Skip this place. Everything is extremely bland. Went with big group. We got: Gumbo Jambalaya Red beans and rice. Crawfish étouffée Everything was extremely tasteless, shrimp was so overcooked it was falling apart, but the rice was slightly crunchy. My family is from Louisiana, so maybe my standards are higher, but I didn’t eat my food.

Google
We had dinner there this last Monday for the Masters and had a good time. Place is nothing spectacular, but the service was very good, and so was the food. Our server Nick was super friendly and had great recommendations. The Crawfish Etouffe and the chicken wings were both really good. Good pricing and decent wine menu!

David Schelvis

Google
The whole lunch was really good and the Seafood crepes dish was very tasty, we highly recommend to pair it with Jambalaya!

From the moment we entered this restaurant we were greeted with smiles and loads of southern hospitality. We had a party of 13 people and our waitress took great care of us with patience and a smile. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and made great recommendations. I will definitely be back to this restaurant. I highly reccommend their seafood pasta.

Visited here tropical storm eve we were visiting from out of town and our friend brought us here. I loved the salmon w/capers & oysters! Food was very delicious & prepared with care. Nice selection on the menu. Would definitely return.

This was our first time visiting French Market Grille, and we had an amazing time. It was actually a stroke of luck that we decided to come here, but because so many restaurants are closed by 6pm on Sunday in this area we were very happy that we discovered this place! When I placed my reservation over the phone with Daniel, he made it so easy. I originally set a reservation for 5, but when I called back later and requested it to be adjusted for 7 people he was able to accommodate it without any issues. He was very welcoming over the phone. Our table got to try a bunch of different flavors, and we were really pleased with how fresh and flavorful all of their offerings are. Our table tried the following: She Crab Soup, Seafood Gumbo, Catfish Po' Boy, Shrimp Po' Boy, Shell-On Boiled Shrimp, Blackened Filet, Fried Crawfish and a variety of cocktails. We also tried a couple of the specials that they had that were not on the menu, including: Frog Legs and the Soft-Shell Crab Entree. Everyone at our table enjoyed their food. The biggest thing that stood out aside from the fresh menu was the service that we received from Desmond. This guy was incredible, his high level of service is what you would expect from extremely upscale restaurants. The restaurant closes at 9pm on Sunday and we were there well past 9pm, he was so friendly and truly made us feel like we were at home. We felt absolutely no pressure to leave — and he even offered us desserts as we were finishing up. Desmond encouraged us to stay as long as we needed and to please enjoy our food, even when we asked him for to-go boxes. He visited us SO many times and made sure that we had everything we needed. Desmond, thank you for leaving a lasting impression on all of us. Update 9/24/23: Added more photos from a recent lunch visit and we received very lovely service from Julia! My wife enjoyed her Shrimp Salad that came with Feta Cheese and Kalamata olives — plus the She Crab that is always so flavorful. I enjoyed trying the Fried Oyster Poboy. Very nice lunch portions, super friendly staff, and fresh flavors!

It had been well over 10 years since my last visit, but it was still just as amazing now as it was then! Everything was great and delicious!

Google
Food was good though they had just run out of my first choice salmon at 6 ish pm! Had reservation at 615 but for some reason they assumed we were the large group they were setting up for. When they realized we had been standing waiting they said "you can go hang around the table". That gave us the first opportunity to tell them we had a reservation for 2. Waitress was not the best and insisted on boxing my leftovers instead of allowing me to do. She had been handling payment folders snd serving others and I preferred her not to handle my leftovers. As I said food we got was good, but experience was disappointing.

Yelp
We love this restaurant. My sister and I enjoyed the Seafood gratin . I highly recommend This place for a nice lunch or dinner.

