Fratelli's Wood Fired Pizzeria - Avalon

We have had breakfast and lunch at this recently opened restaurant in Avalon. Both were excellent. The breakfast potatoes were the best that I have had anywhere. We had the eggplant special appetizer and the salsiccia and Ventura pizzas. The pizzas were excellent, as good or better than we have had anywhere (including in Italy). And we can’t say enough about Jordan, the manager and our server. He is amazing! Avalon was overdue for a good pizzeria and now it is here. Looking forward to more good food there.

This place is not good. They didn’t have steak for their Philly cheesesteak on their menu. They also didn’t have mayo or honey mustard. The “sprite” they gave us was not carbonated and tasted watered down. The pizza was good but the fries and chicken fingers were also way overcooked. They also do not split check!!! There are so many other better pizzas places down the shore. Side note, it was at least 80 degrees in here and I’m not sure if there is any air circulation.

The pizza was really not all that great. We had the Mushroom one. Not very much mushroom or cheese. There was about 3 inches at end of crust that was all crust, no cheese or mushrooms. Might have had a 1/2 cup mushrooms on a large pizza and really unsure if it was really wood fired. The waitstaff was great thou.

They don’t know how to make a cheese steak. It appeared it was all too much for the chef to get entrees out at the same time, We all got our entrees at different times and ended up eating cold food. Like the menu options very much.

Walked in asked for a slice they dont sell slices so they said we have small pies. 18.95 for a small pie which is the equivlennt of about 2 1/2 slices. We were given no napkins and the place had no drinks. This is a place that thinks they are better then a pizza place and they are not. Check out nemos they have slices. Pizza was sub par as well.

Only have had pizza and salad there both times. It was two of the best pizzas I’ve ever had. I’m picky about my pizza. Eggplant was real eggplant slices roasted, delicious sauce, perfect thin crust. Excellent! Caesar salad was good too. Shared leftovers with friends next day and they loved it too. We had a late lunch post season and were the only ones there which was even nicer than the crowds last time. So we got to speak with the chef who was very friendly and helpful. Can’t remember what we had a few years ago but my friend and I enjoyed it very much, which is why I went again. Will definitely go again when I’m back in Sea Isle City.

Food we got was great, but... Said "we don't do gorgonzola wings in Avalon", even though they were on the menu. Ok, fine. Wouldn't honor a 15% off takeout coupon... said "we stopped taking them during the summer", despite the coupon being valid through July 15, 2022. They have great pizza. But lousy business ethics. I'm not that upset over what would have been a $7 discount. It's the principle. I have no tolerance for dishonesty.

Yelp kept insisting I write this review in email after email, so here goes. Fratelli's did not disappoint. We had no trouble finding a nearby parking spot on a busy weekend in Avalon. The staff did nothing to make our experience unpleasant, and I have nothing bad at all to say about the pizza. I don't recommend you try eating here though because this restaurant is closed.

Pies were decent, slightly overpriced but this is Avalon, where everything is expensive. Cooks not wearing masks, but the server doing the takeout was masked. The polpette appetizer was tasty but way to small for the money. It's one of the only wood-fired pizzerias around, so when you're desperate....

We stopped in Avalon for a day at the beach and decided to check out Fratelli's. They were just setting up for evening service. That means they were putting out tables, in front of the restaurant. They did a really nice job of it, with white tablecloths, real silverware and a cloth napkin-- something I haven't seen much of. It was impressive. The pizza-- a pepperoni pie-- was tasty and we enjoyed eating there. The pie was a bit pricey at $20, but as others have observed, this IS Avalon. We took home the leftovers and they were delicious the next day.
