French Truck Coffee Starts Brewing in the Garden District Right Now - Eater New Orleans

"The Garden District has a new coffee option today (November 14), with roaster and brewer French Truck Coffee now open on Magazine Street near Sixth. The coffee shop takes over a former CC’s Coffee House Space, and opens right on schedule after it was announced a month back. As with other French Truck locations, it features a sunshiney yellow facade, with pastry and coffee offerings inside, similar to its other outlets. This is French Truck’s fourth location in New Orleans — a fifth is on the way to Poydras Street in the near future. The company has been branching out in the last couple of years — further afield, it’s now operating in Memphis and Baton Rouge, with one location apiece." - Tim Forster

Where to Find Great Coffee in New Orleans - AFAR

"French Truck Coffee is a burgeoning coffee empire based out of New Orleans, owned by Geoffrey Meeker. It has six locations, including one in a 100-year-old double shotgun house with rocking chairs on the front porch. Meeker oversees a barista training campus certified by the Specialty Coffee Association of America, offering two or three classes a month. The Dryades Street café features a full-blown kitchen and an all-day breakfast menu, with items like a maple syrup–drizzled waffle sandwich. French Truck Coffee hosts at least one cupping per month in each city where it has a presence." - Alex Schechter

Best coffee I have had so far in NOLA! My experience drinking coffee in NOLA was not the best. In some cases too watery. Other times too strong. in French Truck Coffee I found the best coffee in NOLA. This place has a cool and chill vibe. The service staff gave us a warm welcome. We had 2 lattes and one berries muffin with lemon custard (this is how I describe it since I do not remember the name of the pastry). Both the coffee and the pastry were delicious. I am sad I am leaving the day after I found it but I have a NOLA Coffee place already spotted for my next visit.

A matcha girl at heart! The best refreshing matcha to have in the hot summer heat. The coffee was extra potent and delightful. Just watch the method!

Google
First time at French Truck Coffee. What we liked when we walked it was the bright and happy space. The yellow totally pops! We ordered iced chai latte and New Orleans iced coffee with almond milk. I appreciate that they have milk alternatives. For a quick snack, we ordered the strawberry pistachio pastry. Everything was delicious. Highly recommend if you are waiting for the shops to open on Magazine St. Hop on Hop off stop #12

Had to give a shout out to Megan (Meghan?) for excellent service and recommendation! 😊 tried the NO iced coffee, and she made it just right even with hard accommodations. If you ask for local recommendations, she has a few ! Thank you!

Google
French Truck always delivers good coffee, and this location is no exception. I just wish they offered food here as well. The staff is friendly, and overall, it’s a great spot for a quick grab-and-go coffee.

Google
Won't recommend the hot latte. Because when I ordered a Caramel Latte (small), I got a caramel flavored warm milk instead. Couldn't taste the coffee. Can't imagine what the large size which has the same amount of shots would taste like. The cappuccino was average. There are great non-chain local options on the street. This one may compares or competes with Starbucks. The service and ambience/space are good. Indoors is air conditioned plus a nice relaxed outdoor patio seating.

Google
I ordered New Orleans Iced Coffee (semi-world famous drink composed of Coffee, Chicory and Milk shaken over the 'good ice.') and went back the next day for another one. Delicious! We also ordered praline coffee, a muffin and an almond croissant.

Google
Overpriced nonsense. Not impressed. Ordered breakfast first day in NOLA. Croissant sandwich is just a Walmart brand one with eggs slapped on. Got a gluten free order for someone, just some eggs slapped on dry gf grain bread, not cut, not centered, no love went into this. Food tastes bleh and meh. All we can taste is the subpar bread. I've had better food on the road in Louisiana and it was cheaper. I could've made myself a better breakfast at home. Some members of staff could have been more helpful, too.
google avatar

Alexandra F.

Yelp
Delicious small batch coffee. The chicory and deep molasses notes found here do not compare to destinations outside of Louisiana. Treat yourself and try this coffee shop, and purchase some to take home to relive your NOLA experience at home. Thank me later.