Yelp
I am from out of town and staying with a friend. I found this restaurant today and had lunch and brought the friend back for dinner there. Absolutely amazing food, having lived by New Orleans for several years I was so excited. The food was on point and reminded me of my favorites from when I lived by New Orleans.
google avatar

Yelp
Inside is very regal feeling . The host got us to our table and the waitress was there immediately. I love that she gave us suggestions since it was our first time at this restaurant. Service was Amazing throughout the entire experience, so Kudos to the establishment for that. The food looked great but tasted okay. There was no flavor. We had to do a lot of adding salt, pepper, & sauces to make it palatable. I was expecting it to taste like I was in The N.O. For meals to be as expensive as French Market Grille has them, you would expect better. The dessert was good. I will definitely not rush back to eat more, but I will one day try them again in hopes of better tasting dishes.

Yelp
It's Saturday afternoon Here with our friends Ambiance... place busy busy busy Chicken salad salad. A bit salty to taste after the meal. But Quiche... excellent, even the crust was good Sea food crepes. Everyone ate from this dish. Plate ....finished. Jambalaya Very good, hot and spicy . Maury says he loved it
google avatar

Gabrielle B.

Yelp
A group of 4 of us came here to eat on a Saturday evening. We didn't have reservations and they were able to seat us right away. Our waiter was Philip and he did superb taking care of us throughout our meal. We had an order of fried green tomatoes as our appetizer. Then we ordered our main course. I got the seafood au gratin and it was delicious! Everyone was happy with their food choices and would visit again!
google avatar

Myla M.

Yelp
Went here when I was Augusta craving a taste of home. I did not get that taste. I had the seafood stuffed trout. Overall very bland. The fish was cooked well, nice and crisp but just bland and so was the seafood stuffing. The best thing there was the house made honey something salad dressing. Ended buying a jar of that. But everything else was bland. No salt and certainly no creole or Cajun seasoning. I the service was good and quick and the place was chill. But food not good enough for me to go back.

Yelp
My mother-in-law decided that she wanted to eat here for her birthday. After reading some reviews and against my better judgment, we decided to take her. I am not from this area and not as familiar with the restaurants here. Augusta, this is NOT it!! I understand they have been in business for years and can get pretty crowded on Friday nights but there must be something else better around here. The waitress was nice. That's the only positive that I have to say. Gordon Ramsey would rip this place apart. The ambiance needs to be upgraded. The food had no flavor and was cold. My husband ordered a chicken po boy and he has a dairy allergy so he requested no slaw or tartar sauce. His sandwich came out plain...so we thought. It was evident the cook made a mistake and put cold slaw on the sandwich but then tried to scrape it off. Evidently he has gotten away with this in the past. They took the meal off of the ticket and tried to offer my husband something else. He kindly declined. I ordered a shrimp po boy with vegetables. The vegetables tasted as if they were stored in a container and microwaved. Don't waste your time or money. This place is NOT WORTH it!

Michael B.

Yelp
Seriously if you know anything about seafood or Cajun food please don't waste your money. We went there and my wife ordered Etoufee and it was nothing but RUE( the beginning of gravy just paste) our waitress warned her. But it was the worse food I have ever eaten. My wife is from New Orleans and know how this is suppose to be.
google avatar

Amanda M.

Yelp
Enjoyed dining with coworkers at The French Market Grille Augusta location for Mardi Gras on Fat Tuesday. If you want to experience a little piece of New Orleans locally this is the place to go! There was live music and everyone from the waiters to patrons were decked out in Mardi Gras attire and beads. I would highly recommend making reservations or getting there early. The food is always delicious and worth the wait.

Richard V.

Yelp
We were told that this was a good restaurant, the food was good the service was very slow over all probably will not return
google avatar

Morgan M.

Yelp
My husband and I visited this place a few weeks ago and it was better than we anticipated. We got the fried green tomatoes for an appetizer. They were crispy but they lacked flavor. We got the stuffed salmon and the blackened seafood pasta for our entrees and they were great. Both were well seasoned and fresh. The best thing about this place was the waiter. He was kind and attentive, even though he was the only waiter working and the place was pretty busy. This is a great place for a date night or just a nice dinner.
google avatar

Courtney Z.

