13 Restaurants to Try in Downtown Crossing

"True to its name, French Quarter serves up flavorful New Orleans-style cuisine from fried catfish and a smoky gumbo to Creole shrimp and grits and a variety of crawfish dishes. The cocktail menu includes New Orleans classics like a Sazerac and a Hurricane and a rotating menu of innovations like the River Queen with tequila, triple sec, lime juice, fresh watermelon, and grenadine." - Celina Colby, Eater Staff

The Best Dishes the Eater Boston Team Ate in 2019

"I’m cheating slightly: I ate this in the final week of 2018. Close enough to 2019 to count it, right? Bar Lyon impressed me. The Columbus Hospitality Group’s restaurants are always solid, but this feels like the most accessible of the bunch, the kind of place you can go to with some regularity, not just on special occasions. The French onion soup is currently the reigning champion on my French onion soup list, and if I lived closer, I would surely be at Bar Lyon’s bar weekly throughout the winter, sipping wine and eating soup. —RLB" - Rachel Leah Blumenthal, Terrence Doyle, Dana Hatic

We didn’t find the food and experience matched the price. It tasted good, but it wasn’t a lot of food. We left hungry, and paid a lot more money than other places we went on our trip. I had the shrimp and grits, and my partner had the fish and chips. The atmosphere was ok. We made a reservation and were sat at the back of the restaurant in the worst tables. Would have thought the comfy booths, or the front seats by the sunny windows would have been better. Wouldn’t go back. I was also charged $5 for a green tea.

5/5 Pimms Cup - very well balanced cocktail! 4.5/5 Fried Okra 4/5 Cheese Grits 4.5/5 Jambalaya -- really enjoyed this! Well seasoned with spices and a tiny kick of heat, shrimp was perfectly tender, rice was not overcooked! 4.5/5 Fried Platter (oyster, shrimp, catfish, fries) -- enjoyed the variety in this platter, fried seasoned coating is thin and crispy, a very enjoyable eating experience! 5/5 Beignets -- super thin crisp crust with a very moist, soft, and fluffy interior! 4/5 Bananas Foster Bread Pudding

They were located just a couple of minutes from our hotel. It’s located next to Boston Opera house so if there is a show it can be busy. We were tired from traveling and decided to stop in for a drink a some food to go. Place has that old Boston feel. Dark wood and classic rock interior. There is a bar area and tables. Our server was amazing. My wife wasn’t feeling with most of the beers and they brought out samples for her to try. One unique thing about this place is you take a elevator down to the basement for the bathrooms. Very old school Boston I thought. Overall good beer and drink selection. They offer all the familiar New Orleans-Cajun dishes. I will say if you’re from Louisiana or near by don’t expect the food be like back home. Nothing is like back home. That said food is still good and if you aren’t lucky enough to have great Cajun near you this place isn’t a bad solution. I decided to go with the shrimp scampi to play it safe. Wife got the fries okra. Our food was to take back to hotel. My wife raved about the fried okra and she knows her okra. My shrimp scampi was good not necessarily great. We asked a lady next to us before we left that for the crawfish etouffee, which is one of my favorites how it was. She said she just got back from Houston and discovered etouffee, and said this was good but not like what she had in Houston. Overall great service and if you’re not spoiled with great Cajun where you come from this place isn’t worth a visit.

Google
Was pleasantly surprised by the great food here! Super convenient in the theatre area, was perfect before a ballet. The gumbo was good, i love the spicy sausage in dishes. The salmon was simple but nice with sweet and spicy brussel sprouts and cheese grits. The cornbread was also one of the best ive had, I would eat it for dessert! The bananas foster bread pudding was very fun (on fire). Staff were kind and helpful the whole time, and refilled my drinks frequently.

Google
The libations here are fantastic, the bartenders really take their craft seriously and serve up some of the finest cocktails in Boston. I really loved the French decor and how the bar opens up right on to the street. I got the Captain Chilli, which was a perfect combination of sweet with a little heat! Their menu had some reasonably priced items, but I only got some sweet potato fries to munch on. I would highly recommend stopping here for happy hour or dinner before a show at the theater next door.

