Fred's Texas Cafe - Western Center

The food was amazing. We went there last night (Saturday night at 5:30) for our family night out. There were 7 adults and 3 children. We had to wait a while for a table. I don’t know if they take reservations or not, but I’ll check next time for sure. They have new twists on chicken fried steaks (I got the Outlaw Chicken Fried with a stuffed poblano pepper). I loved it. Someone at the table ordered candied bacon and it was spicy and delicious! I will definitely be ordering that again. The 3 people at the table who ordered hamburgers said they were great but that the fries were horrible. They looked horrible. Very soggy and bland. If you want good, crispy, fries go somewhere else. If you get a hamburger substitute your side or request that the fries be crisp. The waiter was great. I don’t remember his name, unfortunately but he knew his business. Very efficient. My only really negative thing about Fred’s is the atmosphere. It was so incredibly noisy that we couldn’t even talk to the person sitting next to us. People were yelling all over the restaurant trying to visit. Now, having only been there this one time I can’t say if it’s always that noisy. And to be fair, there was a large, very happy party sitting at the table next to us, which was a hefty chunk of the noise. Bottom line: Fred’s is great if you don’t mind a very noisy meal.

Finally decided to try this place thought it was kind of pricey for burgers. It's worth every penny. We loved everything. One of the best burgers and chicken fried steak ever. Don't know why but the pepper and cheese on top seemed kind of weird but I tried it and it was amazing

The best burgers in town ever and Houston is the greatest bartender. You can always go to Fred's for great food and drinks with awesome friendly service

The food was very good. Their spicy options are excellent, but their plain options, like the chicken fried steak I had, were too plain. The portions are huge and their prices are kind of high as well. Also, the amount of gravy they provided was too little for the potatoes and the steak. And the amount of dressing for the salad was not enough. I should have asked for more of both. Overall, good food, great service, but a bit expensive. We will go back but not very often.

Great country fried steak- loved the batter on it and the fried pickles, was VERY crispy! I got the outlaw so the stuffed pepper (with cheese) was a great addon too. Loved the outdoor seating and am definitely coming back for steaks! Btw, no I did not finish that in one go. The fried pickles were great but also heavy on the salt- so drink a lot of water!

I hate to admit but I saw this restaurant on tv and had to try. It wasn’t a disappointment at all. The burgers are definitely a staple food Bolo burger. As seen on tv. It was better than expected. The bologna had a nice Smoky flavor that did not overpower the burger. It’s a must try. Sticky burger. A strange burger because it uses bacon infused peanut butter with jalapeño jelly. Umm I loved it. The fattyness of peanut butter complimented the acidic jalapeño jelly with the burger. My kid and I loved it. Bleu cheese burger. It was good bleu cheese burger nothing really stood out as special. The meats were juicy though. Twisted x float. I think that was the name. It was not worth the premium for the spicy sweet bacon. Jfyi. Wait to be seated. It can get loud with music and people. Parking can be limited during peak times.

Fred's has crazy good menu selections. The food is fabulous! The service is really good and fast. The Zaragoza with Dr. Pepper candied bacon, Oaxaca cheese and candied jalapenos is a must try!

Once we've ordered the food came out at a reasonable timeframe. We ordered the Diablo burger and queso burger. They were alright and the fries were okay too.

I'm going to park this right here! One of the best burgers we have had in a long time. The hamburger is seasoned and Juicy, (perfectly cooked) the bun is light and airy with the right amount of toasting. 2 slices of tomatoes, with cheese, extra pickles, onions, mayo and mustard. Pure perfection. The fries arrived hot and seasoned. I'd challenge anyone to find a better burger in DFW. To whom ever could eat "the big Fred" deserves a medal! Service was exceptional. Fast and courtesy with a warm smile.

We had a party of 8, and our waitress was very attentive and took great care of us. The portions are huge, the food was well seasoned, and we all left happy. The environment is fun, with a lot of Texas themed decorations, neon signs, and music in the background. Fred's is definitely worth a visit, but make sure you show up hungry!

You NEVER go wrong at Fred's. The food is always fantastic, the beer always cold, and the service and people are exceptional. We bring our grandkids, visitors, and friends here. Quickly became our weekly go to bar and grill.

I wanted to try Fred's since coming to TX because it was on Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive In and Dives. It did not disappoint. We tried the loaded fries. It's enough for 3 or 4 to eat from. The Big Smash burger and the Hot Honey chicken is to die for. The hot honey chicken was delicious. The classic margaritas had a nice punch to it it. I love classic cocktails. Needless to say, I had plenty to take home.