Yelp
You had one job as a coffee shop...serve coffee. We had to wait 20 minutes for the coffee to brew for the entire restaurant. So, we waited for 30 minutes and missed the bus. (We had to catch the next bus 25 minutes later.) Coffee was extra strong when it was served. Café au Lait took 15 minutes longer. The tall guy poured coffee, then sniffed it before adding the milk. (3 guys hanging out in back & 1 girl in front, doing her job) The floors were filthy, like a Greyhound bus station. Positive: We were out of the wind.

Yelp
Super cute, good service, lots of inside seating options! Definitely should try this chain while in NOLA. They have multiple locations.
google avatar

Pacience S.

Yelp
Consistently good coffee! Love the seasonal drinks that not only honor the offerings of the season but manage to add some local flair as well. Definitely loved the satsuma iced coffee, it was rich and flavorful with a hint of sweetness (I always opt for half the simple syrup) and a bright pop of citrus . The shop is always clean and welcoming good for both people watching on Magazine or studying/working. The staff is always fast and friendly, what more could you want!
google avatar

Victoria W.

Yelp
Delicious! This is a very cute coffee place right next to the garden district, and the coffee is refreshing and delicious. They have many seats on the inside as well as on the outside. Definitely recommend
google avatar

Yelp
Good coffees with an assortment of types. Good location to step out of shopping and grab a cup.
google avatar

Jimmy K.

Yelp
Great place for coffee. The staff were friendly and had recommendations for our first time visiting. Coffee had great flavor and the portion sizes match the price. The seating inside is pretty spacious if you need. Check them out.
google avatar

Yelp
I really wanted to try the coffee here. I ordered the oji drip with light ice and was told there'd be $1 up charge lol. So I said forget the light ice. You add your own cream and when there wasn't enough cream, I brought the canister to them and they acted annoyed, said nothing and just replaced the canister with another. Absurd behavior. Anyway, coffee was meh and def wasn't worth it.

Yelp
As we were walking down Magazine Street taking in the sights and browsing through the shops, we decided to stop and enjoy an iced coffee. This space is bright and welcoming and we were able to try our first New Orleans iced coffee, which is infused with chicory. I'll be honest, I had no idea what chicory was, so I spent some time reading about it and how it potentially has some medicinal properties, but I'll tell you what, mixed with coffee, milk, and sweetener and served over the nugget ice offered at French Truck it's an absolutely delicious treat in the mid-day heat of New Orleans! 10/10 would recommend giving it a try - my only regret is that I didn't bring any home with me, good thing I can order some online!

Yelp
Stopped by this coffee shop to have some coffee. The coffee was good and strong and the service was great! I'm glad they served the coffee in real mugs. We sat outside and enjoyed the weather as we had coffee. Would definitely come back.
google avatar

Midori G.

Yelp
I was so impressed by this NOLA coffee chain (could be other places too, but I have seen several locations around New Orleans). I ordered the oji iced coffee. It was more than regular coke brew, but it was a specialty cold brew. (It was around $5.) I thought it was rather strong, but the flavor was great. Would definitely recommend as a quick pick up coffee spot. It also looks like it would be a good place to meet a friend for a chat.

H J.

Yelp
Clean with good vibes. Pourover erhiopian was excellent. Want to go back and try the cold brew

Stacey E.

Yelp
Delicious! Loved it. I ordered a New Orleans iced coffee and it was great! Air conditioned and cute!

Samantha R.

Yelp
The staff was amazing! The recommended great items and the environment was clean. Loved the blue eyes tea with lemonade!

Yelp
This place is frequented by a lot of folks on Magazine street. They have good coffee and pastries. It's an easy place to plop down with your laptop and enjoy working inside or outside for a few hours. I find that the French trucks across the city are fairly consistent with their product too. Not to mention that at every location the servers are always super friendly. Overall, French Truck anywhere in New Orleans is a pretty solid experience!

Jason Y.

Yelp
Good Afternoon, the service here was outstanding but unfortunately the coffee is garbage. I just paid $8 for this foul ridden cup of a poor excuse for coffee. If you want monkey piss in a cup... this is the place for you. I had to add 1 star so I could post this, but I don't even think it's worth that much.
google avatar

Mike W.