Google
The ambiance is great and very cute. We started with the Caesar salad, which was good—not amazing, but refreshing. Then we ordered the NOLA hot chicken and the fish and chips. The chicken was made with dark meat instead of breast, which was delicious, though I preferred the fish and chips. It was well-seasoned.

Google
Overall a very nice dining experience at the French Quarter Restaurant. I had the red beans and rice and my wife had shrimp and grits. Both dishes were very tasty. My only knock on my dinner was not quite enough sausage for my taste. The service, while adequate, could have been a little better. Bon apetit!

Google
Popped in for an end of the night espresso martini which was good and beignets. The beignets were super disappointing. They were heavy and doughy, not light and airy ☹️ The bartender was friendly enough.

Yelp
We got to our reservation early after attending a show at the Citizens Opera House next door and they showed us right to our table. The food was really delicious, the cocktails creative and delightful, and the service really good. For the record, we had crawfish etouffee, catfish, fried okra as an appetizer and cornbread. The seasoning was great on everything, generous portions, and the final bill was very reasonable. I would like to go back.

Yelp
I recently visited the French Quarter in downtown Boston (545 Washington St) and, unfortunately, my experience was far from positive. We started with appetizers: Cajun Tequila Wings and Popcorn Shrimp. Both were underwhelming, with the wings being especially disappointing--far from the flavorful, crispy dish I was expecting. For entrees, my son ordered the Catfish Sticks and Fries. Unfortunately, the busboy mishandled his dish, spilling it across the table without even acknowledging the mishap or offering an apology. That was an immediate turnoff. My wife opted for the Jambalaya, and although she said it was "okay," she didn't even finish half of it, which says a lot. She didn't take the leftovers, which is unusual for her. As for my dish, I ordered the Fried Chicken and Red Beans with Rice. While the red beans and rice were absolutely fantastic, the fried chicken was some of the worst I've ever had. It was dry, overcooked, and lacked any seasoning or flavor. In hindsight, I should have been wary, given how bad the Cajun wings were. Overall, the experience was disappointing, especially considering the restaurant's 4-star rating on Yelp. Based on my visit, I have serious doubts about how this place received such high marks. It's frustrating when you make dining decisions based on reviews, only to be let down. I'm someone who values honesty, especially when it comes to reviews. Not everyone can afford to waste money on subpar meals, and this restaurant did not live up to its reputation. I won't be returning to the French Quarter, and I would caution others to look beyond the Yelp ratings when choosing where to eat.

Yelp
I ordered the gumbo (it comes with chicken and sausage). It was okay. Thr flavor was pretty good and the sausage was good but the chicken was totally overcooked. It wasn't worth the expensive price. I also ordered the beignets. They were very dense and not that good. I ended up giving them away after I left. The server wasn't that great but he was new so I gave him the benefit of the doubt. And other servers covered him and helped him out which is nice. But I won't be going back since its overpriced and not worth the expense.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the winter spiced winter sangria. I think I could taste cloves, wonderful fruit flavors. It was really lovely, enjoyed it so much. I didn't like the Cajun tequila wings as much. They were just okay, $16. Comfortable, & friendly people. Sat at the bar. Restroom is interesting, downstairs, like in the basement, took an elevator down to it. Great architecture around there, absolutely excellent location next to theaters. Love that area. One patron at the bar ran over from a theater during intermission for a quick seltzer & restroom break. Zero wait for her. Excellent location.

Yelp
Stoped here before a show and they were fast and delicious my partner got the burger and I got the crab cake sandwich both were fantastic The drinks were also great!

Yelp
Had a 6:15 reservation on a Wednesday evening and we were promptly seated. Fairly plain decor with classic movie posters. Put our drink orders in (the Hurricane was great!) and our food orders. The appetizers came out shortly thereafter, the hush puppies were ok, but the cheese grits were definitely a good choice. The jambalaya with rice were the perfect portion size for me and had a good amount of shrimp, chicken, and sausage. Quite flavorful! This place is worth a try if you're in the area. It's also right next to the opera house which makes it a convenient dinner spot prior to a show.