Yelp
First time visiting last night. The food was good but it tasted like I could've made it at home which is fine for when you just don't want to cook. Our server was very sweet and the place was packed full of people. The only downside I have is that it's extremely outdated. It was opened in 1997 and I don't know if there's been an upgrade since. It's very dark in there. Hard to see the menu or your food. I am going to try it again during the day and see if my review changes.
google avatar

Amber V.

Yelp
A little piece of new Orleans in the surrey Center. I love the portion sizes of the meals. The service is always good and attentive. The ambiance is just like 504. The parking situation js effortless, and it's in the surrey Center, so there's other options to go and visit after without having to get back in your car. I love the little piece of Cajun and Creole vibes that fresh market grille offer
google avatar

Kaitlyn P.

Yelp
Food is good and good service. Price is reasonable as well. Ordered crawfish popcorn, she crap soup and cajun benedict Crawfish popcorn is okay, kinda lots of flour making it hard to taste the crawfish flavor. She crap soup (bowl) is huge amount, if you like creamy then it's good. Light taste of sherry. I'd personally prefer the one at Abel Brown closed by, less creamy, more crab and more flavor of sherry. Cajun Benedict is delicious. The poached eggs are good, crab chops are made really tasty, kind of like hashbrown.

Yelp
My wife and I have dined at the French Market Grill for more than 20 years and have NEVER had a bad meal, in fact, the food is consistently delicious, Of course, we have our favorite server but, the service is top notch, friendly yet professional. The ambiance has changed a bit over the years. When we first started dining there the decor was full on New Orleans. Now it has toned down the New Orleans vibe. My lone reason for not giving a fifth star is that the restrooms are not exactly accommodating for those of us who rely on our wheelchairs for our sole means of locomotion. Regardless of the restaurant, I want the wash my hands after handling the menus and I find it difficult in the French Market Grill. That slight inconvenience is not enough to warrant my not going back. Quite the contrary, I take other wheelies to one of our favorite places to enjoy a great meal.
google avatar

Larry E.

Yelp
Food is delicious. I absolutely loved the oysters they were fresh. The spot has an authentic feel. The service is pretty GOOD. I guess honestly a lot restaurants in the CSRA have pretty good service compared to other places I've visited in Georgia in general

Karen G.

Yelp
I have been going to the French Market Grille for over 20 years. It remains one of my favorite places in Augusta. The pate is delicious, and the crawfish pie is the dish I have missed most when I have lived out of town. Well done for not letting the times change your quality and menu!
google avatar

Nannette P.

Yelp
Food is OK. Service is good. Ambiance is ok. We'd come back to try their other dishes. The hot bread is awesome.
google avatar

Carolyn T.

Yelp
We have noticed a decline in quality in the French Market Grille food since Chuck retired and new owners took over. I ordered fried oysters and they were so chewy as to be hard to eat. Largely muscle. The "dirty rice " was lacking in sausage so it was pretty plain. Salad greens not crisp, and avocado dressing lacked any chunks of avocado. She-crab soup served lukewarm and mostly thickened sauce-very few morsels of crab. Disappointed since we have eaten there for years and always enjoyed it. Service was a bit slow even though there were few diners. Ambiance changed with the decor. Cheap-looking chairs, blowing white curtains and lack of black-and-white checked tablecloths lowered the appeal. Too-loud music-not of New Orleans style.
google avatar

Moshi M.

Yelp
Ambience. B Service. A Food. A Price. A Late lunch at 1:00...lots of parking in private lot, albeit, can get full as surrey center has lots of businesses. Not much as far as decor has changed in ambience in 40 years. They have extended out for more window seating areas that looks out into the parking lot. Host was quick in greeting and appeased me picking my own seat. Server was quick to greet and serve and take order. I've been here Ordered fried oysters. $17. Comes with drink and salad. Avocado dressing is creamy and light. Fried oysters fried crispy outside and some a little over fried chewy oyster bites inside and some were moist morsels, albeit quite small size portions. I got 7 small oysters for the r lunch plate with nice pilaf rice and housemade tarter sauce. I'm still a fan! Remind me to call periodically to see if they have soft shell crabs on the menu!!!
google avatar

Stephanie D.