I've been here twice and it's been pretty solid both times.The first time it got the cheese burger and fries.The burger was nice and hot and pretty juicy.The fries were hand cut and were pretty good.No complaints.Now the second time I came in I got the chicken club sandwich and substituted onion rings for the fries.I wish the guy would I've told me there was a up charge of 3 bucks for the rings.The club sandwich was pretty big and I could barely finish it.The only complaint about the sandwich was the chicken was a bit dry.As far as the onion rings go they are hand breaded and were pretty solid.The only thing about this place they are a bit pricey.I think my last bill was 24 bucks plus tip.Thats a little much for lunch.I still like this place and will be back.Just not all the time.But I will pop in every now and then.

Very, very good burgers definitely a variety. The fries are very good too. And the banana pudding is pretty good. They have peach cobbler. That's pretty good as well.

Fred's was okay! We liked our actual meal, which consisted of the Original Fred's Burger and Chicken Fried Steak sandwich. However, our starter wasn't that great as the queso tasted like it was re-heated/not fresh. The chips were alright. We hardly saw our waitress except at the beginning when she took our order, a totally different person brought our food. We assumed she was the only one working but we could have been wrong. These days it seems to be the norm for one server be on a shift serving every table. Regardless, we received our food in a timely matter. I don't think we will return though, for the price we paid I would've expected more from the food. It wasn't as good this time around.

Hadn't been here in several years and we've been back 3 times in the last month. We love their burgers and the variety of choices. The loaded cheese fries are amazing and fresh cut fries.

Food was better than last time, service was awesome, but as a frequent customer I was wondering why the place was empty. I've been here many times and have never seen it so bad. What it boils down too is it is not a comfortable environment. I understand restaurants turning air way down to speed up turnover but this is ridiculous. I have not been able to remove my coat. It is freezing in here!!!

Great food and atmosphere. Staff is always happy and helpful. I love the quesadilla but they have removed my favorite from the menu.

I LOVE FRED's! They have such delicious burgers and affordable brews. It feels like a fun neighborhood spot where you are bound to run into someone you know.

We met here because its central to all the adult offspring. WOW we where impressed. Sat in the bar area and had a magherita(frozen) it was very good and only one needed. (I think they may have specials but we didnt have the timing right, however the price was fine) Several of us got burgers and they where big and did not disappoint. Came with fries and you can upgrade them to loaded. My daughters both did and they where covered and smothered in cheesy goodness. My son and his wife tried the chicken fried steak which came with 2 sides and was HUGE. This is a relaxed bar atmosphere and staff is attentive and food delish.. Add it to the love list

Good but just your regular burger place. Very loud inside and fries were cold. Asked for ranch dressing multiple times. Also had to flag over the server for our check.

This was probably the best burger I've had yet at Fred's! It's a Big Fred with grilled onions and jalapeños! Awesome! And as always Sadie did a great job!

Great food, pretty good service. Waitress seemed distracted and got a few orders wrong, but overall we enjoyed it. The bacon burnt ends were dry and tough. Burgers were on point.

I know I am not alone in lamenting the passing of the original Fred's on Currie. Even back on Currie Street I was not a fan of the Fort, and especially of the newer Fort (well, except for that new restroom. LOL). If we could not find a booth or seat at the bar in the area next to the kitchen, we left for another destination until another day not far away. The new place on Camp Bowie leaves me colder than a frozen Thanksgiving turkey. But, hey, the food. And the Cold Ass beer. It is still served in the old, comfortably familiar ice-frosted glasses. How can one resist this? One cannot. At least this one. The Diablo burger still works its wicked, spicy sorcery much to one's delight. The light, crispy crusted onion rings still demand a second order. There is still table service in these days of counter ordering. Yeah, it's more of a trek now from the Mid-Cities to west FTW, but it's a trek that is well worth the time and effort. Long live Fred's!

I ordered the Big Easy and it came out perfectly. Good atmosphere and music. Service was good and not overly crowded for a Saturday night. They have a big menu with tons of different burger options.

This is what a burger bar should be. Not pretentious at all, good food and especially chili. Great chili. Kind staff. I'd come back any time I'm on the north side. The smoked bologna was great. Only complaint was a "medium rare burger" wasn't red enough inside. Still good. Great fries too. Cool decor as well with BN headquarters nearby.

I had a fabulous burger, which had Dr Pepper candied bacon and also pico de gallo so it had a lot of sweet and zest and it was fabulous. Fabulous fabulous. My server was wonderful. I do not remember her name but she was great and I love the casual, relaxing atmosphere. Terrific restaurant.

