfortunately they were cold in the inside, like pretty cold. Sent it back to the kitchen twice but to no prevail. An easy way to this is to make the balls smaller so it cooks quicker and add another to make up for portion control - or don't, their choice I didn't take a picture put their bread service is really good, get that I think the best thing in the restaurant (that i've tried so far) is the pasta. The steak alfredo i got was awesome! Beautiful presentation, you can tell how good pasta is by the way you mix it in the bowl. The fettuccine was chewy and cooked perfectly. The steak was charred hard but it tasted good in the heavy alfredo sauce. I also recommend asking for extra pepper on the pasta so it has more texture Overall, It's not a bad place for a date, I'd come here again - just only for the pasta. This place has promise in the feature if they fix some minor issues.

Yelp
Great food awesome drinks fantastic service a must try and see for yourself I can't say enough about this place

Yelp
I was in town visiting some family and we all went to Frankies Chophouse for dinner. nice place with a cool feel and the food was gas. sever was Sam. I remember him from when I used to live here and he worked at bascums. he's was very attentive and helped us through the menu. I would highly recommend eating here. Great food and great service.

Yelp
This was our first time there. We were a table of 8 and service was perfect, especially for a Saturday night at rush. Our server was delightful Jilly I believe her name was. Everyone had something different and it was all good. Pasta, steaks, chicken cacciatore all was good. Not true Italian but good. The calamari and the mozzarella tomato salad with bread service was delicious. It was a little loud but okay for a large restaurant. We'll go back and try some of their wagu beef possibly.

Kristin T.

Yelp
Russell was our server and he was fantastic, friendly and attentive! Food was very good, cocktails were delish and the bread appetizer with the dipping sauce was very good (unfortunately didn't get a photo). The scallops were delish and they were cooked perfect and I enjoyed the lobster risotto just wish it had the chunks of lobster.

Yelp
It was pretty noisy when we ate there and the entire restaurant is open in one room, no privacy. The food is okay but not really up to fine dining just yet. The service was also lack luster. Hopefully they get it together when they have been open longer. I doubt I will go back to see it. Many better options at that price point.

David R.

Yelp
Read reviews and decided to give this a try . Most of the issues with many was the noise level so I called as we were going on a Tuesday night . The person who answered said they have live music Friday and Saturday and it tends to be louder but during the week it's low volume Frank Sinatra . That sold me . My date and I arrived at 7 pm and were seated immediately as not huge crowd on a Tuesday night . Our waiter was very helpful so we leaned on him for ideas . We went with the stretched Mozzarella app and it was delicious . Throw in the bread and the dipping sauce and I could have quit right there . For our main meals the waiter said the ribeyes were great and not overly marbled so we both opted for the rib eye . Mine was ordered medium rare and hers was medium well and both came out as ordered . The steaks were delicious . One of best steaks I have ever had . We had sides of Risotto and side of potatoes and both were excellent . We really enjoyed our visit and we both tend to like to go out during the week as not into huge crowded restaurants on weekends and this place fit our needs to perfection ... Im not a drinker so really cant comment on any of the drinks but the water cold Great dining experience and excellent service
google avatar

Chris T.

Yelp
A group of 8 friends and myself were here the past Friday evening. Reservations were at 6 and we were seated immediately. The menu has a lot to offer but not much to where you are stuck deciding for 15 minutes. I had the NY strip and it was phenomenal. They grill fire their steaks so it has a flight char to them. I love that! We ordered 6 different sides and not one disappointed. The live "rat pack" singer was a nice add to the evening. The only thing that did not fit was the charge for bread. It was a first for me to have a restaurant charge for bread but I assume there is a reason. Definitely not a deal breaker as everything g else about this place was a superb!

Yelp
This is my new Favorite place! It is fun,and food. My steak was cooked to perfection! Great energy amazing staff and service and to make it even better Frank Sinatra singers!

Fredric Z.