Yelp
I came here by chance after dinner. While I didn't try the food I did sit at the bar and had a dessert cocktail. The monkey business was delicious. I didn't get the bartenders name but I came on a Thursday night and he was very friendly. The restaurant is nicely decorated and makes you feel like you are in the French quarter. It's nice addition to the city!

Yelp
cute interior with friendly service! perfect for after work drinks or dinner with friends. loved their drinks (gentilly mule, fleur de lis). got the hush puppies, gumbo with okra, and shrimp n grits. my favorite was the gumbo- the chicken was so tender and the stew had the perfect amount of kick!

Yelp
Solid cajun food in downtown Boston with traditional flavors but nothing that leapt off the page. We had dinner for four before a show at the Wang, which was right down the street. The atmosphere was upbeat and the service was great! The starters were solid: corn bread was well flavored, but a little dry; fried okra was perfectly cooked; and the crab cake was pretty much as expected. The shrimp and grits were my favorite part of the meal with punchy seasoning and a hearty base of grits. Highly recommend for a nice homey meal. Drinks: 1. Old fashioned: 3/5 Food: 1. Corn bread: 3/5 2. Frid okra: 4/5 3. Crab cake: 3/5 4. Braised greens: 4/5 5. Fried chicken: 4/5 6. Shrimp and grits: 5/5

Yelp
I got brunch ( poached eggs, bacon, grits & a beautiful biscuit). David got the etoufee. Both were superb. The only improvement would be to serve hot food on hot plates & hot coffee in hot cups. Food & coffee should always be hot by the time it reaches the table.

Yelp
The food was delicious. The jambalaya was well spiced and flavorful and the rice was fluffy. The popcorn shrimp was so light and crispy. I loved how it was not greasy or oily at all. The Brussels sprouts were sweet and tasty, but the pieces varied in doneness - some were tough while others were mushy. Regardless, the vibes were nice with groups chilling at the bar. It was lively but not overwhelming. It honestly wasn't that busy when we arrived a bit past 6 on a Friday night, so this may be a great last minute dinner place. Our server was great and had recommendations ready!

Yelp
The Resturant is super cute and visually appealing when you enter. We were straight off a flight and drinks were needed. We were all very happy with the drinks we chose; the Vieux Carre and French 75. For apps we ordered the okra, and wings. The okra was delish; perfectly fried, nicely seasoned, everything you want from fried okra. The wings good, the drumsticks were larger. I prefer all flats to avoid this but they were unable to accommodate the request. For dinner, we order chicken and waffles, shrimp and grits, wedge salad with shrimp and pan seared salmon. Everything looked good but lacked seasoning. Overall, I would absolutely go for the drinks and apps again. The food was decent but I could skip it and try a dessert instead.

Yelp
Made a reservation for two, but came in a little earlier and the staff were very accommodating! First off, the place itself is so cute. I loved all the colors and decorations and vintage posters. But most of all, I loved the doors to the "toilettes" that makes it feel like you're being transported to Narnia just to go pee. No sarcasm - it was genuinely very cool :) We got drinks and I got the Reine de France (or something like that) but it was basically a spiked lemonade which was very refreshing during this summer heat. Food was okay! I got a burger, but maybe should have gotten something more NOLA-ish. BUT. THE REAL STAR OF THE SHOW: THE BANANAS FOSTER BREAD PUDDING. So good. Highly recommend. It hit the spot. I was ready to take a nap. Will come back to try the gumbo, and get another side of fries because they were the perfect balance of fluffy and crispy!

Yelp
Jambalaya $30 to-go. Huge portion. Ate it for two meals but could have been three. Lots of protein (chicken, shrimp, sausage). Really hot. Medium spicy.

Yelp
We made reservations for The French Quarter in Boston. When we arrived, the place was packed, and it took a few minutes to be seated. Once seated, our waitress came to take our drink orders. I asked for the spirits list, but three of the items I requested were unavailable. I recommend updating the menu to reflect available items and include prices for each spirit. Additionally, our waitress was not very attentive. Several times we asked for something, but she ignored us and walked away. It was unclear whether she was too busy or simply didn't care about our requests. I ended up having just a single beer since none of the whiskeys I wanted were available. My group ordered the Jambalaya, burger, chicken sandwich, cornbread, and crawfish. They said the food was good but perhaps overpriced. We were a group of eight and split the bill, which included a 20% automatic gratuity. While I understand the policy, the subpar service should have been taken into consideration.