Yelp
Excellent whole bean choice option as well as snacks. Cold brew and other beverage choices were delicious. Bought about 4 bags of whole bean to take back home to CA. Service was prompt and cheery and the inside was cozy. Stamp of approval.
google avatar

Danielle G.

Yelp
Yummy coffee and this location in the Garden District of NOLA was a good place to grab my morning caffeine boost. Would return!
google avatar

Yelp
We discovered French Truck Coffee accidentally. We arrived at our walking tour meet up spot early. Our tour guide said to grab some coffee as he pointed to French Truck Coffee. Man, that coffee was bangin'! Seriously, ya'll need to go on Shark Tank and sell 6 packs. I ordered a New Orleans Iced Coffee, my wife went out of comfort zone and ordered a Japanese coffee and I bought an iced coffee for the guide. In New York, we have Blue Bottle Coffee which is also a chicory coffee. I guess I can best explain it by getting sweet tea down south and sweet tea in Jersey. It's not the same. My Iced Tea was the perfect amount of Chicory, it was a mi-T-fine cold drink on a hot day. French Coffee Truck (Where's the truck??) thanks for a great coffee!
google avatar

Mary Lee J.

Yelp
Best coffee in New Orleans. This location has convenient parking and friendly staff. Nice clean interior. Tables are not cramped. But definitely go for the coffee! Imagine their other locations are good too. Footnote: sold in Whole Foods
google avatar

Sun G.

Yelp
This appears to be a "corporate" franchise coffee joint that are sprinkled around the city. The service staff is welcoming and friendly. I cannot put a finger on but this place seems very polished and mechanical which for some reasons reminds me of McDonald's. Coffee is adequate. Overall, it is not a place one can feel comfortable an extended period of time.
google avatar

Leslie S.

Yelp
French Truck is a favorite of mine to stop in for a nice iced coffee on a hot summer day! I love to get the oji drip iced coffee with oat milk. It's super smooth and the fact that they have oat milk available makes it even better. If you buy a bag of whole bean coffee they will grind it to your preference which is great for my coffee at home.
google avatar

Andrew B.

Yelp
Such a cute place. I live only a block away and this is my favorite spot for an early morning coffee or tea. Their tea selection is creative and their coffees are high quality - I'm not a big coffee fan, but I've heard their slow-drip cold brew is really good. They also open early, so great for stopping by before work, classes, or whatever else you have going on in the morning.
google avatar

Jorge R.

Yelp
Coffee is amazing. I get the Nola with oatmilk every-time and I love to ambiance as well. The employees are nice and helpful too. I come here often.
google avatar

Samantha W.

Yelp
This is such a cute place - a must-stop whenever I'm in NoLa. They have good tea options if you're not into coffee - I got a peppermint tea sweetened mixed with sparkling water (a nice hangover helper). Also if you buy a bag of beans you get a free regular hot coffee!
google avatar

Jenny L.

Yelp
Had their Japanese iced oji coffee with vanilla and oat milk- delicious!!!! Great recommendation from the staff there. Lots of outdoor seating outside by magazine street and on the side. Stopped in on the last half of my run and loved loved this medium roast iced coffee! Will be back.
google avatar

Carissa C.

Yelp
Perfect pick-me-up coffee shop! Was strolling down Magazine street and stumbled upon this brightly lit coffee shop. We love to try a coffee shop that's something different from the usual Starbucks, and we're glad we went. I had a medium New Orleans Iced Coffee with a splash of the coconut/almond milk blend. It was slightly sweet, ice cold, refreshing, and just exactly what I needed for that afternoon boost of energy. There was plenty of seating and the staff was helpful.
google avatar

Michelle H.

Yelp
Drip coffee tasted like a pour over- probably the best drip I've had. Also got their New Orleans iced coffee which was pretty good, the chicory made it taste similar to a Vietnamese iced coffee but less strong, milky, and sweet. Small cups were a good size for the price.
google avatar

Cheri C.

Yelp
This is a great location for coffee and to spend time! The coffee is excellent with a wide variety of options. The baristas are helpful and the drinks are made quickly. There are lots of table options with room to work or meet with groups.
google avatar

Kimberly A.