Yelp
This was a place that we had frequented and enjoyed. Unfortunately we went there for New Year's and it was a disaster! We had reservations for 7:30 and ordered from the fixed (expensive) menu. They had already run out of one of the three appetizers (octopus) and the desert (carrot cake) we wanted. We asked the manager why they had already run out of food and he said (rudely) - "hey, we're busy - what do you want me to do?" Very poor attitude. Too bad. The food was good but the attitude was horrible- we won't be back
google avatar

Deborah E.

Yelp
What a wonderful menu! Delicious and tasty items that we ordered. The service was personal and attentive. The ambiance was a bit loud, but they are working on it with some baffling on the walls and the ceiling. We truly enjoyed our dinner on a Wednesday evening! Although we thought we would have a wait-it was so busy! We will return.

Tereza K.

Yelp
Best Italian steak house ! Service at the Bar was great from Zak The singer Dino Vito spectacular. Frank Sinatra voice There no better place to enjoy music & delicious dining. The steaks were great the way they cook adds a great outer crust and the temperature was perfect. The ribeye was excellent the best I've had in years. Very tender great flavor and seasoned perfectly. Thank You Frankie for a wonderful evening

Yelp
Exceptional! My husband and I love this place. We were blown away by how delicious the food is. The octopus and bread service were exceptional. The squid ink pasta and steak alfredo were so delicious! We love this place

Yelp
Love the food. An excellent bourbon list. And JD gave perfect service. I had an unusual situation and he knew just what to do

Yelp
This is our favorite neighborhood restaurant, the food is always wonderful and the staff are first class. I love the cozy steakhouses vibe.

Yelp
I've been to Frankie's a few times and I live close by so really wanted it to be great. I went with my family right when they opened and some of the dishes were just OK and the environment was really noisy. The service was.... stressfully. I was worried Frankie's would yet be another just OK hyped up St. Pete establishment. It's really great when places go from OK to GREAT so quickly!!! They have worked out their vision and settled into a true gem of an establishment. After the last few times coming here I have to say it may be one of the best Italian steakhouses in Tampa bay when you consider service, food quality, drinks, and environment. Their steak cuts are always very good and nicely seasoned. The specials are done with care and are a delight. The beef wellington they served last weekend was just amazing. In addition, the service at the bar where we were able to get five people seated with a full five star service experience just made me love this place more. Bartenders that can make tasty drinks, serve up a perfect dinner, and do it with a fun smile. Ignore all the negative reviews of this place and give it a try. If this place keeps it up I bet it will become a Tampa Bay favorite all around.

Yelp
Food was delicious and service was top notch. My fiance and I both had steak dinners and shared a side of brussel sprouts. The onion bacon jam on the sprouts was 10/10. Cannot wait to come back!!!

Jake B.

Yelp
This was our second visit to Frankie's and we chose to come back because of a memorable experience the first visit. However, this time was memorable but not in a good way. We were seated very close to a large and very loud group when the majority of the dining area was empty making communication difficult. Melissa our server was very friendly and attentive. We received our 2 appetizers, one was octopus that was over charred and the beef tartare came with 3 large chunks of cheese on top instead of crumbled or shredded. We ordered the "wagyu" tomahawk medium rare, and whatever cut of meat they actually sent out was dry, chewy and had zero marbling, I would liken it to a cheap overcooked sirloin at best. The brussel sprouts were tasty and the mushrooms which came instead of mushroom risotto were good as well. Overall the best part of the experience was having Melissa and her great service. We have no plans to return in the future.

Yelp
The food was sooooo good and the service was great!! Highly recommend and I can't wait to come back in!!

Yelp
My 16oz ribeye tasted burnt. As in, it literally left dry ashes on the plate. The manager stopped by to check on our table and I let him know it wasn't a good steak. He said they have an 800 degree wood fire and the steak is supposed to taste charred and that "next time" we could request less charr. He didn't offer an edible replacement. We left the restaurant with the steak uneaten. There won't be a next time. The sides were good and our server was attentive, but the management was a total fail.

Trey P.