Yelp
Fantastic food, drinks, and friendly service! So convenient to all the theatres downtown. The portions are huge! We've had the etouffet, the jambalaya, the friend shrimp and the cornbread-everything is always to tasty!
google avatar

Eric P.

Yelp
Server made good recommendations and the food was delicious. We tried the gumbo and the hot chicken sandwich - both were excellent. Personally I preferred the gumbo which I thought was one of the better I've had. I'd come back if I was in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
My friend and I decided to swing by French Quarter for dinner on Friday night, as she has been wanting to try it for a while now. We each got a cocktail and chicken sandwich, along with beignets for dessert. The cocktails were delicious and a good value at $14! The chicken sandwiches were super filling and quite juicy. Beignets were decent. Cute spot, glad I tried it.

Yelp
Food: We got a few different types of dishes, one was a fish dish, the other one was gumbo, and then two different desserts. Besides, the gumbo tasting really good, I was very impressed with how they cook the rice. Small little details in that just showed how great they made the food. Service: Unfortunately, we had waited way too long for food. A minimum of 30 to 45 minutes long from the time we had ordered our appetizers. Not to mention nobody came to our table to ask about utensils, and a couple other things. So definitely a star or two knocked off this experience. Ambiance: Definitely a transient feeling. There are people walking in and out, that area brings in a lot of wind, and this was during a winter/spring part of the year, so it was called when people came in and out. You also have to take an elevator to get to the bathroom. Four. Stars for the food, but nothing else.

Yelp
I've been here a few times and I absolutely LOVE the Shrimp and Grits but would not personally come here for anything else. This is because their Shrimp and Grits is absolutely amazing, but everything else is just okay and a bit expensive for what you're getting. If it weren't for the shrimp and grits here, I would not come back but this dish is absolutely amazing. Best shrimp and grits in Boston. Something about the shrimp, grits, and sauce they make really brings everything together quite nicely to where my friend and I were dreaming about coming back again for the shrimp and grits. The fried oysters are pretty good and flavorful with the sauce they give you but since they put it on a bed of lettuce it fools you into thinking there's more for the price of $23 which is a bit steep for 8-10 pieces of oysters. The Jambalaya and Etouffee Catfish were just alright, a bit salty and felt like they were missing something especially since these dishes aren't cheap either. Rice was a bit mushier than I'd like. Fried okra was good, we just couldn't finish the plate since they gave so much and so we had to take this to go. The hush puppies were pretty dry and we had to dunk them in sauce a lot to swallow them down. I get that these are probably not their specialty, but overall I still had a good experience and would just come here to specifically only order the Shrimp and Grits next time. Service is a hit or miss. One time we came, the server was extremely annoying because she came over to ask our table is we needed anything else every 2 minutes kid you not. I get that she's trying to be helpful for tips, but it was too much. Restaurant is a bit loud but luckily they sat us in the back. A bit odd the bathroom is accessible only through the elevator and so you might have to ride the elevator down to the basement which might be a little creepy going down alone. What we have ordered: - Creole Shrimp and Grits - Etouffee Crowned Catfish - Creole Jambalaya - Hush Puppies - Fried Okra - Bon Temps Fried Oysters
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
Gumbo yaya was watery and lacked the slow cook and taste of a real gumbo. Pic attached. Jumbalaya was ok. Very tomato based, the portion of meat was astronomical. Which also is the reason why I didn't enjoy it much as there was just loads of meats and not enough rice to enjoy the dish. Onion rings and hush puppies were good. Just normal fare. Fish and chips was an interesting dish. Fish was cooked well but had a very very fishy taste. I didn't catch if it was catfish and if it was this dish was good. If it wasn't catfish well then beware. The service was friendly but non existent. My family had to flag our waiter all night just to get his attention.
google avatar

Ethan W.

