I want to preface this with saying my husband and I come to Frasca every other month lately, because we really enjoy the food, the patio, and atmosphere. However, tonight we had a less than stellar experience.
The server greeted us and after we ordered drinks, he asked for our IDs. I unfortunately forgot my ID, and because of this, was told by the server I would not be able to get a drink. I asked if I could provide a digital copy of my license and he said no and that it was against policy. From there, the server started becoming extremely disrespectful and hostile. I asked a few follow up questions, like if I could provide a digital passport photo, and he became extremely hostile, raising his voice and saying "you're making it difficult to do my job." Then he said, "well are you going to decide if you're going to stay." This was strange because it felt like he wanted us to leave. Although my husband said he could grab my license, I insisted he didn't need to and that I'd be fine sticking with water or a non-alcoholic beverage. We were actually ready to order appetizers but the server continued to be hostile. I did mention I was surprised by the new policy and that we were just here a few weeks ago, he implied that we were lying and said "well, I haven't seen you here." We were finally done with the way we were being treated and decided to leave, but I did flag to the host stand. They were kind enough to flag to the manager, who immediately came over to address the situation. I will say the manager was very apologetic and kind and admitted that the server raising his voice and being hostile was not acceptable. She said she would address the situation and admitted that things have been tense lately between customers and servers due to the new requirement of asking for ID to order alcoholic beverages. We did end up deciding to leave because at the end of the day, as a non-white woman, I did not feel comfortable staying for dinner. I mention my gender and race because the server happened to be a white male.
I am not upset about being asked for ID and not being served alcohol. I am upset because a restaurant my husband and I go to frequently made me very uncomfortable. We live locally in the neighborhood and not only go to Frasca, but also go to crosbys and Ella elli. So to say I'm disappointed is an understatement. I will say we like the food at all establishments, but at this point I'd rather go to other Italian inspired restaurants in the area that don't treat loyal customers this way.