Yelp
Their 40 year tradition makes perfect sense because the food is wonderful and the service so quick. My husband and I stopped in after a day at the Masters and it did not disappoint. He ordered the gumbo, we both had the seafood crepes and I ordered the Frozen Turtle Pie. All our food was excellent and the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because our entrees were only lukewarm not hot. Everything tasted great and the food came out REALLY fast, but our waitress explained that it was because it's Masters week and they had extra food runners working. All good to us and we will definitely be back.

Zachary R.

Yelp
Used to be able to rely on the steak salad for take out dinner. Told today they no longer have the steak salad and that they had beef tenderloin as well. Bring it home for dinner and it's half the portion allotted from the steak salad I used to depend on. Will not return for takeout.
google avatar

Marty B.

Yelp
Haven't been here for years and the locals say it has really gone down hill. We went anyway for late lunch on Saturday before Masters week. We sat at the bar and our bartender was super friendly. I had the seafood crepes and they were outstanding! The others had a salad, rolls, gumbo and red beans & rice and they also indicated that their food was very good. Place could use a good cleaning and updated bathrooms.

Tracey N.

Yelp
It is very sad for me to leave a one star review. My husband and I used to frequent this restaurant because it is in our neighborhood, but after last night's meal, we won't be returning. I ordered the peel and eat 1/2lb of chilled shrimp. The shrimp was old and mushy. The server forgot that I ordered a cup of the she crab soup, so I cancelled it. There are glass dividers between the booths. The one behind me was filthy! I almost tripped over a tray stand that was not put aside when we were seated. If I have to be subjected to one more server with a pierced nose, I am going to be sick. There seems to be no pride or standard in this restaurant's presentation of either its cleanliness, food freshness or wait staff. So sad! Didn't used to be this way!!!!
google avatar

Courtney J.

Yelp
The food was pretty dang good here-and service too! We were able to eat outside which was awesome considering COVID. The restaurant gives you New Orleans in SC vibes, but with a unique twist. We had the Crawfish Pie, Crepes Louisiana, Seafood Gumbo, She Crab Soup, Cajun catfish and Fried Oysters. The only thing I would not recommend from that lineup is the She Crab Soup. It was pretty sweet and just had a weird taste. The side of rice wasn't amazing either, but you can probably sub it for something else. The best things that we ate that day were the crepes and the fried oysters. The service was good, food came out fast and hot, and I would definitely come back. In total our food came out to about 70$ (4 entrees, two soups + tax and tip). Give it try if you're ever craving Louisiana inspired dishes!
google avatar

Yelp
Our waitress Sonya was amazing! She truly amped up our dining experience. We made a reservation and were seated promptly when we arrived. Waters, bread, and bread plates were served immediately. Our other beverages and appetizer were brought out almost as soon as they were ordered (peak dinner hours) and our food was delicious. No complaints! I really appreciate when a server takes unused/discarded plates and glassware as soon as they are no longer needed. Sonya was an A++ server and I'd love to be seated with her again :)

Yelp
We went to dinner tonight (Fat Tuesday) our drinks were great I had lemon drops & my husband had a really tasty Long Island. Appetizers were she crab soup, steamed & raw oysters, & smoked salmon. I would love more crab in the soup...but overall very tasty. The oysters were delicious & the smoked salmon too. I ordered the blackened filet and asked for a side of blackened shrimp...I was saddened by dry, burnt tasting shrimp. It would have been so much better with less of the seasoning (which to me wasn't spicy) & more actual spice for hotness... my filet was cooked perfect...medium rare. Added a side of mushrooms & it came with potato & veggies. Overall dinner was good.
google avatar

Yelp
What a great dining experience!! Michelle, our server, provided outstanding service despite managing multiple tables. My party of 7 ordered the crepes, salmon, spicy shrimp, seafood au crab, gumbo, she crab soup and crab chop. Everything was absolutely delicious! The food came out quickly and had great flavor. We ate every bite and finished our meal off with the lemon pie, bread pudding and chocolate espressos - SO good. We left with full bellies and totally satisfied.