Yelp
In Tampa Bay, I've been to Bascom's, Rococo's, Bern's, Ruth's Chris, Charley's, Malio's.... Most of the upscale Steakhouses. Frankie's is on the top of my list. The most delectable, tender, juicy steak you'll find from Tampa to Timbuktu. Best Mozz around, best old fashioned, and I would tell you about the carrot cake, but I want it all to myself! I will support this business as long as they stick around. Great job!

Sara D.

Yelp
We are locals, live close by, been meaning to try this restaurant. Everything about it far exceeded our expectations. The food was phenomenal. Everything we tried was perfect, very fine dining Italian cuisine taste. The service was excellent, we loved Russell! He had excellent suggestions, very professional yet personable. The ambiance isn't super fancy like a 5 start steakhouse, but it's nicer inside than you'd think. We will definitely be back!

Debe N.

Yelp
Charging too much for entrees that are bland with no flavor profile. Steak tartare - no flavor...risotto side dish was over cooked- no flavor. Ribeye Steak was a ribeye steak. No wow factor for $55!

Yelp
I've been to Frankie's two times now. It's disappointing to see negative reviews posted around an isolated experience. I don't believe that hiccups surrounding a restaurant opening should result in permanent negative reviews. In my two visits to Frankie's, the vibe was great, the ambience was comfortable, the drink list was impressive, and the food was absolutely outstanding. In my first visit, we had several of the appetizers, steak with sides, dessert, and some great wine and cocktails mixed within. In the second visit, we tried some other things on the menu and we also snagged the special of the evening, Beef Wellington. I'm not even slightly kidding when I tell you that I had dreams about the Beef Wellington that night. It was so good! The service staff was on point, super accommodating, and they went above and beyond. I would highly encourage anyone who had a challenged experience near the opening of the restaurant to go back and give it another shot. And everyone else who hasn't been, go give Frankie's a try. You will not be disappointed! I am very much looking forward to the next visit.

Yelp
I heard great things about this place but unfortunately very disappointed. Ambience was very nice but as the time passed, it got very loud. Our server Marcin was nonexistent. Started with the "fresh/stretched" mozzarella which was suggested to us by the server. Came out cold and congealed but since someone else brought it, not much we could do. I make homemade mozz so I know how delicious it is fresh and warm. Server came around after our main course was delivered-- everything was cold - cold Wellington which is a signature dish for $130. When the server finally came over approx 20min after being served he was in too much of a hurry that my husband had to grab his arm. I told him my food was cold and I got the deer in the headlights look. I asked for gravy and wine because I thought the gravy would warm it up. Gravy came out and it helped minimally. We were done eating and ordered dessert/ coffee. Coffee was cold and old. I cancelled the wine because we were done eating. Dessert was good- carrot cake. Someone dropped off a glass of wine but I told him I cancelled it. When the server came, my husband said we cancelled it. He did remove it from our tab. We won't be back-- Food cold, server inattentive and not sure microwaving tomorrow will help (at least it will be warm). Maybe teach servers to check on their food in the window so it's served warm.

Yelp
Food is delicious! Service was fantastic on top of everything! Nice place the only downside is the acoustics are not so good . It gets loud. We have gone 2 weeks in a row, the veal parmigiana is delicious .

Yelp
Frankie's was really good. We had the Mozzarella plate along with the Tomahawk Ribeye (cut by chef) to share with Brussel Sprouts. Mozzarella was a little flat and could have had more tomatoes but the flavor was great. Tomahawk was very plentiful and cooked to Medium. I will admit there was more fat than I would have liked but it was enough that we left 2 slices left. Brussel Sprouts were charred and had tons of bacon which was really good. The service was the best part because Scott our server was very attentive and we always got what we needed fast. Overall, for $150 (no alcohol) it seems a bit steep for the meal but it was good. I would say would be nice to go with family members but if you are trying to impress a date with a foodie, I would pick another place.

Yelp
The food was lovely. The service was non-existent and not at all charming. There is such potential here. I really hope they replace their arrogance with training. They could be one of St. Pete's very best restaurants. I really do wish them well. We loved the Frank Sinatra music!