If you are craving a different kind of burger, this is a great place. They have an array of sweet, spicy, and savory burgers. We went with the Enchilada Burger, and it was delicious. It even had a cheese Enchilada inside. We also really enjoyed their Queso, which had ground meat, Pico, and guacamole. The server was really outgoing and sweet. The only bad thing I can say(Imo)is that the chips are really hard and can be difficult to eat.

The hostess was very kind and got my kids drinks as we sat down. When our waiter (Michael) came over to get my drink he stood behind me where I could not see him to get my order which was odd. About 30 minutes later I finally got my beer, and he took our appetizer order. The appetizer came out quickly, and sat empty on the table for about 20 minutes before he finally came back to get our entree orders. I will say the burger was very good. When he dropped off our burgers, I asked for another beer. About another 30 - 40 minutes go by, and I still don't have my beer and at this point I'm done eating and just ready to go home. I asked him is we could just go ahead and check out, he says sure. He brings out the check, and my beer... as I'm packing up kids to leave... guess he wanted to make sure I got charged for it? I also wanted to note, the only reason he stopped at our table the times we did is because I had to wave him down as it was like he was avoiding us... we are very simple and easy to deal with customers, so not sure what his deal was but it was from the moment he first came to get my drink order. Also think it's odd that they serve messy food with no napkins or utensils?

Burgers and fries were excellent. Service was terrible and adolescent. Little sassy teenager touched her hair repeatedly after taking 20 minutes to bring our two sweet teas and take our order. Ruined the experience for us. This child's contempt was real. Kids these days.

It's Sunday football and we chose Fred's texas cafe! You seat yourself (so you can see the screens you want to). Our waitress was pretty quick to take our drink order. It was my first time here but it was my boyfriend's 2nd time. He said the loaded chips and queso were good. So we ordered that. I was feeling something a little sweet today and decided to get the badlands bbq burger. Food came out. I'd say the chips were all right. Maybe 1/5. The texture of the bite wasn't quite right to me. Whether it was too hard or too soft, but the queso was pretty good! 5/5 For the burger, I'd say the bun is like a 10/5. Upon first glance the bun looked soft. But that extra toast on the bottom takes it home. That extra mile goes a long way. Each bite was so crispy/crunchy. My boyfriend's burger didn't have the same toastiness, so consistency could be better if that's what they were going for. But if it was on accident I'd say it was a lucky mistake for me ;) Other things that stood out to me were the pickles. I love pickles so I'm glad these were good. They have bite and flavor! The normal parts of the burger were good too so no complaints from me there (onions, bacon, etc). Lastly, I liked my boyfriend's onion rings, and I'm not an onion ring girl. The sauce that it comes with is pretty good too. I also tried the loaded fries and I'd say they were good, not bad. For my other impressions, I would've thought the bbq burger would actually have bbq sauce in it but it didn't have any at all lol. Maybe I read the description wrong. Next time I'd like to try the fried pickles and probably a different burger, like the burger of the month! I didn't know about it till after. This month's burger is the zaraguza burger. I think this place is good for the sports. I feel like the fans/customers are a lot more lively/vocal than other places I've been to. Overall, I think the toasted bun, onion rings, and pickles brought this review to a 4 star!

Atmosphere and ambiance was great. Staff was welcoming and took care of drinks and such. Food was alright. I had the chicken-fried steak and it was decent. Ordered the loaded fries and those were tasty. Plenty of menu items for anyone's taste

Went to Fred's today. The restaurant was setup nicely and our waitress was very accommodating. The setting is a bar and grill. We ordered Fred's original and the serrano burger which come with fries . We also ordered the onion rings. (too much food) The burgers were juicy, the onion rings were crispy and fries were excellent. We will go back again. However, the only concern; the customers kept staring at us like we weren't suppose to be there because we wasn't of their nationality. However, we enjoyed of food; we are retired senior citizens, dressed nicely trying to have a late lunch living our BEST LIFE!