Yelp
We had an amazing time celebrating my sisters 50+ Surprise birthday dinner. The food was great but the service made our experience more memorable! Thank You Carmen!!
google avatar

Michelle A.

Yelp
Overall excellent food and drinks here. Definitely a little more expensive, but I find it to be well worth it. From beginning to end, all the food I ordered was fantastic. The soups were delicious especially the she crab soup. The rest of the table found the gumbo to be a little spicy, but it's gumbo it's supposed to be spicy. For starters we had the fried green tomatoes (the table also thought that the accompanying sauce was spicy) and the crap chop. The crab chop is a staple there for a reason. I got the tuna, which was the special that night. I didn't really like my dish compared to the rest of the tables. The tuna was kind of bland. The rest of the party had gotten the seafood crepes, seafood stuffed trout, and a shrimp Po boy. I felt that the seafood crepes and stuffed trout were good but the taste was pretty much interchangeable. I also thought it was laughable that they limit your drinks to one refill only. It seems a little cheap for a higher end restaurant.

Yelp
The French market grille is a jewel in Augusta Georgia. Just had the she crab soup. Delicious!! Small shot of sherry to add at the table. Wow! Haven't seen that in a long while. Having a roast beef ok-boy. Would have shrimp but I'm allergic. Food is freshly made and so tasty.Keely has been my server. Nice smile , even with the mask on! Very attentive. As a bonus got to speak with the owner, Walter! He is always of good cheer. Everyone is so nice. This will be my go to when I'm in Augusta! I almost forgot, hot rolls came with the soup. Yummy.

Steven M.

Yelp
Another wonderful Happy Birthday dinner for my (twin) friends, celebrating another wonderful dinner at the FMG, which we do annually, a tradition and meal as good as ever, superb! Thanks to Walter, Rick & staff. The FMG & y'all are an Augusta treasure.

Beth T.

Yelp
This restaurant has been a staple in Augusta forEVER! This WAS the place to go. Unfortunately, it's not anymore. My husband and I went last night. The restaurant is VERY dirty and dated, the atmosphere was terrible, food just ok. $30+ for the crab chop is ridiculous. The only highlight was our server, Nick. He was very attentive and gave us great service. With that being said, we will not return.
google avatar

Chantay C.

Yelp
Lunch today with great friends was awesome! We decided we all wanted Seafood Au Gratin. It's not on the lunch menu but if requested they will definitely hook you up as they did our crew... The meal is a pie that contains scallops, shrimp, crab, Cajun seasonings, aged cheddar sauce and it's topped off with a crispy crumb topping. It's served with rice and a salad. Wow was it delicious! My favorite was the crumb topping and they weren't skimpy on the seafood...You will definitely need a to go box especially if you try the rolls. Our server Cody was outstanding! He kept out drinks flowing and checked on us several times throughout our visit.
google avatar

Lisabeth L.

Yelp
Love their fried green tomatoes! The service is always great and the food is so delicious. Definitely recommend if you're looking for some Cajun flavors.
google avatar

Yelp
The facility needs refreshing and a deep cleaning! The ladies bathroom has been neglected for years. The floors in the main dining room are dirty and need to be replaced. The owners of 30 years need to put some money back in the place. The side salad they brought for my husband appeared to have been sitting out for hours. The lettuce was brown and wilted and had mostly lousy iceberg lettuce. I pointed it out to our server and told her if that was what they would put in the shrimp salad I had ordered, then I didn't want it. She assured me they had fresh lettuce that had been chopped earlier that day. The salads came out and I had to pick out "dead" pieces of lettuce throughout. I picked out black/brown wet pieces of what used to be lettuce. I at the iceberg just to have something in my stomach knowing it usually causes indigestion. I will say the boiled shrimp was well prepared and tasted very good dipped in the avocado salad dressing. Owners got off of some of your profits!!