Yelp
The food was very good at this restaurant. I definitely would recommend the catfish etouffe. I will be sure to come back here just for that entree! The only thing holding this back from a five star review is that we made a reservation but when we arrived, the hostess was nowhere to be found and we stood there for around 10 min waiting to be acknowledged by anyone. The interior was also very dark. But overall really liked this place!
google avatar

Humberto S.

Yelp
In town on business and we were looking for something new to eat for dinner. My colleague has never tried Cajun food so we stopped here. The decor and sound of the place was cool as if in New Orleans. We both ordered the jambalaya. He enjoyed it as a first timer but for me it was meh. Chicken tasted off, the shrimp was over cooked but the sausage was great. Plus it was so much, we couldn't finish it all. My drink was flat regardless how many times it was refilled. The saving grace - the beignets. Those were delicious. The place was okay.
google avatar

Shaun L.

Yelp
Matt is an awesome server! Really nice, patient and great personality. Had a bunch of appetizers with the fritters, fried shrimp, fried oysters, and onion rings. They all came with different dipping sauces, but the only ones worth ordering are the fritters and fried oysters. I one bited the fried oyster, boy that was a mistake. It was so hot, I almost ruined the rest of my meal. But it was very good. I got the crawfish etouffe and it was great. Packed with crawfish, it tasted like a gumbo without the okra. The catfish looked really good, I will check that out next time. To finish the meal we got the beignets and they were gigantic. I prefer my beignets to be light and fluffy and these were dense. I wouldn't reorder it. Overall I would give this spot a 3.5 stars since there were some hits and misses. This is a good spot to hit up before a broadway show since it is next to the paramount theatre
google avatar

Joseph L.

Yelp
The appetizers were good, especially the Brussel sprouts. Very flavorful and got a nice spicy kick to it. The jambalaya was very flavorful but it was way to spicy. I wish their menu would indicate how spicy it was and for the server to allow us to request a spice level. I also ordered the gumbo but I did not take a picture. It looked so bad and was very bland. It was just brown water with chicken and sausage in it served with rice on the side. Do not order that dish, definitely does not seem like gumbo.
google avatar

Sarah M.

Yelp
Busy Saturday in August and we were able to get a drink at the bar before our 6:30 reservation. We have been to New Orleans twice and the food and service were much better here! Jambalaya was spot on a full of delicious tender chicken thighs, perfectly cooked shrimp and sausage! Loved the popcorn shrimp and hush puppies!! Drinks were excellent!!!
google avatar

Amy B.

Yelp
No one at hostess stand and waiter dead eyeing us while chatting with friends instead of welcoming and saying someone would be with us; Hostess went out of her way to find us the gross table; Menus were covered in sticky film; Tourist trap only still in business due to local hotels and theatres; Waitress was brilliant; Dry fried chicken - only burnt thighs, inedible gumbo; MSG everything prevented eating food; and Floors were flooded and slip and fall hazard. Great way to waste $200 - ENJOY!
google avatar

Yelp
Service was quick and fast. Food tasted great and the vibe inside was chill and relaxing. Pecan pie to die for

Yelp
Servers were nice, and dish was great! I got the jambalaya, and if you love spicy food, I would highly recommend this. The spice level is high, and so that's something to consider modifying if you want to try. Portions of meat (sausage, chicken, and shrimp) were generous in this dish, and the rice is seasoned great.
google avatar

Yelp
Why 4-stars? This food was less than a TGIFridays. Shame on the Opera House for putting them on their webpage. Really lame.
google avatar

Yelp
Was intrigued by this place that serves Cajun and Louisiana food. I had wished that the dishes were done more faithfully to the originals that I'm accustomed to based on my experiences eating and making this cuisine. The popcorn shrimp appetizer was fine and might actually be the best item I had. The shrimp batter was flavorful and the inside shrimp were moist and spongy. The gumbo seemed quite watery, confirming others' critiques on the textures of the stew. The roux didn't seem to be done properly to make the base thicker. [Admittedly there are various ways to do a roux but this seemed quite watery.] The crawfish etoufee had an ok flavor though definitely could have been spicier and could have added more complexity. Crucially the sauce was also much more watery than I'm used to. And the crawfish bites themselves were really small and tough. This seems to be a sourcing problem, though the crawfish could have been cooked for a shorter amount of time. The addition of corn was a bit odd ... not entirely unlikeable but a bit of a surprise. The rice could be a bit stickier, and the allium base needed more punch. The beignets came out oddly stiff, without much air inside as they should. They almost resembled something like cakes rather than actual beignets. It's good that this restaurant is here. It's a nice place to bring a small group of people and share a meal prior to a performance downtown. The environs include some neat posters of older films set in New Orleans. The service was amazing, attentive, and warmly welcoming. The vibe was upbeat without being boisterous, class without pretention. The price points were high, but so is everything these days. Rent must be high... if those fixed costs could be lowered then perhaps more attention could be devoted to refining the recipes.