Yelp
Cute spot on Magazine street. They were so friendly and we got a bag of their beans to try at home! It was late in the day so I just got some tea to try. But all the drinks looked yummy!
google avatar

Faith C.

Yelp
I know this was my first and only time here, but I do believe that this was the best Hazelnut Latte I've had thusfar!! They had to have grated it fresh, because it was such a distinct taste that I was smacking my lips after each drink LOL! Pretty quaint place with interesting things to look at...seems to be a popular franchise in New Oreleans. No complaints and I hope to come again!
google avatar

Philip L.

Yelp
Bright, cheerful and clean. I just like the aesthetic and the copy was OK. What a great place to sit down and have a bite and a coffee.
google avatar

Shannon S.

Yelp
I really liked the CC's Coffee that used to be here so I didn't visit this place for quite awhile. The coffee here is actually quite nice and it is an easy place to visit with the bonus of quick service which results in long lines being rare. There are quite a lot of coffee shops in this area and so far I would say this is the best coffee I've had in any of them. The interior area also has ample seating and has always had space available when I have visited.
google avatar

Tricia B.

Yelp
Ah, this French Truck Coffee location was an absolute life-saver. If you're a visitor, New Orleans can get a little hot and humid. Magazine Street is a looooong street with a lot to see. It was such a relief to see this shop and be able to sit in the AC with a nice cold drink, or a caffeine hit if you're a coffee drinker. Restrooms can get a little busy, understandably so.
google avatar

Candy C.

Yelp
Both New Orleans Iced coffee & hot tea are very good here at the French Truck Coffee. The coffee shop is located on the magazine streets closed to all shops. It's in a good stop-by location for a quick break and pick-me-up before starting my next retail therapy trip. It gets some nice outdoor seatings too, but it's way too hot in NOLA in mid August to sit outside IMO. So I'm fine just to sit inside and relax. You can always look at the garden's big green tree from the floor to ceiling glasses window and imaging how hot it is outside right now while siping on the hot tea. Trust me, the coffee will taste really good on a vacation Sat at 2 pm in the afternoon. Especially knowing you will need that caffeine to stay up late tonight to go partying, bar hopping, and listening to New Orleans Jazz late at night.
google avatar

Jordan W.

Yelp
French Truck really impressed us on our recent trip to New Orleans, and this hip location in the Garden District was perfect for an afternoon pick-me-up as we explored the neighborhood. She had a delicious New Orleans iced coffee, which was creamy, rich, and sweet, and I went with a classic macchiato, served elegantly with a side of mineral water. Usually, coffee shops don't really impress me, but French Truck, with its cool vibes and just really great coffee, definitely made a good and lasting impression. I look forward to definitely visiting again next time I am in the area.
google avatar

Patricia R.

Yelp
I stopped in at this newly opened French Truck for a coffee to go, and it was a pleasant visit. There's tons of natural light thanks to the large windows, and it's brightly lit inside to boot. There was no line, so my order was taken right away. I stepped to the side to wait for my coffee and spent the time checking out the decor. I think "sunny" is the word I'd use to describe things. And I'm all about sunny. Shortly thereafter my coffee was ready, and it was a hit. Hot, smooth, and tasty. Service was good, coffee was tasty, decor was cheerful. Loved it.

Yelp
I was visiting from LA and after a few days I was really missing the coffee shop culture. Cute little shop in the French Quarter that offers a variety of coffee options. They have 4 going on 5 other locations in Louisiana. The shop was a pretty decent size and had a lot of guests dining in, reading the news paper. I ordered a latte and a milk steamer (if I remember correctly). The cashier was very friendly and answered all my questions. It appears that most of their coffee is sourced from Latin America. I haven't done any research to see if it's ethically sourced or not but I'm hoping so! All in all, a great place to stop for tourists when you're in need of a quality coffee fix.

Je M.

Yelp
The prices are too high for the quality of coffee you get. Don't understand how some people consider this the best coffee in New Orleans.
google avatar

Doug W.