We found this little gem of a burger place just in time to hit our craving of a good lunch. The burgers were well seasoned and cooked. I opted out of the fries which are sold separately but do taste homemade and fresh only lightly salted with no added seasoning. My Serrano burger was spicy and honestly too hard for me to eat in one bite because it was piled up pretty high with the veggies! No complaints it was good and filling. Not having the fries was perfect for me. My partner chose the Diablo burger which was just as great! The chipotle butter sauce was delicious and made the burger what it was. I was able to try out their chipotle ranch -sauce girl here- and it was a nice dipping sauce to try on my burger and a couple fries I stole. The price of the combo is a little too high for my liking on the meal overall and is why I'm giving the place 3 instead of 4. It was good but not for the cost in comparison to other locations/quality

Wifey & I visited this location. Fun, upbeat atmosphere. Food was good. Reasonably priced. We sat on the patio. The weather was great. Our server, guy w/black fingernail polish(didn't get his name), was good. We will be back. A "Cheers" vibe. Friendly staff & friendly patrons.

Twice in the last 1.5 weeks they have screwed up the order. Unfortunately this time we got food to go and didn't check the bag til we got home. Most likely done with this place. Workers need to socialize less and help the customers.

Fairly busy for a Friday night. That's expected. Gave the guy at the front our name and he said it would be 20-25 minutes for our party of 2. So we sat down on the bench right in front of him. After 25 minutes and watching other three other later arriving parties get seated before us, we went up to the desk only to find out HE DIDN'T EVEN WRITE OUR NAME DOWN!! When I expressed my disbelief, he didn't apologize or try to make good. He merely wrote our name down... AT THE BOTTOM OF THE LIST!!! Said it would be another 30-35 minute wait. Dude! We have already waited right in front of you for 25 minutes and you just seated three other parties that came in after us. You aren't going to put our name on the next immediate table?! Are you even being serious? Truly unbelievable. We went to a different place and spent our money (bill near $100) elsewhere. Will not even consider going back to Fred's. Ever.

I love the food and atmosphere at Fred's Texas Cafe. I only have one critique. "Bring back the Chipotle Rib Eye featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives years ago. It was the best steak I have ever eaten.

This place sells home-made/hand-made sour-dough breaded ONION RINGS!!!!! The burgers are good but those onion rings are the best I have had anywhere. They call my name to go back there again...soon...OK, soon-ish!!!

Excellent service. Prompt and accurate. Food was so good! Fred burger was huge! We shared sides - onion rings and fries. Onion rings were crispy and so tasty. We always come here when we're near!

I thought the portions and taste of the food overall was very good for the price. I didn't enjoy my nachos because they melted regular shredded cheese over them- it got hard, lacked a ton of flavor and overall was a mess to eat. Overall not flavored well. They have excellent queso and I'm not sure why it's not included on their nachos.. The chicken fried steak which came with queso and guac was really great and the bread pudding was awesome. Could be worth another visit- but skip the nachos.

Fred's is constantly good. The food is good, beer is cold, service is fast and friendly, and their prices are great. I love Fred's!!

Food here is great, drinks are pretty cheap and service is always pretty quick. Fried pickles are a must order.

We have since been back and it seems like their prices have gone up while the quality went down a little. I still wouldn't consider this lower than 3 stars, but we have to drive about 20-25 min to get here, and it's just not worth it anymore, especially with Hopdoddy and Kincaid's closer. Maybe we got a bad day, but that doesn't change prices. I know they still have their regulars who don't feel this way, but I want to spend my money where I really feel satisfied with how it was after and not feeling like I way overspent.

Five star place in my opinion. The service, dining room, and food were great. The place is larger than I expected and there are plenty of seating options. The place was very spacious and comfortable despite the large lunch crowd. Our service was on point the whole time. The menu is pretty straight forward. Half-pound burgers with plenty of options, various sides such as fries & onion rings, and a few other things such as chicken fried steak and tenders. They also have an off-menu side salad. We ordered the standard Fred Burger which comes by default with LTPO and mustard, which in my opinion is the perfect base for a good burger. I added grilled jalapenos and grilled onions and they were awesome. This was the best 75 cents worth of jalapeno add-on I've ever had. I got my burger medium rare and the other burger was the default medium. The cook/temp was pretty spot on. Most places overcook everything so you can just go with the medium without having to compensate for overcooking by ordering medium rare. The price was a good value considering the quality of the burger and the great service.

Solid burgers and sides, a very impressive list of margarita flavors. Went before I turned 21, will have to go back to try some out soon. Probably a niche audience, but my grandfather was also ecstatic they have calf balls as "calf fries".

Great food and great service. Everybody is always friendly. Fridays and Saturdays can get a little busy but Nico always does a awesome job keeping up with all the people and getting them seated as fast as possible! Should get 10 stars

Long wait to get a server to come by table. The burger was a two star at best rating and the burger and fries were very greasy. Came here based on ratings and these must be for the beer. The burgers are a non-starter. Stay home and have a bubba burger.