Yelp
I had the cheese grits in greens. Two appetizers or sides. Large portions. Grits were creamy & cheesy. Greens had a lot of stems but delicious -there's a kick!!

Yelp
Very yummy Cajun-inspired restaurant in the heart of Boston. My group and I went for Saturday lunch, and surprisingly was able to get a table for 6 very easily with no wait. The food was pretty good, highly recommend the Jambalaya (though we got it without as much hot peppers - still a decent about of spice). Overall could be a bit pricier but fairly on par for the area.
google avatar

Marina O.

Yelp
This place is great. The atmosphere is nice. They have real New Orleans food, and it tastes great. I ordered Creole Jambalaya(GF) and it was good. It was spicy but good. The size of the portion is so big that you can share it with another person easily. My friends and I were sitting at the bar and the barman was nice, he took care of everyone at the bar. The cocktails were tasty like in New Orleans.
google avatar

Yesenia V.

Yelp
The portions here are HUGE. Basically anything can be shared- great for groups. Favorite thing we had was the fried okra and fried shrimp. Only downfall is it seems you always have to have a reservation due to staffing. One time we tried to walk in and the wait was almost an hour even though there were barely any filled tables. Once you're in though, it's really great.

Yelp
This restaurant was OK. To be honest, I would rate it a 3.5 if I could. We ordered the hush puppies which were the best part of our dinner, they were absolutely delicious. We also ordered the crab cake sandwich which was rather small. We also ordered the fried fish and fries. The fried fish batter definitely needed some seasoning. The fries were good. Service was speedy and I really enjoyed the New Orleans decor. Food however cannot compare to NOLA, but what do you expect? It's Boston after all.

Yelp
French quarter is a cute Cajun restaurant in downtown Boston. The menu is a bit limited but has good options. All Cajun inspired so if you aren't into that this isn't the place for you. The burger I got was juicy and had a nice brioche bun with a delicious Cajun sauce on it. I really liked the sweet potato fries as well. The bread pudding came on fire which was a really cool touch. The interior is so cute and has some awesome decor. Our server was really friendly and accommodating. The food came out fast which was convenient since we were seeing a play right after and wanted to be on-time.

Yelp
A friend recommended this restaurant some time ago and we finally were together in the city at the same time to finally check them out. Our waitress was new, I think her name was Reid/Reese. It was her first day and she did great! Apps - we had the popcorn shrimp and they were really good. Not to much batter and not overly done. The dipping sauce that it came with, was just okay. Entrees - my friend had the shrink and grits and said it was really good and filling. I had the fried catfish and asked to sub fries for the corn maque choux, I wasn't sure what to expect but it was tasty. The piece of fish itself was larger than I anticipated, def will be able to take some to go. Drinks - The hurricane was very Todd and strong, they did not skimp on the liquor was great. Also had a ginger ale which was flat tasting. Dessert - we shared the banana foster bread pudding which has a display of the flambé at the table, awesome! The bread pudding lacked texture and was too much for my liking and wasn't served hot but more cool which I personally am not a fan of. When we arrived for our 6pm reservation the restaurant wasn't too busy, within half hour that quickly changed. Because the surrounding area has many plays/shows that tend to start between 7/8pm they can fill up quickly so make a reservation! All in all, great location for parking and or public transit. I would return to try out a few other items in their menu.