Yelp
This is a growing local business here in New Orleans and some of the best coffee our city has to offer. It's just a couple minutes walk from Starbucks so do yourself and our city a favor and keep walking. The coffee is much much better and you are supporting local business. This is what keeps New Orleans unique and what makes Magazine Street what it is today. French Truck has plenty of snacks, sandwiches, water etc if you're out on your street shopping crawl. They have everything that conglomerate has including a place for you to hang out and write your next novel. The prices are better too! They have a frequent shopper punch card as well. Simply Perkin is a few blocks toward St Charles so if you're not heading Uptown from Starbucks, this is a very good cup of coffee too. So, if you're on the hop-on hop-off, think about doing the right thing and drinking local!
google avatar

A.J. D.

Yelp
Coffee is smooth and we love the vibe of the space. The Nola and Oji are really good. I can see why they have great reviews. Keep doing what you do!
google avatar

Lan N.

Yelp
Super cute little coffee shop! The mocha was delicious. It wasn't too too sweet and overly powering. The oji iced coffee has that coffee aromatic. Refreshing on a hot NOLA day.
google avatar

TiffanyJo P.

Yelp
New Orleans is home to some of the best local brew out there, and while I can't say each one is my favorite, I do have many; French Truck is somewhere at the top of that list. The coffee is always consistent and so so fresh. I believe they use Gracious Bakery for some of their baked offerings and I love that...NOLA embraces supporting local like no other. I've had all sorts of drinks at FT but none so delicious as their Oji drip coffee. It's darker than my soul and will have you bouncing right out the door with the first sip!
google avatar

Jazsdine G.

Yelp
I am not a coffee aficionado or expert, I just know what I want and what I love. Anyway, before we start walking around the beautiful Garden District, we stopped by at this coffee shop. We ordered Iced Mocha Latte, Oji drip Iced Coffee, and a muffin. Iced Mocha - This is my usual order in any new coffee shop that I visit, it becomes my baseline. For this particular location, their Mocha Latte is different from other Mocha Latte that I have tried. The combination of mocha and espresso give this sour taste, I think the roast of the bean is light to medium with fruity undertone which I don't mind but not my favorite. They also put a lot of ice, but I think you can just ask them for less ice. Oji Drip Iced Coffee - The process of making this coffee is a separate attraction which you can see over the counter. The coffee itself tastes like a combination of some kind of tea and fruit flavor, truly not in my alley but it was a refreshing taste for the summer heat. Muffin - I totally forgot the name, but the softness and deliciousness of it stay with me. It was just a perfect pick-me-up muffin. Space - They do have a good amount of tables and chairs, where you can hang out with your friends, working, studying or just people watching. All in all, it was an okay experience, coffee was refreshing not my favorite but the muffin was amazing. I recommend to give them a try, you will have your coffee fix and an Instagram post.

Yelp
I will not write a long review, but trust me, this place deserves every bit of the 5 star rating I am giving it! I have been getting a little fix of French Truck Coffee from other restaurants that serve it around the city. When I first tasted a cup of this delicious beverage, it was at the live oak cafe' and I had to find out what brand I was being served! Turns out it was French Truck and they are making their way into every local breakfast establishment in the city. I am soo happy they are too, because their coffee is the best in the city with deference to Cafe' Du Monde Cafe' au lait. For a regular cup of joe, French Truck is the BEST!! You can go to their three locations around the city, or honestly, you can have their delectable coffee at most local breakfast spots. I am now a fan, I have to have my French Truck Coffee fix!
google avatar

Ana S.

Yelp
The service is good and fast. I ordered The Nola , as recomended by locals, and it's just okay. But then, maybe because im used to my Hazelnut and Matcha Latte! CC Coffee & PJ's are more to my taste though

S D.

Yelp
It was my first time having FT coffee. Giving it 2 stars.. one for good service and one for the ambiance. But it is a coffee shop and the coffee was terrible. I ordered the safe drink to gauge a coffee shop, ice latte with whole milk. As another reviewer mentioned, the coffee had a weird sour taste and I couldn't bring myself to finish the drink.
google avatar

olivia a.

Yelp
This location doesn't have many food options and their biscuit sandwiches suck. Coffee is good though!