Yelp
I took my mother here for her birthday. She loved the food and the service was great!
google avatar

Yelp
Good as always , would definitely recommend food was fantastic. Service was good aswell
google avatar

George D.

Yelp
Great food, no better Cajun food in all of the CSRA! Nice place, great ambiance, live piano music occasionally.
google avatar

Spencer V.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing. The decoration and the atmosphere was excellent for tonight. The food of handcut french fries and red potatoes was great and the service excellent. The place is very pricey so be sure to bring extra extra cash with you. I cant wait to come back for dessert and cocktails.

Katie M.

Yelp
I'm betting this place was a sports pub that someone tried to make into a French bistro/restaurant. The iron w/ marble top tables are good, ubiquitous black/white flooring, pretty mural at the entry...but too many booths, and why, with great windows on two sides, you would cover the light with cheap & poorly hung white curtains, rendering the place dark rather than light & airy as most real French bistros are is a mystery. And the bathroom, which hasn't been redone from sports bar days, is a dead giveaway. Oh, and I really don't need to see into the kitchen--it's not a charming view, so out some doors on it! As for the food, I had the she-crab bisque for lunch, which was just tolerable, no better, ant not a hint of the promised sherry. Warm rolls served with it were good, though. Really need to wholly embrace your theme, upgrade decor & chef, and update. As it stands now, I won't return.
google avatar

Michele H.

Yelp
Bringing the Mississippi Gulf Coast/New Orleans fare to the Augusta area...you can't go wrong to get a slice of heaven. Service, ambience, and the food are all excellent! So happy to have this restaurant to remind me of home.
google avatar

Marcus D.

Yelp
My wife took me and my kids here as she was super excited because she was craving some spicy creole food. I wish I had more hands, I give this place 4 thumbs down. We ordered Mac and Cheese for our toddler and when the "Easy Mac" hit the table my 2yr was not having it. It looked dry and nothing about that says $6 for Mac&Cheese. I ordered catfish thinking I would get a whole catfish or filets for $22...it looked like 3 chicken tenders. It was overly fried and hard. The rice lacked flavor and the seasoned veggies were not fresh. My wife had shrimp étouffée that was laughable. It lacked spicy, flavor and all the toppings you look for in a traditional étouffée. Safe to say, DO NOT visit this establishment if you're looking for good food. The food is just bad.

Tim M.

Yelp
$30 for less than a pint of crawfish etouffe takeout??!! I guess Masters week prices are already in effect. And no bread to go. Disappointed to say the least.
google avatar

Drezha D.

Yelp
I'm not sure how it's possible but there is absolutely no flavor in the crawfish etoufee. Like it's bland. I ordered a Togo meal and there's no flavor at all. I also ordered the jambalaya......it also had no flavor. The white rice that came with it had more flavor than both meals combined. You can't call yourself a Cajun restaurant and sell food with no flavor. Can't say I'd go back or even recommend this place. They charge way too much for the food to be this bland.
google avatar

Hope W.

Yelp
We tried the she crab soup, crawfish starter, seafood crepe, and the crab cake. The crawfish were yummy but the other items were just ok. I would personally not come back

Keith H.

Yelp
A favorite when I come to town. Never disappoints. Fried green tomatoes are out of this world.
google avatar

Keith D.

Yelp
Had a reunion dinner with my brothers and their wives. Waitress was a little slow at the start (1st customers followed by 2 other tables). Once she got started was good. Food was outstanding. The Cajun special platter consists of fish, scallops, oysters, & shrimp. Was outstanding. The whole group enjoyed the food snd atmosphere.
google avatar

Joe B.

Yelp
Service was super slow. Had to remind our server that my salad hadn't come. Salad didn't come until after the meal. Refill on my drink was forgotten. Food was good but if you're looking for a great restaurant experience this isn't it!
