Frankie’s, a beloved Miami pizzeria since 1955, delights with its crispy square pies, perfect for dining in or taking home for later enjoyment.
"Frankie’s is Miami’s oldest pizza shop. Its retro sign has been hanging over Bird Road since 1955, and people have been taking boxes of the square pizza home to eat on the couch ever since. This is not Detroit-style—the slices are much thinner—but the corner slices still have those edges with delicious little burnt bits. Frankie’s also sells “half-baked” pies in case you want to finish yours in the oven at home. But it’s going to taste better if you eat it hot and fresh at one of the cement tables in the back. "If you are sick of the trendy $50 pizzas that have spread across Miami, Frankie’s will feel refreshing. Its retro sign has been hanging over Bird Road since 1955, and people have been taking boxes of the square pizza home to eat on the couch ever since. This is not Detroit-style—the slices are much thinner—but the corner slices still have those edges with delicious little burnt bits. This place also sells “half-baked” pies in case you want to finish yours in the oven at home. But it’s going to taste better if you eat it hot and fresh at one of the cement tables in the back while you remember the days when going out for pizza wouldn’t set you back $100." - virginia otazo, ryan pfeffer
"A “first” is one of the most memorable moments in a person’s life. Many Miami natives can reminisce on their first slice of pizza because Frankie’s has been around since 1955, still serving the same crispy square slices. With a secret recipe guarded for almost 60 years, this pizza joint has become a historical landmark in the Magic City." - Olee Fowler
"The retro sign for Frankie’s has been hanging over Bird Road since 1955, and people have loved the square pizzas here ever since. The slices are thinner and crispier than similar square pizzas you’ll find in Detroit or the Northeast—but the corner slices still have those perfect edges with delicious little burnt bits. A lot of people take them to-go, and this place also sells “half-baked” pies in case you want to finish yours in the oven at home. "Pepperoni Pizza There’s been tons of exciting new pizza openings in Miami lately. But there is something comforting about an old school neighborhood spot that’s been around for decades and has never used the word “sourdough” once. Frankie’s on Bird Road is that kind of place. We picked up a pepperoni pie this week, and opted to get it “half-baked”—which basically means you get to finish cooking it at home. It’s a great option, because if you’re not afraid of using the broiler you can get the thin, square slices extra crispy." - ryan pfeffer, carlos c olaechea