Yelp
Pretty cool place with tasty fare and neat drinks. I was really surprised by their extensive and detailed cocktail menu, and the attentive that the bar staff puts into their drinks. The bartender I had was very friendly, attentive, and personally went to the kitchen to get cajun remoulade for me. Definitely plan to come back, order more food, and make this a regular spot to visit. The onion rings were tasty, good amount of onion, I just prefer a little heavier batter. And the remoulade was amazing.

Yelp
I was hoping to come here to reminisce about the time I was in NOLA and all the good food I had. I wanted to like this place so much after perusing the menu beforehand. After today's food experience here at the French Quarter, I was truly not transported back to NOLA. I was underwhelmed and disappointed. Let's start with the apps; which were the fried oysters and onion rings. The onion rings were fine and nothing too exciting or memorable. The oysters were over fried leaving not much oyster and all coating. Meh. The entrees I had were gumbo and rice and beans. The thing both dishes had in common was they were both extremely salty and the ratio to rice was off. There was way too much super salty gumbo to rice just like there was too many beans to rice. The gumbo was very thin and filmy for my taste. Generally, the consistency of gumbo should be thicker. The chef who made this didn't make the roux thick enough resulting in the gumbo being more soup-like than stew-like. The gumbo didn't feel hearty and comforting when I ate it as it was just salty water. I liked the rice and beans better compared to the gumbo, that dish did feel hearty and comforting but the downfall was it was a salt bomb and there was just not enough rice to balance out the dish. Plus the waiter who served us never checked in on us and asked us how we were doing, if the food was good, or if we needed anything else. He refilled our water cups once only after we put the cups out to where he could see they were empty. Sigh. Maybe it was an off day? However this place didn't make a fan out of me.

Yelp
One of my favorite spots in the area. The place has a nice vibe and never gets too crowded, plus the decor is neat. Not much of a drinker these days but it's rare that a French 75 is on a menu around here, and it's a good one. The food is universally excellent and I bring both friends and business associates here because (aside from a vegetarian, I think) it's hard for somebody to go wrong with a dish here. The etouffee's one of my favorites and the creole-seasoned burger is hard to argue with. Desserts seem pretty good too, though I've never bought one here; when I ran into the owner on the way back from the bathroom (which is a trip and a half to get to, via the dedicated elevator--it's fun watching people's reactions the first time they visit) I'd mentioned we go pretty regularly and he sent us over some beignets, which we sure didn't mind!

Yelp
Always try to stop here before shows at the opera house. Very cool atmosphere inside with nola artwork, old posters & photos, etc. service is always friendly and the food comes out pretty fast. Would definitely recommend a side of cornbread with anything you get here. The drinks are also very good and strong.

Yelp
Caught this place before a show. Great vibe, great food, and great drinks. Good place to keep in options to bring friends or family before or after an event.

Yelp
Pretty cute place, had a New Orleans feel to it. Had the spicy chicken sandwich and it was a solid pick. Good list of alcohol as well and a good looking bar. Service was fast when we went on a weekday for dinner

Yelp
French Quarters food was pretty good but left something to be desired in regards to taste. Located right smack in the middle of two theaters you might miss it if you don't pay attention. The decor is just okay catered to the new orleans and mardi gras vibes but not eye catching . The restaurant was pretty empty for a Friday evening and has more of a bar vibe. One of my favorites was definitely the popcorn shrimp with the sauce that had a spice kick which was great. In my opinion the prices are a little overpriced but you will definitely leave full. I do want to give a shout out to the staff though.. They were really nice and attentive to us. Our server was very funny and kept joking around with us which I did enjoy. Stop by when you are downtown for a drink or some food.

Yelp
I was just there for drinks before a show so I cannot comment on the food but the service was great. We sat at the bar right away and the bartender was super friendly. They have some interesting cocktails! I got an espresso martini which was really good. Ambiance was great as well, great vibe and friendly atmosphere. If I'm in the area I'd def check out their food next time!

Yelp
The food was good, i got the jambalaya which has a lot of meat, and it was pretty spicy too. I liked the chicken the most. Our server was also very nice, overall it is a cute place if you are in the area.

Yelp
We came here right before a show and was not expecting much... The food was amazing. The best creole food I've had in my life and I have been to New Orleans a couple times... Service was also great everything we did not expect plus plus!
